I've been coming here for about 15 years, so I guess you could say I'm a bit of a local. Anytime I get the chance, I pop in sometimes for a drive, sometimes for a walk, and occasionally even a round of golf. This week alone, I drove in twice with my beloved Maggie . Both times we were greeted by a friendly young woman at the guard post who smiled and waved, which honestly set the tone for the whole visit. After a lovely walk and lunch at the amazing Ghost Tree Grill, we stopped on our way out to chat with her. I've never really seen anyone stationed there before, so curiosity got the best of me. I asked her all kinds of random questions about the trees we'd seen, the nature around the area, and whether she'd eaten at any of the restaurants. She was genuinely happy to answer everything I threw at her. Her name was Azer. Having someone at that post who's warm, welcoming, and willing to answer even the silliest questions really matters it makes the whole experience feel more personal. We spent 5 days enjoying the many activities Bandon Dunes has to offer. We started on the Bandon Dunes course. It was beautiful and a great way to get a feel for what's to come. With some holes near the ocean and some inland, it provided a links style course. Lots of sand, open fairways. The next day we did Bandon Trails. This was more inland. Only the first hole had views of the ocean. The course was tighter than the others so accuracy was good. It was the hilliest and toughest to walk. I took a day off but husband golfed Sheep Ranch. We walked the first hole later that night (after the golfers were done) so I could see it. It was much flatter and more open than any of the other courses. You can see the ocean on every hole on Sheep Ranch. Whales were blowing water nearby. Very pretty. Next day was Pacific Dunes. This one was my favorite. It had lots of ocean views. With more par 3s, it was a par 71. The holes were beautiful. Our final course was Bandon Preserve which was a par 3, 13 hole course. What a great way to practice in real time on your short game. Again, stunning views. Forward tees were all about 5000 yds which was a good distance. I played some of my best golf and was able to reach many greens in regulation so I was very happy with the distance and layout. Green were in great shape. We took advantage of the practice facility before rounds. The pulled pork sandwich near the range was a delicious lunch. We also played the Punch Bowl several times. It was a great way to end the day with a cocktail and a casual experience of golf. We ate at all the major restaurants and they were excellent. Rodney was my caddie and he rocked! He knew the course well and was a huge asset to my game and experience. Everyone we encountered was professional, helpful, welcoming. I can't wait to come back. We had so much fun! read more

Courses got too expensive and after new experiences, I come to find out that the hard working staff is paid unlivable wages. The caddy's have to pay to work there and the owner is busy living large building all kinds of new courses all over the world. I strongly believe in boycotting businesses like this until they can both lower the green fees by a significant amount and pay the staff wayyyyyy more. If some of that money needs to come out of the billions in profits the owner makes, so be it. No more getting rich without your loyal and hard working employees getting a little piece of the pizza. Won't be back because I and everyone there knows that businesses almost never do the fair and right thing. read more

Wow this place is amazing. I stayed in January as a single and got to play 2 18 hole rounds. I started out at Sheep Ranch and then got to play Old McDonald. Both courses were in great shape but took a little while to figure out how to hit on the short grass fairways. OMG the views of both courses were spectacular. Stayed at Chrome Lake cottages. Really liked the set up in the rooms. It almost has two bathrooms. The 2 huge glass doors that open let in lots of fresh air. If you are a golfer this is a must do. A little spendy but well worth the memory's. Ate at Ghost Tree Grill. Had the Wagyu striploin. All I can say is meat butter. Drool!! Go do it all you won't be disappointed. read more

A true golf destination/bucket list!!! I came here in a group of 12 for 5 days and we were treated to awesome golf courses, great food/drinks and excellent customer service. From the moment we stepped on the property, we were afforded every accommodation and consideration. My golf experience was enhanced by having a caddie who was knowledgeable, friendly and great company. He learned my game after a few holes and was having me hit shots that kept me in the game. I highly recommend asking for Panther the caddie. He's somewhat of a celebrity there but he's just a regular guy. I agree with PF's review. I visited mid June 2024 and the greens are in awful shape. My local muni's greens were better cared for and rolled more true. This is indeed a Mecca of golf, with stunning course architecture and scenery. The course maintenance crew has one job. Keep the grass and greens nice. At the fees charged and considering the difficulty of making a booking, you'd think this would be top priority. The quality of the courses was inexcusable. This was our third visit and we all noticed a significant decline in the quality of the upkeep. Also, we were all unimpressed by the new course, Shorty's. It varies from 40 yard pitch shots to 140 yard carries. Some greens are placed only 20 yards from tee boxes, so you're either waiting for the group in front to finish teeing off or risking hitting them. The tee boxes are already shredded and sandy. There is no beverage stand on the course. Only snacks and canned drinks at the shop, which is a glorified shipping container. The whole thing seems like a half-effort to just collect more greens fees from golfers. Our group agreed it was the resort's first real "miss" with the things they've built. read more

