I am hosting a pediatric cancer awareness charity event and asked the manager (Nick) if he could make an exception and allow me to pre-order 15 balloons (below their limit of 50) in advance for the event. I asked if he could deliver the balloons to the venue to help save time from me taking off work. The answer was no on all fronts. They have their "guidelines" and there were no exceptions. He was terribly rude. This is for a pediatric cancer charity event! What's wrong with them? Shame on this Balloon Saloon. They should be better than this. First and last time. The order came completely wrong. The young lady dragged the balloons inside the event when I told her it was facing the wrong way she said it won't be a problem. She steps out, comes back in with her Manager on the phone as per the email it was noted that the balloons should be facing the opposite way. Tiffany to face time so she can see how wrong it looked. First of all, yes, This place is very expensive but that's why it's perfect for last minute things that you forgot to purchase at Party City (where you bought 99% of the items for your event); definitely Not for fulfilling All your shopping needs. BS has a lot of options that are very good quality so the worry does not stem from the fear of wasting $20 on a crappy chocolate coin... it just stems from the fact that you have to spend that much in the first place. Don't order from these people! If I could give them a negative number I would. I paid $108 for balloons that arrived in the middle of my son's birthday party only to stayed up in the air for 2 hours. Learn from my mistake. I ordered from them because of the Yelp reviews, but I guess you have to be part of the "in" crowd to get the kind of service the reviewers have gotten. Here is what happened to me: First, they tried to charge me an add'l $20 for 9-10am delivery when it states on their website is not additional charge for deliveries after 9am. Then they promised 10:30am delivery (party started at 11am). They called at 10:30am to tell me they were running 15 minutes behind. When they still didn't arrive at 11:30am, I called and they told me their delivery person had left the balloons with the doorman at 10:30am. I called downstairs to the doorman and they said there was no balloon delivery, so I called the Balloon Saloon back and they said the delivery person was on his way. We only live 14 blocks from them! They finally arrived around noon. Another mother at the party had used them and said that they are typically like that with their deliveries. When the balloons arrived, the strings were so knotted we spent 20 minutes untangling them to get them to float correctly. Which apparently was a waste of time since 10% of the 50 helium balloons I ordered, were on the floor by the end of the party at 2pm and the rest were on the floor by dinner time. Came in here last minute, since I work in the nabe and am throwing a faboo housewarming in less than two weeks. I'm in need of cups and plates to go with my decor, not a tall order. I called ahead to make sure they had said cups and plates, and got a positive response. When I entered the store it was just chaos, and for that I'm not deducting I know party stores are always chaos. What I give them one star for is there ridiculous overpriced party supplies. $4 for 8 solid color paper plates? $20 for plastic cups? $4 for 8 solid color paper cups? Are you mental? I've ordered so many balloons from these people and I'm tired of it. They never remember their customers, keep track of businesses that order from them, and are consistently rude on the phone. Jeri talks down to customers like no one should speak to people on the phone. Taking my business elsewhere. I also came in once and made note of the specific colors I wanted to use, order them over the phone, and when the balloons were delivered, they came in slightly different hues (not ideal in this instance because the colors corresponded with full party theme). We live down the street from the Balloon Saloon and he decided to get a cute surprise for me, something that might last a little longer than flowers. Today marks the balloon's THIRTY FIFTH day of life. The 'Big Hug' balloon (we call him Big Hug for short) has become rather dear in our household. His Macy's-Thanksgiving-Day-Parade-like jaunts around our apartment powered by the a/c unit are quite entertaining. Yes, he has faded a little bit over time. On approximately day 20 he started a bit of a descent. On day 27, he was floating mid-air and looking a little thin. Today, day 35, he's tip toeing across the floor. We expect him to be fully at rest by day 40. He's lived a good, full life. The best balloon we've ever had. The Bottom Line: Need some cheer that's lower maintenance than a dog, has a less depressing end than smelly, wilting flowers and (hopefully) outlasts your need for cheer? ZERO STARS! For my 30th Birthday and I order over $100 worth of Balloons. The day before they called to confirm the order, before Jonas, before the snow. So I confirmed it, thinking my party would be on. Then we wake up Saturday and it's snowing CATS and DOGS. The delivery was supposed to occur between 4-6pm, as requested on the order. They delivered my balloons in the morning, before calling me again, to confirm the event. They claimed they were doing their job by getting all the deliveries out before the snow (OR the road ban for that matter). Little did they know, the OWNER of the