My friends and I came to this place around 10pm on a Friday and got seated right away. We did call ahead of time to let them know a big party is coming. I got the superior beef combo with chicken broth and it was delicious!!! I love their sauce bar as they have so many different options and even instructions on how to make your sauce. What surprised me was that they serve raw egg at the sauce bar for your sauce. My friend and I added the egg in our soup towards the end of the meal to eat it with the noodles and it was yummy! Honestly I love that this place opens so late and offers so many affordable combos. The workers are really nice and the food was served all together to our party of 6.

Visiting from LA, I did not expect Calgary of all places to have such an authentic hot pot place. The vibes are on point compared top hot pot spots in LA. Bustling, loud, with happy faces stuffing tasty items in their mouths. I had the mild medium legendary spicy and the flavors were great. The dishes were all of high quality and the sauce bar had all the usual condiments. We had a couple service related issues which is why one star was removed. Overall, tentative and helpful employees.

I was in town for the weekend for a little Banff get-away and even though Calgary isn't Banff, Chine Hot Pot is probably the highlight and favorite meal of the entire trip. Of course, I am heavily biased since hot pot is one of my all-time favorite meals but Chine is better than a lot of Bay Area places I have been to. We came here on a Sunday evening and were pleased to find out that they offer a happy hour menu, which consisted of a set meal. The set meal came with your choice of protein (none, beef, lamb, or seafood) paired with 4 veggies, 4 sides, and 1 carb (rice, udon, or ramen). I ordered the beef with tripe, tofu, fried bean curd, zucchini, quail eggs, cumin meat balls, beef balls, and ramen (did I forget anything). With the half mild mala spicy pot. Everything was fresh, delicious, and up to par. They also have an unlimited sauce bar filled with traditional Chinese/Taiwanese sauces. Overall, I really enjoyed this place and would highly recommend anyone to come here!

Came here for lunch on a weekday and it was not busy at all. Got served pretty quickly. I got the New Zealand lamb combo and also got an extra portion of the superior beef slice. Got the Chine Legendary Spicy broth at the mild level and it was more spicy than I expected but still pretty good. All of the meat and veggies were also pretty good. I think my favorite was the sliced ones but that's to be expected. I got the udon noodles as my carb and they're softer than you would expect so there's not really a need to cook them that long else they'll start falling apart. Good price, good food.

Came here for the first time and it was very good lots of choices on the menu and on the sauce bar and very cool experience all together with the hot pots the broth was light which was nice because you can add garlic or onions to enhance the flavour on your own all and all the service was good even though it was busy and we had a great time

Definitely a much more sanitize way to eat hotpot. I came here by myself on a Wednesday night and unfortunately the ignition on the gas stove in the back kitchen was broken. The owner knew that it was not a busy night and decided to close the restaurant early at around 8 ish. I showed up at 9pm and was hoping to take advantage of their late night deal. The owner had 2 of his staff at the front, to greet customers and let them know that the restaurant is closed. It was somewhat disappointing for me because I walked 50 mins to the restaurant from my place. The staff took down my name and later sent me a text. He was very apologetic and showed me a picture of their broken stove. He also gave me 50% off the next day I dined in. As well, they were willing to provide me with the late night deal without me having to dine in at 9pm. So of course, on Thursday, I came back to the restaurant. I ordered their late night special. The food came with lots of veggies already in the pot, a choice of meat and a drink. I got the the lamb to go with my hotpot. The meal had 5 slices of good thick cut lamb. Everything was fresh. They have a self serving sauce station. It worked out great for me because I am a sauce person and being able to serve myself was just perfect. I had my hotpot with the Chinese Herbal soup. The soup was flavorful. Portion size was good. Everything was fresh. They have the $14.99 special at lunch and after 9pm daily. Service was good too. Overall, everything was yummy. I highly recommend giving this place a try if you haven't. I have noticed that they have some pretty good options on soups, drinks and add-on for your hotpot. It is located at Center Street Mall and there are parking on the side, back and front of the restaurant. Again, Highly recommend trying this place out if you haven't!

They serve a special type of beef hot pot called ChaoShan Hot Pot (潮汕火鍋) - every part of beef are carefully sliced to allow eaters to enjoy each part of the beef to its fullest. I was at the restaurant during weekday mid afternoon. It was a bit quiet as we are recovering through COVID. The servers are very enthusiastic and have great knowledge about their beef. I ordered a combo to start as it provides me with sample platter of all common beef cuts. The services were very quick. Within minutes, I am served with a clear beef bone soup for hot pot, vegetables, beef balls, tendon, and different cuts of beef in hot pot slices. The cut mainly consists of sirloin, flank, cheek, shank, chuck, rump, and tongue. I can assure you, every bite takes you to a whole new adventure! Starting from the flank, this is the piece where one side is fat and the other is the meat layer. But don't let the layer of fat hold you back, the flavour is smooth yet the soft texture of beef is present. Next is the cheek, this is a prized piece with a soft tender chew, which makes it my favourite piece. The shank consist of two parts- fore shank and hind shank. They are both as good, but I personally prefer the hind shank because it has a softer texture than the fore shank. The chuck has three parts - chuck, chuck rib, and chuck flap. The texture of chuck flap and chuck might have a bit of a chew due to the tendon, but the way it is sliced thinly makes it a delightful cut to enjoy. There are other cuts of beef which I wont explain and will leave it for you to discover. This is a decent portion and a great opportunity for you to try all the different cuts. I highly recommend this place to others. It might be a bit pricey as all dishes are a la carte or combo. But the fact that their beef are fresh daily and never frozen. They maintain the quality standard of meat and you will likely get addicted to it. At least I am!

