How can you move my appointment by 1.5hrs and then cancel after 5min, and putting me on hold for 15 minutes. Beware -- do not bring your dog to Banfield Maryland City (Laurel, MD). I went on September 24, 2025, for a simple appointment of two vaccines, a wellness check, and a screening. The intake staff failed to properly process or verify what was supposed to be done, and instead gave additional vaccines just because their system showed they were due. I was asked to sign a blank "consent for treatment" screen and was not given any paperwork, which is not typical. My pet was even given Benadryl after being overmedicated, and yet Banfield still expects me to pay for everything they administered while trying to blame me. They were more concerned with charging me than with the safety of my dog and the potential harm he experienced. This is careless, dangerous, and shows a complete lack of accountability. read more

I had a frustrating experience with Banfield Pet Hospital MD City Plaza. I scheduled an appointment for my 2 cats on August 19, based on their reminder, and they only received one vaccine. I was later told on September 1 that they missed the rabies vaccine and needed another appointment. When I went back on September 2, they wanted to charge me twice for the oversight. After much discussion, they only waived one fee and still charged me $82.95. This was their mistake, and I believe I should not have to pay for it. Regular exams have been okay. However, when it comes to dental cleaning with sedation, for 3rd year in a row, they continue to call the wrong number while my pet is being treated. Today was the worse. I explained to the receptionist how for the past couple of dental cleanings they have called a number other than what I have specified. I was clear that I cannot bring my cell phone into work building therefore they'd need to call my desk from 8:30 to 1:30 and my cell if after 1:30. The receptionist typed these instructions into computer. I then wrote on bright colored sticky note and asked that she attach to my dogs paperwork since putting into computer for the past 2 years was NOT sufficient. I then wrote in 3rd place, on TOP intake form and actually typed call me in 3 more places in lieu of checking the box and provided the specific instructions about calling my desk yet AGAIN. I received a call from my husband long after the dental cleaning, that he had received msgs from Banfield. He is not even a primary and never did I provide his number. Then when i returned to my car AFTER leaving work there were msgs left on cell phone even though I had written in 3 places instructing about where to call. Here's the problem - by the time I could connect with a doctor, the dogs procedure was DONE. I was told that I would have to bring her back for extractions. There was never time to even determine best options since the procedure was over. FURTHER, I was told that I would need to bring her back for a "new dental" exam if she was to get extractions and that I cannot just bring her back for the extraction portion. I understand there is a high volume. I understand that ppl make mistakes. But the same oversight 3 years in a row now at my dogs additional discomfort and my expense. Even with insurance extractions cost over $1k. But to repeat the same type of visit with additional exam costs because THEY kept calling the wrong number should not be my expense. Not to mention I was told that I didn't list the numbers on intake form and I definitely HAD with explanation plus 3 other places due to prior bad experience. read more

We are Banfield OWC (their wellness program) members - so we had hoped that we could see by one of their vets when our cat (Turing) started to show signs of a UTI. Unfortunately, all of them said they had no illness visits available for weeks and referred us to an ER Vet. It cost me $400 to be seen at the ER vet since they couldn't make time for us in their practice. Although I am still annoyed by that fact, I give this team a star because when I called to ask for the emergency help and they said they couldn't, they followed up that evening to make sure we were okay. So we needed to schedule a follow up after the ER visit and we had to wait til mid-October to get in to see a vet. (Another Banfield location canceled on us last minute and we ended up here - mind you, we live in Silver Spring so this is a hike). The morning of the visit Turing was not in the mood to be around anyone. We were doing a drop off appointment (at 10am) and they said we'd hear back around 3pm. However, they recognized how stressed out he was by being there so they prioritized him and called us within an hour to come get him out of the space. However, he was very "spicy" with them so I don't know how well the actual appointment went. The vet I spoke with is very much into holistic care for pets with anxiety and recommended a behavioralist and some natural treats to calm his anxiety. I think we are going to drop the OWC program because if I can't get help when I need it and will still be out $400 I might as well just save the money I am spending monthly for this stupid program - but if we were staying, we would make this location our primary. We've been patients for two pets, 14 years. Our current dog was diagnosed with diabetes. During to the high turnover of vets, the doctor of Banfield told us we should go to another hospital which specializes in diabetes, to ensure continuity of care. We called the corporate office to see how canceling worked since we were members of the pet plan. We were told at the most, we'd be responsible for the monthly charge, depending on when we cancelled. We transferred to a new hospital and called to formally cancel Banfield. We ended up having to pay the balance of the pet plan! We wish the customer service rep would have told us, so we could have delayed transferring to avoid the duplicate bills. Beware! Not a fan of their approach. My cat had an urgent medical issue that needed attention, and this location had an availability the next day. The front desk staff were so nice and welcoming during check-in. Dr. Reid-Cover explained the problem to me, prescribed antibiotics and pain relief, and performed bloodwork. I was impressed with her professionalism, hospitality, and patience. This is my favorite Banfield location in the area. The staff and vet techs are always so friendly and my dog loves them, he follows them straight inside the clinic. I have seen various doctors at this location and they all gve me a call after the appointment to let me know about any updates with my dog. The only thing I will say is that making an appointment at this location is quite cumbersome, often the next appointment is only a month away causing us to have to jump to various Banfield locations if we have something that needs immediate attention. read more

