My first visit originally went well. We were able to confirm an appointment for the vaccine that I needed but had troubles finding anywhere else (canine-influenza). We came in that morning and got the vaccine needed, and was FORCED to get the rabies vaccine despite the fact I confirmed he had a scheduled visit with his primary vet to get this vaccine (where its also cheaper). today has been the worse visit. we just needed one vaccine booster. one needle poke. it's taking over 4 hours. I can understand a wait due to business, but 4 hours for one booster? Not to mention they tried to convince me of other vaccines that I already provided for my dog at his vet. read more

My dog is almost sixteen years old and we've been going to Banfield and have had the wellness plan for most of his life. If I knew then what I know now I would have never signed up with them. With a young dog you go in for your regular shots and don't think anything of it but when your dog ages its a different story. Last year my dog starting having some troubling episodes where he would lose his footing and seem like he was having a seizure. I took him in to be checked and spoke with the receptionist who is not trained in diagnosis but just paperwork. I explained his issues and she decides to start at xrays.. ($700).. After showing the doctor the videos I have taken and explaining his symptoms her recommendation was a cardiologist. Mind you this dog is 15 years old at the time and was noted on the record by them that he had a weak heart. I asked what exactly would be the point of that visit? To find out $1000 later that he's an old dog with an old heart that we already knew about? They play with your emotions to rack up costs as a dog parent instead of being practical regarding the age of the dog. She said there was no other avenue besides this one so I relented and spend $500 for a mobile unit that came to their location only to find out...wait for it.. he's an old dog with an old heart. The next suggestion was a heart monitor.. Really? And what exactly would be the point of that so I said no we are done.. My dog's symptoms went away as fast as they came on with no explanation (or follow up by Banfield to see how he was doing). That was when we made the decision not to reup the wellness plan ever again because it really is not true insurance and you are just prepaying for services and if your pet dies you still have to pay towards the end of the contract. Last week I was looking at his records on line and saw that they made an appt for him today January 28th for a visit. I figured ok I will go in one more time to get our last visit that is covered under the current plan year since the plan renews next month. When I went in today they told me that the plan ended 5 days ago. Imagine my surprise (or not). How convenient then that they made the appointment for a date after the plan ended. They couldn't make it for a day 5 days ago so we could get the last of the plan? No the trick is for you to come in and be forced to renew the plan if you want service. Goodbye Banfield. To anyone with puppies, I suggest you to go a private vet or animal hospital. This is just a money making racket and not the best service either. read more

This company and its cancellation policy are pure evil. I tried to cancel in November and they charged a fee for the cancellation. Then they told me it didn't cancel because of the balance due to the cancellation. I have talked to several people who have out and out lied and told me the fee was due to an office visit, but they could not give me a date or details of the visit. We always pay in full so I knew they were wrong. These people who told me this on 2 separate occasions hung up on me when I asked for a copy of the visit. So I got a letter that said this was going to collections when I thought I was done with them. I checked the bank statement and saw they are still charging for the monthly and never canceled. I call and go through the whole thing again. Do not ever deal with this company. They are simply out to make a buck and will take it however they can. read more

After I came back from the store, I found that he was very quiet in the nest. I thought he might be sleepy, so I didn't notice his unusual quietness. At night I brushed his hair and found a whole bone on his chest that was dark red with a bruise at the end. It's exactly like a bruise from being hit by something heavy or being kicked. Then I called the front desk right away the next day, but no one answered. I want to say that if you guys accidentally hurt him while examining him, you can fully explain it to me, I might can understand, and then we will further deal with his injury. But you keep your mouth shut. If you despise animals so much, don't care about animals so much, and hurt them at will, why are you working here? Please don't be a veterinarian. They have really fallen far....I have been a "plan" member for 10 years! They used to have vets that enjoyed what the do- and staff that cared. 5 or 6 years ago I left Laurel location because I felt the quality of care went beyond a level to which I was comfortable with- and didn't want to have my dog treated there. I switched to Maryland City-and it was like a breath of fresh air. The doctors seem generally to care about me and my dog- then Covid. Ever since I can't come in to appointments with my dog it's gone down hill. I'm beginning to wonder if my dog was even seen by a vet!? The last two visits they take my dog in- then it's- see ya! I would think that the doctor would have called or spoken with me about any concerns I had, or if my dog had any changes in her health- nothing- after the exam- nothing. She had her boater shots etc- they forgot to give her her Benadryl before her shots! And I had to ask them if they gave it to her- I called a few days later-and asked if the doctor would call me- Still nothing- and the topper! I just got a reminder about my dogs appointment and not to feed her because she needs anesthesia! For what? I'm still waiting for a call from the doctor- especially now if they scheduled her for surgery! For what???? It's time to find another dr on the plan-?or maybe just end the plan? they have benefited from me and my healthy dog- for 10 years- enough is enough. read more