restaurant never even opened, and some doorman accepted my package. They party didn't happen, and my balloons were stranded. That day we assumed the delivery wouldn't have even happened b/c we called at 2:30pm, and when they said they were already at the restaurant, you can image our frustration! Tiffany proceeded to hang up on my boyfriend for calling them out! They charged me and won't offer a refund and simply don't see that the business they were doing was SHADY! The money isn't the issue here. Their lack of customer service is. Had they just taken some time to call the day of (JONAS), we would have had them deliver the balloons to my apartment. With the road ban, there was nothing I could do to get them. I really thought I was over the situation, but I just called her back today to see based on the circumstances, wha they would do for us, and Tiffany again, put the blame on me, saying "I should have cancelled the night before!" I walked in and lost 10 inches in height, and was a school girl in pigtails making my way through a world of make believe all over again. I seriously felt like a kid again. The front had all these amazing balloons, that I wanted to turn to the person I was with and just ask for a bouquet of all the humongous animal balloons. The minute we walked in, our hands were all over the place. Picking up nearly everything just to play with. I mean it's no FAO Schwarz, or the big Toys r Us in Times Square, but it does have interesting toys, party favors, toys for adults (not the sexy kind), decorations, gifts and the best balloons I've seen yet. Had another balloon vendor bail on me the day before my son's party, so I called Dr. Balloon after a Google search (Just 15 hours before I needed the delivery), and asked if they had the specific theme (Toy Story) I needed. They were very pleasant on the phone, had what I needed, and pulled the fat out of the fire for me with very little notice. They delivered on time, and the balloons looked great. Most of the toys are made n China, naturally, but there aren't a lot of countries that make cheap plastic toys anymore. Unfortunately, when I went in with Olive the sensitive black dog, the whooshing sound of someone filling helium balloons kind of freaked her out and we had to leave. I'll go in by myself sometime. For such a happy store, the service is incredibly unfriendly and dismissive. I have been a customer for the past decade so I blame myself with helping to support this business. I was looking to place an order for my daughter's birthday party and when I spoke with Sean, the "family business owner" he was snarky and incredibly rude. I asked him why he and some of his employees are so nasty to customers and his response was "you get what you give." I have been nothing but happy and friendly each time I have been in the store so the comment was absurd and incredibly uncalled for and I am 100% certain this is not the first time he has received this feedback... just read the reviews. There are more 1 star reviews than anything else and almost all of them are about the disgusting owner and store management and how they mistreat people. In addition, when he attempted to rectify his behavior by trying to help with my order, when I asked him a question about placing the order online with his very specific instructions, his response was "if you have spent as much money as you say you have in this store, then you would know how to do this." That is just vile. It's like he can't help himself but be nasty. This "family run business" is a sad staple in TriBeCa. It is a true example of the benefit of being the only game in the immediate neighborhood but I sincerely hope that people shop elsewhere. There are a ton of party stores in NYC that deliver now. And for the record- they ALL have the same exact assortment of balloons at literally 1/4 of the price. They also don't treat customers like they are disposable and unimportant. AVOID AT ALL COST. I am posting pictures of the balloons I received. They were flat and on the floor. and Manager is incredibly rude when I called to discuss why the balloons were flat. The quality, selection, and options for custom balloon orders are great. They are definitely THE balloon place for NYC. If only dealing with them wasn't such a horrible, expensive experience. I ordered 200 custom-printed balloons for my son's 1st birthday party, 100 filled with helium. This was the minimum order on both, and pricey. The problems started when I placed the order online and delivered my artwork. I work in production, so I delivered high-res, well-packaged, layered files in a professional manner. It took the better part of a day and four phone calls just to get the manager convinced that my files were good and ready for printing. Way too much trouble, especially for files that were delivered properly the first time. I needed the balloons delivered to a park, so I needed them at a specific time, not a giant 4-hour window which is their standard delivery service. I said I'd pay extra for a specific, timed delivery. I was sold a $100 "premium delivery" and told I could expect them at approximately 1pm, with a phone call when the driver was on their way. Well, when it came time to confirm the day before I was told there was no such arrangement. I had to argue for 15 minutes on the phone that this was the deal I had made when placing the order, and convince them to commit to a 1-hour delivery window. (Not what I had paid $100 