Came here for a happy hour with an organization. The bar is pretty narrow with not much seating. The noise level was very loud and I couldn't hear any one talking so I wound up leaving early. The org put out some apps that I tried, including the pizza. The pizza tasted like frozen pizza at the grocery store and not like New York pizza. I didn't get a drink because it was so crowded. The bathrooms are downstairs and require the use of stairs so they are not accessible if you have mobility concerns. The bar was clean so I'll give them credit for this. My friend suggested we try Linen Hall as it was near her apartment and we were extra enticed by the happy hour. We called ahead and got a reservation, which I highly recommend, and got a table outside. The tables were a good size but fairly close to each other. However I really enjoyed the overall vibe of the inside/outside set up and the floral elements sprinkled throughout the restaurant. I ordered the Mezzi Rigatoni and the Sweet Like Sugar cocktail. The drink was full of flavor and I loved the sugar rim but definitely on the stronger side. The pasta was absolutely to die for! The texture of the pasta coupled with the tangy sauce made for a delightful pairing. The chicken was tender and juicy and overall this dish was absolutely amazing. Our waitress did a great job giving us space to have dinner and chat while still being attentive. The menu can be a bit on the higher side but they have an AMAZING happy hour! Different occasions where I've come here: - First dates on week nights - Date nights on week nights - Happy hour with friends in the summer, sitting outside in the warm weather - Happy hour (all night) with friends on a Sunday night - Dessert on a Sunday afternoon It's situated right next to Penny and there's a door that connects the two businesses. I usually order disco fries during happy hour to go with the wine. It keeps me full for a couple of hours and then I can go for a proper dinner. Wines during happy hour are $5/$6. The only issue is that it gets REALLY noisy and you need to half-yell to be heard. But on week nights it's quiet and relaxed. Came here for a private event where the entire place was booked out. The place was bumping, the attendees were having a great time, and I satisfied my hunger and got my fair share of drinks. The bartenders where very pleasant to interact with. They were very tentative to everyone and helpful with suggestions. The food they had out were good, despite it being catering style. I spend a little over $18 including tip and tax every time I go, and that's only because I always order steak and 2 eggs any style. The steak is a little chewy for medium rare, but well spiced. Overall it's quite filling. Brunch at least also comes with a free drink (I quite enjoy their orange juice!), and though orders usually take about 20 minutes to arrive, service is pleasant and you get a large bottle of water so that you can refill yourself as needed. My husband and I were staying nearby and looking for a place to watch the second half of the Eagles game. The first bar we walked into was packed, so we revised plans and came across Linen Hall. It's attached to The Penny Farthing, its sister restaurant. That place seemed to be a little more crowded and Linen Hall, but the latter had a decent crowd at the bar and a few tables of people who were afternoon brunching. We grabbed the last two bar seats and perused the menu. There were brunch and lunch options available. There was only one bartender, and she was super sweet, but it made for slower service. Brunch entrees were all fairly basic, but I loved that they came with a complimentary brunch cocktail - yes! The bloody mary was simple but did the trick. I opted for the breakfast burrito which was a perfect size - not too big, not too small - and came with a side of home fries with lots of peppers and onions. My husband had chicken parmesan sliders which he enjoyed, and waffle fries which he luckily shared. I tried a mezcal/tequila cocktail with grapefruit and really liked it - I ordered a second, in fact. The second had a teeny tiny fruit fly that had made its way into the drink. Not the best find but easy enough to flick out. I don't know that I'd go out of my way for a meal here, but certainly wouldn't be opposed to one. We ordered the avocado toast and the burger. The avocado toast was cooked to perfection. Two warm pieces of toast (with a perfect crust with just the right amount of olive oil) with quite a large helping of avocado with a perfectly poached egg on top. It was delicious!! Made to perfection! The burger was outstanding as well, classic burger and was extremely tasty as well. Linen Hall brunch is the place you want to eat, post-crazy Friday nights. Coming in, it looked so fancy. It's January so all the elaborate Christmas decorations are still up. I was certainly expecting crazy prices for brunch, but I trusted in Yelp. And boy was I right, the brunch is under $15 and for that, you get so much. The classic steak and eggs literally includes steak, eggs, toast, salad, and a drink (alcoholic or caffeinated - your pick!). I had ordered the smoked salmon Eggs Benedict - which was the best thing I could have eaten that weekend. The hollandaise was so perfect, the poached egg cooked to perfection, and of course, you can't go wrong with smoked salmon. There was also a side salad - very tasty with light dressing, and home fries which were nicely seasoned with cooked peppers. Absolutely amazing place for brunch for a good price and good atmosphere. They also have a huge bar and an open space, which seems pretty good for the Union Square night life. I would only take off one star because it seemed like the waitress was a not interested in serving our food, taking our order, etc. She also had a bit of an attitude, but that doesn't take away from the great experience I had here in terms of the food. Quieter and more welcoming than its sister bar next door, The Penny Farthing, which just seemed too young, loud and rich for us lot of crotchety old NYers. Ordered one round and a side of fries (which were excellent) before our show. The bartender asked for a card "just to start a tab," and told us we could pay however we wanted. Seconds after we said we didn't want another round, out came the bill with the card charged, which was a bit awkward given that there were six of us and were planning to split it. But oh well, mistakes happen. Laziness, osmosis, simple lack of creativity... whichever it was, a few of us wound up coming back after the show. I unfortunately forgot the GW Bush mantra "Fool me once, shame on you, fool me... won't get fooled again," because again, after specifically clarifying that we didn't want the card charged, after 2 rounds, the bartender came back with a charged card for my friend to sign when no one had even asked for the bill.