I called to make an appointment for my female dog. The receptionist rudely informed me that there are no appointments for the next 4 weeks. The problem my dog is having needs more immediate attention but not quite an emergency. When I stated that we need something sooner she was unsympathetic and when I said I will call somewhere else she rudely said ok good and hung up on me. This is second time dealing with this Banfield and the second time the receptionist are rude and unprofessional. They have no people skills and look unprofessional and dirty. read more

I wish I had never gotten involved with Banfield. They lured me in with the "wellness plan" and I felt like since they were a big practice I could trust them. Big mistake!! They have a one-size-fits-all approach to veterinary care. They will give your pet every vaccination under the sun without consideration for the potential risks and benefits to your pet. They will vaccinate against things your pet may never even be exposed to where you live. Not only that, but they will give your pet multiple vaccines in one appointment which puts them at risk for side effects and even death. Also they will push horrible nutritional advice on you. Royal Canin and Science Diet are bad foods that are disguised as healthy and with a big price tag. It's not worth it! My vet at Banfield recommended Royal Canin for my dog and he had persistent diarrhea because of it. Talk with someone who really knows nutrition or better yet, research for yourself before making any decisions about your pet's diet. You think you might be getting a good deal with the wellness plan but they jack up the prices on everything else you have to pay out of pocket, like perscriptions. If you take your dog in for a minor ear infection, expect to pay big bucks for multiple perscriptions. They are in business to make money and they don't care about your pet! Do yourself a favor and find a real vet that will treat your animal as an individual instead of following a corporate plan to give every pet the same "wellness" package. Banfield helped me learn a valuable lesson about reviewing every single charge on my credit card statement. I was paying monthly for the wellness plan automatically charged to my credit card. They were double billing me for almost a year! I'm surprised I didn't catch it sooner, but it also made me wonder what was going on at their end that they were able to overlook it. I called the customer service line and within 5 minutes the person was able to assure me I would be refunded what I was overcharged and the money was refunded in a matter of days. read more

This place doesn't even deserve one star. I made the mistake of taking two of my pets there and will never do it again. I agree with the other reviewer, the wellness plan was a rip off. They had two owners on file so they charged us both. When we tried to cancel, they insisted it was (canceled), but they still continued to charge us both. They refused to refund us, not even one for the double charged account. Of course this is already after all the medical incidents that should have been our instant red flags. They misdiagnosed both pets and I was charged over hundreds of dollars for something that wasn't even wrong with them. They make you get all this vaccinations that I later found out were never needed. I took a rescued animal there and expressed my concern of one the animals eyes. The extremely rude vet said "I think I would know better then you would" I decided, enough was enough! Got a second opinion and found out that the animal has cataracts. This morning I was to drop off my baby at 7am, I arrive at the store and people are standing outside. Apparently whoever had the keys, didn't make it in to work, so the employees of the store, myself, and about 4 other pet parents stood outside in the cold waiting for 35 minutes for someone to arrive with a key. The staff turned out to be really nice and comforting... Otherwise I would not have left my Lexi with these incompetent people who can't even get into their own stores. read more

