There are two sections, one for hibachi style, and one for sushi and other dishes. I had the bento box, which, preceded by a miso soup, included grilled chicken, tempura, sushi, shumai, sashimi, ginger, wasabi, steamed vegetables and a salad. My wife had the hibachi sirloin steak. The chef, who happened to be from Puebla, Mexico, tried his best to entertain us and the other diners, a mom and her little daughter. We were the first diners to arrive, but before too long, the place became very busy and noisy. Even so, we liked the ambiance, and the cuisine didn't disappoint. I've never been in the restaurant so can't speak to the service and atmosphere. I've only ever ordered from UberEats. The onion soup is very good. I will continue to order but not their raw sushi. First time I ordered it was great. My last two recent orders, the sushi had a strong fishy smell to it which is not typical of fresh clean sushi. It should not have that strong of a scent, it should have very little or almost no scent. Nothing happened with the first fishy scented sushi but this time (most recent order) I got food poisoning. Wanted a place nearby to have hibachi with a friend and this place fit the bill. I tried to make a reservation for 2 but I was told they don't take reservations for 2. When you walk in there are two doors, to the left is the hibachi side and the right is the regular restaurant. Came on a Tuesday around 6:30 pm and the place was busy but we were seated in about 5 minutes after arrival. We ordered drinks while we waited for the rest of the table to fill, which happened in about 15 minutes. The menu offered some appetizers and then hibachi, with a few combos as well. The hibachi comes with soup, salad, shrimp appetizer, vegetables, noodles, and rice, followed by the ice cream or sherbet. They also provide two dipping sauces. I opted for the chicken and steak, without the rice. I also ordered the soup without mushrooms. The salad and soup came quickly. Then the hibachi chef came out and confirmed the orders. He started cooking the noodles and the vegetables, and cooked my vegetables separately since I have a mushroom allergy. Then he cooked the shrimp, followed by all the meat. Then he had the kids at the table do the egg trick which was cool, and then cooked the rice last. After everyone was done we got ice cream, I had the green tea and it was great! The place is busy, can get loud, and clearly a place for celebrating birthdays! The bathrooms are off to the back and right side, which is also a connection hallway to the other side of the restaurant that is the non-hibachi side. Would definitely come back. There is a hibachi side to the restaurant and a regular dining section, and we usually opt for the regular dinner section which has made to order selections. A pro tip is that you can get the hibachi food on this side of the restaurant, which we do so that we can still chat and have normal conversation. This is a good place to bring groups of people, especially if members of your party have difference preferences. Ordered a Chicken Teriyaki Lunch Box- and it was delivered with dry clumps of chicken ( with NOT A DROP of Teriyaki sauce on them . Vegetables were blanched and dry as well. Noodles were also dry and tasteless. Called the restaurant to say the sauce was missing and they sent me another meal. That one had no sauce either. This past Saturday I had another project in Connecticut so off we go, bad weather and all. OK I have to get this off my chest. I don't particularly like these residential deals in Connecticut but when a good client asks or just maybe it's a celebrity I'll do it. Unfortunately confidentiality rules in my industry forbid giving out personal info. But if the name Baba Booey means anything. So I have a 3:00 PM meeting and we get there early. You'd think they'd invite us for sandwiches. I'm right in downtown Greenwich and I can tell you we have much better restaurants on Long Island. So we pick this restaurant which is just about empty when we get there. A sign on one door says traditional Japanese food. We choose this door. We order quickly, wife orders some kind of chicken lunch in a box and I order Beef Negamachi, a favorite of mine. Food comes fairly quickly and at the same time the restaurant is filling up with customers. Good sign. I'm happy with my meal but my wife is so so. I think she was a little disappointed with her choice because she wasn't exactly sure of what she was getting. Turns out that he door we didn't go through was the Hibachi Table side. Now we all know that Hibachi is not even close to real Japanese food but the option is a nice idea. Overall, not a Long Island restaurant, but I would return when I'm back there. First things first: food is agonizingly bland and largely tastes the same. I tried to like this place, I really did. But after 3 tries, the food just never impressed me and was consistently boring and tasteless. The wait service is unbelievably slow... even when the place is empty during lunch time! The Hibachi Chef Masters are exquisite and the restaurant has a nice spacious, albeit cool/ cold atmosphere. But overall, the place is nothing to raise eyebrows at -- and that is why it's almost always empty every lunch on weekdays that I go there. Details: ----- I tried the hibachi and greatly enjoyed the experience itself. The chopping chef was a real master! The fireshow was spectacular. The menu options for the meats were good with alright prices. However, as has been the case with many hibachi and East Asian food