Bandit! You're a thief alright! You stole my heart! My friends and I wanted to hang before the watching "Art Spiegelman: Disaster in My Muse" at the Film Forum. I did a little research and stumbled upon "Bandits"! I absolutely love a vintage bachelor pad basement from the seventies! It's an absolute fave. They did it in a great way. I loved all the little details too. Could not get over the glassware and the booths. And a huge shout out to our waitress yesterday! She was an absolute sweetie pie! It's rare to have someone make you feel like you're a regular, your first time. My boyfriend said the place is great but it's small and popular so it can be super chaotic. I very much lucked out at 3:30 pm on a Saturday, being the tail end of brunch and too early for the nightbirds. I was able to snag a little table by the door. Our waitress let me sit while my friends slowly arrived. We were definitely the weirdos in the room. But we had a great time. I ordered the "Bobby Wasabi" it hit the spot, refreshing and delicious. Then we got the "Dosa Cart Tots". My friend said "send our compliments to the tots chef". The curry sauce and shredded coconut was out of this world! Also the tots were perfectly fried. My friend got the tomato soup and grilled cheese. And it looked amazing. She loved it. People were already eyeballing our prime real estate before we left. Foaming at the mouths. Super cute spot for a happy hour! My friend works in the area and we came here for happy hour on Monday. We had a reservation and were seated right away. Our server was super sweet and gave us lots of time to catch up and chat. We never felt rushed. I had one of their frozen happy hour drinks... the baja blast off. I really liked the tart flavor and it was a pretty good size! We had 2 and I have to be honest that the second one sort of gave me heartburn. Next time I'd switch for my second drink! Bandits was really cool! We went for an earlier dinner at 5pm, before the anticipated bar rush. The space is really warm and retro. The service was very nice and patient, as we had some allergies to note before ordering. The lemon pepper chicken sandwich was delicious! Very crispy and tasted great. The wedge salad was also great, and the best option for someone with extensive allergies. Another great night at Bandits. Not only had some delicious drinks from the menu, but told the bartender what spirits and flavors I like, and he made me some on the fly drinks. Had the decadent grilled cheese and tomato soup, so comforting and filling. Sat and conversed with the security guards for a while, even bought one of the guys a beer. They often checked in on me to make sure I was still doing well and hadn't let my love of cocktails get out of hand! Don't expect this here every night. Bandits can get super busy on weekends. I and the bf have always wanted to try out this spot but ended up only coming late night when it was impossible to get a table, let alone a bar seat. We took the opportunity to come as soon as it opened. Coming right at opening with no reservations is definitely the move. We got fantastic service. Be mindful they will check IDs. Food was pretty good! My favorite thing was the mozzarella sticks; however, there are only 4 and they cost $14, which in my opinion is overpriced, even for the quality. We also got everything bagel shishito peppers and disco tater tots (not pictured) which were all pretty good, but again, a bit pricey. Decor-wise, I'm a sucker for some vintage/70s decor, and this aesthetic was pretty well done for a modern bar! One minor thing - the bathrooms. Omg the bathrooms. Definitely could be better kept. Ugh, I wanted to like it so, so badly. The place itself is actually really cute. I came last night with some friends and we were able to be seated immediately. I thought I was going to have to add an extra person to the res and tried calling multiple times but apparently they don't have a phone line connected (?). Very strange. Luckily my friend canceled last minute so we had the right number of people. We ordered a round of drinks and some apps - the shishito peppers ($12) were good but not groundbreaking. We tried all four of the tot variations and all were good but relatively small portions at $7 a pop. And at the end of the day, they're tator tots. Drinks were underwhelming. I had some version of a White Russian that was pretty bitter, maybe as a result of the rice milk that was substituted for cream? It just seemed like a drink that nobody taste tested before putting it on the menu. A friend got the Bobby wasabi, one of the more interesting drinks, and it didn't taste at all like wasabi which was disappointing. Why put an interesting ingredient in a cocktail and then completely hide the taste? Food/drink misses aside, the main complaint I had was that the bouncer was NASTY. One of the most unpleasant interactions I've ever had. We tried to use the restroom inside and he was so rude and aggressive with us we were completely taken aback. We stayed for one round and left. I was so impressed with this place! In a neighborhood of swanky cocktail bars, Bandits is definitely a new favorite. I started with the "rice Russian," a coffee cocktail that is both parts rich and boozy. The five spiced rice milk was served in a separate little container, like ordering cream for your coffee at a diner, which was a cute touch. I also got the flat head high ball. I have no idea what acidulated orange juice is, but it was delicious. The staff here is so nice. West village bars are full of aloof, too-cool