Terrible communication. I had been seeing Dr. Spagnolo for years, and the practice never informed me that he left. My husband showed up for his appointment, and it was with a completely new doctor he'd never met. Now, it seems Dr. Betancourt is gone -- also ZERO communication to patients. It also appears the practice has been sold, as they are now going by the name "Horizon Eye Physicians." When a medical practice is sold, there should be a state law that patients are informed. I'm definitely in the market for a new ophthalmology practice. (No idea why my profile is showing as San Francisco, as I am in Maryland.) read more

I've been going to BWEye Center for about 2 years. I have always had a good experience. I currently see Dr. Aggarwal. She is patient and thorough. She takes time with me and explains everything. I am giving 2 stars because my family has been going here for over 20 years with no issues and the doctors have always been great. However, this past fall, during my routine eye visit, they told me that I had to have laser eye surgery on both eyes (not emergency, but soon). I have both VSP vision insurance and good medical insurance. I have always used my VSP insurance with no issues. However, for eye surgery they are using medical insurance and they contacted the insurance with the details and I was quoted the price of $89 per eye after insurance. I thought that was pretty good so I was happy. However, after the surgery, my bill was over $400 per eye. After much discussion, the billing office admitted they were wrong to have quoted me the low price (but of course didn't honor that price). However, I decided that the regular price should have been higher so I paid the entire bill. At the last surgical appointment they wanted to schedule a followup appointment, and since I was due for a regular VSP appointment, I asked to make sure it was coded for that instead of medical insurance. They assured me that it was coded correctly. So. I went to that appointment in January and immediately noticed that it was coded for a medical appointment. BEFORE I WENT BACK to be seen, I discussed this with the receptionist. She went back and talked to somebody, and eventually everyone agreed that it would be under the regular VSP visit. Visit was great and then 2 weeks later I see that it was sent to regular medical insurance and that I owed over $100 instead of the $10 VSP payment. So I called AGAIN TWICE. Eventually talked to a billing person. They eventually said that they would resubmit the claim correctly. Yesterday received another bill for over $100 again so obviously they did not do it correctly. So... I have spent hours trying to get this corrected and now I give up. I will just pay the $100 but I will not be returning to this practice. read more

I have been having some issues with my left eye. First it was a stye. Then the same left eye was dreadfully red. One thing after the next. I was referred to this location by my primary care. I saw Dr. Strier Ok so my appointment was for 08:40 am. Now I arrived on time for my appointment. Checked in and paid my co-pay. Now Why Did I see the Dr exactly 1 hour later. I heard her with the other patients but I was trying to figure out what time was their appointments. I really don't see how you can be running so far behind schedule with such an early appointment. Now maybe it's because I work in a Dr's office and I felt like something should have been said. Like sorry I'm behind schedule. Of course nothing was said in reference to that. Maybe it's an ongoing thing. Not sure but nevertheless the Dr. Was nice and very informative. She explained what my condition was called and gave me a handout on what I could do to for treatment. The handout explained alot.I learned somethings and I plan on making a follow-up appointment in 6 weeks. Hopefully they will be running on time because I did have to go to work that day and was not expecting to be there for so long. Other than that seems like a nice optometry office. Baltimore Washington Eye Center - Optometrists Near Me - Glen Burnie, Maryland

On my first visit to this facility on 03/06/23, I felt I was treated fairly. I went there because of double vision and lightheadedness. The doctor diagnosed scar tissue on my cataract implant and scheduled me for Lazar surgery. This was done on 04/10/23, without any issues and I was scheduled to return on 05/15/23. When I returned I stated to the doctor that 3 days before my return visit my eyes felt much worse and the double vision was worse instead of better, which the Lazar surgery was supposed to correct. She stated "you can read one line better" and this reply stunned me. She then said "you have conjunctivitis " and prescribed Prednisolone Acetate, return in 4 weeks and left. When I tried to make my return appointment, I was told she didn't have any in 4 weeks , I could have an appointment in 7 weeks. I didn't find that acceptable so I left. I used the prescription for over 4 weeks with no results so I decided to get a second opinion which resulted in a doctor that really cared and was determined to get a diagnosis for me. I was in his office for 3 hours, had multiple tests and a diagnosis was made. Thank you to this doctor that really knew what he was doing. read more

