NEVER purchase their pet insurance!!! We were talked into their wellness care. Our sweet Wendy passed away and we called to cancel . We were told that we must pay the entire contract or pay back everything we saved . How cruel .We weren't able to use it much so we will have to pay back what we saved . My 1.5 yo Cornish Rex left in shock yesterday and is now dead. I'm so sad. He went 10 days before and was given prescribed meds. Took him back for follow up and he left in shock and taken to emergency vet. He is now DEAD. Don't go there . The first pics are when he arrived 10 days ago. He is no longer with us. he was a Cornish Rex stud and I'm good health. Now is a memory and it doesn't take 5 hours to figure out he wasn't well and never examined. Due to my continued negative interactions with this Petsmart, I am not a huge fan of this location. This feeling has extended towards this Banfield as well which is located in the store. I have been to this location twice to have my dog seen and both times I have been told that my dog "has opinions" meaning he was hard to treat due to behavioral issues. The first time I was surprised because I have never had an issue with my dog and people. In fact, my dog runs up to strangers and lets them pet and hold him. I should also mention I took advantage of the drop off appointment system the first time he was seen by this location. The system allows your animal to be dropped off early in the day and to be picked up at your convenience after the appointment has been completed. Due to his "opinions", I was concerned to leave him alone again. I figured that he may act better if he had a familiar face during the appointment. During my second appointment I was told again that he has "opinions" but this time I came to truly understand what that meant. The only outburst my dog had during the appointment was when his temperature taken rectally (of course). This is fine in my opinion as I can imagine that even with lubricant, having a thermometer inserted rectally would be quite uncomfortable. That opinion was not shared by the veterinarian apparently, as she began to tell me that my dog was not well behaved and this will result in difficulty treating him in the future. Now I understand that it must be difficult to have the job of trying to treat animals as it is difficult to get them to follow commands, and I'm sure it must get tiring having to insert a thermometer into a dog that clearly does not want you to, but I don't think it equates to behavioral issues and to me it seems like a normal reaction. To put this into context, my dog was 7 months old at the time and this was the third or fourth time he has had his temperature taken rectally so I'm sure he's not used to it at all, and the experience was probably traumatizing for him. That's not even the worst part of the visit either. She then began to tell me that it was not "their job" to teach the dog to behave and that this training was to take place at home since they only see an animal a few times a year. Excuse me? I'm sorry but I don't see how my dog feeling uncomfortable with having his anal cavity explored means that he is not being trained at home and it does not mean that myself and my wife are not doing a good job of raising our dog. In the words of my wife "what are we supposed to do at home then? Stick a thermometer in his butt??" As a health care professional, this is embarrassing. The primary thing we are taught in school is to make sure you do not isolate or embarrass your patient while trying to educate them, as this leads to the patient not trusting you and not listening to your medical advice. At this point I am no longer going back to this Banfield. I have enrolled my dog into a private veterinary clinic. I explained this story to them and what they said summed it up perfectly. "How your dog reacted to that experience says a lot more about the staff at that clinic and their atmosphere than it does about your dogs behavioral issues" read more

We have gone to Banfield in several different states and elsewhere in Florida. This one here is the absolute worst!!! They cancel appointments regularly, claim they call when they don't, give out misinformation and allow you to make appointments for vaccinations after verifying only to tell you they can't do it yet when you arrive. Oh and let's not forget how they nickel and dime on everything and always, always, always trying to upsell. They are inept at the front desk. Takes forever for them to figure out how to charge Care Credit if you dont have your card on you. First they refuse and say they can't do it until you explain to them that they can and how you do it all the time. In the parking lot I came across another dog owner who agreed how bad they are here. She told me she never goes to Banfield and that she even worked there (not sure if she meant Pet Smart or Banfield but still worth listening too). read more

I have been taking both my dog and cat to Banfield for rhe past eight years, and have nothing but praise for the vet, the people who work there and the organization as a whole. I credit the people here with saving my old cat when i thouht he was too sick and might need to be put to sleep. Dr Rubio treats both of my pets well, and takes the time to explain everything and answer all my questions. He even personally calls to answer my questions or follow up when there is a major issue with one of my pets. The staff is always professional and courteous - from check-in through check-out. And they will always call to remind me of an appointment the day before, and follow up with how my pet is doing the day after. I have had both of my animals on the wellness plan for at least the past 6-7 years. Monthly payments from my credit card are reasonable, and i usually owe nothing additional at checkout unless my pet needs some meds. And if there is a charge, they let me know the total up front. I'm never aurprised at the check-out counter. The fact that this vet is attached to petsmart is an additional advantage. I can drop off my pets during scheduled checkups (they are both small and under 20 lbs.) and wander through the store. Overall, the best vet i've been to over the last 30+ years. read more

