Absolutely love this place--the food is always incredibly fresh and consistently delicious. It's hands down my favorite Chinese food in Greenwich. Everything I've ordered has been amazing, and I honestly don't understand how the rating is so low. The service is super fast, and while I usually do takeout, the inside looks very clean and well kept. The General Tso's chicken is outstanding, and I also love the lo mein. Unlike so many other Chinese spots in Greenwich, the food here isn't greasy at all, which makes such a difference. I can't recommend this place enough--I'm constantly telling everyone about it. And if you were a fan of Oriental Gourmet in Old Greenwich, this is the closest Chinese food I've found to them. read more

My family has been to Bambou a few times, and we always enjoy our visits! When the weather's nice, the outdoor patio seating is especially pleasant. Over past visits, I've ordered the mango & jicama salad, mixed greens salad, seaweed salad, satay chicken, salmon avocado roll, and yellowtail scallion roll, and have also shared the wonton soup, spicy scallop roll, and Philadelphia roll. The mango & jicama salad is light and refreshing, the seaweed salad is standard, but I prefer the mixed greens salad -- it feels a bit more substantial and includes jicama, tomatoes, carrots, and a tasty peanut dressing. The satay chicken was solid and true to its name, though a bit oily for my taste. The wonton soup had a nice balance of filling to wrapper and was comforting. Both the salmon avocado roll and yellowtail scallion roll were fresh with a good fish-to-rice ratio. The yellowtail scallion roll wasn't rolled tightly enough, so it fell apart a little, but it still tasted great. The spicy scallop roll came mixed, which isn't my personal preference, and the Philadelphia roll was about what you'd expect. The sushi is always very fresh and delish, they must have experienced and well-qualified Sushi chefs working their kitchen. It's a very nice location away from the hustle and bustle of downtown, The people are always very nice and friendly. There is also a spacious patio outside for dining which is nicely decorated along with the indoor dining area. The one thing they can improve is that the beer glasses often smell like fish... Set at a renovated old Mill, this restaurant is a surprising and authentic find. If you get a table outside, you can get a view of the review that runs through. Otherwise, the view and experience outside is that of the Mill's architecture and brick. I was really overwhelmed by the menu, and tried a variety of items. Among them, a salad, the sambal entree (comes with a small portion of white rice) and the singaporean noodles. The mochi is a great dish to share. Usually when I see extensive menus with varying cuisines, I question the quality. I was surprised that everything - from the Japanese to the Singaporean - was delicious and met my standards. I did not love the beef satay - meat was slightly overcooked and the sauce wasn't the thick peanut sauce I'm used to. The service, especially towards the end of the night as they are closing is the reason I knocked one star down. It's not a high attentive quality, and I had to ask a lot of clarifying questions (especially about their specials). They were friendly though. Two years since my last review-- and even with Covid, nothing has changed except that the outdoor seating is now covered and heated... Bambou remains our favorite restaurant in Greenwich, and when we were here last night, all five of us were trading bites and delights until we were so stuffed we could barely make it home! The Halloween Roll is back, and we highly recommend the Eggplant and Shrimp in garlic sauce, the beef satay and-- of course-- the "Mom Rules Roll." A new favorite last night (in addition to fried shrimp gyoza dumplings, our constant favorite of the Blue Crab Avocado appetizer, the crab rangoon, the Salmon Samba, etc etc) was the special appetizer of spicy tuna on wasabi wheat crackers. Wow! Sooo good! Honestly, even the kids were all asking if we can get back again before the visit is over, and we're only here this time for three days! My first time at Bambou. All I can say is "it's about time!" The food was truly delicious and as good or better than comparable restaurants in nyc. I ordered the "Miso Chilean Seabass with sautéed bok choy and jicama, shitake mushroom with yuzu miso glazed" and it was excellent. Priced at 26$ plus tax, the portion size was a good value. Doubt I could make it at home for the same price. The sauce was placed in a small container on the side, which was great, so you could tailor it to your taste or omit it entirely. While the sushi and the rest of the meals my family ordered for takeout/pickup on 8/9/20 all tasted great, I believe I got food poisoning