Had chicken and broccoli with fried rice and a order of mango chili wings. The wings were great. Just wish they would of fried them a lily toe harder before they dredged them in the sauce. Say it ain't so? That's exactly what I said when I opened up my order of house special fried rice that I ordered on my way home. The customer service was on point but the food was completely disappointing. They used to be known for their great Guyanese style Chinese food especially their fried rice. So you can only imagine my despair when I cleared off the cabbage garnish to find clumpy overcooked rice tossed in soy sauce. There was a generous amount of meats but that didn't make up for the overall lack of a flavor. In hopes of a taste of Guyana cuisine following a full morning of kayaking, with a friend, we replenished our stomachs for Curry Goat at $9.99. Time is of essence as the street parking Muni Meter restricted our dinning in experience for half hour. Disappointingly, service is extremely dismissive to our party and the lack of diet soda for my friend's liquid revelry preference. Personally, I do not intake soda of any genre since my teenage years, thus we both opt for water. I wanted to explore Caribbean cuisine as living in New York City entails a diversity of ethnic cultures. The Curry Goat was not entirely spawn hot on the spice index temperature. The name Bamboo Garden imbued a Chinese flair in Guyanese cuisine. First impression is a lasting impression... we were not greeted by a hostess upon our arrival to be seated at a table. When requesting for the check, no wait staff were in plain sight ergo we punted our physical presence at the cashier station for payment. Our bill was incorrectly plow at us blindly totaling $25.00 which we both vocally disputed this utter dismay charge. According to the takeout menu Curry Goat is $8.99 but not, so this case as the dinning in menu is priced excessively higher. We were ultimately given a second incorrect bill for Curry Chicken at $9.99 despite of consuming Curry GOAT, nevertheless it is the same price. The cashier is very inexperienced with operating the register who sneak to snake a scowl a callous rude face. The manager callously stated the takeout menu is priced "differently" aka lower as opposed to excessively higher prices for dinning in. All in all given our party of two's billing debacle, by choice, we refused to leave a gratuity of any amount. Bamboo Garden staff never made amends for this billing transgression debacle. We were ready to abate without further ado. No amount of food can ever be measured by QUALITY of customer service in the restaurant hospitality business!! EEK! read more

As good as it gets for great Guyanese Chinese Food. It's so nostalgic, it tastes just as good as the Chinese food i remember eating as a child back in Guyana. The fried chicken, fried rice and chow mein is where its at! Everything well seasoned and laced with flavor. The food in this place was disgusting.... the fish was very very underseasoned.... not even the basics of salt and pepper.. my mom ordered steam fish and the fish smelled and rotten.... everything we ordered lack seasoning as a matter of fact. I normally visit the Bamboo Garden Queens location, but went to the Bklyn location since I was in the area for an appointment. Customer service does not seems to be an importance at many West Indian restaurants. I'm West Indian myself and used to this "indifferent" attitude that many display, kind of like "barely answer your questions" or "answer in a way like you're bothering them even though you're patroning their establishment" type of way. In any case, as long as the food is good, I try to put MEH attitudes to the side. As I said before, at the Queens location, I normally order chow mein and it's always super delicious, full of flavor and vegetables. I ordered 2 dinners here, 1 chow mein and 1 Lo mein. The chow mein dinner was fine, but the lo mein dinner came with just cabbage, no other vegetables. Basically noodles fried up with some cabbage and served. I mean, what's wrong with veggies? I wasn't until I got home that I realized I receives a veggie-less dish, or else I would've simply asked to sprinkle some veggies on top. All in all, the food tasted okay. I think there's lots of room to improve on a customer service and food experience to make this a great destination in Canarsie-a neighborhood that's still lacking any upscale Caribbean restaurant last. You're not a bad place BG, but cutting corners doesn't get new or more customers. Refocus your goals, menu and make yourself a premier Caribbean spot in Canarsie. Call me for advice! read more

