If you want the best Thai food in waco, this is the place to go! The food is great, and the chefs accommodate to most dietary needs. The only reason i gave it 4 stars and not 5 is because the service is subpar. Some of the servers are great and super nice. There are a few who are curt and impatient, but they are not mean to customers. I understand that some people may think otherwise, but it really is just their nature. It's a small town, so don't expect world-class service from the staff. I love Thai foods and have been in Thailand many times. I read reviews and it seemed all right, and so I decided to try this place. I had Tom Yum soup and green curry, and both tasted like a package from a chinese market. Awful service and worst foods. read more

Avoid this place. The server has really bad attitude. The food was horrible. The restaurant timings are until 10 pm. We reached there at 8.40. The server was extremely rude. Uhh no, just no. I heard about this place so much that we finally just had to try and just no. There are other better places to eat at. Overall, it was just strange place to be at, the servers were dressed a little way too casual. It was crowded, the table and chairs are placed too close to each other. Wow never been treated so rudely then the owner was to us when I tried to eat here. We came in around 6:45 and it was busy but no wait for our table. We sat and waiting a hour and then asked the owner passing by " how much longer will our food be" his reply was " what, you guys just got here" I told him we have been waiting a hour already and he said to us " just leave". I can't believe he said that to me. We asked how he keeps any business with that attitude? He called us assholes and said he was the owner. Love it. The new space at University Parks Drive/Franklin is sooo much better than the old space. The decor is cool, and the atmosphere now matches the quality of the food! I always felt so self-conscious in the old restaurant because it was dead silent all the time and I felt like everyone in the place could hear your conversation. There's so much more seating now too! The menu and food quality continue to rock, and the waitstaff are as friendly as always. read more

The food really was tasty but the service was awful. We had a woman server- youngish (I wish I had gotten her name) and she was so horrible to my children! They weren't screaming or crying but they were excited to tell the waitress what they wanted to eat and she VERY rudely told me that she will have to come back when they aren't making any sound because she can't think with them making sound. We found our new favorite place. We were looking for a place to eat, somewhere new. And we were driving around and came across this place. It was lunch and we were in casual attire and everyone that went in were in business attire so it was intimidating at first. It got worse when we got inside. The place looked so fancy and well decorated. We started to think that this was not in our budget for a simple lunch. Then we got seated and we were in way to deep now. But when the server brought us the menu, we were shocked to find that a meal is only $7-8!! Yep. $7-8. I couldn't believe it first. Like, this place? Fancy lookin and all? The surprises didnt stop there. Meal came with soup or salad. Soup is delicious! The salad had an original dressing that you won't be able to just buy from the stores. Was original and tasted wonderful. Then the entree i ordered was yellow curry. I cook curry all the time and i love my curry. But this one had a different taste to it. They use coconut milk. I now want to try this. I was furious that the curry was aloooot better than mine i would say. Of atleast it was completely different. Server was a little rushed and we felt like we were being a bit rushed but other than that, will definitely try more of whats their menu have to offer! read more

As Tyler Cowen as noted, Thai food has been discovered, making it generally less economical than other ethnic foods. But Bangkok has the polish we've come to expect of Thai without big city prices. With a few exceptions entrees are under $10, but the atmosphere is dark with cherry accents, making it feel like a nice night out. The food is great. Bangkok Royal is great, especially for being in Waco! Their pad thai isn't great but it's ok. Their seafood is really where it's at. They have a some great seafood dishes that are just outstanding. Went with my mom the first time I went here. I don't remember what we ordered but her entree smelt HORRIBLE. The food wasn't good enough to return. I told my boyfriend about our experience and he never wanted to go. However, we decided to give it a try today. My boyfriend ordered the Bangkok Cashew which he thought was okay and finished it because he was starving. I ordered the chicken and broccoli in garlic sauce. The chicken was overcooked and there wasn't enough food on my plate to be worth the $10. If you're a food snob, or know your food, don't go here. read more

