Delicious food and beer! Located right along the store fronts of Banff city center, so perfect stop for after a day of shopping. The tasting room has a wide variety of beers, from traditional lager to IPA to stouts to sours. I ordered the Raspberry Sour beer and loved it! It was the perfect amount of tartness and sweet, while also being refreshing. For dinner I ordered the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich. It was probably one of the best buffalo chicken sandwiches I've had. The chicken was breaded and amazingly crispy, but fell apart as soon as you took a bite. The lettuce and tomato were fresh and helped balance the heaviness of the dish. The bacon was cooked perfectly to be a little crispy but not too hard. Even the blue cheese dressing was wonderful and not overpowering. The bread was homemade and had nice seasoning too. On a late Tuesday night 7/5, my friends and I headed here because most places were closed by 10:30pm. We were starving and we needed to eat so we came across this place and it did not disappoint! They had a late night menu that was pretty diverse and also had a wide range of drinks too. We got some wings, some nachos, and also some huge pretzels. Everything was pretty good. I'd say that the wings (Jamaican jerk) flavor was different than what I had expected bc I expected a bit of a spice but instead it was very sweet. Overall though, it was a positive experience. The staff and the beer are great... but come on.. the Poutine was not good. And that sucks cause it's what i came here for specifically. How hard is it really to make a poutine? You Drop hot fries on a plate, cover in cheese curds, pour flaming hot gravy on top to melt the cheese. This is literally all it takes! Not this one.. This poutine had cold cheese on top of barely warm fries on top of barely warm gravy. I'm guessing the overall rating of 3.5 is a mashup of temperamental tourists, some off nights, and people who just don't wanna get down with what Banff Ave. is doing in this world-class destination. THIS PLACE IS LEGIT AND ALL OF YOU HAVE BEEN PUT ON NOTICE! For starters, be impressed by the fact they have a HUGE tap list comprised of mostly their own brews, along with a couple of guest handles too. They're cranking all of it out of a 15 Barrel system in one of the smallest and tightest spaces I've ever seen, and we're not talking one or two styles either. The list covers every style imaginable, and even includes some unexpected combos. Beers are offered in 12oz, 20oz, and even 32oz sizes! But Michael, what if you don't drink beer? I'm so glad you asked Michael! I actually don't drink beer anymore (health reasons) so I was really stoked when I discovered the spirit flights (rum, gin, scotch, etc.) including a rather impressive round of 6 scotches, served in 0.5 oz pours. We're not talking garden variety either. $22 CAD may seem steep, but it's totally worth every twoney! Now that you're boozed up, let's talk food! This place has some AMAZING bar food! On Fridays they do a food happy hour with half priced "appies" as Canadians call them. The chicken wings are an absolute must! I was skeptical because they said they were breaded, but holy wow, this is the lightest, thinnest, crunchiest, crispest "breading" I'd ever tried. It's likely a light dusting of flour and cornstarch to be honest, but I'll simply refer to it as magic. We ordered the Korean BBQ, unmistakably made from a base of spicy fermented soybean paste called gochujang, AND the Soy Lemongrass, which was so freaking tasty! In addition, we nabbed the fried pickles which were, again, impressively fried in a cracker like batter that added both texture and flavor to it. The pickles were crisp and tangy, and the garlic aioli dip was the perfect compliment. Really the only miss were the "buttered" pretzels. Buttered is in quotes because that's the only reason these weren't great. The stout beer cheese and whole grain mustard dips were delicious. The pretzels were soft, chewy, and salty, but the butter just added an unnecessary greasy element. I glanced at the rest of the menu and it all looked delicious. Sandwiches and burgers came out of the kitchen and I wanted every one of them, but was so full from all these goodies I had to pass. SO, NOW DO YOU SEE WHY BANFF AVE BREWING IS A FIVE STAR SPOT? The food at this pub/ bar is solid. For bar food, it's delicious and a great option. In Banff, there is a limited number of places to eat at and on our 3 different visits to Banff, it's a go-to spot to watch a game (Raptors, Superbowl and even the Olympics this year) and grab grub after a day of skiing. They have a whole ton of TVs and many facing a table so you are able to request the game you'd like most of the time. All you could want and more from a brew pub! A ton of unique beers on draft, great specials (we were in on a Monday for $3 pint day), a solid bar food menu and great service. We liked Banff Ave Brewing so much that we even stopped at their sister brewery in Jasper. To drink I stuck with the red ale and really enjoyed. For eats we started off with poutine (when in Canada) and it was delicious. I mean, what can really be bad about fries topped with cheese curds and gravy? I like how the fries were thin and crispy, I prefer that to thick steak fries. For my main I went with Korean BBQ wings. Sweet, tangy and plump! An order was huge and I was barely able to