Updated review after new ownership. Do not let the good reviews from previous owners fool you. There is certainly potential here, but after my third take-out order I am left disappointed again and I will not be trying again. The staff are not friendly whatsoever and I felt like I was inconveniencing them by picking up my food. Every time the food took way longer than I was told. I don't mind waiting, but just tell me not to come for longer so I'm not sitting there waiting. This last time they told me 35 minutes and it took 65 minutes so I was sitting in the dining room for 30 minutes waiting. They For food, there is potential. The first time I ordered the birria. The flavors of the meat were wonderful, and the portion size was generous, but the tacos were very greasy/soggy. Maybe because I got them to go... The second time I ordered a small al pastor pizza. The pictures they posted on Facebook looked delicious. But mine came without the onions or cilantro which was a bit disappointing. Third time I ordered a birria pizza which took over an hour and was very undercooked. I was hoping the new owners would do well but I don't see that happening and unfortunately do NOT recommend this place. read more

The new owner is as so pleasant and welcoming. He had added authentic Mexican food to their menu and it's AMAZING The sign outside left us skeptical saying there was Mexican food at an Italian restaurant but oh made sense once we walked in! New ownership with the hopes of bringing the Mexican menu as the main (I'd assume) eventually. The rice and fried beans were authentic, real, fresh and made with love. We had three tacos and the enchiladas. Everything was clearly made From scratch from a chef who knows the true art of this cuisine. He mentioned hoping to get his liquor license in the next few months, adding a margarita to this meal would have been a cherry on top of the already amazing dishes we had! We got the Mexican menu, it's BYOB (bring your own beer and wine), everything we had was solid; carne asada fries, 3 tacos & the kids quesadilla. Tacos have a lot of meat. We lived in California for 5 years and this is as close to authentic Tijuana style tacos we've had in this area. Don't forget to ask for the green salsa! We'll be back for sure. read more

Ordered takeout. Chose the sampler and a pepperoni mushroom pizza. The sampler was smaller than expected but delicious. Chicken fingers, potato skins and mozzarella sticks. Absolutely tasty. Terrible service despite we were the only 2 there and food took forever and ended up being horrible. No sauce on the pizza and soda was flat and we told the waitress and she did nothing about it. We were treated poorly and then after not leaving a tip we discovered our cards were charged with a tip included!! We found Maria's on accident when we were trying to eat breakfast elsewhere but didn't have cash on us. Our first breakfast was pretty good, the pancakes and scrambled eggs passed my stringent tests. This started intriguing us as to what else Maria's had instore. We went back several times for lunch and dinner. We always eat in, the wait staff is good, it's hardly busy when we go. The food is consistently good. Turkey club is really good. Meatball grinder is good. Pizza is good. The dining room is modest size, quiet and serves the purpose of eating. We've had the same wait staff each time who is pleasant and efficient. Maria's accidentally our new favorite place. read more

Under new ownership- they're now a Mexican place as well. Really wanted to like it, the food was nothing to write home about. The service was incredibly slow and poor, there were only 2 other parties so I can't justify slow service in a mostly empty restaurant. read more

We came for the first time recently and had a very nice dinner. None of us had pizza so obviously, we'll have to come back. My BLT was perfect, light crispy roll, just the right amount of bacon, nicely cooked and fresh veggies with shredded lettuce. My father-in-law got a grilled ham and cheese, as advertised, and it must have hit the spot because he finished every bite. My husband had the fried chicken dinner and could barely finish it. It was quiet inside on a Tuesday evening with a steady number of take-out clients, our waitress was super nice, and the prices were very reasonable. Now we have to go have some pizza! haha read more

Popped in for lunch and ordered a crispy chicken sandwich on a hard roll. Very disappointed with the quality chicken in the sandwich. The chicken was from a frozen patty that had no crisp at all, and had the consistency you'd expect from processed chicken meat. I was expecting a fresh chicken breast, with a golden crispy breading crust, and tender juicy white meat, that was fried to perfection. It would have made this sandwich a winner because the other ingredients were quite good - nice hard roll, and fresh toppings with the side of pickle. Too many good reviews for this place to bad? I'd like to give these folks another go, but order something else. I like to think I ordered the wrong item. read more

