Like all other overworked and underpaid human beans in this city I enjoy the occasional massage. I am so happy to have found this little gem...on the way home from work none the less. I've waited 4-6 months to reward myself for massages in the past but Bamboo Forest's hour long massage is an amazing treat and affordable enough to be a weekly expense! AND they are clearly experienced in working all the areas on the body that hold a lot of tension (shoulders, neck, back, buns, feet and calves.) Definitely strong pressure...maybe some people don't like strong pressure but I certainly want those muscle crunchies in my back ironed out...and that doesn't come without enduring sensations at the threshold of pain. They are very conscious of making sure that the pressure is okay and can adjust if it's too much or too little. I'm going back next week! read more

And In response to another review, I've been going to this place for over a year, sometimes multiple times a month, and NEVER have been asked to remove my clothes! Honest to god I think I just had the worst massage of my life. I have been here once before and had a pretty good massage, so I expected a similar experience. An older lady "massaged" me this time, and it was a terrible experience (not because she's older, just want to help whoever reads this to identify the person). About 75% of the massage was just lightly rubbing me down with buckets of lotion. Seriously a disgusting amount of lotion, to the point where my hands and feet were pruney within 10 minutes. At one point she lifted my shirt, rubbed a handful of lotion on my belly, and then immediately put my shirt over the lotion (?!?!). It was such little pressure, I've had stronger massages from my 7 year old niece. There was literally 0 massage technique put into this session, she was just poking and pushing around all over the place, she'd like pinch my foot with her right hand and her left hand would just wander over to my calf and start doing useless motions there. Such a disorienting massage. Multiple times she leaned on my body with one hand or elbow and massage with the other hand, often putting painful pressure in weird places.. like my spine. At one point, there was actual butt pinching. No, not butt massage, I mean literal pinching my butt skin randomly. I can't tell if this lady was drunk, because she was massaging like a drunk person. Unfortunately this place will absolutely never get my business again. Even though my first massage was decent, I expect a business to properly screen their employees and employ a competent staff. I feel like they just picked this woman off the street and she had obviously never had any kind of formal massage training. read more

After having to battle a wall of cars to get to the right side of the road (coming here off of 25 is not an easy feat) I NEEDED a massage. It reminded me of massages I've had in Vietnam and Malaysia: you don't get your own room; rather, you are in a common area with other customers. You do not take off your clothes. The massage is therefore quite, quite firm to penetrate several layers of fabric and cloth. Did I mention that it was firm? There was some pain associated with the massage, but the therapist was very attentive and responsive when I needed him to back off with the pressure. There was a lot more reflexology and pressure-point therapy associated with my massage than I'm used to, but it was nice, nonetheless. All in all, I left feeling a little sore but much more relaxed than I had been when I entered. One thing: since you do share a room with many other customers, don't be put off by the talking, smacking swishing and other noises associated with other people in the room. It would probably be a more relaxing experience WITHOUT other people around, but what do you expect for $25.00? One note: make sure you mention you're a first time Yelper several times. I did and I was still charged $25.00 instead of $20.00, which is still a good price, so I can't *really* complain. read more

Now I know you get what you pay for, and this is a cheap massage. But this was definitely not in the least a relaxing trip. I was the only person being massaged at 8pm. About 15 minutes into my massage one of the males who works there came over and began talking with my masseuse. FOR. THE. NEXT. 45. MINUTES. And this wasn't just talking, this was laughing, yelling, carrying on. And as if that wasn't bad enough he began playing a war game on his phone, complete with bomb sounds and all. WOW what a great time. I went expecting that your get what you pay for $25 massage. but needing work and low on the $ i went. it was a little hard to find and parking is tight. when you go in it very basic. but you are escorted into this room with rows of loungers. you take off your shoes and soak your feet while you get a head massage. they move down the body to your feet. then recline to a flat position and roll over for the back work all the while keeping your clothes on. Now I'm used to being in the bare look for a massage, but this was great. I found out you can request all foot work or wherever for you time. the place was clean and the person doing the massage did not try to talk to you. something that I have found to be a problem when they get to know you. this was a s good as any high $ massage i used to get. Why oh why did it take me so many years to find this place? A hidden gem and great value. In the 1 hour massage they'll put their deliciously evil thumbs into your trigger points until your tense muscles surrender and knots melt away. For guys, wear shorts and a t shirt, for girls a tank is good so they can rub your bare shoulders. Based on the great yelp reviews, I decided to go to Bamboo Forest today. It was fabulous. I agree with all the other reviews. I felt so great after the massage. At first, it was a little awkward to be in a room with other people getting a massage but after the first 5 minutes I forgot about the other people. You can't beat the price it is only $20.00 which is crazy for a massage. I always want to get massages more often but don't due to the price; however, since I found this place I will definitely be getting massages a lot more often. I would like to amend my previous review... I went back to Bamboo Forest tonight, and had a much better experience! I think it depends on the Therapist and the time of day you go. My appointment was at 6:30 and it was for a 90-minute massage. My Therapist was "Lucy". Now, again, I must remind you that Chinese style massage is not for everyone! It is definitely not a "relaxing" massage int eh typical way a Swedish massage is. It is aggressive and fast, and a bit forceful. That said, I really like a good Chinese massage, with a good Therapist. This time, the room was quiet, the music was pleasant, and Lucy manipulated me in a way that was mostly wonderful. There were a few moments that made me cringe with her strength, but all in all, a very good massage. I would in fact, go back! read more