finish half. My dudes ordered a burger with a fried egg on top and a side caesar salad. I didn't try the burger but the caesar was amazing and had a ton of fresh bacon in it. Very indulgent, but delicious. Our waitress was sweet and friendly and had a ton of awesome local suggestions for us. Overall, this is a super cheery restaurant with great beer and easy to please pub fare. Great, great spot in the heart of Banff! We loved their beer so much we came back twice! Once was for dinner, once more for some beers. For dinner, I had the buffalo chicken sandwich with poutine (!) as my side. The buffalo chicken sandwich was large, and had a lot of chicken, which was delicious. I wish it had a little bit more flavor, whether it be hot sauce or bleu cheese dressing. The poutine was out of this world. I would go back and just get the large appetizer of poutine as my meal, without question. They had just about every type of beer you could want. I really enjoyed the red ale, and my wife loved the kiwi kolsch. The staff was great, and they have great outdoor bar-style seating on the second floor. Our assigned server didn't show forever (no acknowledgment for 15 minutes +) so another server stepped in to greet us and take our order (she was great). I had the fish and chips was was pretty good the batter was light and crunchy, two large pieces of fish, and I swapped out the slaw for their spring greens/vinaigrette. ( My boyfriend had the Elk Brewer's Pie- minced elk & pork, stout gravy, mirepoix vegetables, peas, corn, mushrooms, potato souffle. This was a yummy comfort dish. Seasoned well and hearty! Seen this place while we were in Banf and wanted to check it out. I had high hope's as there were plenty craft brews to taste. There is a balcony for customers to sit outside, first come first serve and there were no seats outside. It was a little chilly out there so, it was good we sat inside. Anyway, if you are able to get a seat it looked like a good place to hang out, people watch, have a pint and a snack or two. We ordered crispy Brocolli, poutine fries and onion soup. All was pretty good but, the Crispy Broccoli was not good to us...it just wasn't our kind of snack. I'm sure it would appeal to some customers but it was not for us. Decent place with good service and good food. The menu was a little dirty and you all know that is an issue for me. I'm sure this place gets busy but there was nothing special about this place to me. Had a great time at Banff Ave. Brewing. We were quite hungry and thirsty and we left thoroughly satisfied. I had the Blonde Ale; my husband had the Coconut Cream Ale and the Stout. I had the Mighty Mountain salad and added salmon and it was fresh and DELICIOUS! Perfect for this hungry hiker. My husband had the spaghetti and meatballs. The pasta and sauce was tasty, a bit spicy but the meatballs were dry and over cooked. Wonderful female server-forgot her name-but she was attentive and sweet. Told us "Cheers" often. Traditional pub atmosphere in a scenic location, with a rather impressive drink menu and taproom. With a party of 8, there were 3 burgers ordered; one bison, two Berta beef. All three were absolutely just burned. Service staff's response was, "That's how burgers are done here." So, unless you like $20 charcoal on a bun, steer clear of the burgers. The chicken skins weren't worth ordering and the guy that ordered the elk bolognese didn't really care for it either -- and this definitely isn't a picky group. Came to this spot after the recommendation from a local park ranger that was about our age 25ish. This was our first stop in Banff so sitting outside and being able to overlook the town while enjoying a beer after a long day of travel and hiking didn't disappoint. My friend ordered a flight of beer to be able to try a little of each and as an avid beer drinker she said that about 1/2 of the beers she would order to drink. She said that beers were each okay but nothing that really packed a strong punch of flavor. I personally loved stouts and was looking forward to treating myself to one but of course the stout was the only one they were out of. I went with the coconut blonde ale and it was good but also a bit watery. After our drinks we ended up ordering the poutine and seared tuna tostadas. The poutine was good for my first one ever but my friend said that it was on the lower end of quality and flavor. The tostadas was not that much food and was super simple with just tuna and some chips and some diced tomatoes. Honestly, both food choices were not that impressive- I even forgot to take pics bc I just wasn't impressed. The service was good though. Classic Banff we got a young Australian kid that was very conversational with us and wanted to know where we were from and what hikes and adventures we were going to do in the area. He even dived more into our respective hometowns to talk about his travel experiences in these places. Overall, service and atmosphere was the best part of our experience. But as with many of Banff's bars and eateries, prices are quite elevated for what you actually get. Happy hour brings some reprieve in the food department, but there are no drink specials at that time. Friends and I enjoyed the hot pretzel appetizer at a recent happy hour. A serving is basically 3 stadium pretzels, glazed with some sort of herb spread and served with a delicious welsh rarebit-ish cheesey dipping sauce and a small cup of grainy mustard. You could easily split a single order among friends and be carb-satiated for the day. The "nachos for 1" is also a huge serving that could definitely accommodate more eaters. Wines by the glass are solid, and run in the neighborhood of $10+ each. I was also interested in the bison chili, but at $24.50, it was a bit too rich for my blood. If you're looking for proximity in this center of town, plus space for a crowd, this place is decent bet. read more