Their prices are ridiculous (especially since there's a much better vet with lower prices right down the road) and they always try to convince you that your pet is dying unless you spend a grand every time you come in. The staff Amber and Doctor Brown are truly wonderful professionals. They took my dogs care very serious and helped him feel comfortable. Wonderful Banfield! Jocelyn and Dr. Jones were so wonderful as well. They eased my anxieties and comforted me the whole time. I couldn't have asked for better medical staff. God bless the staff!! Okay, I admit, the plan may be a ripoff, but I've had a dog before, and it's definitely easier to pay like, $25 a month for all the vaccinations than one huge lump sum. Besides, all the shots are only in the first year. Anyway, all of the vets I've had are very patient and thorough in answering my (many many) questions. Well, all except the one vet... I don't think I'm allowed to name since Yelp will probably filter this review. I took my 3mo old puppy there because there was a rancid odor coming from her ears and when I asked him about it, he glanced at them and said she was fine. A month later I went back to a different vet who immediately noticed my puppy had a severe ear infection. It cost me nearly $200 and my poor pup unnecessary discomfort/pain. Needless to say, I always request not to be placed with him. I will say though, all the female veterinarians are great. read more

I paid $1000 for an x-ray, antibiotics for $275 that they told me I could not get from anywhere else they HAD TO be in house and which I ultimately found out was missing one pill. I had to take time off work AS A NURSE to go back so that they could properly fill my prescription bottle! They claimed the antibiotics that were prescribed for his pneumonia would not take care of his ear infection and that he would need ANOTHER, DIFFERENT treatment for that. They chose the most expensive antibiotic and least effective!!! I ended up having to take my dog to the emergency room anyway where he has been prescribed different yet more affordable medications, and they've discovered he was misdiagnosed by them and was not prescribed the right course of treatment!!! DISGUSTED to discover that I wasted $1000 on this place only to spend another $3000 at the emergency room AND to find out that nothing they told me or prescribed was correct!!!!! My baby is spending 2 days in the ICU after I wasted a week following their diagnosis!!! I absolutely felt like everything they did was about $$$, they tried to up sell me dog food, cleaner, treatments he didn't need, and just anything they could do to run up my bill rather than actually take care of and help my poor dog!!!! SAVE YOURSELF THE MONEY AND SAVE A LOT OF DISCOMFORT AND PAIN IN YOUR BELOVED PETS AND GO SOMEWHERE THAT ACTUALLY CARES ABOUT ANIMALS AND NOT JUST MONEY!! Let's be honest, Banfield makes all of their money through their "wellness plan" that most pets don't really need. The wellness plans are great however, if you have a newborn pup or you've acquired a rescue dog for instance and don't have a records of vaccines. It saves money on initial vaccines for puppies, such as deworming. Under the Wellness plan, you can also have your animal spayed or neutered for "free". I took my pup to a local Spay Clinic in Laurel and for $85 I had the procedure performed, an e-collar and pain medication to take home for my puppy. After doing the math, I realized it is much cheaper to simply take your pet to a well respected vet and pay the out of pocket costs because in truth, the $35-$40 you're having automatically deducted from your bank account every month adds up, and it adds up to waaaay more than what you would pay out of pocket at a routine and trusted vet. I feel that Banfield is no more concerned about your pets as they are with trying to up charge and make fake recommendations for your pets for meds and vaccines they don't need. If you miss an routine vaccine BEWARE, you will be charged and arm and a leg for "boosters" because supposedly after 2 months, "the regular vaccine won't have any effect on the animal". Huh? Really?!? I called to cancel my wellness plan with them and they continued to charge my account. After I noticed this and attempted to settle with them, I closed my account to stop the automatic with drawls from coming out of my account. After 5 months, someone called and stated that I owed over $200 because they had attempted to charge my card but to no avail. I politely explained that they could kiss my assets because not only did I call you months ago to cancel, I hadn't owned the pet that they were charging me for, for months. The only thing I really enjoy about Banfield is that Ms. Juliette (who works at the front desk) always remembers me and my puppies, even as they have grown over the years. She is also very personable and gentle with the animals. Too bad she is only the receptionist and not one of the vets or vet techs... in which case I would ONLY allow my babies to see her. read more