Absolutely phenomenal golf courses at Bandon Dunes--I can definitely see how they are consistently ranked as some of the best in the world. I had the opportunity to play Bandon Trails and Pacific Dunes and both were beautiful and challenging in their own way. The service from staff members was also top-notch. Bandon Trails is off of the coast in a forested area. Lots of trees to deal with and bunkers in the middle of the fairway that makes tee shots a bit tough. That said, the fairways are very wide off the tee, so you have a solid chance to put the ball in play. Pacific Dunes has a lot of holes right on the ocean, so you can probably expect a fair amount of wind, which can be quite the challenge, especially when you are hitting into it. While the fairways are also wide here, there is a ton of gorse that can gobble up golf balls. Both courses have lots of bunkers built of of sand dunes. They're beautiful to look at, and aesthetically add picturesque value to the courses, but beware, because they often are deep, sloped, and have patches of grass built into them--they can really hurt your score if you are in them frequently. Additionally, both courses have very undulated greens roll very smoothly. They can also be challenging. Absolutely loved my time at Bandon and will be sure to be back! As a heads-up, know that you have to walk here to play--Bandon doesn't have any riding carts or allow them on the golf course. read more

Pacific Dunes was in my top 3 courses played at Bandon! Again, all of these links courses having stunning views, pristine conditions and immaculate maintenance. My caddie guided around the course like a pro and I was able to hit my lines and sink the putts for a personal best score! Have been to the resort numerous times since 2002. Played 3 rounds during the first week of June this time. Be warned that the greens at Sheep Ranch, Bandon Dunes, and Preserve are in bad shape. The say it's healing from spring maintenance, but it's far from that. The greens are pockmarked, and scraped bare on the majority of the greens. Truly sad to see as I brought a group of friends with me that hadn't played at Bandon before. It certainly isn't worth the fees they require, but even if they charge a fraction of the current fees it wouldn't be worth it. Having played all of the courses all I can say is they simply have to do better to get me to come back. Golf is what it's all about. And the course conditions should be the #1 priority at this mecca of golf. read more

