Disappointed to say the least. This place looked promising and they have a very nice menu. I noticed they were a little pricey but I figured it would be worth it to try. I was mistaken. We ordered sushi rolls and soup. I paid 9 dollars for a "special roll" and only received 4 pieces. Don't get me wrong, the roll was delicious. But I will never pay 9 dollars for half a roll. My sushi was also missing wasabi and Ginger. My vegetable udon soup had hardly any vegetables. For 45 dollars I will say I'm pretty displeased. It's decent food but not worth the expense. This is a cute little place with a surprisingly expansive menu. We sampled buns, rolls, and a fried rice and all were great! The buns were actually huge and the sushi was very fresh. What a gem!!! Dined here for a belated birthday celebration this evening. The restaurant is loud and bustling with college students but very clean and the service is excellent. Enjoyed three sushi roll appetizers to share - Philly, Boston, and Shrimp tempura rolls - excellent. The Panang Curry (with chicken) is the best I've ever had. Excited to try Pad Thai next time...love that the menu includes Japanese, Chinese, and Thai cuisine. And it's not an overwhelming menu either - extensive but the layout is digestible. Other diners in our party enjoyed the Orange chicken, sweet and sour shrimp, and sizzling rice with beef and scallops...everything was 5 star excellent. Can't wait to come back !!! This is not the place to go for sashimi - the deluxe sashimi plate included several pieces of egg and fake crab sticks. Talk about a rip off. The pad Thai was too sugary and felt like it was stir fried with ketchup On the flip side, the curry was spicy and good. Service was good and the place was very clean. Overall I think this is a fine place to go if you're within walking distance but I wouldn't make any special trip out there, especially not for sashimi. read more

We've gone to Bamboo many times and always loved it. We have never had issues here before, but this time around, something had changed. We got there around 7:30, and for a Friday evening, it was surprising that there was no one in the restaurant except us for a while. We ordered a hot and sour soup, and it was good. We also ordered a volcano roll which tasted good, but the portion seemed much smaller. We also ordered pan fried noodles with chicken, and this dish was good too. But the Kung Pao chicken we ordered was not good at all. At first bite the chicken tasted like it was spoiled and the sauce in which it was cooked smelled funny. That same piece of chicken also seemed raw in the middle as when i removed it from my mouth it was still pink inside. We mentioned it to the server and asked if we could send it back and order something else instead. He did not oblige right away but was polite enough to say that he would ask the chef. He then came back with the menu, so we ordered Schezuan shrimp but it too was just ok, tasted funny. Since the dish does not come with enough veggies, we asked if they could add broccoli, mushrooms, snow peas etc... and the server said yes but with an extra charge, and that was fine by us. The dish came back with hardly a couple small pieces of broccoli, one snow pea, a few slices of mushroom, and tons of onion! It was disappointing. That night, both my husband and I felt very bloated, queasy and uncomfortable in the tummy after that meal. I think that due to severely hot weather conditions, maybe the food started to go bad quickly because the temperature in the kitchen may have been very hot which could cause food to spoil quickly. I decided to try this place in-person because I saw it on UberEats. The restaurant is very clean and the decor has a nice vibe to it. The sushi is delicious and definitely fresh. The Chinese rice ball dessert is very sweet and I really loved it. I've never had anything else like it! I ordered the Japanese soda after asking the staff if it was Ramune. They told me no but when it arrived it was Ramune. I was not upset at all because I love Ramune but I think the staff should be a little more knowledgeable about what they serve. Nice restaurant in lovely swarthmore. Food is mediocre at best. I had the chicken and broccoli. Overtenderized chicken that became mushy upon chewing. The broccoli was soupy soft not stir fried crisp. The only redeeming part of the lunch was the hot sour soup, and that was just decent. read more

