Lets just say that the search for good thai food in the Macomb area continues. This is one of these things, once this place had ok thai food but now garbage. So this is the scoop, ordered red curry, the wife Pad Thai. Red curry was bland and lacking of red curry but chock full of coconut milk and grease. The wife's was burnt or something, the noodles and egg were a dark brown.....yuk. I used to like this place a few months ago but now it just sucks and is half-assed thai. I just really need to drive somewhere further I guess for thai food. By the way this place and it's food does not resemble the food that they are preparing at Bangkok in Ferndale. I hate saying it but this place is horrible, stay away. read more

Best thai in macomb. Food is always fresh, and not too pricey. Great for take out or dining in. Take out is always neat and I've never had anything missing and when you dine in you'll have the sweetest waitress ever! She's always attentive and extremely polite. So had to revise this review. The best thing Ban Thai had going for them was their sushi bar. They have since eliminated their sushi bar, stating it takes too long to make sushi. My first review I have ever written. I LOVE Thai food, I eat it at least 2 times a week. I travel everywhere in Michigan. This has to be one of the worst Thai food places I have ever eaten. I ordered Tom Yum soup, and Crab Rangoon, Thai coffee and a water. My Thai coffee was all water, seriously I sent it back. Now I NEVER send things back! He also told me he is the son of the owner of bangkok cafe in ferndale. I really don't know how it was before but all I know is Ban Tai is now my go to Thai food restaurant. I've been to surrounding Thai restaurants and was not impressed. I ordered the chicken pad thai, vegetable curry, beef n broccoli in a brown sauce, and chicken wing appetizers. Pretty good shrimp pad Thai. It wasn't as spicy as I would have liked. The shrimp were nice, big, and juicy, but there were only like 5 shrimps. I tried the chicken pad thai and the spring rolls. I'll start with the chicken pad Thai. I was really disappointed with the flavor. Like another reviewer mentioned, it had very little flavor. The texture of the noodles and the amout of chicken was good, unfortunately it was not balanced with any spices. If they raise their flavor game, the pad Thai has a lot of potential. Let's turn to the spring rolls. I think spring rolls are really hard to mess up. Correction, I thought they were. This place made me stand corrected. These spring rolls were oozing with grease. Stopped by on a whim, and I sorely regret it. The Pad Thai was so watery and bland, I couldn't even eat it. The stir fry just tastes like soy sauce, and the crab rangoons and spring rolls tasted like they were fried in 1000 year old oil or something. Not fresh at all. Had chicken pad Thai mild and chicken pad gapow mild along with two spring rolls and shrimp chips. The spring rolls and shrimp chips were great, but that is easy to do. The pad Thai was tasty but had what looked to be old scallions and old bean sprouts in them. Nothing special. The gapow was also tasty but nothing I would describe as gapow, as I have had the real thing in Thailand and by my mom. I ate there for the first time today and I was impressed. I eat Thai a couple of times a year and usually from places like that; small, fast and cheap. This was by far the best I've had. The food was very fresh and crisp. The sauce wasn't to overbearing or thick and the ladies were very very nice. Maybe if I frequented nicer Thai places I'd have a different opinion but I was very happy with this place. Oh, one thing that I should mention is that if you like hot foods then you should tell them you want it hot. I've been to places where "medium" meant "chemical burns on the tongue" or "hot" meant "luke warm bath water". I got "medium +" and it was only just a little bit spicy. My boyfriend and I come here frequently to get our sushi fix. The food is good and reasonably priced and the restaurant is nice and quiet. We have the same server every time and she is very sweet and attentive without being obnoxious or intrusive.