This location is our favorite Bansfield in our area... especially our dogs' favorite. We have been blessed to have a caring staff here, because our pets are an extension of us. We have had good experiences here and our dogs are calmer here than the busiest area at the Pets Smart. The area is conveniently located and clean and the staff rock! I had to take both of my dogs into the clinic, one with a skin condition and one with a UTI. Shoutout to Brittnee!!! She went out in the rain to follow my big 120 lbs mastiff to collect a urine sample in a tiny round plastic dish ... now that takes dedication and patience!!! I'm a nurse of over 26 years and I would not want that responsibility! Her Spririt is calming to both pets and owners!!! She is a priceless treasure! Both my pets liked her and were willing to cooperate with her touch and voice! That is impressive and an asset to this location! The staff at the front desk are all personable and professional! The doctors are knowledgeable and empathetic. You can use Care Credit to help ease the pain of Vet bills. You can purchase dietary supplies, medication, and the cone collars.... plus I was able to get a cup of coffee while I waited for test results!!! They are tech savvy and you can call or set appointments online! Some locations have different hours but all medical records are connected ( I think) .... which is perfect for continuity of care! this place has always been alright in terms of vets but wow did I have an experience today. My sick puppy was seen at the Banfield pet hospital in horn Burnie Md southdale. Dr. cotton was her provider and the disrespect was unbelievable. We took our new puppy there for concerns of kennel cough and vomiting that would come after a coughing spell. She is only 8 weeks old so there was concern for dehydration. Before the doctor even came in she recommended parvo test, blood work, and X-ray. I said no we would like her to evaluate her first and I think that pissed the doctor off. I asked questions as anyone would and she just kept saying I stick with my original recommendation. I told her we will do parvo and treat for kennel cough and she was completly demeaning the whole time. (Btw I was on the phone while my husband was in the office). she came back in and told him no parvo but she did have worms so she recommends dewormer, sub w fluids, and antiemetic and antibiotics but would not give her a cough suppressant because she wants to "get it up". First, the only reason our puppy was coming was cough induced but you refuse to give her something to suppress that, next when I asked what the sub q fluids would be like she said "I don't have time to sit and discuss this with you for two hours, I do have other patients." Discussing that a vet could treat anyone this way. I asked because I wanted to make sure everything was medically necessary, she she was a complete jerk. I have been to a few Banfield locations, and this one has been the worst. 2 months after getting my dogs teeth cleaned here their breath was terrible again. I went back to Banfield, they refused to re-clean their teeth unless I paid up again..and admitted their teeth were terrible. My family vet told me they should have done multiple extractions, and their teeth should be re-cleaned. One of my two dogs is in a fair amount of pain, they won't give me the service I paid for, and now I have to shell out another $500 to have this poor guys teeth cleaned and pulled elsewhere. I am a new Fur baby mom, & my baby name is Duke. Duke first appointment was 2/22/23, the week leading up to his appointment I was calling asking different questions & when I tell you Laurel (Petsmart) Banfield employees was SUPER AWESOME & AMAZING I mean just that! I spoke to multiple people but Nurse Brittney was so helpful this day to put my nerves at ease I swear! I am not a fan of leaving Duke there without me or his "human" dad so every appointment I hope we can get put on that express schedule, I would also love in person appointments as well just to see how Duke interacts with Dr. Jones. 