My Connecticut relatives recommended this place which they said had recently moved to a new location which is quite attractive. We had to wait about 20 minutes for the table, and a gentleman coming out said "try the pork shank it's out of this world," and I would like to, but I couldn't pass up the potato dumplings which I haven't seen on a restaurant menu except during my trip to Lithuania. They are grated potatoes made into a ball around ground meat which my family called zeppelins. They are hard to make and these were excellent and very large portion. I also had the hot red beet borscht which the waitress said was Ukrainian style. It had a slightly different flavor than any other borscht I've had and I think it was flavored with juniper berries. Highly recommended. One friend had the Gdansk combination platter which was huge, stuffed cabbage, pierogies, superior quality kielbasa, and the biggest and best potato pancakes ever. Another friend had the bigos, a hunter's stew with a sauerkraut base while the third had a kielbasa rueben, which I guess is the restaurant's invention. All were satisfied. The only minuses were the food took a long time to come, although the staff was very apologetic, the serving of Coke was tiny and the water was not filled enough. But the unique food was worth it. We didn't try it, but the food isn't strict;y Polish, they have Central European dishes such as schnitzel and stroganoff. There are a couple of good Polish restaurants in Philadelphia, but this spot offers much more variety. read more

My husband and I always enjoyed the Baltic, but kept hearing great reviews about Staropolska, so we tried it. Well, I'm here to tell all no comparison to the BALTIC. The restaurant itself is beautiful, spacious and so clean. The service was wonderful, in speaking to management they are going to introduce new specials to their customers. Now to the food, AWESOME! Being polish, so going there for that, no comparison to the other place. The potato pancake light, airy, and crispy. The pierogi's small but great filling. First time trying blueberry pierogi, loved them. Other polish foods were wonderful, stuffed cabbage, kielbasa, pork dishes. Unbelievably delicious nalesniki, apple fritters and more for dessert. I really liked this place. I don't understand the bad reviews. It's Polish food. It is not going to be light fare. The pierogis are excellent, as was the stuffed cabbage and crepes. My daughter had penne a la vodka, and that was good, too. My husband like his Bryzol, if that's the correct name. The décor is dated and different, but that's part of the charm. Ordered take out, I had bigos and my friend had golabki. Asked person who checked us out if there was forks in the to go bag she replied they had no forks just spoons. To sum up the experience we had with Baltic, I'd like to say that these people deserve every dollar of business you can give them. From the quality of the food to the friendly service, we were very impressed. The owners are originally from Poland and modeled the building after a prominent old manor house in their home village. The restaurant itself is very beautiful, especially inside. For events, they offer a very reasonable and delicious catering service, and you can also rent out their beautiful ballroom (we held a reception there). The dishes themselves are well-priced for what you get, which is excellent quality. I personally had the Bigos, or Hunter's Stew - sausage and pork mixed with sauerkraut and a side of potatoes. I was very impressed, as was my grandma who has cooked many of the dishes herself at one point or another. Other items on their menu include mouth-watering sandwiches during their lunch hours and various soups and salads. I didn't get a good look at the dinner menu, but there was quite a bit of variety. Baltic has most definitely found itself a niche in New Britain's large Polish community and anyone with a taste for Eastern European cuisine would do well to support this wonderful, family-owned and operated business. read more

Just returned from a delicious dinner at the Baltic. It is a beautiful facility and the food was amazing. My husband had the pork shank and it was fall off the bone amazing! I had a special that included saurkraut and kielbasa, potato pancakes, perogies, sour cream and applesauce, and a stuffed cabbage roll. (I needed a box to take some home- it was huge) Everything was amazing! We also had a salad that had homemade croutons. Had polish apple pie for desert- it came warm and was super yummy. The whole time we were eating we kept making mmmm sounds. The waitress was very nice and helped us choose our polish beer selections. We will definitely be back! read more

We used to go to Baltic in their old location on Mill St. in Berlin (in the late 1990's?); I am happy to report that they are bigger and better than ever! Excellent, fresh, ingredients; carefully prepared food, really good, reasonably priced. nice house wines; fine service, and both mainstream and authentically Polish dishes. The Krakow Special - $15--is an excellent sampler & value (one stuffed cabbage, four pierogi, one cheese crepe, two potato pancakes); the roasted beet and Caesar salads are excellent....the violinist/pianist Elizabeth Romanov, a Juilliard graduate, is a fine musician and provides great entertainment....."Baltic" is highly recommended! read more

I have lived in Berlin my entire life and knew about this place but I never got around to eating here until yesterday and I am glad that I did. When you first walk in there is a large staircase to your right and bathrooms straight ahead and the dining area for the restaurant is to the right of the restrooms closed off by two doors which can be confusing for someone who has never been here before. Since there was no host or hostess at the podium in the entryway I went inside the dining area and was seated by the waiter that was there at the time. I noticed that other reviewers on yelp were served dinner rolls with their meals but I got rye bread when I ate here which is fine with me. Anyways I ordered the potato and cheese pierogi lunch special with a salad, I got them boiled and was very pleased with the entire meal. The only minor issue was that the cooks screwed up my order and cooked a different type of pierogi than what I had ordered because at the time they had a party of 10 people in the restaurant so I waited longer than expected for the entree. Other than the screw up in the kitchen I had a good dining experience and will be returning in the future. read more

