Drunken Man's Fried Rice - Lunch Portion
    Jeff L.

I found myself over an hour early for an appointment and thought I'd grab a quick solo lunch. Bangkok Thai isn't a place we normally go and I was craving some spice so it worked out. Lunch crowd wasn't empty but far from crowded. BT is more aesthetically pleasing than my usual place by far - and the food is good but not quite as good IMHO. I had - no surprise- the drunken man's fried rice sans tomatoes and level 4 of 5. Normally I go to the top of the scale but here a 4 is 'Thai hot' and a 5 is "lava" which scared me. The 4 was perfect but I coming back soon and I'll go for lava. If this is my last review you now know why :) Service was great, friendly and lunch came super quick - too quick for my situation but on a normal work day I would have been delighted. Worth the trip and if you try the lava 5-star heat let me know how it goes!!

    Pad kee mao

My go-to is usually the Pad Kee Mao (Mow), but this time, I was in the mood for curry. Unfortunately, the curry didn't quite hit the mark; it lacked flavor and just wasn't very tasty. I'm not sure if it was because I went for the spiciest spice level, which might have drowned out the other flavors. Whatever the reason, it simply wasn't up to par. I've had better Massaman Curry at My Thai, and that's saying something. Coincidentally, I visited with the same company as my last review in 2019. My bestie, who always opts for the Pad Kee Mao, let me taste hers, and I regretted my Massaman Curry choice. As for the service, it was okay. My best friend and her mom are regulars, and they had a good chat with the possible owner. However, the chatting seemed to take precedence over order writing. This led to a small hiccup where the server forgot about the appetizers they ordered. Luckily, they were full from their meals, and the oversight wasn't a big deal since they weren't charged for the appetizers.

The food was great, and the service was perfect. I'm just a little concerned about cleanliness and potential health code issues. There were parts of the interior that were absolutely filthy. I hope they give the place a good cleaning.

It's ok. We paid $43 for 2 entrees and dumplings. I would definitely not recommend the dumplings. Pictured is the volcano chicken, once again just ok. I ordered spicy level 2, definitely recommend at least a 3, there was not much spice. HOWEVER, the service was amazing.

From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with a smile from the host/server and manager, then quickly seated. The restaurant, tucked away behind Kroger, was very clean and quaint. I asked the server for recommendations, and he shared with me his personal favorites. I ordered the spring rolls and the chicken pad odd. My food came out quickly. It was fresh, hot, and full of amazing flavor!! All I can say is wow!!I You've got to try this place! And ask for Jacob to be your server! He's amazing!

Of all the Thai places in Bloomington, this is the best Thai restaurant! The only downside, it is the most expensive. The Thai style chicken wings were delicious, crunchy, the sauce was amazing, but the meat quality was a 4/5. Now the Pad Thai was phenomenal! It had a great flavor, not too spicy, and the noodles were exquisite. In my opinion, a Thai restaurant is only as good as their Pad Thai and that's why Bangkok is the best in Bloomington! I will be heading back there again and strongly recommend it.

    Pad See Ew

We have been here once before and enjoyed it. We sat outside and seemed to be forgotten a bit, but the food made up for it. My husband had the Panang Salmon which he enjoyed. I had the Pad See Ew which lacked heat even though I ordered hot. I ordered a side of sweet and sour sauce which helped. It was worth the extra $1.00 they charged me for it. Overall I would come back.

Nowhere near the best Thai in town, although eastside location is tempting. Just not flavorful.

I really like Little Tibet! I have tried all sorts of stuff from the menu and I think the dumplings…read moreand the Thai are the best choices. Their vegetarian dumplings are all tasty but each is a little different. I've only tried the steamed so far because I really like the tenderness of the steamed version. The dumplings come with soy sauce and chili sauce for dipping, which are not optional - you need to dip them for the best experience. The chili sauce isn't too hot, so you can and should be generous with it. The Tibetan tea is interesting - it's a smooth milk tea, kind of like a milder version of Indian chai, but it does have its own unique taste that I can't totally put my finger. Other drinks are all good too, thought some aren't exactly as you might expect. The iced Indian tea is a little milky for my taste but the hot version is stronger. The Thai iced coffee is great but it's less sweet than the usual ones (not inherently good or bad, just depends on your preference). The mango lassi tasted closer to mango juice, but it was really refreshing. All of the food is kind of different from the usual restaurant style food from the various cuisines represented on the menu; it feels more like home cooking, so more subtle flavours, less salty and a little lighter, but very wholesome and hearty. The hotter spice level comes from a chili paste they add, and I recommend getting at least a level 2 (level 1 is no spice), because the chili paste also flavours the dish and level 2 is still pretty mild. The people are very kind and I love the calming atmosphere. I have seen them get busy in the evening on weekends, but usually you can count on being able to get a table.