My wife took one of our dogs to the Melbourne, FL Banfield this morning as she had an appointment scheduled for 10:30 am and she arrived on time. After waiting in the lobby for 15 minutes, she was finally able to get someone's attention to get checked in. When my wife spoke to the male attendant, to check our dog in at the front desk, he advised my wife that our account was on hold for nonpayment. My wife keeps pretty good records and was able to show the attendant that indeed our account was debited for the monthly pet insurance we have for both pets. The attendant went and got the manager and she instructed him to call their corporate office. My wife explained to the manager what was occurring. The manager stated that the front-desk attendant would take care of my wife; another attendant came and took our dog back to be seen. The attendant called their corporate insurance office, which took about 45 minutes. After the attendant hung up he stated that Banfield said the money wasn't there. My wife explained to the attendant that the same credit card has been used the entire time we have had our policy this past year. One of our pets insurance was paid and the other was not, which was the pet that was brought to the office; this was a payment error by Banfield. After our dog was brought back to my wife, the attendant and the manager told my wife had to pay for a full visit. My wife said she'd pay for the monthly insurance payment that was due, which Banfield failed to charge properly and that's it. The attendant told my wife they would be charging a late fee even though it was Banfield who failed to deduct the payment from our credit card for the monthly insurance. My wife then asked if the vet was going to come out and talk to her. As she waited for the vet, my wife began talking to another customer that was there with her pet. She had overheard the discussion my wife was having with the Banfield staff. She asked my wife what happened and my wife was sharing her experience. My wife told the customer she has always has a bad experience at this particular location and that she was not going to auto renew our policy. The attendant overhead the discussion my wife was having with the customer and he went and got the manager. The manager came out and told my wife that she should not be talking to other customers about her bad experiences at this location. My wife told the manager she was answering her question. The manager said not every customer is has had the same experience as she has had and to please not share her experience to other customer. I wished I would have been there with my wife because I would have told the manager the last time I checked, we live in the USA and I'm stating my opinion and if she had a problem with that, she could go pound sand. The manager left the area and went to the back. A few minutes later the vet came out and she shared details, with my wife, about the dog's checkup. The vet was very professional, and she apologized for what was taking place at the counter and hoped everything would be straightened out. My wife paid the bill and left. She will be calling their corporate office on Tuesday morning to get an explanation as to what occurred with the billing error. I would advise people to avoid this Banfield site, as most of the staff is ill informed or outright rude. read more

For review of blood work I didn't even want to give it one star. Had a blood test on my dog in March 2018 we were not told that the levels were showing some major signs of sickness, very low white blood cells and high liver enzymes. They were treating her for an outbreak of lesions, dermatology. Instead she had a severe liver disease that went untreated until a dermatologist saw the lesions as a symptom to a much more serious disease, five months later, shortening her life and the quality our having her in ours. Seems like they like to prescribe quite a bit of Medicine in order to increase the bill. May want to consider treating your dog naturally so that your loving pet doesn't get over loaded antibiotics and toxic medicines which can hurt the liver in the kidneys, as contributed to our puppy getting worse. Have a good staff at Mooresville North Carolina. Have a poor daycare staff in Virginia Beach, Virginia the one time that I used it. Our dogs weighed 10 pounds each, since they were the only small dogs and they did nor want to clean both rooms, our dogs were put in large dog room and trampled when we came to pick them up. Tramatized by the experience and so were we, since we were there for a funeral. The wait time overall in Melbourne Florida is very long, but good for really sick dogs, always want drop offs for regular visits. On a positive side when they put our dog down 9/12, the staff was very supportive and compassionate. I feel the company puts too much emphasis on numbers over care. The staff in Melbourne and Mooresville are very good, but very overworked and I am sure underpaid. read more

There was a little bit of a wait for us to see the vet, but it's the same at pretty much any medical facility you go to (Doctor, Dentist, Podiatrist). Y'all location in Melbourne Fl killed my dog. They gave her pain pills that she reacted terribly to. Before they even prescribed her anything, I asked about pet cbd treats and they said not to. I listened because I THOUGHT they would know something. So they LIED about it on her record and said that we gave her cbd items and told the other person on my account "we said to stop giving it her" that was a lie because i asked about it, not that I gave it to her. I should've just stuck to my gut and gave that a try anyways. We took her to the emergency room multiple times in a 4 day span. Because first, she wouldnt eat or drink. Then she would vomit then the seizures came. She couldnt walk anymore so we had to put her down. Y'all need to revaluate that staff immediately because they are giving random pills to people for our pets without really knowing whats going on. read more

