Lovely light lunch at Earl's. It was hard for us to decide what to eat, the menu is big and has something for everyone! Although Banff had been so crowded the day before it was much more bearable today and that plus the odd hour of our eating made it easy to get a table downstairs in the bar and have prompt service. It was lunch and we wanted to eat light so we ordered a couple salads. They were great! It's a sports bar and they are set up for crowd and fun and watching whatever there is to see, but today it was about a break for a light lunch. They clearly can handle whatever crowd and whatever festivities come through their door. So when you're in Banff, looking for a place to eat, don't pass Earl's because you think it's only a bar. The service is amazing. The atmosphere is good. The views are glorious bc it's situated in Banff Downtown. We were really full but this place came highly recommended so came for a salad. The chicken was a bit dry and too salty. It was difficult to eat bc it was too salty. We told the waitress and she was so sweet she Asked if we wanted the chef to make us another one. We said no but appreciated that they were taking our suggestion. She took the chicken cost out of the meal. We didn't even ask her to do that. Went for dinner with family and ordered the following items below: Tofu Lettuce Wraps: 2/5 I suggest more tofu and a dipping sauce. Felt like I really just ate a ton of lettuce and a pinch of tofu. Very healthy taste but not a good taste. Vegan Avocado + Corn Street Dip: 1/5 chips were good, the dip however needs work. I didn't eat the cheese as I wasn't sure if it was vegan or not, but the avocado needed a kick or salt to help it taste like something. Margaritas: since it was happy hour, each margarita was two $2 off the regular price. Honestly the margaritas were the best thing I ordered. The passion fruit margarita was amazing!!! The pineapple margarita was okay. My family member's enjoyed their streak and crab cakes. Presentation was great! Overall, if I were to visit again I would try something different. Didn't expect much from this place when we walked in, more of a mindset of finding something to eat after a day of hiking and be able to sit down and finally rest. We had a local beer, yuzu lemonade, and pulled chicken clubhouse, they were decent. The surprise is sushi taco with crispy tofu. We stopped here on a rainy day for late lunch and so glad we did. We got a table immediately on the upstairs dining room where all families are seated. The seating and ambience upstairs is very cool and liked the vibe of the place. We got a couple of chilled Stella beers and they were fabulous. For the food we ordered a few items and liked them all. For kiddos we got the street chicken tacos, margarita pizza, chicken fettuccini with Alfredo. They all loved the items and relished them. For adults we got street chicken tacos, crispy prawn sushi tacos, mother earth bowl and dynamite sushi roll. Wow all these items were so tasty, fresh and aesthetically pleasing to see. My wife, child, and I came here while exploring Banff during happy hour. We sat on the second floor and they were nice enough to let us order from the happy hour menu from the dining room. Apparently it's typically for the bar only. The food was pretty good overall. We had some wings, steak frites, and the angry chicken wrap. My wife really enjoyed the wraps and the Earls Margarita was great. I ended up order more than one margarita. The wings were good BUT meat on the bone wasn't much to offer. We did however ask for the sauce on the side which was accommodated and appreciated. One big flaw which I see in other reviews was the steak. I'm a medium rare kind of guy and the steak was charred pretty excessively. Steak was essentially medium well with char. I didn't make a fuss about this and ate it nonetheless. Our waiter was also very attentive and polite throughout the experience. He provided good recommendations for us. I don't remember his name but he was tall with curly hair. The overall vibe of the place was nice and calm but I'm sure gets busy at the bar and upper level. Location is nice as well in Banff. We didn't know this when we came but when we were looking at the happy hour menu we were happy to find that it had a lot of the same items as the full menu but at a cheaper price. I think each dish was a few dollars cheaper. Also, our waitress was kind enough to wait until 3 to put in our order so we sat around for almost 20 minutes just looking at the menu. We eventually chose drinks that were not on the HH menu so she took those first and even took our food order beforehand so she could put it in immediately after it turned 3. A+ for service! For drinks, my parents ordered the two non-alcoholic drinks. One was a calamansi-based drink and the other was yuzu-based. I ordered a calamansi paloma and it was amazing. All the drinks were super refreshing. For food, we ordered the dynamite roll, the nashville hot chicken sandwich + fries, the bigger better burger + fries and the salmon zen bowl. It came with mashed potatoes, a piece of garlic bread, and the a seasonal vegetable that happened to be asparagus - which i love! My steak was cooked exactly how I asked it! My husband was on a keto diet while visiting so we had to be selective with the menu. They have a couple beers that are brewed by Earl's which were decent but the cocktails were much better. My husband ordered a very good old fashioned. The staff was nice and the space was modern and trendy -- yet i did not feel under dressed. We continue the quest for the perfect happy hour. Earls comes pretty close. The happy hour plan is very good. The bar has their part down pat but the kitchen did not execute as well as they could have. Our bartender was Paul and he was very good. We appreciated that he was there when we needed him and not when we were eating and talking. The atmosphere in the bar area was so comfortable we never made it up to the dining room. The chicken taco were tasty but the kitchen overlaps them and so there is filling for 3 and there is one tortilla without much on anything in it. (Sad face here). The wines were yummy and we took advantage of the 6oz and the 9oz pour, red and white. We tried the steak with coconut shrimp and it was good. The steak isn't the best quality. It was seasoned well but chewy. The stars of the night were the garlic fries and the Cesar salad. I am not sure what the sauce was for the fries but order extra when you order the fries. If you do it will help prevent you from fighting your partner for the dregs. It wasn't pretty. The Ceasar salad was fresh and crisp. Just what we needed to finish out our happy hour dinner.