CONSUMER BEWARE! The doctors are good, but if you like your money, DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THEM. I was charged for a billing error ON THEIR PART and tried to resolve it amicably, even taking my complaint to their Business Manager and Chief Operating Officer. Both promised to look into the matter, then completely ignored my request to follow up. I waited to write this review in the hopes they would respond to the Better Business Bureau, which they have also ignored. Two of my family members had their Lasik done there and we were given good medical care from the doctor and nursing staff. As much as it pains me to write a negative review, I feel it is imperative that I share my experiences. I can only say kind things about the doctors and medical staff. I've been going here for a little over two years and my eye appointments have always been pleasant. I cannot say the same for my experiences in ordering glasses. The first time I had an issue ordering glasses was last winter. I ordered a pair and it took over 2 months for the office to receive the glasses from the manufacturer. This was explained to me because of flaws in the glasses lenses. When I finally did receive my glasses, when I took them home I noticed only one lens had the non glare coating. When I called I was told there was no way they would let me take home glasses without the coating on both lenses, but I took them back and lo and behold, I was right. It only took 2 weeks after that process to get them back. I had an appointment earlier this month and picked out a different pair of glasses. The young man helping me seemed to be annoyed I wasn't ready to make a decision and was hovering. I even came to my appointment early so I wouldn't feel rushed into a decision. I chose my frames and had a very pleasant appointment. It has now been over 2 weeks since that appointment and I haven't heard anything about the status of my glasses, so I called. The young lady that helped me on the phone was very apologetic and explained that my order was never placed, my frame choices never noted in my file, and there was nothing they could do about it. I am beyond annoyed at the incompetence of the staff that was responsible for this mistake. This is the 2nd time I've ordered glasses here, the 2nd time I've had issues and the last time I will be returning. read more

My initial experience with the Baltimore Washington Eye Center was good because I was just getting new glasses. Everyone was nice and helpful and I received my glasses in a decent amount of time (I wanted them for wedding but they came in the day I was leaving to go out of town). Then I had to deal with Lori.... She was rude, when I was finally able to get her on the phone, and when I asked her to fax or email me my perscription she said I had to either come pick it up or she would mail it to me. Really? No fax/email available? I call BS. Anyway, while on the phone she asked me what my previous perscription was and amazing enough that's what my new perscription was as well, nevermind the fact that the perscription in my glasses changed. When I asked how this could be the case (just out of curiousity, not to argue) I was told that I needed to make an appointment and come in for another eye exam if I wanted to discuss it any further. I've have been seeing Dr. Spagnolo for over 15 years. He is a phenomenal physician, who takes his time and has a great deal of patience with his patients. My mother in law, who was already a patient of Dr. Spangolo's for years before I knew she was, had both of her cataract surgeries with him, and they were a complete success. He was very thorough and all the staff were extremely friendly and courteous with all of the questions. I would highly recommend the center and know that if you have an issue, address it so that they can better help you and other patients. read more

My daughter thought she was having some vision problems. I made an appointment here but had to wait a couple of weeks for the first available Saturday date. They suggest you register on-line before you get here but I didn't. The paperwork isn't much more than any ordinary doctor's office. Everyone here was friendly and professional. I made an appointment for a regular exam for my wife and I. I was quoted $90 for the exam. The front desk person asked if I wanted a dye eye test. I said no my health plan doesn't have vison coverage. She said the test is free. The exam went well with one of the technicians who performed the routine eye exam and the dry eye test. Dr. Hammer came in for the briefest of time. I asked him a couple of questions, but he couldn't have been more disinterested. I have been told he has since left the practice. As I was checking out I asked my wife if she had paid her $90 exam fee. She said no they told me they would bill the insurance company and her dry eye test would be free. A short time later I received the bills for the eye exams. Both of us were billed $203.97. I was shocked to say the least. The $90 exam fee was now $130.35. The "free" dry eye test was $35 per eye. In addition, a "Refraction" charge of $35 was added to the fees. When I called they denied saying the dry eye test was free and claimed it would free in the sense that it would normally be covered by insurance if it was a "medical procedure." If you go to their web site they have a fly in banner add that says they are a center of "Dry Eye Excellence." To my mind this on the very edge of medical fraud and definitely unethical. This is nothing more than attempt to incur more charges then the quoted $90 exam fee. The fact that this practice seems to be systematic is very troubling. read more

Our family uses the Waugh Chapel location with Dr. McKay. He's been attentive and friendly, but we've had multiple issues with incorrect prescriptions being typed up. I assume this is a staff issue, but perhaps it's his record keeping. In any case, this has been a costly and frustrating set of mistakes in terms of having to wait for correct prescriptions to be mailed, or having to return to the office for another exam. When I went to order glasses elsewhere, I learned my prescription had an axis typed that didn't even exist. Another family member had a completely different set of numbers typed up than what was in the file, resulting in the wrong glasses being made. And now another discovered a prescription with blanks where numbers should be after getting to the eyeglass store to place an order. An optometrist office is not the place to work if you have zero attention to detail! read more