We have been a Banfield customer since our kitties were a few months old. We really liked our previous Banfield location in VA. However, we recently moved to Melbourne, FL. We had our 6 month check up at yhe Melbourne, FL location today. Very disappointed! The person at the front desk has a bad attitude and could use some customer service training. Because of COVID, they took my girls back without me. Didnt really like it since we were new but it is what it is. However, I have no idea who the actual DR is. At a minimum she could have walked out said hello an introduced herself. I understand she should not stay out long or get close to chat. I waited on a bench inside the store an heard my girls meowing in the back. Didnt help the situation at all. The only good thing is the nurse who checked us out. She was very nice, knowledgeable and informative. Hoping she handled my girls more than the unknown DR and bad attitude girl. Also, bad attitude girl hung up phone and proceeded to talk about whoever she hung up with to a colleague. It wasnt just to notify them an emergency was coming in either. I am blown away on how good every single Banfield Hospital is. Melbourne did not disappoint. We are new to this location and I was nervous about seeing a new doctor and staff. The front desk ladies were great, super friendly, was greeted right away and placed in a room immediately. I had an appointment for one dog, but brought both. As I was meeting with Kirsten (Nurse), my other dog had a spill, scared both of us, she hit her head pretty hard. Kirsten snapped into action right away and took INCREDIBLE care of my dog, made sure she was ok and treated her like her own baby had fallen. Of course I was a nervous wreck. After the drama. We met with the Vet and she was awesome as well, took care of BOTH dogs. Very happy customer! I love the wellness plans I have BOTH of my dogs on, best investment for our pets. read more

I was skeptical at first to take my cat to this location due to its poor reviews, however it was the only vet that could see my cat so quickly. The visit started off with me driving to the wrong Petsmart. I called the clinic and informed them I would be twenty minutes late. The staff at first wanted to reschedule but then went out of their way to speak to the doctor. The doc agreed to still see me, and told me to drive safely. Once at the appointment the staff apologized to me saying they have a full schedule and will have to wait a bit.... I was just happy to be seen. The nurse came in after a few minutes to get a history and she answered all of my questions. We called this morning because our cat had a tinge of blood in his urine. Called to see if we could bring him in that afternoon with our dog - who already had a 4:00 appt. The receptionist said we needed to take the cat into the Emergency Room RIGHT AWAY, that he would need SURGERY. So, in a panic we take him to the ER. Two hours and $ 591.00 later, we find out he has a urinary tract infection. A common infection diagnosed with a urine test. They did the same thing about 5 weeks ago. Our cat had an eye injury and they wouldn't even let us bring him in for an opinion - nope - they sent us straight to the ER. read more

This is the worst banfield I have ever been to. There's no point to calling things in, they won't have it ready when you get here. Even if you have to drive 45 minutes and they are aware of that. Their service has always been poor and many of the vets I've encountered seem unhappy to be here and don't have very good people skills. They actually diagnosed my dog wrong at one point. If you make an appointment you might as well have walked in because they'll make you wait 30-40'min before you finally see the dr. This is the only banfield I've been to that's super disorganized and just frankly, terrible. I've been to others that are much better. This one is not a reflection of all the banfield's but is unfortunately the one closest to me. Oh and also, they act like their plan saves you money but I haven't experienced that yet. Dog lovers beware. I have been coming to Banfield in 2 states with both of my dogs for 6 years now and I always give them second chances to convert me into a fan. I now know it is a hopeless cause. I've had enough from this business and the lack of professionalism by the front staff. Some concentrated corporate training is needed at the customer level as well as the measured outcomes for wellness care. One of my dogs just had to have 2 oral surgeries from a different vet for teeth issues that should have been detected and prevented from getting this bad seeing as though we are on the wellness plan with dental. It proves my point that the Drs are not the ones doing the teeth cleaning and it is left up to under trained and poorly qualified hourly techs. Maybe we should see their qualifications too. I am beyond disappointed and frustrated and I will gladly pay for care at another well respected office not affiliated with a pet store. I. Am honestly say I have NEVER had a wonderful experience at these places. I love my dogs like children and they deserve much better. If I could give them less than one star I would. I called about my puppy who had been lethargic for two days. I knew he needed an appointment because I monitored him for 48hr with no change. I spoke to the vet tech on the phone and she told me to keep waiting him that he would be fine, then I told her no he has already been to the vet 3 weeks ago with the same issue and they told me to call if he started again. So she went and got the vet and the vet said "I refuse to see him unless you bring him in to do x,y and z." I said so you won't even see him unless I do a bunch of stuff that has nothing to do with him throwing up? They wanted to charge me $580 for test alone and to top it off they said "you'll have to bring him in drop him off and will get to him when we can, if not will call you to let you know he has to stay over night but that's also a extra charge". So I called a different vet which I only go to if I need to because the prices are CRAZY but they told me to bring him in to get checked and they would tell me which test he needed to have done because only 1 of 6 that banfield said he HAD TO DO need to actually be done. Point is this PLACE IS HORRIBLE AND ALL ABOUT THE EXTRA DOLLAR IN THERE POCKET. I don't care how much it cost to help my dog but I do care when you don't even seem to want to help him unless it's got a big pay day in it for you. read more