We drove from Portland, about 4.5 hours southwest, arriving at 1:00 pm to get acquainted with the resort and warm-up. Unfortunately, their infamous Practice Center, approximately 50 acres in size, which has two full practice ranges - one for hitting north and one for hitting south - a one-acre practice green, and two short game practice areas (Day Guest Passes are just $10), was closed for the US Amateur. We were told that the only other practice range was out at Sheep Ranch, the furthest course from Pacific Dunes, so we decided to bypass warming-up, big mistake, and headed over to the equally acclaimed Punch Bowl putting area, a massive 18 hole putting-only course with tee markers, large bumps and deep swails, and plenty of frustration. Do not fret though, the actual greens are treacherous in the own right, but not nearly as sadistic as Punch Bowl. The wind was blowing out of the north at 25-30 mph, sustained, all day, so the rather short par-4 1st hole was playing close to 400 yards. The holes going north were playing two to three clubs longer and the ones going south were one to two clubs shorter. All of the holes at Pacific Dunes run parallel to the ocean, so there were relatively few cross wind shots unless you put yourself in that position to the green. All of the holes are surrounded by sand dunes, long native grasses, the odd tree of bush, and loads of gorse with four holes, 10 and 11 heading north and 4 and 13 heading south, nestled atop the steep cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The fairways are relatively wide, but the natural undulations of this links course can toss your ball into one of the many bunkers and other hazards along the way, even on the best shots. Some of the bunkers are so deep and treacherous that you are better off taking an unplayable lie, biting the bullet by taking the penalty stroke and saving yourself even more frustration and a much higher score. There are also numerous tiny bunkers scattered about, making for challenges to your backswing and/or follow-through, so prudence might require you to pitch out sideways or backward rather than advancing your ball toward the hole. The undulating fairways and numerous hazards require a plan, but there are relatively few blind shots on this course, so what you see is pretty much what you get. You definitely need a caddy at St Andrews because of all of the blind tee shots, but we did not hire caddies at any of the three courses we played and did just fine. Some advance planning will do you good as there are detailed descriptions, photos, and yardage on their website for all holes or you can purchase yardage books for all five courses at $10 each or $40 for all five, money well spent in my opinion unless you happen to have a former Bandon Dunes caddy master playing with you. You'll almost always have a good lie if you find the fairway, although you will likely have a side-hill lie of one sort or another. The fairways are firm and consistent throughout all five courses, but do not expect thick, lush, green grass because this is a links course and plenty of roll on the fairways is part of the challenge and fun. The greens are massive and fast, some with large undulations, but most with subtle breaks, so distance control and good lag putting will do you well. I am a decent putter and I had little difficulty reading greens and hitting good lag puts. You may even find yourself so far away from the hole on these massive greens that only a chip will get you close to the hole. The greens have no collars because the grass on the greens is the same grass and mowed to the same height as the fairways, so your Texas wedge may very well be your best option around the greens rather than risking chunking a pitch or chip to a tight pin. Finally, the greens are so fast that the wind does affect the ball, so make sure to add another 10% to 20% more oomph into the wind, and vice versa, as well as taking it into consideration on the break in sidewinds. Good luck! All in all, the views at Pacific Dunes are incredible, the land rough and rugged, but beautiful, and the course very challenging, but fair, unless the weather fails to cooperate as it did on this particular day. I play to a 13-handicap and floundered on the front nine, partially because of the headwinds on five of the nine holes (1,2,3,6, and 8), but mostly because I teed-off without striking a ball and understanding what I had to work with that day. I shot a 14-over par 50 on the front nine, but finally found my game on the back, shooting a 7-over par 42 for a total score of 92. I was not displeased with that score considering the difficulty of the course and the wind we had to contend with all day. I doubt if I would pay the normal $345 green fee to play 18 holes this time of year, but the discount rate of $155 or, for that matter, the $215 veteran's rate, is a definite TravelValue! Speaking only for the service and accommodations: mediocre! Check-in was completely a do-it-yourself, figure-it-out-on-your-own deal - no one waiting outside to help and not even a friendly 'welcome to Bandon' at the front desk - I've had FAR BETTER check-in experiences at budget motels. I spent all day traveling to get here and Bandon clearly doesn't care. After the uninspiring check-in, you call a shuttle and then load your own gear onto the bus - the driver opens the door and that's it - and then drops you somewhere in the vicinity of your room. Then the door opens and you're told to unload your gear and haul it in the dark to the room. Good luck! After visiting Spanish Bay/Pebble earlier this year, I am blown away at the stark contrast between the two experiences so far. At Pebble THEY took care of EVERYTHING...at Bandon, YOU do it. The rooms here (Chrome Lake) are spacious, dated and rustic - way beyond their prime and with a musty smell to boot. It's all another lesson in: you get what you pay for. I have three days of golf coming up and that will be the focus. It better be if you're coming all the way here, because everything else I've experienced so far is blah. ++++update++++ Sure enough the golf courses, pro shops, caddies and restaurants were spectacular. Of course it goes without saying that the golf is incredible!! But we went to Bandon Dunes Golf Resort with our husbands this time, and we were pleasantly surprised by how enjoyable the trip was for us non-golfers. All of the staff was super friendly and accommodating throughout our stay. The rooms aren't overly fancy, but they are very comfortable and spotlessly clean. We enjoyed all the restaurants - Forge was a highlight - excellent service and we were impressed by the steaks we ordered, they were delicious. The hiking trails were another nice surprise! Golf heaven. The weather is unreal. My rankings in terms of courses: Bandon Dunes - cannot beat the sunset on the final 3 holes. Simply breathtaking. The original is still the best. Old Mac - we got lucky on a windless day. The course is fun, doesn't eat balls, lots of really creative holes, and is just a really amazing links experience. Pac Dunes - ocean views all day. Sheep's Ranch - ranked here for me because we had rain the entire 4 hours and wind. I was miserable. Super fun still. Brandon Trails - the hardest in my opinion. Unforgiving. Lots of challenging tee shots. Totally different from the other courses. Hotel/ food Can't complain. In COVID world we had to dine in room. Hit the Asian themes - good poke bowl, and then just did the pub the rest of the days. Meatloaf still tops hands down. Also pecan pie is to die for. Note - staff amazing, caddy services made the experience so much better especially if you're playing 36 a day and it's rainy and windy. Their course knowledge is unparalleled if you are visiting and not a local. Also there's two Tesla chargers at Chrome Lodge which is clutch. read more

