Thai Orchid has gotten praise from me anytime that Thai food comes up during conversations for many years. It has hands down been my favorite place to order Thai dishes from, unfortunately until today. I ordered the pad Thai curry and it just tasted like a normal pad Thai dish with the traditional sweet sauce rather than the richer, creamier curry. People tend to mention dislike for a "soupy" texture but I prefer my noodles not dry and with the sauce that should be included. I won't knock down more than one star due to them being my preferred restaurant for so long, but I have to be honest by mentioning that I won't rush to return. Great Thai food and always worth a repeat visit. Today the Massaman curry was a bit disappointing as the potatoes were overcooked, and it was almost like mashed potatoes. There was also not much spice for being mild, which it usually has. We never like to overdo the spice to be able to actually taste the food. The dish did taste well overall, and maybe this was just an off day. The tofu tod was delicious and the spring rolls never disappoint. We will return to this restaurant again. Food is perfect! Nice variety. Offers a nice variety of soups, appetizers, and noodles.. something you normally don't see the walleye is very good. Mount Clemens is definitely home to some great restaurants and Thai Orchid is one of those places. Came in on a rainy Tuesday night with a friend, having a craving for some green curry. On the outside, the building is just your standard small downtown shop. But it's nice and cozy inside and the owner was very warm and welcoming. I started with a hot tea and some Tom Yung soup with shrimp. Then I ordered the C5 (green curry) and my friend ordered Pad Thai. This is truly some of THE best Thai food I've had in the United States. The green curry was perfectly spiced (I like mild plus) and the portion was enough for 2. Loaded with veggies and green curry goodness. And a nice bowl of white rice on the side. My friend said it was the best pad Thai she's ever had also. I ordered a pad Thai spicy to go for my husband and an order of spring rolls. My husband gobbled it down and told me I need to bring carry out home from there from now on! It's an absolute staple in Mount Clemens. Foods always outstanding, prices are reasonable! If you plan to order a takeout from here maybe considering dining in. Tried this place for the first time and pleasantly surprised. I'm always skeptical about Thai food because it can be really hit or miss. I got a variety of dishes: soup, curry, fried rice, and noodles. Overall, I loved the rice. My favorite was the Sweet and Sour Fried Rice. It was so unique and nothing like I've gotten at other places. The red curry I got was also delicious. Everything had great flavor! My only complaint were the noodles were a little on the mushy side. My wife suggested let's go to Mt. Clemens and eat. Well we found a good place. I like Thai food my wife is not a fan of spicy food. We started with the crispy rolls these are very similar to egg rolls. The dipping sauce was a clear sauce and it was good ,it had small chunks of cucumber and carrots in it, it was better than plum sauce and not as sweet. I had the kaw pad curry (pineapple fried rice) with chicken. It was spiced mild. The chicken was tender and the rice was soft . The vegetables were tender and had pineapple chunks. Thai Orchid pretty much has the Thai game on lock in Mt. Clemens which is too bad since I've found them to be mediocre and inconsistent. It's a classic 2.5 hovering between meh and being pretty decent but I'll grade down for the uncertainty of knowing how fresh and flavorful the food is going to taste. I usually avoid shrimp here because I've gotten it served lukewarm, possibly a little undercooked multiple times. I've never gotten sick, but it just gives me anxiety I might. I've had Pad Thai and other noodle dishes that were really dry, too, and ingredients that just scream they were frozen. It's hard to gauge the spice level, too, though it seems to trend on the weaker side. I usually go for hot where at some Thai places I stick with medium or get the fabled medium plus if it actually exists there. I've had pretty good meals here, too, though but those times seem to be in the minority. They used to serve the shrimp chips and a tiny cup of soup back when dine in was a thing. As other reviewers have noted some of the folks here don't have the best command of the English language so you need patience for that. Pandemic times, they have some pretty intense biohazard clear plastic draping off the lobby from the forlorn dining area and the register with little windows cut out for handing food and payment over. The last couple carry outs were some of the better food I've had here, the last one being one of the rice dishes. Still, they're not close to the upper echelon of metro Detroit, or even Macomb County Thai places. read more

Been going there for many years but sad to say, I'm now crossing them off my list. Always order the same things: Spring Rolls, chicken pad Thai, vegetable fried rice (no hot seasoning). Spring rolls continue to be excellent, but the Pad Thai and vegetable fried rice have changed. Gave it one last try last weekend. The Pad Thai is so salty to the point of being inedible, plus it is very soupy for lack of a better word. The vegetable fried rice was also very, very salty. Plus it was cooked too much to the point of being mushy and clumped together. Complained to server. Asked if there was a new Cook, answer no. Well, anyone can have a bad night, but this was the second if not third time this happened. Server offered nothing in the way of apology or recompense. This has probably been here forever, but we were looking to try something new in our rotation. This was very good. We had a crispy roll appetizer. It was a bit dry but the Special Thai sauce that came with it made it very good. I had the house special which was the Thai orchid chicken with a very mild (they tried) curry sauce. It really was delicious. Yes it had a slight bit of heat but not too overbearing. Loved how it was served. Place seemed to be clean. The server forgot our drinks but they only had one server on hand and it suddenly just got very busy when we were there with carry outs and dine in's. We were still well cared for and all was good. I just picked up a carry out and I'm certain I will never come back for anything besides the crispy rolls . I ordered chicken pad Thai mild with no egg and peanuts on the side (for my child) . The noodles were so dry so I took a bite and realized it tasted like how a mildew sponge smells like . So I dumped it Into a big bowl to look at it and there was a little bit of sauce at the bottom of the container but not enough to coat everything so The noodles were clumped Together . There was egg on it also when I requested no egg . They didn't give us bean sprouts either . They did put the peanuts on the side. My daughter also complained it tasted like mildew. So I tried to add extra lemon, peanuts and spice , even the sauce they give in the chicken rolls but it still had a terrible moldy taste . Located in the downtown district of Mt. Clemens, this is a nice spot for take out when you are craving Thai food. My go to choice is Pad Thai. For carry out, the boxes are always packed full so you get a good portion for what you pay for. The spice levels are true to what you expect and the pad thai is pretty good. I've only been here once, but my experience was quite good. There are a limited number of east/southeast asian restaurants in the area, so it's great to find a good thai option around here. The interior is nice enough and it's certainly clean and well kept. The service was both friendly and quick. The food was very solid, fairly reasonably priced, and the portions are generous (both I and the person I visited the restaurant with struggled to finish our entrees). They also have many vegetarian/vegan options on the menu, which is a major plus for me. While I have experienced thai food that wowed me more than this did, I can't come up with a single complaint, and this is by far the best east/southeast asian food i've found in the area. Considering the options in the region, this is easily a 5 star spot for me. read more
