Disclaimer: I've been going to Anne-Marie since she started cutting hair almost 6 years ago, so I'm a bit biased when it comes to her. But seriously I'm so excited she's working at Bang! salon! It's one of the most fun atmosphere's I've found in a salon, and they want you to feel comfortable there. I havn't had any of the other stylists work on my hair but since it usually takes me close to 3 hours to get all my coloring and cut done I've seen alot of their works and I am super impressed! Whether it's a simple hair cut or a funky - artsy cut they do it all, and it always looks good! Everyone there takes the time to listen to the customers about what they want and I've never seen anyone walk out unhappy. Anne-Marie has made me every shade of red in the rainbow (on my own will) and we've finally found the perfect shade for me. And when I went in this past Monday I let her cut my hair finally. (I usually just keep it straight and long with no layers) She put layers in my hair all over and gave me slight side bangs as well. I usually hate bangs since I hate actually having to do my hair every morning, but Anne-Marie did an amazing job! And she gives a great head massage when she's washing your hair too! Problem Hair? Anne R is your lady. I've followed her through 2 other salons and she's the only person that could tame my possessed curly/wavy/straight hair. She's not afraid to tell me that my hair type will not work with whichever hair trend, and instead give me cut that I love even more than the trend I was infatuated with. As for color-- I've received tons of compliments on my highlights, even after they had grown out a bit. She does fantastic men's cuts too. My husband won't let anyone else touch his cowlick riddled head, especially with the "scratchy spot" that she conceals so well. It's like a game trying to find it after he gets a new cut. And with our combined cursed hair genes, I'm certain I'll probably be taking our daughter to Anne as soon as she's grown enough hair to cut. read more

Ugh. Hate to do this but my color faded almost instantly. They suggested I make another appointment to put more toner on my already fragile hair. After my second appointment it only took another week for my hair to completely fade to a brownish color (the original color was a plum/purple) 3 stars because Lola gave me a good cut and I was given the opportunity to come back in. However, I won't get my hair colored here again. read more

I decided that I wanted to go blond on Saturday morning, and, that afternoon, Robert spent 4.5 hours highlighting my dark brown hair. Four and a half hours. This man is brilliant with color--I was worried that going blond would wash me out, but the color he gave me made me glow. And he's incredibly patient. I have a lot of hair, and he took his time highlighting small pieces so the color would look natural (but also be a dramatic change, like I asked for). Since I haven't colored my hair in years, I'm so glad that I found Robert to be my new color guru! read more

Lola Gives Me Life I had ombre hair - natural dark brown roots flowing into golden pieces that framed my face. When I made my first appointment I was ready to go back to my original hair color but decided last minute to jump into silver hair. Lola was great at hearing out my concerns and answering all my questions patiently - even showing me examples of her own experience with silver hair. I was amazed at how light she got my hair to go in just one process! The results were amazing and she was great about giving me advice on how to care for my new do. I've had silver hair for about 6 months now and I receive so many compliments but what gets me every time is when they ask "Is that your real hair?!" Yes. He was able to accommodate my needs upon my initial visit, and I am an extremely particular costumer as it relates to my hair. He is meticulous, accurate, fashion forward and full of passion and creativity. He truly listens to you and takes his time to ensure perfect results! Bang is reasonably priced and they use top quality products. They are also flexible in scheduling appointments, even late hours and weekends. Ive Ben Banged for 6 years now by pretty much everyone in the salon. Hey don't judge. I used to get stuck in traffic driving in from the North suburbs just to get my hair done right. These guys can do anything from Conservative cuts, to funky and edgy styles and colors, to extreme avant garde art peaces. Now that I'm in the city the commute is easier. There I was, a "Plain Jane" craving to spin my image into something I personally could not even imagine. I wanted a transformation that would turn heads and inevitably have people to desire my new look (in a fashion sense). So, how do you get "Plain Jane" to have a hair design that communicates elegant, sexy, sophisticated, playful and professional ALL at the same time? The complexity of this seems impossible. Ladies and Gents, allow me to introduce you to Victoria; protege of the one and only Eli Mancha (world renowned stylist, creative and owner of BANG! Salon). My entire experience was truly above and beyond any expectations I have for any salon. I first met with Victoria for a hair consultation. Consultation? Really? Why? Victoria sat with me for an hour (no charge) while together we designed a fully revamped look that encompassed every dynamic that I wanted and even more that she artistically envisioned. After the hour, I was confident and excited for my return in just 2 days for the major transformation. Upon my arrival for the big day, Victoria went through the entire process again to build my confidence and provide me with reassurance I needed to just GO FOR IT! For the next 4.5 hours I received an education on the processes of coloring, bleaching, hydration, nourishment, daily care, long term benefits / risks, and so much more. This education was specifically catered to my hair type. In addition to the valuable education I absorbed, Victoria is simply a fun person to be conversing with over a 4.5 hour appointment. This experience was professional, educational, entertaining and a complete SUCCESS! Overall, this was a big BANG! Lastly, for everyone that thinks this experience was aggressively expensive; I apologize for giving off that impression. Although the quality was spectacular, the price was not at all unreasonable. I would say it is very comparable to most Salons in Chicago or even in the small farm town I grew up in. It is most likely that Bang! Salon is such a success due to reoccurring clients, as opposed to high-priced services. My only regret for giving this review... is my fear of word getting out about the "up and coming, innovative and soon-to-be-creating her own league of 'artistic experts by Victoria' "..is that I won't be able to afford her when this all goes down. My advice...get there and get your transformation before Victoria grows out of our budgets. If you just need a stylist; I'm not sure Bang! would be the place for you. But, if you want an artist that looks at you like you are a canvas for a million $ painting, then Bang! is your salon, and Victoria is your girl! Good luck on your search! read more

