Banana River Cafe is proof that the smell of bacon can make you forgive almost anything. First, a fun fact: they're operated by a CIA graduate. No, not that CIA. The Culinary Institute of America. Our daughter actually graduated from their Baking & Pastry program in San Antonio, so we were already inclined to give the place a try. But I digress. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The moment you walk in, the smell of bacon smacks you right in the face. In the best possible way. So. Dang. Good.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]We stopped in on a busy Sunday afternoon. The dining room was hopping. A few tables could have been bussed a little quicker, my chair needed a quick swipe-down before I sat, and there were a few chips hanging out on the floor.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Normally I'd notice those things more, but then the bacon smell hit again and suddenly none of it seemed quite as important. I ordered two perfectly cooked over-medium eggs, sliced tomatoes (instead of potatoes), and a biscuit. I chose the biscuit over toast or an English muffin with absolutely no intention of eating it. My plan was to take it home for one of the kids. Then I took one bite. Friends, this was THE best biscuit I have ever eaten in my entire life. I don't throw around statements like that lightly. If you visit Banana River Cafe and order absolutely nothing else, order the biscuits. They deserve their own Yelp page. My husband got what I think was called the Power Bowl--a delicious-looking pile of rice, beans, carnitas, and all the ingredients that make a great burrito bowl. Our son absolutely housed his French toast. Our daughter ordered the Rosemary Chicken Salad Wrap with pasta salad. I sampled the chicken salad. It had a whisper of rosemary. A polite suggestion of rosemary. A rosemary cameo appearance. If you're going to call it Rosemary Chicken Salad, I'd personally vote for a little more rosemary. My daughter loved it, though. She also loved the pasta salad but wasn't a fan of the Parmesan sprinkled on top. If Parmesan must be involved, let's keep it to the kind that comes from a block and not the green plastic shaker. Just my two cents. The staff was friendly, service was great, and soda refills appeared before we even had to ask. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I also loved the local artwork displayed throughout the restaurant. It's been a while since I'd eaten there, but my partner and I decided to give it another try for breakfast--and we're so glad we did. [[HIGHLIGHT]]This cozy cafe offers a welcoming mix of seating: counter spots for solo diners, four two-person tables, six four-person tables, and a spacious large-party table in the back right corner.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The interior feels a bit dimly lit, though ample natural light streams in from the front windows.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Convenient parking is available right out front. We were greeted warmly upon arrival and told to seat ourselves. Our waiter arrived promptly with menus and took our drink orders. I opted for the bacon scrambler, while my partner chose poached eggs--both dishes arrived quickly and were absolutely excellent: fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. The total for our meals and drinks came to about $26, which feels very reasonable in today's economy. This food was fantastic. I had the Pesto Chicken and the pesto sauce was excellent. The pesto did not overwhelm all the other ingredients. The chicken was thin, but that made it very tender. The Mussels Tagliatelle was so good and creamy. The mussels were served out of the shells which made it that much easier to eat. We tried all three deserts that were available and they are all recommended. The raspberry beignet may be the best I've ever had. I've had the two most well known in New Orleans and was not that impressed, but this was so soft that it almost melted in your mouth. It is on the small side, but it packs a mouth watering punch! The service was great. The server was attentive and polite. Banana River Cafe is more known for its breakfast and lunch menu. Dinner is a fairly new concept and they are currently only serving dinner on Fridays and Saturdays at the moment. Although the restaurant is now serving dinner, the decor caters to their breakfast and lunch crowd. You are getting an amazing upscale style dinner at a wonderful price point. Each meal was about $20. The deserts are worth every penny. The bottle of Pinot Grigio we had was about $14. I'm not a wine expert, but it was pretty good. For those that care, they are beer and wine only. I rarely give 5 stars, but the quality of the food and the price point make me give it the best I can. Congrats to the chef and staff for putting themselves out there. Excellent job to you all. The only negative thing I can say at this point is that it was hot inside. Not sure if the AC was having trouble keeping up with the kitchen heat or just needs a little maintenance, but it would still not deter me from going back. One last note: I have no affiliation with anyone at this restaurant. Flavor pallets vary. It's just my opinion. I highly recommend you make a reservation, although not necessary, and try this place! This is a favorite place of mine. I've had various things on the menu and all of them have been good. The dishes that I've had have flavors the blend and meet with thought. I particularly love their quiche. It is the best quiche I've ever had and that includes what I've made myself. It's light and fluffy yet filling. I've enjoyed pancakes, eggs, plus lunch items. I belong to groups who meet here and they are warm and friendly. I've never felt rushed by them, though I will vacate to let other people have my table. Patrick Dr., Satellite Beach, FL 32937 5 Stars I swore four years ago I would never go back, yet here I am like fish