A local friend n I went here on Saturday Morning around 12-1a and they were open I love Caribbean food and when walking in, the food smell hit you right from thE door. Inside is small and narrow so no seating. They sell different drinks from Caribbean to American. Prices are reasonable as they sell either medium or large plates. They have a hot bar with Macaroni Pie, stew chicken, jerk, curry shrimp, rice and peas, noodles, cabbage to name a few. I had the curry shrimp with Macaroni pie and cabbage and it was amazing! Just like the oxymoron that is the namesake- this spot is a well oiled machine that delivers delicious soul food. You just don't go wrong with a joint that is 24/7(?!) with a kitchen area 3x the size of the order counter. While they can only fit about 5 patrons at a time the counter is end to end filled with meats, carbs, veggies and shrimp. To the right wall, prices are afixed to the platters taped to the wall. I opted for oxtail, rice & peas and cabbage. And small jerk chicken with Rasta pasta. Legitimately flavorful; the oxtail was fatty, fall off bone sweetly stewed over some of the best rice and peas. They have 3 kinds of pasta, two kinds of rice, 2-3 veggie varieties, and the largest variety of drinks I've ever seen at a restaurant to be honest. They have 4 different kinds of Shrimp, curried, jerked (grilled) sautéed (scampi) and fried (comes with tartar sauce if you ask) they also have different seafood, from whole fried porgy and Escovich to baked salmon and sometimes even lobster. Ali's Roti Shop across the street has far superior rice & peas, but the rice & peas at Royal Cuisine is perfectly fine to put some oxtail on, especially with lots of gravy. In fact, even if you're not getting oxtail, ask for oxtail gravy on your rice & peas. You won't be sorry. The vegetables are bland and they're stingy with their plantains. This is a place to go for meat, meat, and more meat. Or fish--I haven't had the fried fish but my partner says it's pretty good. The owner and the counter staff are super friendly, which is amazing given some of the rude comments I've heard customers make to them. East Crown Heights doesn't have a lot of dining options open on Sundays. So while foraging for dinner, I saw a line at the counter here and got in it. I figured most people probably know more than me, so might as well learn. And I was happy I did. Not only were they open for Sunday dinner, but they were cooking chicken and other things fresh. They had a steam table, as most fast casual places around here do, and it was clean and well-stocked. I was also really impressed by the number of seafood dishes they had... snapper, salmon, shrimp, king fish and more. Pretty impressive. Portion sizes were also very good. I got jerk chicken, as it seemed to be the thing to get, and a large was indeed large. The jerk shrimp was good too. Both were served with a couple of pieces of bread to help soak up the juices. The rice was plump; a little bit dry, but still good. The veggies were a little bit on the bland side, but passable. It's also kind of a crapshoot in in the neighborhood as to menu pricing. Not all places have a menu or prices listed, which makes one wonder if regulars get a discount. But RCYF does, which is appreciated. OVER PRICED GRADE PENDING HORRIBLE FOOD Should of just gotten the jerk chicken.... Where do I begin: There grade is pending which is a bad sign to begin with. $12 for salmon meal, which comes with rice and peas and steamed veggies, I decided to substitute the rice and peas and veggies and opt for low mein instead at a $2 charge. Salmon- was juicy but caked with some unrecognizable dry rub seasoning mix that tasted like weird jerk/ black pepper mix. Very overwhelming. Low mein- noodles were stuck together and clammy with a bunch of hard dry burnt ones in between with carrots cut into huge crunchy slices and Burnt mushrooms scattered in the mix. WORST LOW MEIN IVE HAD IN 30 YEARS OF LIFE!! (And I've had and cooked plenty) Fried chicken wings and macaroni pie for $12 all I can say is yuck yuck and yuck!!! Wings- dry as a bone!! No flavor Macaroni pie - covered in black pepper wtf!!! I will never go to the place if they pay me.