4.8 Stars because we met a grouchy starter on our last day at Pacific Dunes Course. Would have been 5 Stars otherwise. Make sure to note this is a WALKING course only. I believe you can get a cart if you have special needs, but call ahead before locking in this trip. Bandon Dunes is a true golf getaway. Find out if there is a stay and play package. We played the last week of February, got 3 rounds, 3 nights stay, 2 Breakfast buffets, 2 dinners for $700. The breakfast buffet is very generous and of very good quality, juices and coffee included of course, I would rate it $24. A super way to start the day. The dinners were of great quality, entrees themselves were about $35 and non alcoholic drinks included. Shuttles in the morning pick you up outside your lodging to take you to the course or practice facility. Practice facility is top notch. Of course, part of your green fee. Tons of stations and huge putting greens. The rounds were maybe $105 each, but would gladly pay $150 even for late February. We played Old Mac, Bandon, Pacific Dunes. True links along the Oregon coast is unforgettable. Huge sprawling fairways, even bigger greens. Better learn how to hit low stingers or the wind will destroy your shots. Some winds require 3 extra clubs, I am a 10 hdcp. Missed out on Bandon Trails of which many swear is their 2nd favorite track on the property so will definitely play it next visit. Skip the Bandon Preserve. Totally overpriced at $50 for 13 Par 3 holes?? I get that it goes toward preservation/nature funds, but that is way too much. It definitely is scenic, but I would way rather save the $75 and use it on a replay round of any of the other courses for $55!!! Each course has a unique and diverse pro shop. $700 package is a total steal calling us back for more. Prices may vary, but I would pay more for this experience again no doubt about it. read more

Trails doesn't get the respect or admiration of the other courses here like Pacific or Bandon Dunes, but I really like this course. It's inland so it doesn't have the stunning views of the Pacific ocean like the Dunes courses, but it has as many, if not more memorable holes. Plus, since it's inland a little bit it's protected from the wind that can make the other courses so challenging. This is a great golf course within the Bandon family and should be part of any trip here. read more

Beautiful courses along the beach! We were treated with amazing weather--partly cloudy to sunny in the low 70s with the calmest winds (according to the staff and others in our group). My boyfriend played Pacific Dunes in the morning, which was a gorgeous course! It was $275 for the round (price with lodging). The staff is very friendly and shuttles are available to take you around the resort. We loved it so much that we stayed for another 18 at Bandon Dunes in the afternoon ($140 replay). The ten minute gaps between groups was great for a 4 1/2 hr. round pace. We stayed at The Inn, which overlooked the 18th green--a great treat! The king sized bed was AMAZING and the blankets were of great quality. We had the best sleep ever! (Playing 36 holes could have added to it, too.) The shower had good temperature control, towels were soft, verbena soap was wonderful, and the basics were there (tv, fridge, wifi, coffee/tea). Again, friendly staff. I took a trip to Bandon Dunes Golf Resort a couple of weeks ago when I was on break from school. This has always been a bucket list item that I have wanted to do my whole life. Bandon Dunes features 5 amazing golf courses that are ranked in the top 20 in the U.S. I had the chance to play 3 of the 5 courses. Bandon Dunes Bandon Trails, and Pacific Dunes All three were stunning and offered their unique challenges. Bandon Dunes is a links-style course that offers unique challenges but has an incredible ocean-side view on most holes. The fairways are wide and each hole is very open, but the greens are where the challenge comes into play. Bandon Trails is in a more forested area that is more inland than the other courses. The fairways are also very wide but there is not as much room to spare because of the trees on both sides. Pacific Dunes has many holes right by the ocean, so expect windy conditions that can be tough, especially when hitting into the wind. All three courses were phenomenal and were in top-tier condition. The views on the course are unmatched and you will not find this type anywhere else. My time there was amazing and I will be making a trip back. read more