Now it seems like I am totally stuck in the Caribbean realm. I blame this mostly on the fact that "mama ain't making dem again". So it forces me to patrol the streets in search of her delicious memories. Bamboo Garden is a Guyanese restaurant, which shocked me to bits because the food is edible. I have come across many Guyanese dishes and for some reason, they are light on salt & flavor (Ital at it's best), however I am raving about the Broccoli-n-Garlic sauce. I believe the Asians can learn from this recipe. The flavor is a bit sweet, but let's just say that I have a thing for the sweeter things in life. Just note that the chef plays a major role, and I have had many disappointing dishes from here as well (as a pasta lover, they tend to overcook the pasta into a mush for the lo mein/chow mein), but never the Broccoli-n-Garlic sauce! As a budding chef/critic....I enjoy my job! P.S. Try the Dhal Puri (Roti skin)....it melts in your mouth. read more

Food is good but it doesn't taste as good as i remember it being years ago. I had the house special fried rice. I wish the chicken was cooked a tab bit more but i don't have any complaints. I think i will try something else next time. The wait time for the food was about 15-20 when i went which wasn't bad at all. 2.5 Stars. Believe it or not, this used to be a nice place 15 years ago. However, this place has gone severely down hill. Last time I sat down to eat here, some random dude was trying to sell bootleg DVDs...inside the restaurant...really? Recently, I was gifted a shrimp and broccoli with rice from a relative and it was surprisingly tasty. The broccoli had a decent crunch and the sauce was not overly flavored well. I love their mixed fry rice. Their steamed vegetables is also great. The chicken that comes with the mixed fry rice is delicious. Besides that, the rest of the food isn't that great. Some of their pastries are OK. A lot of what they sell reminds me of being at home in Guyana and I guess that's the only reason why I deal with this place. Consistently inconsistent!! Most recent I ordered two of the same thing and mine was different from my husband's. We had the chicken with garlic sauce with rice and peas. First, the rice wasn't the normal peas. It was a red bean and a finer rice. On top of the the rice was burnt as we had chunks of hard rice. Then the breading was falling off the chicken. His order had peppers and onions as it should and mine had broccoli and not one pepper or onion. I really wish they would be consistent because when they are good they're good. read more

I was mad at myself for not coming here sooner. Also, the portion was so much it took me 2 days to finish it. My favorite that I always get is the BBQ chicken fried rice with no egg it's a lot of food for under $10 it doesn't get better . The Jumbo Shrimp with Garlic Sauce never lets me down. Their fresh vegetables like broccoli and bora are always crunchy, never mushy. Their sauces are just right. An all-around great restaurant for Guyanese cuisine, either dining in or take out. And the prices are quite reasonable. read more

This use to be a good place to eat for me, but not anymore. As of late, everything tastes salty. I mean, not oops this part tastes salty, I mean the entire thing. I bought a mixed fried rice because that was my favorite, but I had to throw it out. The Lo-mein, my god, don't even try it. Talk about OIL. I would never feed my kids that ever. There is another place located on Flatbush and Lenox avenue. Their food is much better there. Do your self a favor and try both and you will never go back to Bamboo Garden. Interestingly enough, the place on flatbush name is Bamboo Express. But my favorite Guyanese Chinese food comes from Kaieteur Resturant in Queens. I went there because everyone keeps talking about it. I collected the food and went into my car. I was hungry so I decided to talk a little bite. Lol, I ate all the damn food out in the car and had to go back and order another mixed fried rice for lunch the other day. I wish they were closer. Visited and dined in here for the first time yesterday (11/17/2015). The decor was super cheesy and outdated, but for someone who was looking for some authentic Guyanese-Chinese food in a restaurant that was reminiscent of my childhood, it was perfect! My friend and I ordered the house special fried rice and house special chowmein. I'm not a fan of chowmein but he said it was delish. My house special fried rice was divine, the portions were so large I only finished half of mine and my friend finished all of his. We got Mauby and Sorrel drinks too, the sorrel was good but the mauby was mostly bitter. We also got cassava pone, polourie, pine tarts and sponge cake to go. All in all, it was a great experience, our waitress was really nice and the service was superb, would definitely recommend this place if you're looking for some good old-fashioned Guyanese-Chinese food! read more

But then when things I ordered weren't available they simply replaced it with what they wanted without asking my consent or offering a refund. Had the curry shrimp, DISGUSTING! Curry was super burnt. This Bamboo garden may be the worst one I've been to yet. Their service was extremely slow. Their air conditioner was not working and the central air made no difference in the restaurant. Also what disgusted me most is the the dishes and glasses weren't clean. The one redeeming quality was that the food is good.