from yesterfang in the parking lot of a restaurant that at one time (under previous ownership) was my number one breakfast place in Brevard County. After it was sold, it was turned into a joint that wallowed in bad food and even worse service. As I said, that was four years ago. I have since deleted that review. Now, I can say that it is safe to return to the water, but I get ahead of myself. What changed? The new owner/chef is a CIA graduate who did his externship at Michelin Star restaurant Gramercy Tavern in New York City. Emerson Krause turned down a position at the famed restaurant upon graduation to return home and bring Brevard a taste of things seldom sampled in this part of the Sunshine State. I can safely speak for all of my fellow Floridians on the Space Coast when I say, "Thank you, Emerson and welcome home!" After being seated at a delightfully decorated table (I love the paint scheme on the chairs), we were approached by a charming lady named Nicole. Nicole was outstanding in every way a service professional should be. I asked Nicole for an order of the Bacon Sea Salt French Toast, one Texan Potato Stack and a San Antonio Biscuit Bennie. Snapping a few quick pics of the warm environs, I sat back, soaked in the peaceable atmosphere and awaited Nicole's return. The aromas were enticing to such a degree; it was all I could do to take some pictures before digging into the edible artwork before me. First to saunter across my palate was a taste of the Bacon Sea Salt French Toast. One taste and I was deep in Hog Heaven. That bacon! While I love "meat candy" more than almost any other animal flesh, that is not what set this order of the tried and true breakfast staple of French Toast apart. It was the bread and execution. This bread was fresh, thick and griddled to a delightful golden brown. The outside had just the right amount of crunch, while the inside was airy, fresh and wonderfully warm. I could eat this every day and never tire of it. Heaving a sad sigh of regret, I moved on to the next dish to be sampled, the Texan Potato Stack. Every Potato Stack is served with eggs over easy on herb roasted potatoes and topped with jack cheddar cheese sauce with your choice of toast or biscuit. The Texan came with added chorizo, onion, peppers, salsa, guacamole and sour cream. One bite and again, I was done. The flavors cascaded down my gullet like so many drops of gastronomical gratification. The last to dance across my taste buds this morning was the San Antonio Biscuit Bennie. I won't bore you with any more details; suffice it to say that this was on par with the rest of the meal. Everything was cooked to perfection and the flavor combinations were unparalleled in a breakfast biscuit (if this still qualifies as such). Our waitress came over to the table three different times to take our order, only to walk away each time claiming she didn't have a pen. It felt like a joke by the third time. Amazing place. A small restaurant but-wow! they did a great job! There was one waitress and she was absolutely amazing taking care of everyone. Their menu is reasonably priced and the food was very delicious. I got the chocolate chip pancakes with eggs, and my mom got a breakfast bowl they had on the specials board (apologies as I can't remember it's exact name). Make sure to check the specials board on their wall when you come in, everything on there sounded great! I will definitely be coming back here with friends and family. Stopped in on a whim for an early lunch after a visit to Brevard Association for the Advancement of the Blind. It's a local place but seating was easy for late breakfast/early lunch. Menu has a lot of breakfast and lunch variety. We had the Crazy Chicken Salad and the special board burger. Both were great - large portions. Pasta salad side was good as was the fresh fruit. Dad wanted great French toast for Father's Day weekend and this was at the top of our list. On Saturday we arrived around 12:30 and were promptly sat. We focused on the specials boards because they never disappoint. 3 of us got the Nutty French Toast with eggs and bacon, 1 got the Hang 10 Burrito, and the last 1 got the Power Bowl. Everything was absolutely delicious and demolished. We came back for Father's Day on the 19th and brought another family. Though, the wait was around 45 min. What kind of a place is this? I came here around 9:00 am on Friday, October 11, 2024. The place was full. I sat at the counter which had 3 seats. There were two gentlemen to the left of me. There was a young lady and a young man serving the counter. The young lady took my order, a western egg scrambler and coffee. It took forever to get my egg scrambler, but the place was full. When I got the egg scrambler, it was awful. The young lady checked on me and I told her it was awful. I asked her to give me my check. The young man took my check, put it in a plastic folder and threw it on the counter in front of me from about 3 feet away. It was done with contempt, I think, because i complained about the food. Never before had I had my check presented to me in this way. In return I dropped an F-bomb under my breath. The gentleman to my left heard it. It immediately stood up, squared off in front of me and started yelling so loud the whole place could hear. He first said let's go outside. He wanted to fight me. I am 5'9", weigh 165 lbs and am 80 years old. He looked about 6'0", 200 lbs, 30 years old, and muscular. From pictures on facebook, I think he was the owner. Then he yelled at me to get the fuck out, repeatedly. I said I would. I signed my check and left. The F-bomb was a mistake, but it was under my breath and in response to being treated with disgust by the server. It certainly did not justify the treatment delivered by the owner. He could have apologized for the server's treatment of a customer, but instead he chose to want to fight me and throw me out. Like I said: what kind of a place is this?