2/24/23 Duke started not feeling well he stopped eating and everything, I called down to the office the next day and Dr Jones was there and told us to bring him in asap we did just that checks out he was still on a healthy track whoop whoop Dr. Jones gave her recommendations we followed and hours later DUKE WAS BACK TO HIS JOYFUL self. Very attentive, clean, and caring. Making an appointment is easy and the location is convenient to my home. My only complaint, the staff had canceled my appointment then gave it to someone else when they were unable to reach me to confirm. It's always been my practice to call if I need to cancel, but to be canceled because THEY couldn't get in touch with me to confirm was odd. In fact, I had actually arrived 10 minutes early, during which the Doctor overheard me addressing my concerns with her staff about the preempted scheduling of another dog in the place of my appt. She was extremely apologetic and insisted on seeing my dog at the original appointed time. Dr. Winters and her staff are second to none. I admit that I was initially hesitant to take my dog to a veterinary clinic that was tied to a national chain. I was fearful that he would become one of the many that are lost in the shuffle as doctors are pressed to squeeze in more and more clients in order to raise profits. I am extremely happy to say that they have proven my fears wrong. I found Dr. Winters quite a few years ago when she was working at the Columbia, MD location. I started taking my dog to her almost immediately after her graduation from veterinary school and I've fallen in love with the service she provides. She takes the time to explain the circumstances to me whenever I have questions. If I'm being completely honest, I'm always looking at vet care with the mindset of, "I'll do anything to save my best friend, but how much is this really going to cost me?" Whenever I find myself confused about how I should handle a situation, I look at Dr. Winters and say, "treat him as if he were your own." She hasn't let me down yet. In fact, I now travel close to ninety minutes to continue taking my dog to her location. I pass numerous other Banfield clinics along the way, but the relationship she has cultivated can only be described with one word: family. Every time I walk through the front door, I feel as though we are a part of the family at Banfield Pet Hospital in Maryland City. I don't want to leave out the tremendous care that we've received from Dr. Rybak. While Dr. Winters was on vacation, our boy came down with a skin condition (mites on one end, cyst on another) and she was outstanding! Knowing that we travel a distance to use them, she went above and beyond to ensure that the pharmacy was able to get the prescription filled and shipped in a timely manner so that we would have it before traveling out of town with our dog for an extended period of time. I have had Banfield for my Yorkie since 2017. Over the years the quality and service at Banfield has gone down. For example, my baby was diagnosed with seizures by Dogs and Cats Hospital and he is on medications that have managed his seizures extraordinary well. As any pet parent would do, I had my baby's records sent to Banfield as the primary vet. for my baby's wellness. On December 9, 2022, I called the location at Maryland City Plaza at 10:30am EST and asked that the emergency seizure medication, which had been re-filled at this location on two prior occasions be refilled. The call was normal and the young lady who assisted me stated that the medication would be filled that day. I subsequently, came to the location near closing to pick up the medication and was advised by a rather rude front desk assistant that the vet who had After back and forth banter, the manager of said location stated that the medication was controlled and the vet on duty would need to read the notes even though I had made the request before 12 noon and it approximately 15 minutes to closing, approximately . In short, I counted how many times she said that it's controlled to the point that I asked point blank are you inferring something? It was off-putting and just weird her tone and manner. Mind you, this was the same individual who had previously walked me through how to administer this medication on a prior occasion. Bizarre on all accounts because this information was clearly in my dog's records. This was not a random ask or an ask for a medication that was not documented in the medical records of my dog. read more