This place is HORRIBLE! Don't ever take you cat there. Please save your money. Their plan is awful and they overcharge. They give your animal vaccines that is not needed and add on fees. My cat was a rescue animal. I haven't even had her for a week. They ran all these unnecessary test and gave her treatments that she already had. They will convince you that your pet is dying then charge hundreds of dollars. Come to find out, since she was a newly adopted rescue I could have gotten all my treatments for free from their partner company. Both PetSmart and Banfield knew this, but overcharged me anyway. Never going back, such a horrible place. I wish I never went to them. They are more concerned about money than the health and love of your animal. This deserves negative stars!!! Ive been taking my pets to Bansfield for years... and have always been patient and understanding when THEY run late...keep me at an appointment for 2 hours because the vet is running behind. I was understanding when THEY kept my pet locked in a crate for 12 hours...she was brought in at 7am for a dental cleaning appointment and I eas anle to pick her up at 7pm... I would call every 2 hour ti check in on her and the excuae was they wanted yo watch her longer. 12 hours longer please...THEY Kept her 12 hours because THEY were running behind over booked. NOW today ...... was not the day to be assholes.. i had a dental cleaning appointment for my pet.. we ran 10 mins past 730am. Drop off is between 7a-730a. I get there and was told they cant take the dog because its after 730am. Then proceed to tell me that if we are late for a dental drop off they won't be able to take your pet. I have never in all the years of coming to Bansfield had I heard of such a rule/policy. So i asked the techncian where was this so call policy noted and why aren't we told of this strict rule when the appointment is made and during the reminder calls.. Their RESPONSE...IGNORE the fact that Im standing there asking these questions and was simply trying to reschedule me. When I asked if she plan to answer my question again Im ignored. Finally after asking the question several times she tells me that she doesn't have an answer. So I told her that was better than ignoring your customer. The patient board..a board with all the pets being seen that day is by the check in desk..it was completely full. The fullest I've ever seen it. So it appears yet again they have over booked and they make up rules to accommodate THEIR needs. They dont have rules when they inconvenience the customers. Thet don't have rules when they lie and tell you the weight scale doesnt work because they are trying to rush your cer care so tge rule is provide half ass vet service..so you can't weigh your dog in order to receive the appropriate heart worm dosage so they prefer you come back because again THEY are running behind. The scale worked when we tried to weigh my dog at check in but it didnt work hour later. The reason dor having to weigh my dog again was because at check in my 86 lb dog is scared of the scale. So we were going to try again when my son arrived and could pick him up. And then all of a sudden the scale is broke because again their rule ..lie and get them out of them out because they have other things to do. So it appears that BANSFIELD IN LAUREL... YOUR RULES AND CUSTOMER APPRECIATION AND INTEGRITY SUCKS BALLS!!! Stop operating a vet service mill and operate with a higher level of honesty and customer service.. and integrity... if you have rules make it customer appropriate and be consistent and apply them to all customers because its a policy and ensure the customer is fully informed. I have changed my care from the Laurel Banfield to Columbia but they are terrible as well so now I'm looking for a new vet. When we first got our puppy last Aug, I chose to bring her to Laurel Banfield even though there were closer locations to me. I loved the vet we saw and the staff was always nice and friendly. I was told by the vet at each visit to wait to spay my puppy until she went into her first heat. Apparently she has an issue with some internal organs not where they should be. I was told if I had her spayed prior, she would probably have UTIs for the rest of her life. So we decided to wait as it was thought after her heat things would swell and drop into place. She will be 1 in June...she still has not gone through her first heat cycle. I was told to bring her back when she was 10 mo as we had completed all of her shots and we were just waiting for her heat cycle. I received a call from a rep to schedule her spay several months later. I told her we were waiting as recommended. The rep was insistent that this i bring in immediately. At the appt the vet (all new people this time) was basically like well your puppy plan is almost up and if you don't have her spayed before that time you paid for it for nothing. It's not extended and it doesn't matter what anyone told me. She basically laughed at me when I told her what the normal vet had said. she then went an googled it...I know this because she brought me the print outs. She said well technically what the other vet said was true but your gonna lose that service if you wait. She said she probably went through heat and I just didn't know it. And she said well we are doing this so if probably occur in the future she may need a specialist but we aren't worrying about that now. So I scheduled for May 19. I was given the paperwork and instructions. On May 16 i received a call from Banfield asking if i wanted to schedule my puppy's spay. What?! I told her it was scheduled for Friday and she said no that was just a suggestion. What?!?! I have the paperwork and instructions. I told her I had to rearrange my entire work schedule for this appt and she just told me "well I'm sure you can change it again another day!" Really!!?!? Absolutely not. I called Columbia Banfield and they offered me Thursday. I chose Sunday but called back 15 mins later and was rescheduled for Thursday 5/18...or so I thought until this morning when I got a confirmation email for Sunday. After calling I was told the appt was never put in. I am done with Banfield. I will find a new vet. Apparently I did waste my money with the puppy plan but will NOT make that mistake with the next level plan. Employees are incompetent apparently at ALL Banfield. read more