from the sushi. I was the only one in my family to eat sushi, and I have been suffering with extreme gastrointestinal sickness, with body aches, headache, and a low grade fever included. I did not eat anything before or after that likely would have caused this. I had an eel avocado roll and Mexican roll (spicy tuna) I am updating my review about a week later now as I am positive for Campylobacter bacteria after suffering from horrible diarrhea, pain, and fever for days. Going out to dinner is supposed to be a little treat. Relaxing, being served food you might not make at home. Being pampered a bit. Well our dinner at Bamboo was anything but. We were seated quickly and the waitress promptly took our drink order. We asked for water and after they brought that, she took our order. Then things started going wrong. They brought my wife's appetizer before we even got our drinks. When she brought the drinks, my "martini with an olive" had no olive. No garnish at all. Odd. Then they brought my wife's dinner salad. After a while they brought my entree, seemingly forgetting about the appetizer I ordered. The food was good and after we finished they cleared the plates. Then they forgot about us. I even started a timer because it was taking so long. No one checked on us for the next 28 minutes! We had no water and no drinks all that time. It was only when my wife stopped another waitress and asked for the bill, that they acknowledged us. Of course, the phantom appetizer was on the bill. When I pointed out that and complained about being forgotten, I got lots of apologies and they comped the appetizer BUT I'll not be going back. There is another Excellent sushi restaurant recently opened in Greenwich which will get my future patronage. read more

Folks, the food here is good, and the presentation is very pretty... BUT: The service is almost comedically bad. Like, Dane Cook in Waiting bad. I will preface this by saying, I've only been to the place one time, but I'm not coming back to double check. We arrived late, but not particularly late... We arrived around an hour and a half before they close, at 830ish. There were only a few other diners there, but the staff was visibly rushed and stressed; unless someone had just been murdered in the back and they were trying to figure out what to do with the body, it felt like an overreaction. My entree came out around 10 minutes before my partner's, which is a tiny miss we both didn't pay much attention to... We enjoyed the meal and when we were asked whether we wanted dessert, around 15 minutes before the location closed, we agreed. 15 minutes after that, we had to grab the waiter while he was sweeping to ask him if the kitchen had closed, and whether we could still get that dessert menu we'd asked for; when he finally brought it, we ordered dessert immediately and asked for the check to come out with it. I've worked food service, and I don't mind some idiosyncrasies. The brandy they brought with dessert was brought in a mug. A FULL mug... I'm not complaining about extra liquor, but who brings someone a MUG of brandy unless we're pirates and you're about to amputate my leg after a sea battle? That said, when the dessert finally arrived (HALF AN HOUR AFTER THE PLACE CLOSED), it was because we asked for it to be removed from the check so we could please just pay and leave. The tiramisu was, for some mad reason, garnished with cherry tomatoes. It was also frozen solid, like ice-crystal-crunch, arctic-winter, yeti-delight frozen. The other dessert was something entirely different than what we ordered and, while beautiful looking, also removed from a freezer with the haste of after thought. Jesus folks, if you want to close down early, tell me the kitchen is closed and don't offer me dessert! This was uncomfortable as anything, and we both just wanted to leave. To the couple who was still there after we'd left: we're sending help. Hang in there, a SWAT team and a hostage negotiator are on the way. We'll get you out eventually. read more

This place always messes up take out orders. It's incredible how they get to many things wrong. Ask for a roll with the seaweed on the outside and it's 50/50 whether it will be that way. Ask for extra ginger dressing and you'll get one tiny cup. Plus, they sometimes forget part of the order. Management: if you're reading this- get it together already. read more