They took my dogs bandages off to look at his lesions and wouldn't even cover them up afterwards, they let him bleed all over the place numerous times. They insist that you sign up for the wellness plan and inject your dog with many shots when you are only there for a specific reason. Dr. Winters does not know how to perform surgeries if your dog has a tumor please do not let her perform any surgeries on your pet, after she removed my dogs lesions they came back in 3 weeks bigger than ever and he had to be put to sleep 1900$ later. read more

My cat got a minor dog bite but almost died from infection b/c they gave her weak antibiotics that didn't work. I went back asap, and then they did a bacterial culture for $175 to see what will work, and it came out inconclusive, due to them not doing their job right and getting some of the bacteria. I mean the wound was draining, giving a fishy smell, and the stitches were falling off; so I don't think it was due to a lack of bacteria! They refused to give me a refund or a redo. Not cool. I practically just gave them $175 for the heck of it. Thankfully the second antibiotic worked. But what should have been $500 with one visit, ended up costing me $1000 with multiple visits. It was a nightmare for both me and especially my sick cat. FYI: They told me I didn't have to clean her wound or put ointment on it. So I didn't initially plus she's an indoor cat, but it was getting infected again! It's definitely worth getting a second opinion on this. In fact just go somewhere else. I do not recommend using this Banfield. Our experience was horrible and costly due to Dr. Winters's LACK of experience. Although it was never about the money, they pleaded that I was crying about how much their "services" were when they filed a rebuttal to the complaint that I filed on them to the State of Maryland. The fact is that they could not help my dog and I believe they knew that upfront and they should have gave me a referral long before they did. My dog almost died. I took my dog to Dog and Cat in Bowie Maryland and she was put under anesthesia within an hour of my arrival and I picked her up the next day. She had swallowed a squeaker from one of her toys and it completely stopped her system. She had not eaten in two days when I went the Banfield and they messed me around for three more days. My dog lost 6 lb and was walking very unsure of her steps and she was off balance. I believe she was dying. If you belong to Banfield as we still do, we use the Columbia facility, I would avoid Dr. Winters at all cost. That is my opinion and I'm stating the facts of my visit in December of 2017 exactly as I remember them. read more

We have been seeing Dr. Winters at Banfield for over 4 years. We actually followed her from the Columbia Banfield to Laurel, which is a 25 minute drive compared to a 10 min drive! Our first experience with Dr Winters was when we had a dog that was sick and our old vet was closed. So we went to Banfield. Dr Winters diagnosed a very late stage heart murmur! We were very surprised as this dog had just had his physical a month before and we were never told of this or he could have been on meds for months! I switched to Dr Winters immediately and they took very loving car of Freddy for the rest of his life. Shortly after the diagnosis, Freddy passed away while we were on vacation. Dr Winters worked with our sitter and kept Freddy for us until we got home so that we could say goodbye. Of course a year later we rescued Bella and of course we took her right to Dr Winters! Bella is now about 4 and we wouldn't think of going anywhere else. With respect to the actual Banfield plan. I think that the fees for services are a little higher, but what you receive for those services are so worth it! Some of which are that they are open early and and close late, open on weekends, and they are just so caring - I could go on!! read more

We were referred to the Laurel location and are happy to have found them! We like that they have their own facility and not attached to a PetSmart. It's not so busy and hectic like that. Nice, clean facility. Now to the nitty gritty. Their customer service is exceptional! We have struggled to find a good vet when we relocated to Maryland three years ago. When we found them, we became exited and said "finally!" Brandy is WONDERFUL and goes above and beyond! She is so friendly and helpful. In a day and age when good customer service has fallen by the wayside, it's rare to find mediocre service, much less not just good, but EXCELLENT customer service. Brandy is knowledgable about many things and always answers our questions and is patient with us. I see her interaction with other clients while there via phone and in person and she's always wonderful with everyone. This Banfield location is LUCKY to have her and I hope they make sure to keep her happy to keep her there! Now, on to Dr. Ellis. She is fantastic and seems to really care about the pets. I think she really understands that these four legged babies are family. She is knowledgable and diagnosed and helped our baby boy feel better quickly. She quickly became our favorite Vet that we've seen in Maryland. Between Brandy and Dr. Ellis, we are completely sold on this location! This is our go to Vet with all three of our babies now and we highly recommend them! read more

