I always loved the food at Bamboo Gardens. They closed for a little while and reopened earlier this year so I thought I'd get takeout. I was so disappointed. The spring rolls were grease laden and not crispy. The chicken was tough in the chicken fingers. The shrimp was over cooked and tough in the Gong Bo chicken dish. Everything had a bad oil taste to it. I like the owner, she works so hard. read more

FOOD: The Chinese food here is awesome and all their portions are on the large side. Personally, I've had their egg rolls, chicken wings, boneless spareribs, crab ranggons, beef teriyaki, pork fried rice, house fried rice, orange chicken, lemon chicken, General Tso's chicken and it is all good. The food is the main reason I gave them 5 stars. SERVICE: The service is good and fast. CLEANINESS: The place is clean. ATMOSPHERE: It feels like a small Chinese family-owned operation that takes pride in what they do. The dinning area is very basic feeling, but then again it's main focus is take out not dinning in. I believe I have tried there before and felt it was bland. Due to my go-to, Chinatown, being closed sometime during COVID, I returned because I grew tired of sandwiches. As for the food. General Tso Chicken is listed as spicy on the menu. I rated as zero for spiciness. They also have an issue with crowd control. At the two sandwich places I had visited during COVID, one had no crowds to control. At the other, they made it clear when I inquired about hours, I needed to pre-order and wait outside. I drove there at the time I stated in my pre-order and had no problem socially distancing inside to pay for it with two other customers inside. At Bamboo Gardens, I pre-ordered, was told, "not busy" and it would be done in 20 minutes. I arrived about 20-30 minutes after ordering and this jerk wanted to really make sure he was next, so I verbally asserted my right to check on my order, and he was inches from me the whole wait, including shoving me. People should be served in the order of the call, not the order in line. All I wanted to do was to check my order number so I could assume that spot. Due to the elapse of time, I estimated I was either Spot 1 or Spot 2. I did get my order ahead of Mr. Pushy but did not feel good about the food or the experience and will never recommend nor return. I really hope he did not have COVID because it was more than 10 minutes exposure time to him. read more

Excellent takeout place with nice little space for eat-in customers. A limited menu for lunch specials but selection is broad enough to satisfy all and the regular menu is as full as any in the region. The ingredients were all fresh-tasting. We got the luncheon specials - chicken fingers with just the right amount of breading, the breast meat still moist and tender. The boneless ribs were delicately flavored and moist and tender. The pork strips were also delicious and very tender - 4"-diameter pork loin slices - very nice flavor. The fried rice was done to perfection with plenty of pork bits and ingredients other than rice. Now about the egg rolls - full, fresh, lots of cabbage and flavor. The "greasy" question - less than you'd expect from a food item that was deep-fried (in fresh, tasteless oil). Not the skinny, crusty, barely full wrapper of fast-food places. I'd be tempted to make a meal of them. The lo mein was sweeter than what we've had anywhere but not objectionably so (I don't care for teriyaki). We'll definitely be back - I'd like to try dining in. read more

I'm giving this five stars not because it is the most amazing Chinese food ever, but it is the best take out Chinese food I've had so far in Vermont. The places in Waterbury have been disappointing, and House of Tang in Montpelier is over-rated. It isn't gourmet, but it is good: anything fried is crispy and not greasy, the sauces have a lot of flavor, and things taste fresh. It is definitely going to be our go-to Chinese take out place. Only way it could get better is if they offered delivery! read more

The generals chicken was good, and the chicken with broccoli was OK but everything else we had was way too sweet. I have never had sweet shrimp lo mein before and I hope to never have it again. We have had Chinese food in about 40 other States and this was one of the lower ranking. read more

Try the steamed dumplings. My husband and I are addicted. This is the only place we'll go for Chinese takeout, even though we have to drive past three other restaurants to get there. Their food is less greasy, and much more flavorfull. read more

I got take out and I actually threw it away. Most chinese food is unhealthy and greasy but their spring roll was really, really greasy and the cabbage inside was in giant chunks, not shredded or appealing at all. I was really unimpressed that I had to literally throw it all away. read more

We got the cashew chicken, beef broccoli and vegetable fried rice. It was wonderful! The portions were huge- one would have been more than enough for the two of us. It was busy, but didn't take long to wait for it to go. The restaurant is small- only 4 tables- so I would recommend takeout. This is the best place to get Chinese food in central Vermont! If you don't get a lunch/dinner special and order individual items it can be pricey, but it is worth it! The rice is the absolute best, everything I've had there is always wonderful, I've never had a complaint! read more

I eat here regularly and I really love "American Style" Chinese food, but honestly this is the best I have had - even rivals some I have had from some of the best places in Boston. I really notice how well their vegetables are prepared - and I have to say that theirs are the freshest you will ever eat. One reviewer did say the spring rolls were greasy and I agree they tend to be - but WHO CARES! If that is really the ONLY item there that i don't order - they have a ton of other wonderful things to choose from. Some of my favorites are the vegetable fried rice, the lo mein is awesome and the generals chicken is great too. It might not be the best place to go to sit down and eat, as it has a micro dining area (4 or 5 tables - two of which can only seat 2 people), but with four or less in your party you can sit and enjoy it - but they mostly do take-out. They are very friendly and the prices are on par with what you would expect to pay anywhere in central Vermont, but the quality and flavor is the real reason you will go back there often and to none of the other places. Never had a real disappointment going here in over 15 years. read more
