I love this place! It's gritty, overwhelmingly awesome, and chock full of great material from records to history books to how-to books to art books to classic magazines and everything in between! You'll find such amazing, eclectic material and deals which are surprisingly discounted even more at the door. And pause for a minute (or 45) to chat with the owner for some great takeaway stories, laughs, and nostalgia....and probably the fun discovery of some significant commonality with him as he's as eclectic as the contents of his store...and that's a good thing! read more

Bandanna Books is a marvel of modern commerce. Never before have I experienced (and hopefully never again will I experience) a bookstore so filthy, so cluttered, so poorly managed, and so redolent of gag-inducing stenches. Students of organizational psychology take note; Bandanna Books is a case study in retail dysfunction that merits intense academic scrutiny. My experience at Bandanna Books began on a warm, lazy afternoon. Possessed by the urge to read but unable to get to the library (which was closed), I decided to give Bandanna Books a try. I drove to Main Street. I parked. I approached the bookstore's entrance. As soon as I stepped through the door, I knew that I'd made a mistake. Slumped behind the front counter was one of the least healthy and least pleasant-looking people I have ever seen. He was middle aged. He had a strange, surly snarl on his sagging face. He was the proprietor of Bandanna Books. Between his long greasy hair and his generally unkempt appearance, he looked like a meth-addicted high school dropout. And if his tweaker appearance was subjectively off-putting, then his business skills were objectively abysmal. The proprietor offered no greeting as I stepped into his shop--a shop devoid of other customers. Although I was taken aback by the condition of the shop, I tried to suppress my revulsion. After all, you can't judge a book by its cover. Right? Hoping to find a silver lining in the dark cloud of Bandanna Books, I said hello to the proprietor and asked if I could look around. What followed was a series of snide, sarcastic remarks from the proprietor. When I told the proprietor that I didn't care for his condescending remarks, he told me to get out of his (empty) store. I did. Gladly. Although my trip to Bandanna Books lasted only a few minutes, it was an experience that left an impression on me. Bandanna Books is a Main Street business. It's located in the heart of downtown Yuma. Presumably, like all centrally located businesses, Bandanna Books should enhance the civic culture of its home city. So what does it say about Yuma that Bandanna Books is allowed to exist? Do Yuma's leaders approve of a dilapidated hovel on Main Street? Do Yuma's leaders approve of a business that looks and smells like a garbage heap? Do Yuma's leaders like alienating tourists and driving down the local tax base by enabling a dysfunctional "business"? Whatever the case, one thing is clear: when it comes to Bandanna Books, judging the "book" by its "cover" is completely acceptable. read more

Was in today on a mission. Looking for a true crime novel to get lost in while visiting my brother and his wife in SunVista RV Park for 2 weeks. What a gem of a store. Love the smell and atmosphere of a used book store. Makes you wonder how many people owned the book you purchased and how far in travels it got before landing here at Bandana books. Could have spent hours in there but was rushed for time,had a piercing booked. Owner was so helpful while he poured/drank his Coke soft drink,lol. Ended up finding a beauty. If we could give no stars, WE WOULD. My wife and I came in today when we noticed the business driving by and we're thrilled to check it out. However, when we walked in, the owner (I'm guessing) was an older guy (in his 60s possibly) greeted us and proceeded to compliment my wife. We didn't think anything of it after she accepted the compliment and continued to look around. However, my wife stayed towards the front where the records were while I walked towards the back where the books were. The owner proceeded to walk by her (making her very uncomfortable) and said, "Don't worry I'm not going to molest you or anything," "not with him here at least" while pointing at me. And he proceeded to walk to me and say "Watch out she's shifty..." This is the most unprofessional and inappropriate interaction my wife and I have ever had in a so called "business." We WILL NOT be returning. Do NOT recommend coming here unless you want to be bothered by a creep..... read more

A book lover or collector could spend hours here, it is a real adventure. This place is not for the prissy or faint of heart. Liberals won't get much sympathy here either. However I have found some real treasures in here. True, you will have to get your dust rag out when you get home but I have not had any problem with odors from the books when I got them home and I am sensitive to that. I have to disagree with the folks who don't like the prices. I have gotten some real bargains. It doesn't hurt to negotiate a little with Steve. If you require the clean shiny floors and fancy coffees of the big box book stores stay away from this place but, if you want to go on a bibliophile's adventure in a place with genuine character owned and operated by a genuine character, this is the place for you! read more

I was just browsing for a book today, and stopped in the store. Incredible selection, well alphabetized and easy to find the subjects. Unfortunately, the smell of must was overpowered by the owner smoking. I prefer my books to come from a smoke free environment and be free of must and mildew. Great to browse, but I doubt that I'd take anything home. read more

CHEAPEST PRICED BOOKS!! If you're looking for deals on books this is the place to go! Prices are on the inside cover. Let's say you're looking at a war book and it's priced $40 the boss cuts the price in half and you get your book for $20. They also take trades!! I love this place!! This place is horrible in every way. The prices are too high, and people are not friendly at all. It has a smell to it. I don't mind the smoking myself being a smoker, but there is a different smell also. I recommend you going to a different book store. read more