3.5 Stars - Great self-serve buffet, but watch out for the "all-fat" meat plates…read more I generally don't leave reviews for chain restaurants like Happy Lamb, but I felt compelled to share my experience here. We've been to many similar spots across North America--starting with Little Fat Sheep in the Bay Area 20 years ago. We actually just visited a Happy Lamb in Houston a month ago and it was just "meh," so I was surprisingly impressed by the setup at this Calgary location. The self-serve buffet area was way better than the ones we've visited in Houston or back in Fremont, California. It had a fantastic variety of choices, including my beloved frozen fish, mussels, and beef tendon. There were plenty of veggies, a great sauce station, and a soda fountain. Most importantly, the buffet stations were very clean and well-attended by the staff. However, the meat service is where things fell apart. We paid for four adult prices (my kids 10&13 met the threshold, I know the rules, and I have no complaints about that). The first two plates of sliced beef were perfect, with an ideal 30/70 fat-to-lean ratio. But the third plate was completely outrageous. They served us a plate of meat that was almost entirely solid fat (picture attached). Obviously, we aren't going to eat a health hazard like that, but because we didn't want to get hit with their "food waste" penalty, we just had to call it a day and stop ordering. Please, at least serve a table of four paying adults four normal plates of meat before trying to pass off pure fat. That maneuver definitely cost them a big point in my book. The service was also quite sloppy, though it is clearly because the restaurant is severely understaffed. Our server was a small lady who was running non-stop--cleaning tables, bringing out meat, and never catching a break. I have no complaints against her personally, but her overwhelmed attitude made us feel like asking for a single extra plate of meat was a massive inconvenience. Overall, we had a pretty good meal and we will likely visit this location again, but we will strictly avoid the busy hours. And next time, please don't serve us that health-hazard meat.

The restaurant is huge and very clean. You pick your soup base (there's an extra charge), and we chose the clear broth and the hot & sour broth--both were great, but I personally preferred the hot & sour one. We ordered beef and lamb, and the rest of the ingredients were self-serve. They have a wide selection of veggies, fish balls, meatballs, and more. There are also appetizers like fried chicken, spring rolls, and sesame balls, plus self-serve sodas. The staff was attentive and constantly checked on us, which I appreciated. Another huge plus--there's no time limit! I love that we didn't have to rush to finish like at most hot pot places. They also offer ice cream, but you have to ask for it at the counter. Unfortunately, it wasn't very good--tasted diluted--so I wouldn't recommend that part. Overall, I highly recommend this place for a fun, delicious, and relaxing hot pot experience!

The interior of the restaurant has seen better days and they will be undergoing a major renovation from September 21st to 2025. The owner, Jay, was pleasant and attentive. He brought us a plate of complimentary spring rolls with sweet chili sauce. They were piping hot and super crunchy! Our family ordered three personal hot pots to warm us up on a cool autumn afternoon: spicy miso soup with lamb; Tom Yum soup with seafood; kimchi soup with beef. Our soups arrived in a timely fashion on top of individual burners (this was my first time seeing pink gel used as fuel) and they were intensely flavourful. My lamb was tender and the fish cakes, crab sticks, tofu, enoki/brown mushrooms, suey choy, and konjac vermicelli were deliciously satisfying and comforting. As usual, the boys and I had a taste of all three soup bases, and we decided that we liked them all! Just one thing of note: the soup tends to thicken halfway through your meal, so you might need to add a bit of hot water. We will certainly be back!

We had been eating overly heavy dinners over the past few days, so we decided to be relatively gentle with our order this time. Here is a breakdown of what we tried: Xiao Long Bao (小籠包 - Soup Dumplings): This is my daughter's favorite, so we ordered two baskets for her. They were executed beautifully. They were well-steamed on a clean sheet, and thankfully, there was no grayish blood seeping out of the meat. The wrapper (麵 皮) was right on the spot--not too hard or soft, not too thick or thin, and it didn't have that rubbery "chewing gum" or mushy "play dough" texture you get at lesser places. The pork filling tasted clean with no funky pork smell. Very nice. Beef and Tendon Noodle Soup: This was just okay, but to be fair, I don't expect a flawless bowl of beef noodle soup from a restaurant that doesn't strictly specialize in it (especially at a Dim Sum-focused spot). The broth was a bit plain and served lukewarm. The tendon, however, was well-cooked and well-marinated with a pleasant taste; it was a bit on the firmer side, which didn't bother me. The noodles were on the softer, sparser side rather than dense and chewy. I personally prefer a firmer noodle, but again, I can't complain too much given the venue. Spicy Tofu and Preserved Egg (麻辣皮蛋豆腐): I really liked this dish. The tofu had a fantastic, fresh soy taste, the preserved egg was delicious, and the chili oil and soy sauce dressing was perfectly balanced. If you are wondering what these "black eggs" are and feel a bit hesitant or concerned about trying them, I highly recommend giving them a shot here. This dish will easily fix those concerns! Overall, it was a great meal. I will definitely return, and next time we have the appetite, I'll dive deeper into the dishes they truly specialize in.
