I went for lunch on Friday with my sons with the intent on getting a pizza, but after viewing the menu we decided to get the lunch specials. Me and one of my sons got the Chicken Marsala, which is my go to dish at Italian restaurants and it didn't disappoint, first thing I noticed was the taste of the Marsala sauce, it was velvety and slightly sweet and not over salted, the second thing was how the chicken was perfectly cooked. I commented on how good the dish was and server/owner said that everything they make is prepared after it is ordered, no precooked chicken, no precooked sauce, no precooked mushrooms and it shows, the dish was amazing, I highly recommend this restaurant! read more

I love this hidden gem. Reasonable prices and friendly people. Their bolognese (red meat sauce) is delicious and will feed you for days. You also get a salad, homemade bread and a beverage with it. We haven't had a bad meal yet and we order every time we visit a friend in Cromwell. We've never eaten in there but it looks quaint. read more

Arrived 15 minutes after opening with 7 hungry family members from out of state. We were able to eat some good food and were the only ones in the restaurant. It was supposed to be a pizza break but after reading the menu everyone decided to order otherwise. The only disappointment was the Buffalo Chicken pizza and ended up as take out. The servings were huge and much of the food got traded off as there were car trips and airport leavings. For me the highlight was the bread and garlic knots preceding the meal...delicious. My fried calamari was tasty and the side caesar salad was huge but after gorging on bread I didn't get into it much. I don't know how I forgot to leave a review after uploading all of my photos from our dinner here, but I did! My husband and I came here last month after a friend told him about this place and I'm soooooo glad they did. I ordered the chicken Siciliana meal that came with a side salad, foccacia, a glass of wine, and the meal itself which I had enough food for 3 whole meals then. It was AMAZING. We also split an order of cheesy garlic bread that would put other restaurants out of business. I would have never known this place exists and I have driven past here many many times already and am upset I've lived down the road for almost 4 years and now know it's here. Ordered two Lobster Ravioli with Shrimp dinners for take-out during a February snowstorm. Yeah, that's right. OK, so it took us an extra 10 minutes to get there, but the food was waiting and hot when we arrived. The order was thoughtfully packed with no leakage unless you count the aroma... well... we may have gone home a little quicker. At home, we unpacked the meal, and just opening the containers was an olfactory thrill. Everything smelled so delicious, so perfect! Then of course, the first bite... WHAT A TREAT! Tender shrimp sautéed with fresh garlic, fresh tomatoes and spinach in a lighter-than-it-looked brandy pesto cream sauce over--yup--lobster-stuffed raviolis! IT WAS OUT OF THIS WORLD! The fresh garden salad (it had lovely sliced radishes, to give you an idea) and the fresh warm bread were the perfect touches that made this meal a culinary feast for the senses! I would not hesitate to recommend this superb item from this lovely trattoria to anyone interested in reclaiming fine dining from the clutches of this pandemic. It was simply SUPERB! read more

We went back to use our Groupon and we were met with some reluctance on their part. They limited what we could order with the Groupon certificate. The food and service were just adequate and once that Groupon came out, not very friendly at all. We did leave a nice tip based on the real total to make up for any loss in the meal price. If we lived closer we might be inclined to go there again but I doubt we will go out of our way to go there again. read more

And the prices cannot be beat given that there is a salad and bread included. I haven't tried any of their other dinners but have heard good things. Their pizza, however, was lacking. We ordered an ABC special pizza but there was just something off with the crust and the sauce. And the fact that their mushrooms come from a can did not help. But go for the eggplant! I live within walking distance of ABC, and it's a really great place to walk to and grab a pizza to take over the park. The pizza is very good, with a lot of varieties. And the prices...you can't beat the prices. Every time I go there, there is some deal or coupon. Sometimes, I can get a large pizza for under $10. If you're dining in, the food is really good for classic Italian - lasagna or manicotti - with salad and bread. And did I mention, the prices are a steal! The one area where they really need to improve is the decor on the inside of the restaurant. It looks like it has not been renovated in about 25 years. Some of the details are off a bit...the signs on the outside are hand written and usually have some type of misspelling. There are signs advertising seafood...I'm not really sure who goes to ABC Pizza for seafood, but I I'll go elsewhere for my scallops. A little focus, a revamped interior and some good marketing would go a long way. The service is efficient but does not have a lot of energy to it. But I can tell the family works really hard, and I've never had to wait! Overall, I really like ABC. I can walk down the street and get really good pizza and support a local business. read more