This has been my 5th time at Bandon Dunes. Went there as a 4-some the week before Thanksgiving. Food and service in the resort was poor. Marshals and outside staff was unprofessional. Inside staff very courteous and attentive. Lodging at $220 per person, thus $440.00 for a double room per night is outrageous for such an accommodation (lillypond). Bandon Trail greens were mostly dirt. Overall, it seems they have grown to be too large to uphold past quality standards - definitely slipping. Then there are a bunch of drunk hackers holding up play, yet the marshal will be on you, seemingly to simply show that they are present. However, they cannot move along play because these are wealthy drunk hackers. Sadly, Bandon Dunes has become the equivalent of a fast food experience rather than fine dining. It used yo be world class but no longer! They do still charge world class prices though. A complete disappointment! read more

If you are a golf fanatic like I am, you must make the pilgrimage to Bandon Dunes resort. It truly is the Mecca for golf. There are five regulation courses plus one par three course of 13 holes. They are all amazing courses and have their own character for sure. The most fun we had this week was on the par 3 course because you could play as many people in your group as you wanted. So we played as a six-some had a great time drinking beer and enjoying our evening. This course does not have golf carts so you will need to walk and I would highly recommend getting a caddy because you will not know where to hit the ball and play these courses without their guidance. There is nothing to do at this resort except play golf, eat, drink a beer and then go to bed and do it again the next day. The place is extremely well run. The service is great. The folks that work there are extremely helpful and they have this place running like a well-oiled machine. Save up your money. It's not cheap but definitely go to Bandon Dunes! read more

All 5 golf courses are spectacular and any of them could be your all-time favorite. We (my sons, grandsons and a family friend) were there last month and played 36 holes each day for 3 days (average number of steps per day 30,000). The weather was great - no rain, sunny (in the 60s) but wind was definitely a factor particularly in the afternoons - gusty to 35mph on Sheep Ranch and 25-30 on the other two days. I can't say enough about the quality of the golf courses. You go there to play golf - period. Everything else is a distant, distant second to what you will experience on the courses. The resort was great - service, food, accommodations, shuttles, staff were all outstanding. We can't wait to go back and we will. read more

Class act all the way. This is a golfer's paradise for sure! My husband and I started our ten year anniversary trip here and it was spectacular. In my humble opinion, the best place to stay is the Inn in a golf course view room on the first floor if possible. It is a short walk to the main lodge where Bandon Dunes course, pro shop, The Gallery, Mckee's pub, the small but nicely appointed fitness center and the massage center all converge. There are other accommodations, but most require a short shuttle around the expansive property and none have a golf course view like that of the Inn or the Lodge. The caddies here are tremendous and they pair you with one for your entire stay. Bandon was completely playable and a great first course to play. The links style play was new to me so this was a good opening round. By far my favorite was Pacific Dunes which has been ranked as high as the number 2 best public course in the nation. It offers stunning views and a course that will challenge the best players. The wind and bunkers are formidable but it is also quite playable even for an average golfer. Finish off your round with a cocktail or two and the 18 hole punch bowl. Then sit by the fire on the deck of Pacific Grill. And make sure to head to Bandon Preserve for the unique 13 hole par 3 as a warm up round. Service is amazing. The shuttle will bring you everywhere you need to go. This place comes with a price but the value for incredible golf, impeccable service and terrific gourmet food options all on property make it a must! I cannot wait to come back. read more

My husband played Pacific Dunes and loved it; scenic and technical, overall a beautiful course. Everywhere we turned was great hospitality from the Pacific Grill to the Gallery restaurant and the pro shop. They even shipped back a blanket that I had left in the room free of charge. I enjoyed hiking trails and soaking in the hot tub while my husband was out on the course. We had fun playing the punch bowl putting course together. I would definitely recommend to golf lovers out there, this is a bucket list course. read more

