Steam was pretty good, not bad, not great. The thing holding it back from a fifth star is that the dishes lack the oomph of flavors commiserate with Asian cuisine. Otherwise you can tell it's healthier than standard American Chinese cuisine and doesn't have as much sugar and oil.

I was a little hesitant to try this restaurant again based on the previous reviews, but I heard it was under new management and culinary team as of September. And I can confirm - it's so much better! We ordered the Lion's Head Meatballs, Three Pepper Beef, Dragon Eggplant, and fried rice. They were all very delicious and authentic. My favorite was the Dragon Eggplant, it was beautifully presented and very tasty. The new manager even came out to ask us what we thought. We will definitely be back.

Off the menu, custom crafted Shui Zhu Yu, Sichuan boiled fish at Steam. Masterpiece. Rounded off with Dan Dan noodles and hot and sour soup.

Orange chicken Drunken a noodles Beef and broccoli

Something has changed in this place, administration, chef or ingredients. Food is not the same, soggy noodles, flavorless and plain beef and broccoli, orange chicken with a bitter taste. We loved this place, but we have come few times now and the food is not the same. Poor quality for expensive dishes-

Steam Asian Kitchen is ok. The prices are reasonable for pricey Greenwich Ave - and they have bubble tea boba - hard to find in this region. The online menu is wrong - see photo - dressing & duck sauce with brown sugar bubble tea ? No thanks! Comparing it to New York City ? No comparison. For this area, I feel lucky to have Steam, as local options are very limited for dim sum & ramen. This past week l tried the soups. Steam's menu offers a wide selection of different types of ramen broths & toppings. I decided to give it a try. The ramen was four stars. I love the menu selection of different ramens - miso, shoyu, tonkatsu, and even coconut curry. Plenty of toppings to choose from as well. Design your own combination -- the menu is highly customizable. The chicken based Shanghai wonton soup was a disappointment. All salt no flavor. Plain wontons. Had to add water to the broth - salt salt salt. It was affordable at 5$ but Manchu Garden's wonton soup is better & their portion size is larger. Hopefully, as more people move to CT, there will be increased demand for more restaurants & more choices. When Fuji Mart closed permanently, the area lost one of the few places for bubble tea & Asian groceries. Since then, the effects of the pandemic have impacted businesses, especially restaurants. Steam isn't a bad option & it's convenient. Will return.

    Crispy Noodle with Meatball

We went to Steam for an early dinner. Since there were eight of us, we were treated to a wide variety of selections from the menu. Everything was very enjoyable. I was especially pleased with the Cumin Lamb with carrot, onion & cilantro. The taste was subtle and not overly spicy. We also enjoyed the Crispy Noodle & Meatball as well as the Black Pepper Beef. The Dragon Eggplant with Garlic Sauce was absolutely delicious. I would highly recommend Steam for a casual dinner with friends.

I love bubble tea a lot and will enjoy from any kind. We ordered our usually most successful passion fruit and mocha teas, but it was not tasty at all. We throw them without finishing them. The mocha was so bitter, and the passion fruit was just chip sweet and colored synthetic taste. Each drink was $6, and it could be not so expensive unless you through it. I'm not suggesting this place

Like the other reviews, it's a pretty good place for lunch though subpar at best. I do believe that there should be more easy and casual restaurants like this place! I ordered the shrimp and pork shumai, veggie pad Thai, and the passion fruit boba. The shumai was good but a bit rubbery, but I think it was because the wrapper was thicker than what I'm used to. Veggie pad Thai was flavorful and had a bit of spice, which I liked. I have to say though one complaint I have is the amount of salt/msg that's going into the food. I'm pretty sensitive to those kinds of things so a few hours later, my head was hurting and I was super bloated for a long time--just be prepared for that if you visit this place. Lastly the passion fruit boba. Just to be clear, I'm not a boba enthusiast, this was probably my second or third time getting it. The pearls were definitely over cooked or old, I'm not sure but they were flavorless and too chewy. The tea itself was not sweet, so I thought I had to mix it, but still nothing. I would just recommend getting drinks somewhere else because to me it wasn't really worth it. The place is super small and cramped, even the servers had an awkward time getting the food out. There were tons of takeout orders and it was pretty busy during lunch so there were practically no places to sit inside. Seems like they seem to run out of food easily too, I asked for matcha boba and they said they ran out. Overall, this place wasn't too bad although as an Asian American I think they could do better, I feel like they're more focused on serving the white locals.

New ownership, a new menu, excellent service and renovated premises! Delicious Chinese food! We tried several dishes, and they all tasted great! Especially, noteworthy was the Brown Sugar rice cake, the best I have had ever!

Stopped in for a quick bubble tea on my way home! I got the Passionfruit Bubble Tea with the passion fruit exploding bobas. Came out to around 6.50 with tax - a little pricey for some but honestly Steam is one of the only places around here to get bubble tea and it's on Greenwich Ave so it's expected. The people working there are especially kind, welcoming, and very helpful! It's a casual dining place and it's nice to have in this location since Greenwich Ave typically has more fancier/pricier restaurants. The bubble tea was good, the passion fruit was refreshing and it wasn't sweet, which I personally liked - it tasted like real fruit juice. I'll definitely be coming back and trying the sweeter bubble tea flavors as well as their food, can't wait!