I've eaten here a handful of times and the food has been delicious! The free bread before your meal is to die for. I've eaten their pizza and I've tried pasta dishes. You won't be disappointed with either. Like the other reviewer mentioned, the service is good but lacks energy. It's a small, family run place so they are probably just exhausted by the time I go in there for dinner. And the decor....leaves a bit to be desired. All in all, it's a great deal for the price. I've been coming here for almost a year and every time I go I never get a smile or any kind of courteous service. The food is outrageously over priced. I went there a few weeks ago and the pizza tasted like play-doh. I literally mean play-doh. My 2 year old son didn't even eat it: a child that loves his pizza! I stumbled upon ABC one night while the lines were long at every commercial restaurant around the Middletown/Cromwell area. It's a small family owned business with spacious booths where you can always get a seat. The food is great. There are favorable portions for adults and kids and the bread is fabulous that they put out before the dinner comes. It is a little on the pricey side. I haven't seen any coupons personally for the meals, but I'm not sure about the pizza. The only advice I want to give everyone is don't go here if you don't have a lot of time. It's very slow moving, but if you have the time and some extra cash, it's a great place to stop on a Friday or Saturday night when you don't want to have a long wait somewhere else. My current favorite. We've been here a few times now and it has not disappointed; last time was Mother's day evening and it was very quiet. Not sure why, maybe everyone does brunch and lunch? But I digress; the prices are quite reasonable; our entrees were $17.95 which included a generous salad and bread (with a dish of tomato sauce for dipping). I had a chicken dish with artichokes and capers (Chicken Siciliano?) and usually, the artichoke hearts at restaurants include some woody material, but not here. Chicken dish also came with a generous pasta side in some sort of wine sauce; it was delicious. Can't remember what my wife had but she was as happy with her meal as I was. She got her pasta with a red sauce which was quite good. Mom and my brother were also quite happy with their meals. Nice kind of retro ambiance, a mix of older folks and young families other times we've been there. This is a family owned restaurant and the workers are friendly and attentive. The environment is nice and comfortable for either lunch, a quiet dinner, or for a night out with your friends. They have really changed the place and made it a great looking restaurant to dine in anytime. The service is fast, but they do take time preparing the food just right for the customers. I had chicken piccata with capers and fresh rosemary and I was fully satisfied. The chicken was soft and the flavors were tasty. I would recommend this restaurant for any occassion. This is a place I will always come back to. I have been dining at this place for over 10 years. Even though I live 25 minutes away I still go out of my way to dine here. You can choose where you would like to sit which I love because I am super picky about where I want to sit in a restaurant. They serve bread prior to your meal. The food is VERY fresh and authentic. Everything tastes like a homemade meal. The portions are great whenever I go there's always left overs to take home. Well, my experience started off well enough.The service was good and the food was average. Upon receiving our bill for $60+ I gave the waitress a voucher I had purchased for $30 (I paid $15) and my credit card for the balance. She picked up the voucher and had a look of horror on her face. She said, oh, I don't know if we can take this, you didn't present it before ordering (it did not state that anywhere on the voucher) and you had a "special" ($9.99 chicken and broccoli which was no deal). I said, oh you will take it, that is why we came here today. She went to talk to the "manager". She returned and said the manager will accept it THIS time, but he had to change the price of your special to $13.99. I was livid. I said, well, then put the special on a separate check and I will pay cash for it and then I will use the voucher for the rest of the dinners (which still totaled well over the $30 value of the voucher). She walked away without saying a word. She returned and said, ok, he changed it back to $9.99. I paid the bill and of course tipped on the full amount. We left after having what was a pleasant evening ruined. Apparently the owner of ABC doesn't believe in good customer service. He wasted his advertising by squabbling over $4. What a shame. We probably would've gone back at some point, but now we won't and I am writing this review to let others know about my experience. read more

While shopping nearby, this restaurant was recommended by a local store owner. She didn't steer us wrong! We ordered the special - bread, salad, your choice of one of four entrees AND a glass of wine, beer or soda all for one low price! The bread was warm and wonderful and came with a nice marinara. The chicken Parm with penne was flavorful and cooked to perfection. The whitefish was also yummy albeit a little greasy. The house wine was very good. This is definitely a place to make regular dining out trips to! The family that owns it are genuine, friendly, hardworking folks that put their hearts into every single thing they create. Everything is homemade and with fresh ingredients, unlike so many other local chain restaurants. The typical italian dishes are wonderful and the sauce is amazing. However, if you order something different like a steak or fish, you won't be dissapointed! The waitstaff is also very welcoming. Two in particular- Jen and Bucci, have been there for a long time and know their customer's names by heart. They are very friendly and the service is very quick. They are also fast to get bread and kid's dinners to the table because they know how hungry little kids get! This is a great place to have a couple's night out or take your family.
