Libby was fabulous! My daughter got her virgin hair bleached sort of at a salon in Minnesota the day before we flew to Orlando. It was streaked orange! Libby got us in the day we landed and fixed the color beautifully! It's perfect! She explained what went wrong with the other stylist and what she needs to do to keep it blonde. I used to recommend bamboo to everyone. Then covid and the election happened and it's literally impossible to sit in a chair with Libby and not have your ear talked off about Trump, the pandemic, and the effectiveness of vaccines. Normally it's whatever I'll just tune it out but this was the 4th or 5th visit where that's her only choice of topic and this one went as far as "have you got the vaccine, because your hair is thinning and I hear that's a side effect" At this point it's just annoying and the quality of haircuts have dropped. Please, trust me on this: I moved to Horizon West five years ago, and have been struggling to find a stylist that I could bond with, a stylist I trust, and most of all a stylist that does a good job. Rude and unhelpful. Clearly not a salon that enjoys new business as called for a referral and literally had a gentleman (Owner / Manager) interrupt me three times saying not interested before I even got to the end of my sentence. Perhaps got them on a bad day, but it's only the beginning of the week so it doesn't bode well. Given that there's hundreds of other salons in the area, I would try one of those. NOTE: Ownership has posted a "response" to the review that is not accurate and does not address the primary note: lack of warmth or basic kindness. The gentleman literally cut me off before I finished what I was saying or before I could ask any questions. While it may be the policy of the salon to not do "outside services" - perfectly fine - rudeness and lack of warmth is never called for or necessary. The exact same information could've been conveyed pleasantly and with respect. That ownership is not caring about this just goes to show what I've already stated - reputation and warmth do appear not to be a priority. Why not just treat a new caller - a referred caller! - kindly... whether or not you offer a particular service? read more

I have lived here in Orlando for over 24 years !! On average I get a haircut (at the very least ) every 3 months..... so that's 96 haircuts I have had since living here - So....what is my point ? Well, out of the 96 haircuts - (and trust me I've tried SO MANY Places) - Bamboo salon has done my last 20 haircuts !!! Libby is so EXTREMELY talented and ALWAYS knocks it out of the park when it comes to care and detail! I have never felt more welcomed and Understood ! I just took my sister here yesterday for a hair cut, and I left feeling jealous that I didn't have time to get my hair cut there. Instead, I had to wait for a delayed flight home... I called at about 10:30 on a Monday morning, and Libby had the availability to see my sister right away. She assessed my sister's face shape and hair type and then asked my sister what she is going for. My sister was complaining about too much dead length, not enough movement in her hair, and the desire to get side-swept bangs. Libby looked at where my sister was parting her hair and brought the side-swept bangs just outside of that part to ensure that the bangs complimented my sister's face shape. She also educated the both of us on how to take care of our hair, what products to use, and so forth. She was very knowledgeable and in a technical way, which I could appreciate. She talked about the importance of a hair stylist understanding: - geometry (especially for cuts), - chemistry (for coloring, perming, those with health concerns), - electrical (for heat-products), - and color (the primary, secondary, and tertiary colors). She was very friendly and chatted with my sister about the Disney College Program; I guess she cuts for a lot of entertainment talent and other students. So for those of you who love bangs-for-the-buck (sorry for the pun): - DCP members get 10% off all the time - $5 off for each referral you send to her - 20% off your first cut when you check in via Yelp. $40 for a women's shampoo, cut, and style, I really could not argue. Let me start out by saying that I am a natural Dark brunette and have tried most of my life to become as close to a platinum blonde as possible without frying my hair. I have literally tried dozens of salons who have either killed my hair, hair-shamed me, or told me it's impossible. Libby is the ONLY one who has ever truly taken the time to listen to me, explain my options, and actually get me to be platinum. Every time I leave the salon I'm in love with my hair. I've even been stopped by strangers and asked who does my color and I'm always happy to rave about Libby and the Bamboo salon. I moved to Florida from NJ and it took me forever to find a salon with actual reasonable prices, good availability for those of us who work long hours, and just an overall great experience. Libby is the best-super personable and optimistic. You can tell hair is her passion and she's great at it. I actually hired Libby to do my wedding hair and have had two bridesmaids ask how much it would be to fly her to NJ for their weddings. All my friends, co-workers, and Florida family now go here. I made an appointment at Ulta 6 weeks ago through the Ulta App. When I arrived they could not find my appointment! Finally they realized that the stylist no longer worked there and they claimed they had no way of knowing had appointments.... I took iff work for this appointment. They offered another appointment two weeks away! Now ladies you know that's unacceptable. I called Bamboo salon never thinking they would have a way to fit me in on a Saturday. Libby offered me a appointment in an hour. When I arrived I immediately was made to feel comfortable. The couch in the waiting area was very comfortable and I almost fell asleep. Lol . Not only are my highlights and cut perfect she also waxed my eyebrows to perfection. The prices are very reasonable. I also love her playlist. Libby, you have a customer for life! It's harsh that I lost $100 on a faulty product during this difficult time. Additionally - I contact the company and they sent me a sample of what it should smell like and that's what I wanted. They indicated the product I purchased was shipped over a year ago and to activate the smell I could run under warm water for 15-20 minutes and I've done this with no success. I understand no returns - but sometimes you need to do the right thing for the customer. read more

