Walking into this sandwich shop, I was immediately drawn to the fun and vibrantly painted wall murals which I really liked! I ordered the #1 which was their special sandwich with a few meats such as pate, bbq pork, jambon and some other items in it. Also the #3 grilled beef and scallion sandwich along with a Vietnamese iced and hot coffee with condensed milk. The sandwich baguettes were fresh and quite good. I am big on condiments and both sandwiches did have mayo and veg but a little on the skimpier side. They were tasty don't get me wrong but I will ask for add ons next time for extra meat and veg filling. Also, heavier on the house made mayo too. The iced coffee was good as well but not as strong as what I'm accustomed to in sweetness and coffee flavor. Service here is good and the wait wasn't too long. An absolutely delicious Vietnamese banh mi Sandwich spot that could rival any of the places in New York city. Totally unexpected in Albany but this was definitely a very pleasant surprise that stood out amongst the other nondescript American bar food type lunch options in downtown albany. I usually order the #1. I'm a fan of their baguettes. They definitely seem to be baked in-house, and they're so delicious. The freshness of the bread alone can justify the higher cost of their sandwiches relative to some of the Vietnamese banh mi I've been to. On top of the fact that the aren't many banh mi shops in the area, and it's located downtown (which ups the price), I think pricing is fair. Service can be really quick at times. The location is great and the interior is clean, modern, and cute. The reason this is not a 5 is because the sandwich was not well stuffed. Although flavorful, the amount of ingredients were light. I understand food costs and inflation have an impact on expenses, but I'd rather have paid $2 extra for more fillings. Otherwise, there is too much bread and not enough fillings. There was one long narrow cucumber strip and one sprig of cilantro. The amount of tofu was on the lighter side as well. I have been craving for Vietnamese food and today was the day I decided to drive down around 20 miles so I can fulfill my craving for some French infused vietnamese submarine/sub that contains baguette, pickled vegetables, green onion, coriander/cilantro, a mighty wack of fresh chillies/jalapeños and drizzle of seasoning/sauce. My first experience eith Banh mi was in the streets of Hanoi and later Hoi An in Vietnam. Like any other sub, it all starts with bread.....and I loved the sub with right consistency of the bread (a Lil crunch on the outside, soft on the inside) with fresh ingredients making you feel light on your stomach. Though my check-ins are a lot of cafes, I'm not a coffee drinker. I only taste or take a sip of coffee unless I'm really sick and lose my taste for everything. However, I loved the Vietnamese coffee during my trip to vietnam. I tried their iced espresso at the restaurant and it failed to bring my taste buds on my to tongue its original Vietnamese coffee experience (may be because the one I had in Vietnam had alcohol and much more thicker) but note that a hardcore coffee drinker appreciated the taste of the coffee and finished it all. I'll go back to the restaurant to try their hot coffee. The menu is priced to be competitive and should be a good stop for a lunch for all the people working there. Unlike other businesses in the area, they are open weekends. The owners are graduates of a local college, Siena, that I went to as well. Hopefully your business along with other newer businesses on the street bring back some traffic and life to a dead downtown on a weekend. Keep up the great work. read more

I've been waiting to try a báhn mi from here for months and I'm so glad I finally did. I ordered the "Special " With extra pickled vegetables And a Jasmine green bubble tea. The roll was light, airy and crispy. It was a good contrast and didn't overpower the filling. The filling ratio was good but I ordered extra pickled veg and honestly still added a little vinegar when I got home. I also wish there had been more Paté, it was spread super thin. Other than that I really enjoyed the sandwich. The bubble tea was unsweetened Jasmine tea because they make their flavored teas with milk powders which I don't like. The tea was good and so was the boba. The owner was super friendly and my sandwich was ready in a jiff. I was at the Holiday Market when I saw that there was a banh mi place connected to the Kenmore! Originally I just wanted a sandwich, but my boyfriend couldn't resist getting a pate chaud as well. The pate chaud was actually quite tasty and would have been perfect if it wasn't so cold :( but the layers of the puff pastry were nice and flaky and the meat was succulent. The banh mi was also solid; we got the dac biet (because how else do you judge the quality of a banh mi shop? Gotta have all the different meats!). The bread was soft on the inside with a delicate crunch on the exterior, and the pickled veggies were just the right level of acidity. I loved the xa xiu, but was a little thrown off because the rest of the meats were so...smooth o_O Apparently that's how they do it on the East Coast? I did see people commenting on how there wasn't enough meat, but I thought there was plenty in proportion to the banh mi itself. The only thing is that ~$9 is a tall order for a sandwich of that size. Regardless, I commend Banh Mi 47 for introducing Albany to Vietnamese cuisine, as there is much more to it than just pho! I also saw that they sourced their coffee from Nguyen Coffee Supply, which is a Vietnamese-American, women-owned company, so I thought that was great. read more