The sushi was very fresh!! This was my first time at Bambou and I found the staff to be very friendly and the food to be delicious. My boyfriend and I ordered the Tuna Tortilla Pizza for appetizer. We then shared a California Roll, Salmon Avocado Roll, Greenwich Roll, and Mexican Roll. Everything was great, the fish was fresh and the rolls were nicely rolled with the perfect amount of rice. I hosted a business dinner for a group of 7. The sushi is delicious and fresh and presented beautifully... we had the tuna and crab meat "Pizza" - Yum! The pad thai was great... and our favorite roll was the Mom Roll. The restaurant was not crowded on a Wed night... we asked for a Manhattan cocktail and they had no idea what it was or how to make it and brouht each ingredient separately and we were left to mix it ourselves at the table! So I came in today for lunch and order 2 sushi rolls went my order arrived there was a hair on top of my sushi..!!! As soon as I realized I called the waitress and told her ! This is my first Yelp review. First, the food was incredible. We ordered mango tofu, eggplant in garlic sauce, and vegetable udon noodles. Everything was delicious and beautifully presented. They put a lot of mango, eggplant, and vegetables in the noodles (nothing was cheaply done). Second, the ambience and wait staff were amazing. Marvin was particularly kind and went out of his way to accommodate our group. Everyone was so sweet and explained what was vegan and what wasn't. And they actually understand veganism (no fish sauce, no oyster sauce as well), which was great! Wonderful place and I don't know if Marvin is the owner, but either way, he should get a huge bonus for his delicious food and hospitality!! Update: on the second night, we ordered food in again from this place. While it is on the expensive side, one dish (about $14) is far more than enough to feed two people. It fed three of us, but we were not that hungry. And it is still delicious! The delivery guy was also extremely kind, as is par for this place. We tried black bean tofu and that was also good. Ordering takeout was sort of difficult to give and confirm details, however the driver was efficient and confirming address and drop off timing. The food was fresh- glazed salmon with assorted veggies to sub out rice/starch. The extra veggies were delicious and perfectly steamed and seasoned. The sashimi tuna and avocado pizza was deliciously flavorful and spicy. I think the crust could have been better by using a wonton crispy round and not a thin crust dough (texture becomes too chewy) but still had great flavor! The price for all (including tip) was $50. I tend to be suspicious of restaurants that offer Chinese, Japanese, and Thai food all under one roof, but Bambou is proof that Asian fusion restaurants can be delicious! For appetizers I tried a couple different types of gyoza as well as the calamari and fried vegetable spring rolls. Everything was delicious! The gyoza were really light. The seven spiced calamari with two dipping sauces was so addicting, crispy, and unique! Move over, Mediterranean-style calamari! I ordered the mango and jicama salad ($12) and an avocado roll ($5). The salad was really fresh and came with an awesome citrus dressing on the side. I think it was lemon juice, orange juice, and rice wine vinegar--no oil, which is just what I wanted for a refreshing meal. The avocado roll came with 6 pieces and was packed with ripe avocado, very little rice. I'm not sure how the sushi with actual fish stacks up, but judging by the fact that there were 5 sushi chefs working at dinner, it's pretty good. The noodle dishes smelled delicious as well. Our waitress was super friendly and accommodating. The food took some time to come out, but you can just fill up on appetizers in the mean time :) It was so nice to sit out on the patio and enjoy the beautiful scenery and delicious fresh food. I don't know how this place had good reviews. There was nothing good about it except the edamame and that's not very hard to not screw up. We had to wait an hour for the worst sushi roll I have ever had. I paid $15 for a roll that was pretty much all asparagus with a tiny bit of salmon, it was supposed to be one of their "special" rolls but it was basically just paying double for the salmon asparagus roll. I came here to order a simple pad Thai dish , and was told it was 'too hot' in the kitchen , and the fan isn't working, so they were unable to make that dish. This was applied to half of the menu. Bambou was okay. There are not a ton of sushi places in Greenwich, so we do not have much to compare themselves to locally. Everything about the food and the decor is nice. But nothing really stood out. We sampled several of the special rolls and several appetizers. As I said before, it was good but not great/creative enough to justify about $15 per roll....basically it boils down to the idea that it wasn't a memorable meal in a positive or negative way. If you live in Greenwich and don't mind overpaying for food by about 20 to 40% then go to Bambou, but there is probably a nearby place in Fairfield or Westchester county that is superior for the same price...or just as good but with more bang for your buck. read more