I have two dogs who have had wellness plans, one who has been with Banfield for nearly 10 years. Things have always been just mediocre but we really liked her doctor so we stuck with it. After moving to another state and several deaths in the family among other issues we forgot to update our credit card which we had to cancel due to fraud. Unfortunately instead of a human ever calling me from Banfield so let me know that our payments were not going through, they decided to send our account to collections while making us still pay for the remaining nine months of the plan that THEY Canceled. In 10 years, never once have I had a problem with making payments to them and I am a palled that this is the treatment we get especially after are you going through such a difficult time. This is a classic example of corporate greed and I am repulsed. I highly recommend you avoid this establishment at all costs. They are very unethical. read more

My recent experience with Banfield in Melbourne was nothing short of horrible. My puppy was JUST in for a checkup 3 weeks ago. During the visit, I mentioned she's been limping intermittently. She wasn't limping at the time so the Dr. recommended to wait and see if the problem persisted. If so, x-rays would be required and more than likely she would need to be sedated. Alas, a week later the problem is worsening. I called Banfield to schedule an appointment for the x-ray and sedation. I asked about how much it would be. I was quoted $180.00 (Not "about $180", not "just the x-ray is $180.00", not "$180.00 plus the sedation and potential other charges"). $180.00 is what I was told. However, they can't get her in for a week. I called other local vets who could have seen my dog THAT day or the next day. However, Banfield's price of $180 was less, not drastically, but less than the other vets and they were already familiar with my puppy. (I attributed the price difference to my "Wellness Plan" discounts). We went to the appointment today, we get checked in and proceed to the office. The nurse, who was very kind and professional, pulls up my quote on her screen and tells me "With everything here it comes to $466, but it may be more if we need to send the x-rays to a radiologist to examine." SAY WHAT!?!?! Ok... We aren't talking about a couple of dollars, $50, or even $100 difference. THAT IS OVER A 60% PRICE DIFFERENCE! I express my frustration about the entire process and she asks me if I would like to speak to the Dr. I share with the Dr. (Heather Decker, DVM) that I am frustrated because this is no where near the price that I was quoted. Her response? "The front desk isn't authorized to give quotes, only the Dr. can and I just worked up this quote before you came in this morning. Also, that price was ONLY for the xray, it didn't include sedation or blood work or anything else." Ok, there are multiple issues here: 1 - BUT THEY DID GIVE ME A QUOTE! 2 - I don't work here, so how am I supposed to know who is or is not authorized to provide a quote. Take some accountability and stop justifying your bait and switch method. 3 - I specifically asked them on the phone for the price of an "X-ray including sedation". I am sure this isn't the first time someone has needed an x-ray. Wouldn't you suppose when someone asks "How much?" that they are looking for an actual "How much is this going to cost me for everything we just talked about" price? 4- I waited A WEEK for this appointment when I could have already had the x-ray done and had my dog on the road to recovery had I gone elsewhere. 5 - At no point in time did she address the HUGE price difference or in any way act sympathetic to my valid frustration. The next sentence out of her mouth, said in a very snide tone, is "Well I don't know what you want from me." I've had enough at this point so I say "What I want is a fu**ing apology." Oh boy. I gave her the perfect excuse to cop-out of the conversation; "I don't have to stand here and listen to you cuss at me, I'm done." She proceeds to tell me "You should take your dog and leave, and you should cancel your wellness plan and go somewhere else." and she leaves the room. Oh believe me, I will... I most definitely will. 6 - My dog is still in pain. Dr. Heather Decker showed an absolute lack of consideration for my dog's well being by handling it this way. Oh, did I mention that she didn't even know what she was supposed to be x-raying? She knew the dog was limping but she had yet to determine which leg had the issue. Interesting how you're on the ball when it comes to racking up the bill, but you don't even know what you are actually charging me for. I wonder if this wasn't leaving the door open for additional xrays and more money? I see the prerogative here. Thanks, but no thanks Banfield. Terrible place!!!! I called ahead to make sure they were open before driving a 45 minutes. They said they would be there until 5. When I got there at 4:40, they were closing, and refused to help me. I just needed a tick collar, but they rudely dismissed me and told me to come back tomorrow. If you say you're open until 5, you should be able to sell a simple item at 4:40!