I am so glad a friend told me about BWEye. My children also receive their eye care there, and I have nothing but the highest praise. Spagnolo is great but the location and office itself is a little less desirable. Very dated and not in a great part of Glen Burnie. The billing was fine, however my exam room was kind of dusty, and the wait was semi-long. One good perk is their late hours so you don't have to take off work. A downside is they kinda push for Restasis with a questionnaire. I already have dry eyes, and Restasis is meh. read more

I had some complications with my surgery, and was very not satisfied with Dr. Spagnolo. I would strongly suggest you very thoroughly ask questions directly to the doctor before your procedure, and make sure all of your questions are answered to your complete satisfaction. I found that when I asked questions before the surgery, I was left feeling uneasy. But I came on a referral, so I had the surgery anyway. In hing sight, it was a mistake. The surgery did not go well, and Dr. Spagnolo is much more of a salesman than a doctor interested in helping to resolve and explain issues. (And at this point I even question his skill as a doctor.) If you don't feel he's willing to take the time to answer all of your questions prior to the surgery, believe that he won't take sufficient time with you afterwards. Most concerning, was his insistence that he didn't make a mistake, although the surgery did not go well, I did not get the results promised, and I had complications. The customer satisfaction rates and results he will share with you beforehand are not accurate. I could tell from the way they recorded my own results that they "pad their stats." read more

I saw Dr. Strier at the Turf Valley location back on January 16 for contact lenses and glasses. Dr. Strier has great bedside manner, listens carefully and is trustworthy. Overall, I felt very comfortable at her office. She gave me two types of contacts to try (multiple pairs) and told me to make an appointment to come back to ensure proper fit once I chose a pair that I liked best. This follow-up would still be included in my main exam fee. She even tested me for Glaucoma, which no eye doctor has done successfully in the past 17 years, due to my anxiety of the archaic eye puff test that traumatized me as a kid/teenager (yes. I've been wearing glasses since I was 6). I highly recommend BWEYE Center for all your optical and eye health needs. read more

I have a very difficult prescription and a degenerative eye disease, which makes me a tough patient for even the best of eye professionals. I have been told by some that glasses are my only option. However, I have been a very happy and loyal patient to Lorie, my contact lens technician at BW EYE Ctr. Even though I have lived in Baltimore, Washington D.C. and Virginia Beach over the past twenty years, I have been a patient of Lorie's over that entire time period. Yes, when I lived in VA Beach I would drive up to see Lorie about my contacts when I was in town for other business matters. I was shocked to have read the other reviews on this page regarding other patient's experiences with Lorie. Lorie is a consummate professional and the most charming and patient person you could ever encounter. I have had issues with my contacts in the past, and Lorie has contacted the lab (the lens manufacturer) directly about my eyes, and requested the lab to send a representative to see me. Well, the lab did not send over a technician, instead, the owner of the lab came and met with me and examined my eyes, because of Lorie and her commitment to ensuring that I had the correct fit and comfort with my gas-permeable (HARD) contact lenses. I felt compelled to write this review because I would not want my good name and work reputation spoiled because of the experience of a few of disconsolate customers. I have referred others to BW-EYE center and will continue to support the center and especially Lorie. Lorie is absolutely the best in the business. read more

I went to the Crofton location. I enjoyed my first couple of visits. The doctor was extremely helpful and informative. It took me forever to get the contacts in since I've never had them and they kindly rescheduled the remainder of my appointment for another day. I got a bill for $67 after I was told my insurance fully covered it. I called my insurance and they stated they were just waiting for the doctors office to finalize the bill by placing a contact order. I then call the office and finalize my contacts order. She then states that she can give me a login to the portal for people who aren't insured for me to place orders. I tell her I am insured and it was effective starting 01/01/18. She tells me that their records show my insurance doesn't cover me until 01/01/19 so she can't finalize my bill and that my insurance needs to call her. This is completely wrong, so I call my insurance. They laugh and think I am joking. I explain the situation and they call the office to tell them they are waiting on the doctors office to finalize the bill, they are unable to get through even though the website says they are open until 7. I ended up leaving a message asking them to call the insurance since their information was wrong. I call back today and get sent to voicemail. I decided to call the Crofton office to see if they can help. Holly was so helpful and saw that I was indeed covered, but someone had messed up my chart. She resolved the issue and was so nice and helpful. read more