Went to The Baltic Restaurant after my uncle's funeral. Really beautiful banquet room and the food for the buffet was delicious. They served fresh green beans, ziti, sausage with peppers and onions, sliced roast beef in gravy, chicken masala, salad and apple cake. The roast beef melted in your mouth. I can't wait to go back and eat in their restaurant and try their traditional Polish food. I'm sure it's delicious also. The service was very good also, can't leave the servers out. Beautiful building. Two parties going on this Saturday night, one upstairs and one across the hall. Kind of loud but we were treated to live piano for the duration of our meal. This drowned out the ambient noise and set a very nice mood for dinner. Best stuffed cabbage since my grandma made it! I got the Krakow Special. Although it was delicious, the perogies, potato pancakes and even the crepes were deep fried. Too rich and unhealthy. Served with sour cream, but no applesauce. The portions are out of this world. The food was delicious and the price was very reasonable. The ambience was beautiful. We went on a Friday and they had a women playing the piano and violin. The restaurant consists of not only a delicious Polish/American Cuisine but also provides great service and a pleasing climate. The new building of Baltic Restaurant grasps everyones attention. The architecture, decoration and the elegance astounds all of the clients. I consistently invite my all guests to this amazing restaurant for a great taste of our Polish Culture. Wow, This place was so much better when it was at a different location and just a small hole in the wall. I had the Gdansk plate which is a combination of Polish food. The stuffed cabbage was just plain and the sauce with it was bland. The Kielbasa had to be the worst I've ever had. Seemed like in every bite there was gristle? or fat witch was just unchewable. The pierogi seemed to be deep fried and were very dry. The sauerkraut & potato pancakes were OK but nothing special. The service was fair at best. It seems the waitresses don't use a waiters tray and bring out each dish one by one in their hands?? and the kicker was my beer wasn't even that cold ! I will go to the Polish Home in Hartford the next time I crave Polish food. read more

Only reason this got the 2 stars, was that server was good. Food not so much. I came in on a Thursday evening around 7PM. The restaurant was nearly empty with just two people at another table and two at my table. I ordered the Krakow special. The stuffed cabbage was quite bland without much flavor. The pierogies and the blintz were ok, but nothing special.. i saved the potato pancakes for last, expecting them to be my favorite part of the meal. Unfortunately the pancakes were very greasy, tasting of cheap vegetable oil. Maybe, I was just there at a bad time when they were ready to close, as the other reviews seem to be largely positive, but I did not enjoy this food at all. read more

We go out to eat often and I have to say the food here was pretty horrible and the service was sub par --- and we were the only 2 customers there. Almost every single thing that came to our table was SUPER greasy. The baltic platter appetizer was horrible you can tell it was not fresh the mushrooms def came from a can. We ordered the Gdansk and the Warsaw -- terribly greasy both plates. The only decent thing we had was the stuffed cabbage and the bread. My father passed away recently, and when looking for a caterer to provide some of the good Polish food he grew up with and loved, we found Baltic. The food was wonderful -- bigos, pierogi, potato pancakes, some pasta and chicken marsala for any guests who wanted something else, and a beautiful tossed salad (variety of lettuces, grape tomatoes -- very fresh and appealing). The food was delicious, the service was wonderful, and this was exactly what we needed to feel like we were having the right celebration of my father's life. I can't express how grateful we are for all of the kind help and assistance, especially as this was on short notice. I live out of state but will definitely be coming back to visit Baltic next time I am in the area, and highly recommend them. read more

Went for lunch on a Saturday with a SaveNowCT.com 50% off coupon. Only one other couple in the restaurant. (Parking lot was full due to wedding banquet. Not a problem inside because restaurant is nicely separated from banquet hall.) Yes, the food is excellent, but prepare for sticker shock. Even with our half-off coupon, we still spent more for lunch than at Fatherland without any coupons. They apparently don't have a separate lunch menu or lower prices for luncheon portions. read more

The Baltic Restaurant was recommended by a Polish friend of mine. The building is beautiful, inside and out. Wait staff was courteous and knowledgeable. I tried the Pickle Soup...out standing! Wow. What happened to this once fine restaurant. I took my Polish family there last evening raving about the meal we enjoyed there before they moved to their new location. Our experience last night was, in a word, terrible. Every deep fried dish was overcooked and grease soaked. Pierogi, potato pancakes, weiner schnitzel - hard to tell which tasteless dish was what. They were not only not authentic, but dry and tasteless. There was NO SOUP of any kind available at all, hours before the scheduled closing time. We asked for rye bread and were told that they were "looking for it in the basement." Way to whet my appetite! The waitress looked vaguely annoyed that we were there. We had to prompt her to take our beverage order after she sat us and asked for our dinner order. The restaurant was completely empty except for our party. We tried a variety of entrees and all were almost inedible. I will never go back and would caution readers to look at reviews of this restaurant on other sites as well. They are enlightening and sadly, in our case completely reliable. I am embarassed that my family spent their last night visiting me at this restaurant which I had raved about. Be forwarned. read more
