Came to Bangs when I was in town for a wedding. I reached out to David here on Yelp only a few days prior to see if he had any openings for a blowout, and he was quick to respond and accommodate! I dropped in at 9 am on a Saturday and he was ready and waiting. He is so fast and thorough, and before I knew it, I left with a beautiful blowout and curled style. He is so kind and we had such a good conversation. The salon is warm and inviting, and I can tell he welcomes all types of clients, male or female, from young to older! Also...I'm not sure what kind of wizardry he uses but it's 2 days later and my hair is still looking great, even after I was rained on! I've never had anyone else achieve that. GO HERE! I went to get a perm and the stylist (Lisa!) explained to me that while she would do whatever I ask, here are the # of reasons why a perm would be a bad idea for my hair at this time, possible outcomes, and what would need to be done in order to get the best outcome. SHE WAS FANTASTIC! How many people take money out of their own pocket for your benefit??? The person how cut and colored my hair was Lisa she was very professional and kind I needed a cut and color before Derby they where quick at getting back with me and getting me in. I loved the cut and color she did a little extra to make me look good since I had been ill. Parking was not great is my only complaint. read more

To quote the owner, "We're not fancy here." Which is one if the things I adore about this spot. Right in the heart of downtown, hidden in plain sight, is a three chair salon. Owned and operated by a hilarious man named David who's been in the business for 38 years, it's a chill joint that's focused on making you look good, not selling you a bunch of bougie product. I know I've left a review before but I love going here for my hair. They are just the best. I'm a wheelchair user and they are more than accommodating with anything I throw at them lol like today when I had to get my hair done because I had surgery last week and they had to shave a third of my hair. I still have stitches that will heal in but that didn't stop them from working on my hair and making me feel great again! Holy smokes! I made an appt here for a wedding guest updo after reading reviews. I was flying to Louisville and unfamiliar with any place in the vicinity. David was easy and quick to communicate with and assured me he'd get my hair done with plenty of time before attending the wedding. He's a ninja master at hair. No other description needed. In less than 10-15 minutes, I had a beautiful sweeping updo that stayed ALL night through a warm spring night with lots of dancing. It was exactly what I wanted. How lucky could I get? Staying at the Omni Hotel I make an appointment at Bangs & came to realize on the day of my appointment that it was right around the corner. Just visited last weekend for the Kentucky Derby & I made 2 appointments with Lisa. What a treat. But then I imagine everyone there is marvelous. David , the owner is wonderful & Kimmy is terrific. Great place very close to the Omni. I had a wonderful stylist who gave me a great blowout/flat iron and knew just what she was doing. It was also a great price. I requested a Deva Cut and I did not get one. My bangs are shorter than requested and uneven. I got layers on one side and a "Jesus fix it" on the other side. Soooooooo disappointed. It looked ok when I left but when I was still pulling cut curls out of my hair an hour later I began to realize something was very wrong. Sorry. This place is awesome. The staff was kind, welcoming, and funny while going above and beyond. I was in town for work and they took me last minute and did a great job. Stay away from this place. I was in Louisville about a year ago for a wedding, and went to this place for a quick, easy style. I asked the stylist to shampoo and just blow dry my fine, shoulder length hair. He had no idea how to perform this easy task. He did a horrible job with washing it, didn't use a conditioner, even though i asked him to do so. Once done towel drying, he was pulling my hair and struggling with the curling iron. He messed up my hair so badly, when i got out of there i looked like i just got our of a wind tunnel. I had to go to my hotel, wash it and style it myself. i have to get my cuts on the road since i travel constantly for months at a time. I try to avoid barber shops. Most often good salons are booked way in advance which does me no good. I sent appointment request through Yelp (first time) and was replied to immediately and had an appointment right away on a Thursday. I arrived 30 minutes early (my misread on appointment time) and was still taken within 5 min. Christina knew exactly how I wanted my hair cut and had a shampoo to boot. Great service - great value. In town for a convention, I needed a (men's) haircut so looked at the Yelp reviews; they are spot on. My stylist (James Long) gave me a most excellent haircut. It was near the end of the day but they worked me in and gave me a great cut. James gave me a razor cut that was perfectly shaped and even, then shampooed it out so I was all set to go. He even gave some good tips in terms of how best to shampoo and how to apply product. Who knew that for the past 40+ years I've been BOTH shampooing wrong AND applying product wrong?!? Plus Mr. Long struck me as a genuinely nice guy; we talked about cars, about family and about life. To me getting a haircut should be more than just getting the job done, it's also a nice time to just sit and chat. My only regret is that I don't live here in Louisville or this would be my new barber. Long story short, fantastic haircut, fantastic people, fantastic business. read more

When I go for appointments when Lisa asks what we're doing I generally respond by telling her to do whatever. She likes playing with color as much as I do.