Their response was "chef tried his best". The bill was over $100 so we were just hoping for an adjustment for the bill. I work in restaurants and I hate when people don't give us a chance to fix things. The satay was SAD. It was obviously random chicken breasts sliced and no marination or flavor. The beef was gray and looked boiled. I don't think there was a bit of salt anywhere in any dish. The mango lassi was watery and thin. Seems like they're cutting corners everywhere. When I picked up the food they didn't have a drink carrier or a box for me to carry 2 bags and 3 styrofoam cups out with. So, in review, if you like food that tastes like water (literally) and underwhelming, this is your place. If you expect flavor and precision, professionalism and a great experience, go elsewhere. Sorry guys, we gave you a chance to fix it but now everyone needs to hear about it!

Appetizer came out quickly and entrees came out when the appetizer was 3/4 gone. Perfect timing. The edamame appetizer was hot and had plenty of salt, which is exactly how I like it (9.5/10)! I had the crispy chicken with pineapple (served in half of a pineapple) and spouse had the orange chicken. He said his was good (8/10), but I loved the pineapple chicken (9.8/10). He had no leftovers, I left with about half of my entree. We took a mango sticky rice to go and then drove around town for about 45 minutes before going back to the hotel to eat it (for context - I'm sure it's even better eaten in the restaurant). Even with it sitting at room temperature in a styrofoam container for about an hour after preparation, it's still a 9.9/10 for me. The mango sticky rice was a perfect ending to an excellent meal. When in Bloomington again, we will definitely be back. We may visit again before leaving town - it's that good.

My Thai on the westside of Bloomington is not merely a restaurant…read more It is an institution. A temple. A weekly ritual site. A blessed carbohydrate-and-curry sanctuary where my family has been eating once a week for ten years, which in restaurant loyalty years is basically a dynastic blood oath. I have eaten here through different seasons of life, different levels of exhaustion, different versions of myself, and probably several minor existential collapses. And through it all, My Thai has remained the most consistent restaurant I have ever eaten at. Not "pretty consistent." Not "usually good." I mean shockingly, mathematically, almost suspiciously consistent. Like somewhere in the back there is a monk, a wizard, and a very serious Thai grandmother operating a flavor reactor calibrated by NASA. My go-to is the Pad Prik King with chicken, because I am a simple man with a complicated nervous system and a deep spiritual need for spicy green beans. The green beans come in hot and crunchy like they are ready to fight for their honor. The sauce is rich, spicy, savory, and just the right amount of "hello, your face is awake now." The chicken is there doing noble chicken work. Bawk bawk, little warrior. Bawk bawk. This dish does not ask for attention. It seizes it. It kicks open the door wearing sunglasses, throws a handful of basil into the air, and says, "Get in, we're going to flavor town, but the weird respectable Bloomington version." And the best part? It is always good. Always. For ten years. Do you understand how rare that is? I have seen empires rise and fall faster than the quality control at My Thai. The service is friendly, the food is dependable, and the whole place has the comforting energy of, "Yes, the world is strange and unstable, but your Pad Prik King will still arrive correctly." That matters. Five stars. Ten years of loyal service. My Thai westside is one of Bloomington's great constants, and my spicy green bean chicken kingdom remains undefeated. BIG BADA BOOM!

We started with the ttuk kko chi which were rice cakes covered in a gochujang sauce. The cakes were crispy on the outside but soft on the inside. The sauce it was in was amazing, balancing the heat from the gochujang with some sweetness. Next, we got the Korean fried chicken (they were out of KFC wings). I remember the sauce being a little more red last time, but it was still good. Super crispy exterior and no excess batter so we just tasted the juicy chicken. The two entrees we got were the spicy chicken and jaeyuk. The spicy chicken was flavorful and tender. Along with the chicken, the veggies were stir fried nicely and coated in the broth. The jaeyuk was a little better with the pork having a great marinade and also being super tender. On top of the food we ordered, we were given a salad, soup, and rice which were all nice accompaniments. This was the meal I was looking forward to the most in my return and it did not disappoint. The only and I mean only thing to change is having bigger napkins on the table. Everything else is great and most importantly all the food is delicious.