servers, but everyone here was so friendly and accommodating. They were able to squeeze us in without a reservation on a busy Friday night and seat us at an outdoor table on the corner. They also got us inside just as it started raining. I haven't had anything like it , you can't really taste the wasabi strongly but it adds a nice spice. Oh boy, the guys at Garrett are doing it again. It seems like they are taking advantage of the COVID graveyard and opening up new joints a dime a dozen. Listen -- I won't crap on them for that. At least they're opening places. I rather have a gimmicky bar than nothing at all. (BRING ON A VACANCY TAX!) With thing returning back to normal, I was very eager to continue my indulgent hobby of seeking out overpriced cocktails. We booked a rezzo for two on the second day they were opened. This place is where Daddy O's used to be. (RIP) Tables have a 90 minute limit. This seems to be very common post-COVID. There have a decent amount of outdoor seating. One section was completed and full decorated. The other is still under construction. We arrived at 4pm for indoor seating. The place is interesting. It's 70s themed -- but done very tacky. It's the poor man's version of The Honeywell. While the 70's was inherently tacky; I feel like the theme could be excused if you actually invested in the idea. (IE: The Flower Shop) Bandits does it very half assed. The wood finish looks cheap, the bar lamps are out of place, "let's just throw in a disco ball in because it seems like the right thing to do.", and the plexi-glass is...actually I'll leave that alone. Maybe it's a COVID thing. Enough about the decor, let's get to the drinks We ordered five. - Signatures - Truth or Pear: Lime Juice, Rosemary, Pear. Chile de Arbol & Pasilla pepper mezcal, dehydrated blueberry salt. Bobby Wasabi: Pineapple, Wasabi orgeat, Green tea shochu, Sake, Cucumber, Shiso, Wasabi pea salt Lola Bunny: Lemon juice, Toasted Cumin Seed, Carrot Juice, Parsley, Rye, Angostura Bitters, Scotch Rinse. -High Ball - Flat- Head: Acidulated Orange Juice, Grand Marnier, Vodka, Soda - Everyday Tiki - BDE (Big Drink Energy): All the rums, oloroso sherry, absinthe, lemon, pineapple, toasted coconut, sesame. Loads of thoughts, First, who designed this menu? Why do I need hunt down which spirit is in my drink? Why is liquor often buried in the middle of a list of 40 other ingredients. Second, why are these drinks so overly complicated?? Acidulated Orange Juice? Scotch Rinse? Cold Brew Vodka? Wasabi Orgeat? Don't make me laugh. All of these ingredients to what...Hide the average quality of their cocktails? It reminds me what they're doing over at Getaway and Listen Bar, two non-alcoholic establishments. Complicated & unique combinations to make *NOT* drinking seem interesting. While that works for them, it does not work at Bandits. The Bobby Wasabi comes in a cute glass but is entirely underwhelming. I love wasabi. I want to TASTE THE WASABI! Flat-Head, let's call it what it is a a glorified Screwdriver. (I do appreciate the pun though.) BDE, just vile. Lola Bunny, there is a time and a place for a scotch rinse but if there is so much going on in the cocktail already, what is the point? What is the point is the theme of this menu. I want to be able to taste intricate details of my drink. There is so much going on, the drinks become a bland mess. The best drink of the night was the Truth Or Pear. The dehydrated blueberry salt rim truly did add to the double chili mezcal. The whole thing was disappointing. Maybe my expectations were too high. The experience was not BAD. Just forgettable. While the drinks were the low, the staff was great. Helpful, patient, nice. They brought the atmosphere. A massive thank you to our waiter who allowed us to return or BDE after 2 sips. "Life is too short to drink something you don't like." Best quote for Summer 2021. Bandits could be better, I would be curious to see what their fall/winter menu is like but for now it's a meh from me. And, I haven't even touched on the $14 dollar pickleback. After seeing this place on tik tok I knew it was time to go eventually. This place takes reservations so my friend made one in advance and good thing she did because people were getting turned away! The vibe is 70s themed and the music is old school. I went for dinner and drinks kind of early so I'm not sure if people dance (it's a bit of a small space but the music is too good). I got the burger (it's fine) and tator tots (wayyyy too salty), the shishito peppers with everything but the bagel cream cheese smear is surprisingly delicious, and as were the cauliflower and sweet chili dip. My drink was okay and my friends cucumber wasabi drink tasted like honey mustard. The drinks were too complicated for my liking and the food was so overall a bit too salty as well. I'd like to come and try other foods and a more simple drink. This is a definite place for vibes, maybe a cute date, and a drink. Overall food drink was meh for me but the aesthetic was everything. Come for the 70s nostalgia, stay for...legit everything else?? After seeing multiple people post and rave about Bandits I had to go. Went for afternoon brunch, and had such a nice time. We made a reservation in advance, but there were definitely walk ins available for inside and out. The host and waitress were both incredibly nice and accommodating. We took advice to order the fried chicken sandwich and were SO glad we did. To our surprise it came between griddle cakes. It was incredibly good, with a lot of flavor.
