So happy to get takeout from Bangkok Royal during this quarantine! I could never replicate their dishes in my kitchen, so it's worth ordering takeout from here. A perfect meal to split is their Thai Salad and #39 Pad Prig Khing with beef. The salad is kinda like a deconstructed spring roll without the noodles, great peanut dressing. The Pad Prig Khing is a decadent dish with the most flavorful sauce I've ever tasted, it has the perfect amount of spice and sweetness to it. My husband and I were hesitant to give this place a try after quickly glancing at a few of their reviews, but we were right outside and it smelled delicious. We gave Bangkok Royal a chance and I'm so glad that we did! It was pretty crowded inside and I can see why -- it's really good! I ordered the Tom Kha Kai soup (coconut, cilantro, lemon, chicken) and it was the most flavorful soup I've had in a long time. My husband ordered a chicken entree (I can't recall which one) and a sampler appetizer that included a variety of options, and everything we tried was delicious. This was our last stop on our day trip before heading back to Dallas, so I proclaimed it a celebration. You can't have a celebration without champagne, so we ordered a bottle which was only $9! It wasn't a large bottle but not the small single-serve ones either -- just a medium-sized one but we were able to get about 2 full glasses each! Such a great price! If you're looking for Thai in Waco, Bangkok Royal is your place. Now that I'm thinking about it, this may be the best Thai I've had since living in Texas and I've been to at least 8 different spots. This little place is a gem in the middle of Waco!!! We happened upon this place while walking around late at nite a few weeks ago. It was closing time n they let us sit and order food! I was going thru a no meat thing and they were even able to accommodate that too!! I grew up eating Thai food and my sister owned a Thai restaurant so I'm Extremely picky when it comes to eating out. This place was pretty damned good!! When I asked them to make me some Nam Phrik they also knew what the hell I was talking about n brought out the RIGHT ONE and it was GREAT!!! While going there for lunch today, a man who identified himself as the owners son and the cook, was extremely rude. He started off being rude to my wife when we arrived. After waiting 5 minutes to be seated because there was no one at the front. But when we ordered, he said he didn't recommend what we ordered. We want the Sweet Rama and he said there are much better things for us to order. Which is a really terrible way to present your food to us, he said he knew there were better because he made the peanut sauce batch himself. So I said, "why is it on the menu if you don't want us to order it?". At that point he gave us the middle finger and it all went to hell at that point. What a rude person!!! It's located downtown so the location is good. The interior is really nice. I like the aesthetics. It's very appropriate for Thai food. The service was very good and the food was satisfactory. We had calamari for an appetizer and that was really good. My boyfriend had Pad Kee Mao and that was really tasty. I had Pad Thai, I've had better. It didn't have much flavor. Honestly, meh. I was looking forward to having some good Thai after a trip, but unfortunately I didn't find it here. The manager and servers were incredibly nice about accommodating our huge group and did well with taking our orders and getting the food out quickly. I ordered the pad kee mow - the noodles were different than normal pad kee mow dishes. It looked like all the noodle dishes had the same pad thai-type thinner rice noodles. What's not to like about Thai food? Lunch time is my favorite time to go, as you get a spring roll and a soup or salad with your entree (I recommend the soup--a simple and delightful veggie/ginger/chicken concoction). My go-to item is the Bangkok Noodle dish--it is so tasty! I've had the Pad Thai too, but it has that definite authentic, funky kick (probably from fish sauce) that I have to be in the mood for. I also love their Thai Iced Tea or Thai Iced Coffee--both of which are decadent and a sweet, creamy treat. They would go well with a spicy dish, if you're into that. The portions are generous, and I almost always leave with a full belly AND a box of leftovers for later. This is our first time visiting Bangkok Royal. I was hesitant because of the reviews but I missed Thai food and haven't had much since leaving California. We started with some simple things, fried rolls, calamari, yellow curry, and pad see ew and enjoyed it. The curry had a good flavor with a little bite to it, but not overpowering. The pad see ew was lighter in color but still had good flavor. I have sensitive taste buds and there are times when I've had rolls made with veggies that are starting to go bad so it's sour, but these tasted fresh and crisp. The Good: They have a few pretty authentic Bangkok style items. Yes, they caramelize their fried rice and noodles which is an awesome thing. Their curry pastes are de-tuned for western palates, but you can ask them to dial it up to the 'Thai burn-yo-Bo Hot' if you so desire. They will second guess you the first time, but it is possible if you insist. If you have travelled SE Asia and Thailand, this is the best thing we have going in Waco, other than dropping into a Thai Family's home... I am open for an invite!!! The decor in the room is nice, but it does get loud when crowded. The Bad: Not all of their dishes are authentic. Steer well away from the pseudo Asian dishes that fill the menu. I suppose they are there to appease those who were dragged into the restaurant with the rest of the family. I had a bad experience here and will choose not to come back. First, when we were sat, they were out of menus so I had to share one. Not that big of a deal, but it went downhill from there. It appeared that there were only two servers for the entire, crowded restaurant. It took awhile to order, then after we did it took almost AN HOUR to get our food! An hour for food? I could've walked next door and been in and out in the time it took for me to even start to eat. Even more, our sever took the next table of two's order and ours at the same time, but theirs came out 20 minutes before ours did and they were done eating before we even received ours. Ridiculous. The food finally came out and while the quantity was good, I was not pleased. I ordered basically the Thai equivalent of the Happy Family from the extensive seafood menu and all the shellfish tasted like dirt. For the amount of money I paid, it was ridiculous, again. This is Waco's only option for Thai food, and luckily it's pretty good (not the BEST, but good). It definitely satisfies my craving for Thai food, and my family goes here at least twice a month. The service is hit or miss just based on the college student that is working, but the owner's son, Pom, is the best and tends to work all of the tables and provides great service. I've never had anything bad, but I recommend the coconut soup with rice (Tom Kha Kai), the Panang Curry, Pad See Ew, the fresh spring rolls, and Thai fried rice. For dessert, you should also try the coconut ice cream. read more

Staying in Waco during the weekend with family, and tried to get some spicy and tasty foods. Thai was the one, It seemed there was only one in town at Bangkok Royal. We got in almost 2pm on Saturday, and not quite busy. The ambience was lil dark inside, but menu items were ok, though. We ordered the appetizer platter and Yum Woon Sen salad, there were not bad but nothing special. We were kinda disappointed on our entrees which were Pad Kee Mow and Pad Kana(Chinese Broccoli). We expected to have wide flat noodle and Asian Chinese broccoli, we got small noodle on Pad Kee Mow, and crown broccoli instead of Chinese broccoli on Pad Kee Mow. Without saying anything if they ran out of those ingredients or just changed the recipe, we thought it is very important to inform clients if you adjust the ingredient because of some severe food allergy. read more

There was only chicken and green peppers in the curry.