places-- they can fall short when it come to actual flavor. They use the same cooking sauce on everything, and lack seasoning and salt which creates for tastelessness flavor, or lack thereof. They really should invest in more sauces and seasonings directly on the cooked food and on the salad. No matter what you order (hibachi or no) it tastes the same or too similar to me-- something that I can't say of any other restaurant or food menu. Also, I don't appreciate the separate cold sauces on the side for the salad (I think), as those don't fit well with the hot cooked food, and their taste is odd to me - refrigerated cold, oddly sweet, and sour. That's a No from me. They are also a waste. I always question if those sauces get recycled since almost nobody uses them, but that is just my own fear I suppose. The hibachi experience and the chef deserve 5 stars. The blandness of the main food and salad deserves 2-3 stars. Overall, it is just okay, but by my 3rd time I am really not pleased and have definitely determined not to go back or use up my time/ money there. I also regretted my 2nd and 3rd time going there because it was tasted and felt same even though I ordered different foods. Here's a hint - try to diversify your cooking sauce on the hot food! I have been going to Abis since they were in Mamaroneck as a kid I used to sit at their table where your legs went under the floor. It's a shame after ordering food from Uber eats and paying the same price for hibachi scallops as their scallop entrée, but I did not receive the soup or salad or three shrimp appetizer. This is a review for the Hibachi side. I had a good time and have fond memories of the sushi side from childhood (~20 years ago!) so I'm am sad to say I was so disappointed. My top gripes were: 1) the fish in the Koi pond were outrageously large for such a small pond, it made me so sad to see. My 1.5 year old loved it and had fun feeding them and I'm no fish expert but it seemed bad. 2) our hibachi chef was super nice but the food was below average. Fried rice was burnt with egg shells in it. No bean sprouts. Everything else was totally average. 3) out waitress was nice but service was not good. When they brought the soup and we asked what kind it was they didn't know and just said "regular" which is hilarious but like come on! Forgot to bring the white rice. 4) scorpion bowl was trash. I've never really had a good scorpion bowl but I'm incapable of getting hibachi without ordering one. But this was one of the worst ones I've had. Overall good time because it's almost impossible to have a bad time at hibachi but I won't be returning. read more

The mediocre reviews were kind of surprising to me as I've been going here for years and never had an experience that wasn't great - most have been fantastic. The filet mignon, salmon & lobster hibachi are particular favorites, though I have tasted the other meats which have also been fantastic. The sushi is always fresh and flavorful, and the kimchi and kitchen appetizers are fantastic. The service is also spectacular - special shoutout to my usual waiter, Leo, who's always on top of things. Drinks are pretty good too, but not quite up to par with the food - small price to pay for the best hibachi. Eating outside during the pandemic is very safe as well. We've been coming to the buffet brunch for years. They've redecorated very tastefully, filling every corner with buddhas and Japanese artwork. The raised front platform and koi pond are gone, along with the crowded table placement. The seating is now cut by half, as is the crowd and free flowing champagne and mimosas. It's become so....tranquil. What happened? The sushi is still grocery store quality, the tempura soggy, but neither have changed throughout the years. New dishes appear - sliced tuna, salmon and tuna sashimi pieces, spicy shrimp, crunchy fried fish with tonkatsu sauce, calamari salad, spicy tofu. They try. The service has had a few negative reviews, but that shouldn't affect the brunch. The price has increased to $29, and the free drinks now stop at one, with the next 1/2 price. Greenwich Ave. has experienced a drop in tenants and many are now struggling with the rent. Now Abis is serene and peaceful, allowing one to find their zen center without that (previously free) alcohol buzz and noisy background. Hmmmm. read more

I'm writing this in the hopes that Abis improves. We went in early January. This is our first visit back since pre-Covid and we were really disappointed. Our party was not seated properly so half our birthday party had their backs to the other half of the party. The vents didn't seem to be working and there was a perpetual haze and smell of burn. There was grease or something falling off the overhead hood onto one of our food plates. It was gross. The smell of burn was because the chefs were not cleaning the grills after they prepared the food. The hot buildup was just getting blacker and blacker. Finally, someone did come and kept sloshing large amounts of water over the grill in hopes of removing the residue. It didn't work and was not appetizing to watch while we ate. The chef was uninspired. The fried riced was burned. The onion tower fell over. The fire was huge and needs a little more control. Kids were scared (and let's be honest, this is really for the kids because the food is not very good). Finally, I wish someone would do an animal welfare check on the koi pond. Despite the sign, people keep throwing money in the pond and the water is murky and the fish look lethargic. read more