Absolutely worst vet experience. I brought both of my dogs, which I always do for vet appointments. I have been to various veterinarians in NY, Philadelphia, and Maryland - including a different Banfield location. No one ever made me wait as long as this, not even a regular doctor. I was there for two hours when I specifically did not even want an office visit. Each dog just need standard vaccinations and tests. The shots, themselves, only took about two minutes total for each dog. Yet, the nurse came in and I could tell she was just sitting there and killing time. If you're short staffed, just tell me. Don't stall. What a waste of time. Didn't tell me anything new. I told them my dog had a few lumps and the response was, "Oh yeah, I feel the lumps." The doctor (Dr. Jones) didn't apologize for the wait and had absolutely no bedside manner. They were not helpful at all. At the end, they asked me to wait even longer for the heartworm test results, but wouldn't give me a paper prescription and send that whomever I order from online could just contact them. Then, why did I have to wait 20 minutes extra for heartworm test results? No one has ever made me sit there to wait. They usually just let me know of test results by phone or email. WORST PLACE EVER. I have no issue with Banfield in general. I will go to the other location next time, for sure. read more

I would not give them one star if possible. First, they push their insurance on you. I signed my one cat up under the insurance plan and made monthly payments directly from my credit card. Well, my card on file expired and no one called me to request the new expiration date (which I would have been happy to give had I know this had happened). This caused me to be less than two weeks behind on my payment. Well, when I took my cat in to get neutered first I had to wait at the door for the store to open because the person with the key arrived late. Then I had to wait for quite a while someone checked a very long line of people in. The lady doing the check in was horribly rude with absolutely no customer service training at all! Finally, when it was my turn to check in the lady announced very loudly "You have a past due payment on your account! Your account is delinquent. You need to pay your bill before your cat can be seen!" Now, I told her that I wasn't aware of this and we figured out that they just needed the new expiration date for my card which I gladly gave her to correct my bill. I asked her if she didn't mind lowering her voice since I was standing right in front of her and that the whole store didn't need to hear our conversation. It wasn't as if I wasn't trying to pay my bill. She then continued to announce loudly that I was still delinquent and wouldn't receive service if I didn't pay. She was so disgusting that a few other customers even said to her that she was being rude. Two customers even left without checking in their pets. I asked to speak to her manager about her attitude. The manager was no better and didn't see the big deal. Well, I think that if you can't treat a customer with common courtesy and respect, I can't trust you with my animal when I'm not there. I will NEVER return or recommend this place to ANYONE!! Besides, there are two other veterinary hospitals close by that offer the same services, personalized attention, a caring staff and prices that are half the cost! read more