Bamboo bistro is a great new place in Swarthmore. I love the chicken teriyaki, which comes with a variety of very fresh vegetables. The veggie spring rolls are big and packed with veggies. Worst service i have ever experienced in all of my life. The waiter and cashier were being completely obnoxious and ridiculous. They slammed our drinks on the table and were very abrupt when we gave them our orders. They were not polite whatsoever when we were ordering our food or when we received it. When thanking them they said nothing in return and walked away in disgust. When we payed our checks up at the front desk my friend told the cashier to keep the change. The cashier, however, proceeded to take the change out, and slam it on the front counter. Utterly ridiculous, I have gone to gas stations with better service. read more

After dropping our daughter off at college, my wife and I decided to try this place. The place is fairly small and loud, but it is reasonably decorated. They serve Chinese, Japanese, and Thai food. We weren't sure which we wanted when we went in, but the fact that the sushi rolls were all half price turned us to the sushi. At full price, the rolls seemed a little high, but at half price, they were a great deal. The half price was printed in the menu (with he original price crossed out) so it seems that this is an ongoing thing. There were time restrictions on the half price, but I don't remember what they were; I just know we were in at the right time. Also, half price only applied to the sushi rolls (normal rolls plus special rolls), not any other sushi. The sushi was very good. The number of choices of special rolls was smaller than average (about 10-12 choices), but is a good variety. If this place were local to us, with the half price sushi rolls, we would probably go there all the time. read more

This is a nice convenient place that does a good job with all the different cuisines they offer. The recent addition of dim sum is a really nice touch too. I liked the soup dumplings -we chose the pork with added crabmeat. We also tried the pork steamed buns which were good and other local dim sum places only offer this bun as a vegetarian option. Plus, it doesn't hurt that the hand rolls are currently 50% off, making them very reasonable. Be prepared for a busy seating if you go on a Friday or Saturday while the Swarthmore college students are in session! read more

Ordered takeout here for the first time tonight and was extremely disappointed. I ordered the pork soup dumplings, the alaskan roll and the spicy salmon roll. There was no soup in the dumplings. The spicy salmon roll wasn't the least bit spicy. The alaskan roll had a ridiculously small amount of salmon in it, it was almost entirely avacado and cucumber. For a place so overpriced I expected better quality. If you're looking for good sushi or quality dim sum, save your money and order from somewhere else. read more

Before I complain, I would like to say the food was delicious. I ordered on line and the ordering website was confusing. When I ordered an egg roll I just double-clicked and it was added to cart. When I ordered a meal, a pop up screen appeared to choose sides. There was no "submit" button on that pop up screen. After 10 minutes I figured out how to move my mouse all over the screen until the mouse turned into a picture of a hand. At that point you clicked white screen to add to menu. You cannot pay the bill on the website. When I got there to pick up, my bill was over $10 more than the website indicated. I was told that was because the lunch menu was not available on Sunday. It did not state that anywhere on the website menu. I was embarrassed when they told me my debit card was declined but when I walked across the street I was able to draw the money out of the ATM and the balance in my account was over $1000. That never happened to me before. Finally when I got home there was no duck or soy sauce in the bag (and not on the counter to help yourself at shop). That was disappointing. But worse was there were no crispy noodles for my soup. I will not return. I can find good food elsewhere. read more

I do not know where to start. Well I guess with the bill of $68.00 for hungry Family of 4 who order The BONELESS RIBS which could feed 1. Any of the other restaurants would feed us all. WONTON soup taste like WATER literally WATER! "Shrimp Szechuan" $12.95 for the 12 MUSHY shrimp that were a size of a nickle, I couldn't even eat it! Shrimp with LOBSTER SAUCE $12.95 little bigger shrimp that's probably why there were only 5 shrimp. Shrimp fried rice you can use your imagination.....and at last the Sweet and Sour Chicken and Hot and Spicy noodles Szechuan Style with pork ragout were the only thing edible. What an unbelievable waste of my hard earn MONEY!!! Bamboo Bistro will not be in business for long with the quantity and quality of food!!! Oh please do not let me forget the spicy crab roll.