Three of us decided to try this place on a whim; it was clean, quiet, with soft relaxing music playing. The open rooms were great so we could all be together. The man who gave me a massage had the strongest hands; in fact, normally I would never have gone as deep tissue as he provided, but because it felt like he knew exactly where to go and what to do, I trusted him, only asking him to go less firm in certain areas once. All of my sore and tense areas were given the right amount of attention. It felt therapeutic, inclusive of all pressure points, as if he had been doing this for many years. They did a foot soak and foot/calf scrub that felt amazing, finished with a hot towel to soothe. It was definitely one of the best massages I have ever had. read more

I have had foot massages all over Asia and have been in search of something similar in the states. I found it at Bamboo Forest. This business is in a simple storefront in the middle of lots of ethnic businesses and yes, there is a bit of a language barrier but both my husband and I agreed it was a great massage by friendly, eager-to-please people in a clean space. I suspect the reviewer that said she was asked to remove ALL their clothes was the result of the language issue, as massages are given when you're fully clothed. (Maybe you can take off your clothes since you're always draped in towels but my husband and I both wore loose shorts and t-shirts and they had no problem accessing everything.) And yes, there are about 4 tables which expand to full size in the same room but the feeling is peaceful and quiet with soft music playing. And if the massage is painful for you, the universal language of "Ow" works just fine and adjustments are made. If you like Chinese Foot Massage and reflexology, this is the best deal around! Although the focus is on foot massage, you will get a massage on your neck, shoulder, head, face and back. My wife and I had a massage at the newly opened Lafayette location on Public Road. While you are sitting back on a recliner and your feet is soaking in warm water, you can expect a massage on your shoulder, neck, head and face. Afterwards, the therapist will massage your feet and leg at various pressure points. For a one hour massage, you can expect your back also massgaed using Chinese pressure techniques. The therapist was professional and courteous. It is one of the best Chinese foot massage I had outside of Asian countries. And all of that for $25-$30 for one hour. read more

Butts, surgical masks, earlobes, plastic bags, eye sockets, leather recliners: all are incorporated into this unorthodox acupressure-shiatsu-reflexology extravaganza on South Federal, the heart of Denver's Asian community. In a discreet strip just across from the city's much beloved J's Noodles, you can experience among the best therapeutic massages for a nominal fee. For those unfamiliar, Chinese and Thai massage technique, or acupressure, is rooted in acupuncture practices and are centuries old, predating scientific method. I felt nerves/tendons/muscles/bones releasing their joujou that no holistic westerner could possibly have knowledge of. The experience begins in a quiet waiting room on small Thai stools, walls swathed in the joint's namesake wallpaper. One can flip through Asian hair style magazines or People. The aforementioned is, of course, preferable. Once your time has come, the polite receptionist leads you to a darkened room with 8 or so wide leather recliners. Upon sitting, you are given a foot bath insulated with a plastic bag and are treated to an introductory head massage, complete with eyeball socket stimulation. Disarmed, neglected facial muscles really set the tempo for the best foot rub you never knew was possible. Fibers stretching, toes snapping, pressure points releasing; this is not your nail aesthetician's fledgling therapy. After the half hour foot rapture has you teetering on feeling lamentably foolish for your lack of body awareness, it's time for the furniture to shed more light on another one of the East's magical secrets: recliners that convert into a massage table! Swelled, overstuffed chairs economically reveal a face hole hidden behind a velcro pillow, provided with a paper to ease any germophobic tendencies you may share with the avian flu masked therapist. These chairs are so kicky. Less time is spent on your back, but it's compactness is punctuated with esoteric brilliance. Who knew that touching a spike in my rear would cause my head to tingle! Ah, all good things come to an end. Your taciturn therapist will abruptly announce their gratitude at the end of the massage and you are expected to get on your way. Emerging from this wonderment proves particularly difficult for me. Drool, disorientation and fumbling ensue. Bamboo Forest rarely has more than a few customers at any given time; similar businesses dot this part of town. My appreciation for this Denver neighborhood is greatly deepened with every visit. $15 buys you a half hour foot massage, 10 more dollars for the whole experience. This keeps me.... happy. read more