This restaurant was horrible. I visited the establishment this evening for the first time. The food was not good at all. Our table ordered a few glasses of wine and two of the glasses had several things floating in them. The horrible thing about it the servers were advised and shown the things floating around and we as guests were treated as we put it there purposely. The customer service was horrible and they did not want to remove the wine from our bills at all until it was brought up about the health department. The establishment never took responsibility for there error and just wanted there money over satisfying a HUGE customer concern. To make matters worse management insulted us as guests even further and poured the wine out in the back where we didn't see came back to front counter and ran his finger thru the empty glass sarcastically saying it was JUST sugar. After accusing us of putting the floating object there after they dropped off the wine. Would not recommend this restaurant to anyone especially when the food or drinks has things floating in them and no one felt the need to apologize for it. Had my 1st and worst experience today here. It took them nearly an hour and a half to get some of the food out to us. When I asked the small Hispanic looking guy if I could cancel my order as we were already running late to a movie he just told us to leave. Didn't ask if there was anything he could do to accommodate for the excessive wait he just rudely said leave. The venue was not very packed this evening, about 50% full. My mom and I are transplants from Washington state, as well as food industry servers, and absolutely love Thai food. This being about the only Thai place in Waco, we decided to give it a go. The restaurant is nicely decorated but so dark. My mother has seeing problems so we had to be 'those people' who asked to sit somewhere else where she could read the menu, as we were first sat in a dark corner behind a support post. The waitress told us nicely to go ahead and sit wherever she could see better. Which was the table just on the other side of the post. Under some track lighting. We sat. Got water and were not asked if we'd like anything else to drink or if we wanted appetizers. We were also only given a lunch special menu. Being that it was lunch time, that was expected, but I wanted to look at a full menu to see if there were any other options to come back for on a later date at dinner, also I was curious if they had any kid friendly type items. 10 minutes later the waitress (I think the only one for the entire restaurant) literally walked by the table and asked us if we were ready to order yet as she kept walking. We'd never been before, so we asked for another minute to look at the whole menu. 15 minutes later, she still didn't come back and we still didn't have anything to drink besides water. We watched as she took two other table orders and walked past us rather quickly avoiding eye contact for some reason as we tried to attract her attention to give her our order and ask our questions. After waiting another 5-10 minutes I told my mom I wanted to leave. I was getting irritated, not to mention hungry as was my son who was with us. We instead got up and as we were headed to the door, the waitress FINALLY came out of wherever she was hiding and asked us if we wanted to order yet and why we were leaving. I don't know that I'll be back for a sit down meal. I might order take out. But unless I can see more than one server, I doubt I'll ask for a table. read more

Went for dinner last week while visiting Baylor with our future Bear. When we entered the restaurant the lady at the register was on the phone. She got off and didn't even say hello. She took us to a table and tossed the menus down and kept walking. Rude! I looked past it and figured they were just busy. Not really but I wanted to tell myself that. A man came by and brought us all a glass of water but never asked if we wanted something else to drink! The lady came back and took our order and was quite rushed and seemed irritated. The food came out quick and was hot. It tasted ok, nothing at all to write home about or to come back for. We were given the check, paid, and left. Let me start by saying that I have moved away from Waco and my memory may be a bit biased. The last time I was at Bangkok Royal was probably a year ago, but I went there many, many times and remember it well. BR is delicious, has good service, caters to vegetarians (not common in Waco), and provides a lovely atmosphere. My boyfriend and I ended up going on ALL of our dates here and it never got old. The green and yellow curries are particularly good, as are the curry puffs appetizer. You HAVE to try the banana fried ice cream, as well. BR is a lovely, romantic dining experience and I haven't found another Thai place that I like as much anywhere. read more

I am an Indian food connoisseur and have always wanted to try Thai food (since apparently it is similar) so when I was on a mission to get to In-n-Out burger I saw this place and decided to give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised by the interior, it had a cozy yet elegant feel to it. I ordered yellow curry with chicken and I was expecting chunks of chicken instead of a more "shredded" type of meat but again, I have no reference other than Indian food. The curry was also more watery than I expected, but overall it had a great taste and I really enjoyed it. I wasn't overwhelmed by how good it was but it was definitely satisfying. I think it was a good first Thai food trip and certainly better than if I had continued to get to In-n-Out. I'm sure I will be stopping here again on future trips to Waco. read more