This place has been around forever and stays open because of the outstanding food and super friendly staff / owner. First of all, it's hands down the best onion rings around. These are light and fluffy onion straws that I sometimes find at shoreline seafood restaurants, but wouldn't expect to have at a Greek pizza place in Colchester. I love their gyros and salads. I have not been in for breakfast but they serve it later into the day. I know they offer French toast stuffed with cream cheese and strawberries and I hear it's delicious. Big menu with lots of interesting dishes I have never seen before (such as kielbasa and pierogies with eggs on the breakfast menu). They also have a decent beer selection as well as wine. Prices are very affordable considering the large portion sizes. Prepare to bring home a to-go container! read more

We just moved to Colchester and this was the first place we ordered from. The pizza was great, the fish grinder was great and my wife loved her broccoli and chicken Alfredo. Let me say that one of our daughters is a fairly picky eater and she loved the garlic knots! Honestly the best garlic knots we ever had. When I walked in I was greeted by everyone and even the kitchen staff all said hello. It was an excellent welcome to the town and we continue to order from here! I've been here several times and over all I've never been disappointed. The pizza is greek style and very good the toppings are always very generous. To be honest my favorite part of this restaurant is breakfast! My family and I have been going on Sunday mornings, the service is quick and they have a $10 hungry man special that I always have troble finishing. They do serve alcohol so I'm trying to get there for 11 AM breakfast so I can have a beer with my french toast. The signage for this place is pretty weak and its easy to drive right by. Good food for a very reasonable price. My fiancé and I go there quite a bit and we often will order a pizza. The crust is always done perfectly, they're very generous with their toppings, and the dough is nice and thick. I'll sometimes order a cheeseburger when I don't feel like pizza, and everything about the burger, from the bun to the patty, is perfect. My steak arrived MR as requested, eggs were plentiful, and home fries fresh and not over cooked. My son's bacon was perfectly cooked; many places I've been to overlook home fries and bacon. I don't know why they call it an Italian restaurant. Everybody is Greek. But that's OK, who do think taught the Italians to cook? Well if these guys wanted to teach I think all their students would get straight "A"s. The setting is as plain as it can get but the food and good prices more than make up for that. I go there much too often but I have never gotten a bad meal and the kids love it. Their salads are the best, really, truly excellent. We usually get a couple of pies, a grinder, a hamburger, fish & chips and I'll get a dinner entree. Last week I got the chicken parm and it was outstanding. There were six of us, everybody got what they wanted, pop, milkshakes, etc. and with a 20% tip I got out of there for $75. Not bad huh? The service is A#1 too. I think the lighting could be a little better and maybe somebody could turn a radio on low but what the hey, you can't beat it. nice. read more

This is probably my favorite restaurant in town, the owners are all extremely nice and the food they make ranges from easy quick bites to well prepared dinners. They specialize in Italian and Greek fare because the owners are Greek. As for their pizza, it is one of the best Greek style pizzas in the area. What a fun place, what a great value and what good food. This is a comfort food traditional Greek diner. Everyone speaks Greek if you are interested. The salads are great, tasty and healthy. The hot meals are the usual Eggplant Parmigianino but you also get a bowl of great home made soup and a salad and a giant bowl of pasta. It is always a meal and a half. Dimitri is a good cook, Maria is a fun person to talk to and the rest of the people there get to know you and anticipate your needs and wants. I grew up on Greek Pizza, and I had hoped I would find some in Colchester. After a tip from a friend of mine, I was turned onto Maria's. Maria's serves the best Greek pizza in the area. The footprint of the restaurant is small, and I have only done takeout, but every time I visit I am greeted by the friendly staff, and I am never disappointed by the food. I've taken advantage of their buy 3 large pizzas get the 4th free deal a few times. It is good if you have to feed a bunch of people! My fiancé and I stumbled upon this place as we were in the area and we're not disappointed. We shared a small buffalo chicken pizza and a half meatball grinder. The pizza was absolutely amazing and there was just enough Buffalo sauce on the chicken and the meatball grinder was huge for a half and so flavorful, the meatballs melted in my mouth. The pasta dishes are very well made. I was very pleased with the stuffed shells. The problem I had was when I ordered lunch. I really wanted a turkey with bacon sandwich on a hard roll. So I ordered it to go. When I got home I opened the carry out box and saw bread with lettuce and 2 slices of turkey... I counted. Two slices. I felt pretty ripped off also considering I was charged 24$ for this and another sandwich like this. Their online menu says that lunch sandwich comes with soup or salad , fries or onion rings. I was charged extra for this and I didn't even get a soup or salad with the other sandwich but was still charged as if I ordered it. My advice is if anyone wants a sandwich worth its weight is to go to Westchester market across the street. You get practically a pound put on your hard roll. read more