Worst experience ever! I called and asked if I could walk-in without an appointment, the girl on the phone told me yes, it would just be a little wait. I arrived and they told me that I would be waiting to see if anyone cancels but that if no one cancels that they wouldn't see me! Are you SERIOUS!? I asked to speak to the manager on staff, they said she was gone for the day. I asked to speak to the vet they said "she" said, she was too busy to speak to me. This is what you call a walk-in? So rude and disrespectful. The receptionist (Carmen Walters, or something like that) was extremely rude! Apparently that is the type of service you get at Banfield. In short, I arrived at 5 pm and they closed at 7 pm and waited for two hours and they told me sorry, no one cancelled, do you want to make an appointment and you can come back aother day!? I stressed my cat out for TWO hours because someone there told me to come in and then they play me off. Unreal!!!! Banfields need to shut down and let REAL veterinary clinics, that actually care about their patients, continue with the proper care of pets. This place is a joke! If I could give negative stars, I would. Please save your stress and the stress of your pet and go to an actual vet office. A while ago I took my cat to Banfield (Laurel, MD) for shots; it was OK and not too expensive so when she got an ear problem I went back. They said she had a fungical and bacterial ear infection and gave me meds for her with a bill total of $300. My cat had an allergic reaction to the antibiotic medicine and so they told me to bring her in. I told them I wanted to change the antibiotic to Clavamox which she tolerates well. They said they only had the pills and would have to crush the pills and put them in a solution. I said fine, because I did not want to go too long without medicating her. They left the room and came back and said they wouldn't do that and gave me a prescription and said I could have it filled at any pharmacy. I tried several pharmacies who told me that they didn't even have Clavamox in their database. I ended up going to another Banfield which had some in stock and I was able to obtain it. The total bill is now at $400. When I complained about the cost of the 1st visit and the $50 med which my cat was allergic to, they were very cold, and said they could not do anything about it. I couldn't believe that they would charge me for a second visit and refuse to provide me with the alternative medication or at least try to locate some. I had to go on a wild goose chase to get it. I have had 10 different pets in my life, and numerous ear infections. I have never had such an expensive one and have never had such appallingly indifferent treatment. And they still expected me to come back in 2 weeks for a followup? Are you kidding? I will take my cat back to Virginia to her old vet who is 3 hours away before I return to Banfield. read more

It does cover the preventative care that it describes but when there is some thing that is not covered they want to charge you an arm and a leg for the services. My shih tzu was perfectly healthy before going to Banfield. She got her vaccines and started having incontience problems. I took her back in and they did some urine testing and found nothing. Finally they came to the conclusion that she was have this problem due to being spayed later in life. So they prescribed her a medication called Proin to strengthen the muscles around her bladder. A couple days after giving her this medication she started to have trouble breathing, she quit eating, she was so lethargic that she could barely hold her head up. So back to Banfield we go....they gave her antibiotics for a respitory infection....this continued for 2 months......I had to take her some where else to learn that the Proin was killing her. Never not one time did Banfield tell me of these horrible side effects they also never suggested to take her off of the medication either. They just wanted to run tests and charge me a ton of money. I was watching my baby die and they did nothing to help her. Luckily the vet that I took her to was smart enough to stop the meds. Needless to say my baby is alive and ok but no thanks to Banfield. And when I called to cancel the wellness plan they wanted to charge me $684 to cancel! I will not pay a company that money seeing as they almost killed my dog! DO NOT TAKE YOUR ANIMALS HERE! Anyone considering using this hospital for your pet, I urge you to reconsider using this place. My fiancee and I decided to use these guys because we adopted a cat and it included coupons to this place which made it very convenient and close to home for us. The cat we adopted had tapeworms and we wanted to get it treated immediately. This hospital will nickel and dime you even for the simplest visits even when it is to check back up on the progress of their original treatments from a previous visit. If you aren't looking to spend over $500 on the simplest treatments such as an oral medication or a shot, find a local vet that has reasonable prices and spare yourself a horrific and expensive experience. God forbid your pet has serious problems, you may have to crack open your 401k to satisfy these vampires. Stay away! read more

I have been going to the Banfield in Laurel for a very long time. I used to take all my pets to a private vet in Laurel, but he charged so much I couldn't afford to take them there. I LOVE THIS BANFIELD! Dr. Brown and Dr. Jones are always so amazing, they do not try to talk me into the plans or overcharge me, and they have always given me and my pets such personal attention. They respond to my phone calls, messages and even emails when I have questions and cannot make it in. All of the technicians and the staff are so friendly to us and always go out of their way to take care of anything I need. I am so sad to see the other reviewers who had really crappy service there. It may have been when Dr. Jones AND Dr. Brown were both out on maternity leave, because things were bad when they were gone. I am soooo happy they are back and all of my pets are happy to see them too! As long as those drs are there, I will stay at this Banfield. read more