I signed up for the Banfield Preventative Plans because I think they are a great deal and worth the money. Never once did they push the plans on me. They simply educated me about what they covered. They answered all of my questions and really took the time to listen to my pets ailments. Two of my five pets have been seen here so far and the other three are not far behind. Dr. Winters and her staff are caring, compassionate and extremely knowledgeable. When we brought our Great Dane in for lethargy, Dr. Winters went above and beyond to run every test possible. She walked us through treatment options and, when it turned out that our Great Dane had inoperable bone marrow cancer, completely untreatable, Dr. Winters demonstrated her care and compassion by referring us to an emergency vet just to be sure there was nothing that could be done. Dr. Winters' diagnosis was correct. After our dog passed away, Dr. Winters sent us a sympathy card and donated to dog cancer research. I could not ask for a better, more qualified vet who is empathetic and truly understands that our pets are our children. read more

Dr. Winters has been seeing my pups most of their lives and I rarely trust anyone else to handle their care. She's incredibly personable and cares deeply about the animals she cares for. When my dog had a hematoma in her ear, Dr. Winters did everything she could to avoid surgery. Unfortunately, my dog still had to have surgery. But Dr. Winters, Dr. Ead, and the outstanding Vet techs taught me how to properly change her bandages and she healed nicely. When the same dog had another hematoma in her other ear (beagle with floppy ears that smack her head when she shakes, it's expected), Dr. Winters' treatment was very successful and surgery was avoided! Dr. Winters is so attentive that she caught the fact that my English bulldog has had more than a couple UTIs. I hadn't even brought that up before she advised to get further testing done on him. She was able to identify his eye problems and prescribe medications that help him feel and see better. But the absolute best thing she did was she identified his hair loss, weight gain, and bladder issues as hyperthyroid and he's now feeling better and growing his hair back! Dr. Winters cares so much for her charges that she came in on her day off to look at images taken of my pups abdomen after he swallowed a piece of his toy. He ended up at the doggie ER, but she helped identify locations for where the blockage was. Dr. Winters is experienced, knowledgeable, and willing explain everything for her patients. I'd follow her anywhere and trust her completely with my animals. read more

So, my dog has been a Banfield customer for almost nine years. He has been on the wellness plan for maybe five or six years. He started at the Banfield in Winter Springs, FL and then the Banfield in Columbia, MD came next. He received adequate care at both places, but, neither was great either. Then one day his eye got injured. It was terrible before I knew it, and he needed emergency care on a Saturday. The Banfield in Columbia couldn't see him. They suggested I call the other Banfields in the area and see if I could get an appointment with one of them. The first one to be able to see him was Dr. Winters at this location in Laurel. It was about a 1/2 hr drive to get there from Baltimore, but, my dog needed care, so, we went to see Dr. Winters. Now, based on the poor customer service I had received at the Columbia Banfield that day, I had told myself as soon as my dog was well, we'd switch to a new vet. However, Dr. Winters changed my mind. She was immediately available to help care for my injured dog. She not only treated me really well, but she also treated my dog really well. He came close to loosing his eye, the injury was very bad, but Dr. Winters and, really, the whole staff at this Banfield clinic, gave my dog such excellent care that he recovered. And, he kept his eye. Based on the care that my dog received during this crisis and the excellent customer service I received from this clinic I not only decided to stay with Banfield for my dog, and exclusively at this clinic with Dr. Winters, but, I also changed vets for my cat. Now, both my cat and dog have been seeing Dr. Winters for about two years and I couldn't be happier. She is a great vet, and the other vets that work there are great too. I am always treated well, and so are my animals. I can't remember everyone's name, but, Brandy, Gaby, Rose, Juliet, and all the rest of the staff (see, terrible with names) are really great too. I have always felt that my pets are well taken care of by Dr. Winters and the rest of the staff at this Banfield location. I will be a customer here as long as Dr. Winters is a doctor here and I have pets that need care. read more

The Veterinarian was a pleasure, office staff friendly and efficient. Our dog needed teeth cleaning, and available pet insurance was discussed. We compared what we have paid over the previous year to the cost had we had insurance, and the insurance was worth the investment.
