We have gotten takeout from this place for 20+ years and it is reliably good. Fresh vegetables with crunch, good dumplings, spareribs, shrimp in garlic sauce, gen tsis chicken, green veg. It's not bad, but its not great either. Selection in these parts is lacking, so we eat where we can. However, I believe the food is fresh and you don't have to wait too long. So that's not a very bad deal especially during the lunch rush. They closed for a few days without warning and when I asked them what happened, the owner replied he need to run an errand. So I thought, "Where?, In China?"~ when they came back suddenly their phones were working again??? Sheesh! That's weird, to say the least! But I still ate there, and paid too much for my lunch! Doesnt look like much, but believe me when I say this place has the best Chinese around!! And for great prices. The General Tsao's is too die for, just like everything else on the menu. They are not always good about answering the phone if you want to place an order, but other than that this Chinese restaurant is great. Weird versions of classics. Spring rolls have no filling, shrimp toasts are grease triangles reeking of fish and contain no shrimp, hot and sour has all kinds of extra veggies and not sure if it's pork or chicken. The staff at this restaurant works extremely hard and the food is like a taste of home. There are so many choices, like any Chinese place, but I can't pass up General Tso's Chicken. The hot & sour soup is not my favorite, at least for my taste. If you like noodles, try the Chow Fun. read more

If you are looking for deep fried food you can go anywhere, but China Town has the best stir fried and steamed dishes/sauces in the area (lets face it we're not in San Fransisco, so don't expect to be blown away!). Eh, not terrible, but this place was decent. It was a little more expensive than I expected, and the fried rice was a dark brown color. I got a combination special, and the Chow Mein was loaded with onions and celery. It also had some kind of mystery vegetable that I couldn't identify - possibly slivers of broccoli stem, although it was sliced up in a weird way and tasted vaguely like water chestnut. Egg rolls weren't too bad, but you can tell they are just mass-produced frozen egg rolls that just came out of the deep fryer. read more

This is the area's best Chinese take-out. The food is delicious and consistent. We have tried nearly every dish and have never been let down once. Bamboo Garden and House of Tang are nearby rivals, but as far as take-out is concerned this place wins hands down. read more

I have been going to this restaurant for the last 25 years. I always loved the food, but have stopped going because the food quality has gone way downhill. Everything is greasy ...ugh. I have actuall watched one of the daughters put cold lard the fryer when food was already in it. This practice is just disgusting and now I know why my chicken fingers have been nothing but grease. And although I believe the place is clean, I know many people think it is sketchy and won't go in because it looks kind of gross. A new floor and paint would do wonders. What happened?? This used to be my favorite place for Chinese takeout, but no longer! The last year or so has seen some serious changes at Chinatown Restaurant in Barre. The price have gone up and the quality of the food and portion sizes have gone down. The lo mein was drowning in grease and had very little chicken at all in it and the cashes chicken tasted like the vegetables were left over from last week and had been soaking in ammonia. I am so disappointed as the food here used to be so good. Now it's the very worst of all the Asian restaurants in the Barre Montpelier area. Blech! read more

I just moved into town and decided to try them out. Never again the food was super greasy and literally had a grease type taste to it.