I was visiting from out of town and chose Bamboo Salon only because it was close to where I was staying, but I got really lucky with this place! I'd never had my hair colored professionally before so Libby took the time to explain the process and help me pick a color and then worked super quickly. Both she and her husband were super sweet and friendly and made me feel welcome, and in the end my hair looked awesome, why I waited so long to dye my hair I don't know. Yesterday (8/31) I went into Bamboo Salon with the intention of getting my balayage retouched. I was initially very happy with the result until I took a closer look when I got home. I noticed that there were large dark sections that looked banded, and the top was very streaky. She used a "balayage comb" which I have never heard of, but trusted her judgement because she said she has 30 years of color experience. When I got home and realized how streaked it was, I texted the hair stylist, Libby, who is also the Salon Owner. I told her of my concerns and asked if I could come into the Salon again for her to take a second look at my hair. She told me to get it re-done in 3 months, and then switched and told me to get it re-done in 2 months. She then told me additional highlights (which I didn't want) would come at an additional cost. At this point I had not asked for anything in addition to the services I had already received, I had only asked if I would be able to go in and have her take a second look to see if she sees what I see. I responded politely, and then she blocked my number so I could no longer contact her. I went in today to talk to her since I could no longer text her, and she would only talk to me as she was working on another client. She kept repeating everything several times, and would at points ask her client for her opinion on the issues we were discussing (which is incredibly unprofessional). I left in tears because she was not listening to me at all. She kept saying she explained to me 10 times that I should get a gloss, but that was 100% untrue. We talked about a gloss two times during my visit yesterday and she told me that it would even the color out and I would not have as much dimension, which is why I chose to forgo the gloss. This entire experience would have been avoided if she has simply said "yes come in and we can talk" when I initially texted her. I may have had to pay for a gloss or tone, and would have been fine with it but at this point do not feel the need to spend an additional amount on her services when I already paid $210 for a color service that I am not remotely happy with, and one that she is not willing to even take a look at and fix. I am surprised her current clients still go to her when they see how she treats people who have even the slightest concern about the outcome of their hair. I'm not sure of the response she will give this post, but I know she will. I have tried to only write factual things in this post, so that everything I say is completely accurate and not opinion based, but I'm sure she'll try to twist my experience around into something else. Edit: After I went back to Bamboo Salon today, I went to Salon Dulay and spoke to Amanda K (a senior stylist at the salon), who agreed with me that "that's not balayage, those are highlights." I think the ladies here are very nice and talented. However, if you're looking for something a little out of the box, this is not the place to go. I called to schedule an appointment and explained that I wanted my natural brown hair on top faded into a bright purple - kind of the "ombre" look that's hot right now. I explained that the last time I had died my hair was over three months ago, and that it was a "natural box" dye, that had definitely washed out. So essentially I was back to my natural hair. She seemed very reluctant over the phone, but said to come in and she'd take a look. When I came in, the first 10-15 minutes were spent listening to the two ladies trying everything to come up with reasons to NOT do this. I made the mistake of saying that I work for Disney, and it really scared them. Let me explain: I do not work "on-stage" at Disney, and I work for a part of the company that does not follow the standard Disney look. In fact, I had discussed my new hair idea with my boss, and he was fine with it, which I told them!!. Because this salon is so close to Disney, it's obvious they are used to having to stay within the "Disney look" guidelines. This should have been a red flag to me... and I would have saved a lot of money if I had followed my gut and walked out of there. I wanted to believe that this would go well, so I went ahead with it. It took 3 hours. By the end of it... It just looked... Weird. There were large sections of my hair that hadn't even been bleached. The purple wasn't purple. It was mostly deep blue and grey, and was very blotchy. I left thinking, "Maybe it's just the lighting here." (I don't know why I wanted to believe in this salon so bad! I've had this color done before in Savannah and Atlanta, and it was never a problem.) It just kind of seems like they don't have enough practice with this kind of hair, and I wish they had been honest about that. I came home and looked at the $140 bad hair color, and was so disappointed. I decided to go to Sally Beauty Supply. Let me tell you. With the help of my boyfriend and $24 (powder bleach and Manic Panic color), I was able to do it myself at home, and it looks AWESOME. I learned my lesson for "different" hair in Orlando: either do it yourself, or go to a more artsy part of town, or maybe even a different city. read more

Most recently I was working in Manhattan - a haircut like this would easily be about $150 there. Here? Less than $40. I walked in on a whim - I've known for awhile that I needed a haircut but was putting it off since I don't have a go-to place. I asked yelp for suggestions - thank goodness I did. I called this afternoon to see if I could come in after work - not a problem. I sit down in the chair and actually consult the stylist. I'm indecisive but have a general idea what I want. I showed Libby some pictures of what I was looking for (and more importantly, not looking for) and I felt it was a really rushed consultation...she started mixing color before we were even finished discussing. I wanted to understand what she would be doing to my hair but instead of answering my questions she accused me of not being prepared. I probably should have trusted my gut and left but sadly I did not. When she was finished I definitely did not care for what she did as it was exactly how I told her I didn't want it. When I told her I didn't like it she immediately started laughing and said "you still have to pay for it". I wish she instead had asked how she could help fix it. It seemed like a very aggressive reaction on her part and makes me wonder if she has a lot of people not like their hair...? She made me pay additional for her to apply a treatment to fix the color (it still didn't turn out like we discussed). She seemed extremely concerned that I wouldn't pay because she loudly told her husband Rick "be ready". At that point I felt incredibly uncomfortable that he would do something to me or my mother who was with me. I left after my hair was rinsed. read more