Bamboo Forest doesn't look like much from the outside. In the heart of Denver's Vietnamese/Chinese community on south Federal, it's next to an Asian nail salon and shares parking with an auto shop (hint: parking by the auto shop is probably your best bet.) Going inside, I was shown to a dimly lit room with a row of overstuffed easy chairs. I had an appointment, and was shown in immediately, no waiting. There was one other customer in the same room, but it wasn't distracting for me. The therapist arrived, complete with surgical mask -- definitely had a very "clinical" look. After putting my feet in a hot foot bath, my massage therapist reclined the chair and started working on my face and scalp. This was followed by a vigorous foot massage, and then I turned over and the therapist worked on my back and neck. True to traditional Asian massage, the focus was mostly on accupressure points, though with minimal stretching (which is emphasized in some types of Asian massage). The massage for me was done with mildly painful pressure -- enough so I felt it a bit of pain momentarily, but not enough that the pain endured. I've found in the past that the vigorous the massage, the better the results, so I didn't mind. The results were great! I felt much better after the hour session. Having had massage on a visits to Thailand, I can say that the techniques were similar but not identical to Thai massage, but the results were similar. I'm not familiar enough with Asian countries to know exactly the nationality of the staff at Bamboo Forest. The price, too, at $25 per hour session, is fantastic -- I've never even heard of a price that low. Those in a hurry can do a half hour for $15.00, and longer sessions are apparently possible (In Thailand, the full treatment would typically last TWO hours). This is a hard review to write because as everyone mentioned it is a great deal so why complain? This was my first time getting a massage that wasn't at a fancy spa, it was a last minute plan with my bf and I was thinking "heck why pay $100-$200 for a massage if I can get one for just $25?"...knowing the price in advance I didn't have high expectations, I knew I wouldn't be eating Godiva chocolate and enjoying a glass of wine but I certainly was not prepared for this odd experience. The people were cold, not warm and welcoming, the room was weird with my boyfriend along with another couple, I felt like I was getting smacked around more than an actual relaxing massage, but I guess this is the Asian style so if you like it rough then this is the place for you. In the beginning they have you soak your feet in water that's just sitting in a trash bag in a basket, the water was room temp not warm and relaxing, I kept wondering if they reused the same water which creeped me out. I didn't feel awful after leaving but this morning I woke up feeling worse than when I went in. Maybe I'm just a sissy but either way in my opinion I'd say this place is ok if you're a guy and want to get beaten up but definitely not the place for a girl seeking something quick and relaxing. Stay away!!! This place supposedly does reflexology but my massage could only be described as abusive and brutal! No reflexology was done! A group of 4 of us went. 2 of us walked out in serious pain. I have bruises and petechiae all over my back! I asked for a softer hand and it happened for about 30 seconds! I should have listened to my gut and walked out half way through! I visited this place while vacationing in CO with my friends. The establishment is nice and clean. The workers were not very clear about the prices, and if you don't stop them, they will go ahead and do the full body massage without explaining the cost. Make sure you know exactly why you're getting and for the price. The massage itself was wonderful. My massage was $30 and I left a $4 tip to reach a total of $34. When I got back home from my trip, I saw my bank statement and noticed Bamboo Forest charging me $50. I've called repeatedly and was told that they will look into my transaction. I was told by the owner that she would call me back as soon as she figured out the issue. She kept denying that they charged 50 and said they only showed 34 on their side. She was aggressive and rude when we spoke and has yet to call me to resolve the issue (it has almost been a week). I filed a fraud case with my bank because I apparently cannot get Bamboo Forest to fix the issue. I am disappointed to have to spend this much time to get my money back, and it's not so much about the $16, it is about making sure others know about this bad business. You have been warned! Pay with cash or check your account...I predict that I am not the first they do this to. read more

My visit to BAMBOO FOREST (DENVER) started with my first foot massage/reflexology experience in NYC last month. While walking about 100 miles around Manhattan over a couple of days in June, I started to feel the worst pain ever in my feet. I always have some minor discomfort, but that was worse than anything I had experienced before. On day 2 we ventured into China Town. "Foot Massage/Reflexology" was advertised everywhere in China Town so I finally just picked a place and hoped for the best. I was very hesitant, but my feet hurt so bad that I figured, "what have I got to lose?" I knew I would walk at least another 100 miles during the remainder of the trip. (might have exaggerated a bit on the mileage...but it felt like 100!) The foot massage/reflexology I received in China Town blew my mind...it was AMAZING!! Not only did I feel relieved of the pain at that time, my feet never hurt again for the remainder of the trip. Who knew?!! I knew at that moment that I had to find something similar when I returned home to Denver. But where??? I searched "foot massage denver" and the Bamboo Forest popped up in Yelp, along with several favorable reviews. I am proud and excited to say that I completely agree with all of the positive reviews of this business! I recommend making a reservation. I walked in today and luckily was able to get in...just barely. THE MASSAGE WAS AMAZING!!!! The other reviews on here go into detail, so I'm not going into specifics, but I recommend that you get a massage here as soon as possible!