Victoria is the absolute best. I've gotten my hair cut by her 4 times and colored 3 times. The very first time I went to see her, I had almost no idea what I wanted to do. Her input was invaluable and she gave me an extremely flattering cut that grows out nicely. Since my goal was growing my hair, that was pretty important to me, and she gave me a great cut - really thinned out my EXTREMELY thick hair. The first time I got a color with Victoria, I went with a pretty standard red/violet and she did a great job. The next two times, I went a little wild and got purple ombre that lasted (as long as purple dye possibly can) a good long time. As long as I live in Chicago, I will probably not go to anyone anywhere else. I've recommended Victoria and Bang! to a bunch of friends and they have all loved it. read more

Lola is the best! I have had her cut and dye my hair twice now, both times drastic changes and she is knowledgeable and professional about what she is doing. This last time I wanted it cut to a certain length and she held my hair up and it was way shorter than I thought! I was glad for her advice as always. I have been having my hair done by Anne R. for 9 years now and when she told me she was moving on to an open spot at Bang! Salon, I did not hesitate to follow her. I have had so many mediocre (to just plain bad) haircuts that once I found Anne- someone who knows how to work with fine, wavy, strange-cowlicks hair- you stick with them! I have had a myriad of haircuts from her (from long to short 'dos), had my hair styled for my brother's wedding (finger waves!!!), had color done AND I even went through a two-year stint of perming. Not only does Anne do it ALL, but she does it with grace and flexibility. She asks you questions. She listens. She explains. She cares that your hair doesn't get fried. I never feel like I did not get exactly what I wanted from Anne. In fact, I don't even go in to see her with ideas anymore because I trust what she'll do with my hair! I recently went in for a haircut with Johnny. I really liked what he did with my hair. I told him I was trying to grow it out and that I didn't like parts of what my last stylist did so he cleaned me up, got me out of the awkward phase and gave me a pretty rockin do. I liked that he explained his process to me and helped me understand why he cut certain pieces each way and how it was going to help me reach my ultimate hair goal. He also gave me an amazing scalp massage during my shampoo which was great, haven't had one of those in a long long time. The salon itself is really small, but its clean and serves its purpose. Their prices are pretty decent as well. $45 for your first cut, $50 normally. Its also literally 2 blocks from my apartment so that is a huge plus for me. If you do drive however, the parking is a lot easier than over at one the centrally wicker park located places. We'll see how the hair grows out, but I'm pretty sure I'll be back in a few months for another trim. read more