Immediately upon sitting down we saw that the prices were insane for what the menu items actually were. We ordered the shrimp tempura appetizer, which was $18 for 4 shrimp. It was very good, but worth it...? I don't know. The sweet potato croquettes had a great texture on the interior and exterior, but absolutely no flavor inside. The dim sum was delicious, but also overpriced for just 4 small soup dumplings. I ordered the stir-fried udon, and the noodles themselves were delicious, but the chicken was tough/overcooked and also had no flavor. The organic grilled chicken was a bit burnt on the outside and too salty. It was a $32 plate for just chicken and a few veggies-- it didn't even come with white rice or anything. For this price point, I'd expect that I'm paying for at least great service. But our waiter left us alone and only checked on us maybe twice the whole time? We were waiting about 15 minutes just to get the check because he'd completely disappeared. The restaurant wasn't crowded, and we were one of just two tables in the section, so I'm not sure why he left us alone for so long. Eventually, two other employees checked us out and packed our food after waiting that long. Overall, it was pretty disappointing and we left wishing we'd just gone somewhere else. I've gone to Japanese restaurants and had the same amount of food (if not more) for better quality, better service, and better price.

Everything I've ordered has been amazing, and I honestly don't understand how the rating is so low. The service is super fast, and while I usually do takeout, the inside looks very clean and well kept. The General Tso's chicken is outstanding, and I also love the lo mein. Unlike so many other Chinese spots in Greenwich, the food here isn't greasy at all, which makes such a difference. I can't recommend this place enough--I'm constantly telling everyone about it. And if you were a fan of Oriental Gourmet in Old Greenwich, this is the closest Chinese food I've found to them.

Over past visits, I've ordered the mango & jicama salad, mixed greens salad, seaweed salad, satay chicken, salmon avocado roll, and yellowtail scallion roll, and have also shared the wonton soup, spicy scallop roll, and Philadelphia roll. The mango & jicama salad is light and refreshing, the seaweed salad is standard, but I prefer the mixed greens salad -- it feels a bit more substantial and includes jicama, tomatoes, carrots, and a tasty peanut dressing. The satay chicken was solid and true to its name, though a bit oily for my taste. The wonton soup had a nice balance of filling to wrapper and was comforting. Both the salmon avocado roll and yellowtail scallion roll were fresh with a good fish-to-rice ratio. The yellowtail scallion roll wasn't rolled tightly enough, so it fell apart a little, but it still tasted great. The spicy scallop roll came mixed, which isn't my personal preference, and the Philadelphia roll was about what you'd expect. Overall, my favorites are the mixed greens salad, salmon avocado roll, and yellowtail scallion roll. I plan to stick with those three next time!

For anyone wondering about the name, it's pronounced "Me-uh Chah" (not "Mek-ah") and translates to "Mother and Father"--which feels fitting given how much more "soul" the food has lately. A few years back, I felt like they were missing the mark on the essentials, specifically the phở broth and the nước nắm. If you know Vietnamese food, you know those are the dealbreakers. The great news is they've clearly dialed in the recipes. I've been coming back regularly now because the flavors are finally hitting those traditional notes that are so hard to find in this part of Connecticut. My typical order: * Phở Gà (Chicken) * Phở Tái (Rare beef) * Phở Bò Viên (Beef meatballs) * Chả Giò (Fried spring rolls) -- Absolute must-order. They do have a lot of non-traditional stuff like Bao, Handrolls, and a solid Spicy Miso Ramen, and while those are actually very good, I usually stick to the Vietnamese classics since they're doing them so well now. The atmosphere is also worth mentioning. It has a really cool, organic vibe with tons of wood accents. The ceiling is covered in hundreds of 2x4s that hang down like a weeping willow canopy--it's unique and looks great in person. Pro-Tips: * Parking: Don't even bother trying to find a spot on Bedford Street; it's a nightmare. Park in the lot around the back and just use the pedestrian passage to walk through the building. * The App: If you're doing takeout, use their mobile app. It's a lifesaver on the weekends when the dining room gets slammed. So glad to have a reliable phở spot in downtown Stamford again!

I actually went during restaurant week, but since I ordered it to go, I didn't get to take advantage of any of the promo pricing. the ambiance is always nice at Mecha, no matter the location. Even just popping in, you can feel that trendy, laid back vibe they're known for. This was my first time trying bone marrow with my. pho, and I'll admit I thought it came mixed into the broth. Instead, you have to scoop it out of the bone yourself, it reassures you that it's fresh, but I think I might've ordered it wrong. I'd probably go with marrow oil next time for a smoother experience. The pho itself felt clean and comforting, definitely one of those meals you can enjoy a little guilt free, especially if you're feeling under the weather. Overall, it's a good option, just a bit pricey for what it is. I'd be open to coming back, especially to dine in next time during a restaurant week if I have the time.