for, but the best I could get the day before.) And, of course, on the day the call when the driver was on their way never came, so I had to convince them to wait at the park and scramble to get there for delivery a half hour earlier than I'd expected. Furthermore, they delivered the filled balloons but not the flat balloons. (The filled balloons were decorations, and the extra flat balloons were meant to go into the party favor bags for the other kids.) The driver was clueless, didn't even know there was more to the order. So I had to spend yet ANOTHER 15 very unpleasant minutes on the phone, while trying to set up my kid's birthday party, arguing with them. Worse than any of this was their attitude. Their response to the missing flat balloons was a snide "That's the way we usually do it. We keep the flat balloons on file for your next event." Which, first of all, sounds like a scam: Your minimum order for filled balloons is lower than your minimum order for custom printed balloons, so you get people on the hook to come back to you next time? Second, this was NEVER explained to me verbally or on the written order confirmation, and they never asked whether I wanted them to keep the flat balloons. I don't know about standards in the balloon industry, but I think we can all agree that, unless other arrangements are specifically discussed, a customer can expect that his ENTIRE order would arrive when delivery is arranged. Maddeningly, their proposed solution was that they'd send another truck with the flat balloons that day. For another 4-hour window that would have required me to wait at the edge of the park for the duration of my son's party. I explained this to them, and they said that's all they could do. I said that, actually, they could refund the delivery fee and they'd keep my business. They said they couldn't do that, and that a manager would call me back. Unsurprisingly, I never received that call. The balloons were nice. Printing was good, quality was good, and the helium kept them nicely aloft in the hot sun for a whole afternoon. But on the whole, it wasn't worth it because of the very expensive prices and the horrible service. read more

We used Balloon Saloon to help create some impactful displays at our wedding this past weekend. I found their staff (particularly Tiffany) to be incredibly helpful and consultative in helping us design the right design for our event. We ended up with a large 11' partial arch and a ton of loose balloons. If I had just gone in myself, it wouldn't been super plain. Tiffany helped us to really liven up the piece with glitter balloons, various sizes, and convinced me to expand our color palette, which ended up working out beautifully! Delivery and setup was right on time and super seamless. The guy that did the setup (I forget his name unfortunately) was lovely to work with and did an incredible job. They have a good selection of those...a basket of vibrant solid colors and a basket of little kid cartoon themes, like Dora etc. I was mesmerized by the tiny store...the fake poop decoys were cool, and they have random fun stuff that I'm sure comes in handy in specific situations. Despite some indecision and last minute requests on my part, Balloon Saloon always accommodated me without any hesitation. The balloons were fabulous and delivered as requested. UPDATE - just found a terrific alternative for balloons at HALF the PRICE around the corner. Prime Essentials on Leonard and Broadway, 50c per balloon on a string, with a weight. PERFECT!! Balloon Saloon is full of hot air - take your biz elsewhere. Living in the neighborhood for 15 yrs I have seen the business grow from the small, narrow shop on Duane St before they knocked through to the corner space. Unfortunately they have lost the spirit for why they began, to make people smile. Instead on numerous occasions I find their family of owners to be cranky, testy and generally unpleasant to deal with. Not only have I experienced their impatience when placing and order, but their general disregard when there is a problem with a delivery, a defective toy or question about decorative services is a real turn off. Their balloons barely hold their air and are flat almost before the party is over. Today they were so rude to my 4 year old trying to buy a toy car, I couldn't believe it. For the amount of money they charge predominately local clientele, I generally expect a little warmth, professionalism and courtesy. Sadly, this is not the case and with the business expansion, these guys are now all about the money - and a competitor in Soho/Tribeca is long overdue. So... It's quarter after 5 yesterday evening and my boss informs me that she wants balloons for our meeting today at 9am. Of course my normal balloon place, which I have always used for meetings and events, closes at 5 pm on the dot. Still not all hope was lost; you see our office is relatively near a party supply store, so I decided that I would just pick up the balloons on my way into the office. Excellent service and product. We were having a memorial gathering for my husband, and I wanted balloons to release in his memory. With everything going on, I only called Dr. Balloon Delivery the day before the gathering, but they readily took my order. They had the exact colors I wanted and promised to deliver 50 balloons the next day by 1:00 pm. Dr. Balloon Delivery actually delivered the balloons 45 minutes early, and they were exactly what I wanted.