I've never had haircuts as great as Shannon provides. She always listens to exactly what I'm after and pauses throughout the cut to ask for my feedback. As well, the two times she's given me color, it's been spot-on. And she just rocks as a person. They're in the process of revamping their decor, which is going to be a nice, sophisticated change. Though the red walls and black circle couch were cheeky, the new leather waiting area couch and the blue walls with abstract art are a good touch. Being a bit of a hair whore i'm picky to begin with, but i liked the haircuts of most of the staff, it got great reviews on yelp, and i thought the young asian stylist on their website was adorable so i figured it was worth a shot...The overall look of the place was solid, the people there were immediately friendly and helpful...i got a good feeling right out of the gate, so i put my head in Shannon's hands and she seemed very capable based on her 7+ years in the biz... Cutting to the chase, I walked in with a friggin' mane of hair (hadn't cut it since May so there were SO MANY options as to what could be done) and i left with a hair helmet...it was clearly expressed i wanted to keep some length, but just tighten up the back...i gave her creative freedom and said to just keep it clean, but still a lil edgy...that is not what i ended up with... Now I don't want to condemn the spot, as again, they were super nice, my haircut isn't terrible, and Shannon said she'd be happy to adjust it for free if after the weekend I decided I didn't like something specific about it and I wanted it to be touched up (she also gave me $5 off as a first time client, which is always appreciated)...the down side is, I don't know what could be done to clean it up without taking even more length off...so i'm keeping it blah...thankfully i like hats anyway... Maybe I'll try them again sometime...and by all means try them yourself...just be specific as to what you want done and pay more attention to your haircut than your phone while you're getting it worked on... egg powder out. read more

I haven't had a hair cut in over 9 months and was nervous about going from super short to a much longer way to style my hair. They managed to squeeze me in last minute, the person I talked to on the phone as well as the receptionist were friendly and super helpful! Eli cut my hair, and before he even put the cape on he sat down with me and discussed exactly what I want and what would look good. I moved to Chicago over the summer and was already dreading having to find a new stylist. I checked on yelp and found Bang! and was drawn in by all the positive comments. I scheduled an appointment with Carrie, and I'm happy to report I hit the jackpot! Carrie is an expert stylist and I have so much trust in her abilities. I have wavy hair which I've never liked and she is the only stylist I've ever been to that is able to essentially "cut out" the wave in my hair. I get my eyebrows done here as well which I've never been disappointed with. The price is higher than what I'm used to paying in Milwaukee, but you're paying for quality. The salon offers excellent price discounts for referrals and also if you return for a haircut within six weeks. Eli is the owner and he is very down to earth, and friendly! Went there on a Friday night, and Shannon gave me a color and cut plus recommendations for places to check out in Chicago. Since I lost my last stylist I've been looking for my new true love to do my hair and I found it in Shannon. She fixed the slightly raggedy cut someone managed to give me the LAST time I got a trim AND do it the right way, evening out the really severe layers that I was looking to ditch in the first place. I came out looking ten times better just in time for Cancun - and now I'll have time to go back and get some straightening and color done with her, too! I've hit up Strange Beauty Show, K Chula, Chicago Ave. Salon and Bang. (oh, and also some random spot in Chinatown) Bang thus far has been my favourite. At first, I wasn't too sure that I liked the cut (to be fair, I never really give very much direction as I don't know what I want outside of length usually) but it definitely grew on me every time I looked at it. I've gotten my hair done there twice. The first time it rocked. I loved it. It was a freeing haircut that made me happy. Though, that may also be owed to the fact I hadn't had a haircut in 4 months and was sporting a ponytail. Regardless, I was happy happy happy! The second time, less enthusiasm. I blame myself. I'm terribly indecisive, and being such, I let Shannon run wild and do as she pleased. I told her that I'm inept at being a girl, and that it needs to be low low maintenance. I don't feel that's exactly what I got. $60 is around what I paid. Everyone was friendly, and yes the head massage was great. But I'd rather try someplace new next time. read more

LOVE this salon. Johnny rescued my hair from a disastrous teaching salon debacle. I chopped off six inches at a teaching salon (which will remain unnamed...hey, they tried), but ended up with a totally boring 'do. I explained my situation to Johnny and he empathized, then spent time hearing what I was looking for in my hair (low maintenance; funky, yet professional; lots of layers; not too bulky; razor-cut; FUN). He designed a style for me that was EXACTLY what I was looking for. In the course of a week, I went from long straight hair, to shorter straight hair, and now I have a cut with layers that really moves and frames my face perfectly. I was in and out in an hour, and that included the EXCELLENT shampoo with head and neck massage that Jet, the assistant, gave me. This salon doesn't look like much from the outside, but don't be fooled, by either its appearance, or any negative reviews. I'm a HUGE fan...and have made Bang! my permanent salon. read more