Personally, every eye exam that I've had, the doctor does the bulk of the exam. I understand getting the pre-test exam portions completed by a tech, but even those are reviewed with the patient by the doctor. I felt that the appointment was rushed, too many patients queued up to be seen and there wasn't any feeling of welcome to a new patient to your practice. Since the 'perceived' new Rx for my glasses was performed by a tech, and never confirmed by the doctor, I'm hoping that I can see out of the $1100 worth of glasses that were purchased. read more

I've been going to Baltimore Washington eye center for I KNOW at least 18 yrs, I love the people there, and my Dr there is awesome! I moved to Bowie and found out they had another location in CROFTON, so I went & cataracts werent bad enough to satisfy my insurance so I still had to buy $500 glasses, I also had my 102 yr old grandmother with dementia living with me, i was her only sole caregiver,I had an appointment at the crofton location & the day of appointment my g'ma fell and busted her face and head so bad rushed to hospital and admitted her with a brain bleed, last thing on my mind was "oh I have an eye appointment" When I did call and explain WHY I couldnt keep my appointment they said oh ok NP, then I got a no show bill in the mail $50 I called and explaind to them AGAIN why I didn't keep the appt, nope they refused to waive the no show fee !! Now, after going there ALL THESE YRS,they lost a loyal patient over a $50 completely waivable fee, that money meant THAT MUCH TO THEM more than I did! So if you DO become a patient there just remember no circumstances in life that might prevent you from keeping your appt is acceptable to them and YOU will be charged a $50 fee! And the sad thing is this was the 1st time I EVER had to miss an appointment in all those yrs! So now I am looking for a NEW opthamolagist... read more

I buy my sons glasses here and saw them today. He does not see an opthomologist at this location. They are one of the few places in the area that carry toddler glasses. Everyone is fairly nice and helpful. Ive had one bad experience but mostly good. They do take some insurances. I would definately recommend them for childrens eye wear read more

Website functionality is mediocre, looked like it was completely failing to receive information even when the submission worked. Then the office called to make an appointment and didn't seem to know I had already submitted all my information online. I showed up for my 1:30 appt at one pm, in case there were any other slip-ups. Seems that 3 or even 4 people all had the same appt with the same doctor. Nothing happened, no one was being seen. Lots of staff coming and going, chatting at the front desk. At 1:45 I went to the desk to ask what was going on. I was told that the doctor had just returned from lunch. I started to ask why they scheduled me for a time when the appt could not possibly happen, but, confronted by a total lack of apology or acknowledgment that things were not going well, I asked for my money back. I expect my time to be valued, and I expect more efficiency in my medical care. read more

I made the mistake of making an appointment here. Not only is the front staff rude, but one of the admins refused to send my claim to my insurance. Everyone at the front desk acted as if I was a nuisance when I asked her to do so. Please take note that the wait was ridiculously long in the waiting room only to be seen for less than 5 minutes by the doctor himself. As I was waiting, I could hear the rudeness in the way they treated other patients and families of other patients. After all that, it was 'trouble' to get my receipt. And a month later after I PAID IN FULL, I receive a bill from them and I still see that they have NOT sent the claim to my insurance. Time to look elsewhere! read more

I came in to the eye center a few weeks ago. I was on the first floor in their new office. I have three kids and the staff here was very polite. Kim the front desk person turned on children shows for my daughters so they would be preoccupied. I feel this sets a very warming and friendly atmosphere for families! Keep it up! read more

just do not go, privately owned, they are rip offs, quote one price give you another, and one of the Dr's in Odenton smelled of scotch or something horrid when i was there....still cant see out of those glasses...I had to call about my claim and the main office is soo rude in GB who does billing..the Odenton office opens when they wish, showed doors locked because Dr wasn't in on time???....what???? read more

Loved the doctor and the exam was good, but they are a rip off when it comes to charging you!! They will give you your prescription, but won't give you the PD# so that you can order glasses on line!! I absolutely loved my experience with my exam at the Baltimore Washington Eye Center. I had the total opposite experience with this center and was totally shocked when I read these reviews. Especially with Lorie! I used to go to another eye center where Lorie worked and loved my experience with her. She is very knowledgable and passionate about her work. I also found her to be very personable and kind. I was very shocked to read these other reviews because I had the total opposite experience and this eye center and with Lorie.