The bread - Oh the bread, perfect is truly the word, crisp outside with fluffy air inside, the crust holding in the mix of warm and cool, crisp salty, savory and hint of spice from the jalapeños... say yes to the Jalapeños. The combination flavors that comes together when it's good and I mean really good- the creamy Mayo against the pickled daikon, cukes and cilantro.... And the warm slices of chicken. Bánh Mì is delicious, one of the things I really miss being meat-free, so when I heard Báhn Mì 47 had the coveted new Impossible "pork" on one of their sandwiches, I had to make it priority! Their Xiu Mai Chay -- Impossible pork meatballs, tomato sauce, mayo, soy sauce, fresh crunchy veg -- is really yummy. The balance of flavor, texture, and temperature gives you the perfect bite every time. But it's really the bread that steals the show here, dare I say that's it's the perfect Báhn Mì baguette -- crispy on the outside with the softest airiest inside -- yet doesn't fall apart when you start eating it. Super excited to have a Banh Mi restaurant in Albany since I haven't been to one in ages. Coming from NYC, I wasn't expecting much, but was pleasantly surprised. The bread was definitely the star of the show. The baguette had a crispy crust on the outside and a soft airy texture on the inside. The fresh ingredients gave my taste buds the sensation of flavors that I missed very much. From the salty meat, spicy jalapeño, crisp cilantro, tangy pickled carrots and daikon, to the cooling sliver of a cucumber. It's the perfect combination of flavors in a submarine that will have you asking for more. They traveled extremely well from restaurant to home and was packaged with care. Being Asian, this sandwich brought back nostalgia memories. Taking me back to when my mom used to buy me Bahn Mi in Chinatown or when my friends and I would get this for a cheap and flavorful lunch. It made me miss my friends and family, but also reminded me that life is too short and I should probably give them a call. I am extremely happy that I ordered two sandwiches with one to save for later. I will definitely be back to explore the rest of the menu especially their vegetarian options. read more

I'm thrilled to have a banh mi restaurant in Albany. I haven't had the chance to grab the delicious, filling, and cheap as sin banh mi from NYC for years and have been getting by making my own (with less-than-satisfying French bread). The Banh Mi 47 location was clean and bright on my visit. The staff were all appropriately masked and friendly. The sandwich came out so quick, and cost a reasonable $8 after tax. The lemongrass chicken banh mi was a really tasty lunch. The chicken, for those who have a preference, was chicken thigh. The meat portion was adequate, but could have been slightly more generous (though you can add extra meat for a little extra (about $2). In addition to chicken, the sandwich contained thinly sliced cucumber, shredded carrot and daikon, cilantro, a very light (thankfully) application of Mayo, special sauce, and fresh jalapeño slices (optional, and staff asks if you want them). The "special sauce" ended up being something akin to a slightly spicy duck sauce. The flaky, authentic bread (rice-flour based, I believe) was so satisfying. The veggies were all very fresh. Why hold off the last star? The bahn mi was just a touch lacking in flavor. Although the flavor of the fresh produce shined, I was missing the vinegary bite of the veggies (update: the veggies are pickled, as the owner promised, though my preference is for a bit of a a stronger pickle). A bit of acidity would also have been an added flavor boost, so serving with a lime on the side would be a huge help. However, these are very minor gripes for an overall very enjoyable sandwich. I hope Banh Mi 47 is here for a long tenure in Albany, as it's a really great addition to the lunch scene! read more

What a great addition to downtown's lunch scene! There are so many vacant storefronts right now that it is nice to see something new and different popping up. I tried the Xa Xiu (pork) sandwich with all of the fixings. First I just need to say that this bread is EXCELLENT. Airy and soft but with a great crackly crust. I also really liked the flavor of the pork although I had a few bits that were very fatty. I also wish there was slightly more meat included to round things out. Other toppings were tasty and balanced. My jalapeños were super hot. I mean, I like spicy but these guys really packed a wallop. Which is a good thing in my book! read more

I got three bahn mi's to split my roommate. Almost lemongrass chicken. Mama's beef and the other one was sausages had tagged and they were all awesome. I think I like to be the best but I do like the sausage with Pate it wasn't like regular sausage like I think I'm sausage it look like a thin slice the size of Abalone but it was like a light cream of White Collar. Think it look like liverwurst but it had a mild taste and they put lots of pickled I carrots and daikon on it along with some cilantro and the sandwiches are just awesome. So we got a milk tea in a taro to you need to try them we both love the charity. It was probably the best multi ate a butt think I wish it had been sweeter. Looking for a milk tea that is not horribly bitter and it's sweet sweet they came close. My roommate went in to grab the food so I don't know anything about the inside. Their have a website they have drinks and I think six types of sandwiches. So my pictures aren't so hot because I took video, but in order to share something it has to be pictures. Stopped by for a quick lunch on our road trip to Vermont and were quite pleased. Fresh baked bread, vegetarian and vegan options, bubble tea and all reasonably priced, could it get any better!? As a vegetarian it's hard to find meat free versions of food I'd love to try sometimes. I couldn't pass up the opportunity to try a vegetarian version of a Bahn Mi. I've had it one other time in Chicago and was excited to try this version. The tofu was very flavorful with a sweet glaze. The pickled veggies and jalapeños added brightness and spice.