5 stars because of the spectacularly beautiful setting with 4 uniquely amazing golf courses. This is a must-see destination for golfers and the place is 100% dedicated to golf "as it was meant to be" (as their slogan says) with nothing else to distract (or entertain, if you don't happen to be a golf fanatic). We played with two different caddies (Al was terrific, the other guy--not so much). It was a nice luxury for $100 to share a caddie but it certainly wasn't necessary to enjoy the difficult courses. We didn't use caddies for three of our five rounds. We had to transfer rooms during our stay which was inconvenient but it allowed us to experience two different accommodations: A Chrome Double and a Forest Double at The Inn. The Chrome Double was larger, like a townhouse without a kitchen, and it was surrounded by a lush green forest. It was peaceful and deluxe in a sort of Scandinavian way. The queen beds were terrific. We spent one night in a slightly less expensive Forest Double room at the Inn and it was more like a motel room, albeit a nice, spacious, clean one. The shower an jacuzzi tub in the Inn room was superior to the one in the Chrome room. The Inn is walking distance to several courses and the Lodge (where you eat breakfast) whereas the Chrome is a three minute drive or ride on the free shuttle. The food at the various courses was very good, especially at Pacific Dunes. Get the fish sandwich or the bratwurst and onion rings. (I wrote a separate review of McKee's Pub). As for the golf, Trails was grand and spectacularly beautiful. Pacific Dunes was too scenic to be believed and it's understandable why it's rated as the #1 or #3 best course in the US. Old Macdonald was extremely interesting as it is apparently the finest recreation of one of the old links courses in the UK. There is very little difference between the fairway and the greens, and the recommended play is often to putt, sometimes from well over 100 feet from the hole. Bandon Dunes, the original course, was easily our least favorite, though it was still very nice and had a few spectacular holes. But it had a few duds, unlike the others. The condition of all the courses was very good. The customer service and friendliness of the staff from start to finish was exceptional. Also, even though you're isolated at the resort, you don't feel like their trying to always make an extra buck of you. The major downside of a trip to Bandon Dunes is that it is quite possible you could book your trip in advance (as you need to) and then arrive only to endure horrible weather the entire time--in which case, you basically can't enjoy the golf if you dare to play. We had unexpected torrential rain (merely an "Oregon mist" our caddie called it) and we had to stop after 13 holes. And despite having rain gear, we were soaked and unhappy. Fortunately, the next three days were fine, two of them glorious. All in all, despite the remoteness and inconvenience of the place, it's an adventure that every lover of the game should go to at least once. I'd like to return. read more

OMIG!! THIS IS GOLF HEAVEN!! I felt like I was in Scotland...ok... I have never been there but it looked like pictures I had seen. The first night we arrived, I went out to the greens and started petting it...ahahah! It was so soft and perfectly manicured. I wanted to roll around in the fairway overlooking the ocean too but probably not appropriate. Pacific Dunes was to die for!! We had decent whether (like 1 or 2 club winds which was supposedly normal) and the course conditions were KILLER! Bandon Dunes was great too. If you're looking for a less difficult course and don't want to loose balls, this is the course to play. Didn't loose any on Bandon Dunes and lost 2 on Pac Dunes. Don't get me wrong...They are both Tough! The greens were like super ICE so practice before you go out. Caddy is key as the course is very tricky. Watch out for the GORSE!! If your caddy can't find it, it's history....just pull out another. They just started a flight from the bay area directly into North Bend. The drive from Portland to Bandon is about 4 hours-4.5 hours as you have to drive through a bunch of small towns. If you get stuck behind an RV even longer! Totally sucks! If you have the chance to go, GO!!! This place is pretty much for golfers only. There is really nothing else to do, unless you like a country casino about 20 minutes away or you like exploring tiny towns. I saw a couple ladies who didn't golf hanging in the clubhouse all day and they looked VERY VERY BORED! They do have free wireless everywhere so if you must go and you don't golf bring your laptop. My caddy was saying that 98% of the golfers there are men. COME ON LADIES!!! Food was alright but after the beautiful rounds of golf I don't really care about the food. read more