On my second time, we ordered the Korean BBQ wings, seared Tuna tostados, nachos is for 1 with guacamole, and crispy fried broccoli. The wings were really small and over cooked. They gave us 12 pieces. The nachos portion was big and more than enough for 2 people. The crispy fried broccoli tasted like very crispy and melted in our mouth. The texture can be a little odd but the sauce underneath was really good. Our favourite was the Seared Tuna Tostados. The Tuna was a thick cut and it had coleslaw, tomatoes, mayo, and cilantro on homemade nacho chips. We ordered a wheat beer and it was called the "Tribute Tap - NORQUAY 93 HEFE". They do a pretty good job of a fantastic salad. Arugula and kale topped with a seared duck breast! MMMmmm... and Bacon vinaigrette!? YUM!!! Poutine was delicious! How can you go wrong with french fries, curds, and gravy!? Second night, we ordered the pork chop and the duck salad again. Pork chop was cooked medium well; it was still pretty juicy for such an overcooked pork chop. Definitely was nothing like Nopa SF's but was acceptable. It came with a maple syrup sauce. She was pleasant, but she wasn't really that attentive. She dropped off a carafe of water for both her convenience and ours which was nice, checked on us once, but other than that, her service wasn't memorable. She didn't suggest any meals until we asked, she didn't ask if we had any questions about the menu, and when ordering, she really didn't give us any "other options". I only throw this in because we overheard a table next to us who had a different server get tons of options of sides, etc. Not a deal breaker, but customer service is what makes a place memorable. This place, with my experience, lacked it. FOOD My friend and I shared the POUTINE and added the slow cooked egg ($2 CAD) and the bison chili ($5 CAD). I probably could have done without both, but we figured, we'd go all out and just try it. I've never gad a slow cooked egg before, but I'm gonna assume it's not supposed to be served cold on a piping hot dish. I could be wrong. Our egg whites were runny (disgusting) and the yolk was soft boiled, and what bothered me other than the snot-like runny egg whites was the cold yolk. It was weird and threw me off. The bison chili was fine. Nothing memorable, except maybe the slightly off after taste. I ordered the ELK PIE. It's basically a shepherd's pie, but with elk meat. The flavor of the meat was basic. Nothing fancy, nothing bad. Just basic. They OVERLOAD the pie with potatoes. The ratio is WAYYYYYY off. I had about a half an inch of meat and about an inch of potatoes. I had to dig deep for the meat. Pretty annoying. I don't think I can justify paying $24 CAD for some mashed potatoes with a small side of elk pie filling. My friend ordered the ANGUS STEAK (medium rare). I didn't get to taste this, but she said it was just "ok". It seemed to have been cooked properly though. The sauce on the plate she said is basically barbecue sauce (which is strange to serve with a nice piece of steak, imoh). -- OVERALL Not a place I'll be returning to on a future visit to Banff. Banff Ave is JAM PACKED with pubs, so there are plenty of other options. read more

They are ruining our holiday. My 16 year old daughter has had celiac disease for 11 years and can not have gluten. We know we take chances when we eat out, but almost always it has been fine. In past 11 years we have had 3 incidents and a few tummy aches. But the reactions from those last about half a day. Well not from Banff brewery. She ordered a Caesar salad with chicken and no croutons. Talked to waitress why. Waitress was excellent. We got our food and as my daughter was eating she found bits of croutons in it!! Our waitress wisked it away with many many apologies and a good dose of being horrified. The manager gave us a vague apology without even looking at us. Now we expected her to get sick but she has now been throwing up sick for over a day!! We are almost at 48 hours since the meal and she is feeling only marginally better and still not eating. We are in Banff for 4 days. She has not been able to go skiing which the reason we came. They did not charge us for our entire meal but it does not seem like a good trade off now. So this was a family meal with my sister, brother, wives & other. I picked the placed based in part on Yelp reviews. For me this place was a joke. The food was only average. I had the soup of the day which was beef/potato & a regular house salad. The waitress (Lisa) was not good at her job. In fact she got my salad order wrong THREE TIMES!!! How do you mess up a salad...3 times!! Can ya tell me that?? And to top it all off...they STILL charged me for the salad. The pretzels and cheese were soooo good, you get 3 super hot and buttery pretzels per order and they were amazing! They were out of nachos when we went but my hubby loved his Korean fried chicken.
