I've been a here three times now and so far everything I have had has been good. I was there a few days ago. I ordered a bbq pork banh mi with egg and a Bun Bo Hue. I had both to go. The soup was tasty...had a lot of depth in flavor. Still remained hot after my 10 minute drive back to work. The spice was on point. The noodles, the meat, the basil, bean sprouts and lime were in a separate container than the soup, which I appreciated. I did wish there was a bit more noodle, but it was by no means a tiny portion. The banh mi was yummy. It had a good portion of meat, the bread was nice and crusty and the pickled vegetables were not overpowering. The lot was $12 and change. The noodle soup and sandwich would have been enough for two. But, being the piggy I am, I ate it all myself. They suggest that you call ahead of time to pick up your order. I tried, but a recording kept coming on. while I was waiting for my food other people had called ahead to get their orders in. Guess it was just me. It's easy to forget what prices are like outside buckhead...after all you can get a whole feast for two for the price of one appetizer in the city. Located in a small, random strip mall as many delicious restaurants of Duluth are, it's unassuming and easy to miss. Very nice people working here, everyone was just genuinely kind. Awesome restaurant. I went with a big group of 20 something people and they really tried their best to speed things up! We also met a girl who happens to go there at least two times a week. The Pho had the deep broth flavor filled with spice that I seek in a quality Pho. Very no frills eatery and one of the guys working there was very pleasant. The price is very fair and I will defintely be back. It was $3.50 or so for Bahn Mi sandwiches and $6.50 for the smallest sized Pho (medium size bowl). The only downside is that the shrimp didn't taste fresh and one of the shrimps in my Pho had a big dirty vein which is a big turn off for me. Randy (our server) made sure we were taken care of and brought our food out very quickly upon taking our order. Service = GREAT From the menu (see pictures attached), my wife and I ordered the Banh Mi Ga (i.e. Banh Mi + Marinated Shredded Chicken) & Banh Mi Dau Hu (Banh Mi + Tofu). We split both of our sandwiches and they were great; especially for $3...can't beat it. And like majority of the reviews have stated, the bread tasted fresh. The marinated chicken was cooked well with good flavor and the tofu was fried and done well. We added pineapple (personal choice) since we're fans on the chicken bahn mi, but a great sandwich overall. The portion was perfect and not overwhelming. Main point: I do not recommend this place because I got a stomach virus from eating their rice bowl and banh mi. They weren't even good and I had to throw it away. Place is not clean. Full details I wasn't planning on writing this review at all and I'll tell you why. I was in the area and one of my friends suggested me this place. According to her, their banh mi are really good so I wanted to try it out. As soon as I walked in it was almost empty. There was a gentleman sitting by himself eating. I quickly realized there was only one staff member working that day. It was my first (and last unfortunately) time there so I don't know if it was maybe a bad day and she was short on staff or I don't know but she was taking orders and making the food in the kitchen. As I waited for my food I was looking around and the place wasn't clean and the kitchen didn't seem clean at all from afar. I was worried but I saw the lady working by herself so I felt bad and I decided to give her a chance. I ordered a rice bowl with shrimp, steak and pork and omg I'm sorry but it was really bad. Very greasy, steak was hard and the veggies were soaked in a weird sauce or liquid because it wasn't a sauce. I also ordered the pork banh mi and both were really bad. I didn't even finish it. Stopped by here after a fantastic morning/ afternoon at Jeju. Needless to say, I was ravenous. Couple of yelp searches revealed that this place was around the corner! My friend has gluten allergies so she was thrilled to have pho. Her broth looked clean, not too greasy and she enjoyed it. I was eyeballing her little side plate...lots of good looking basil, bean sprouts, lime and jalapeño. Looked a little skimpy on the meat for me, but she didn't complain. For some reason, I wasn't in a pho mood and I was thrilled that Bahn Mi cafe had a pretty big menu. I opted for a BBQ pork bahn mi and and order of cha gio. Would totally pass on the cha gio (and probably get another sandwich...caus I'm a pig) but my bahn mi was tasty. Banh Mi Cafe (BMC) is a hidden gem and easy to miss on Satellite Boulevard near Gwinnett Mall. Simply look for their location at a shopping strip next to Enterprise Rent-A-Car. They serve authentic Vietnamese cuisine and the times that I have been here, I have not been disappointed. I was introduced to this place by a friend of mine. The following items on the menu I have tried are: Appetisers: Tom Cuon ($3) These are two shrimp rolls that are tasty and it came with a side hoisin sauce with bits of peanuts as your dipping sauce. Each spring roll had four huge shrimps and vegetables tucked inside the roll. They are a healthier choice with no frying oil involved. Beverages: Banana Mango smoothie, Coconut smoothie ($3.50) Both these smoothies I tried were great! They are thick in their consistencies and not watered down. It's especially good during the hot summer months. Bahn Mi Sandwiches: Bahn Mi Nem Nuong ($3.50) This sandwich had the eight inch French baguette that was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. It was filled with Vietnamese sweet sausages and some shredded vegetable likes fresh carrots, cilantro, daikon, cucumber and jalapeno. There were some mayonnaise and pate spread that added lots of flavor to a delicious sandwich. Pho: Pho Tai ($6) My Vietnamese beef noodle soup had eye round steak as the choice of protein with noodles and a medley of vegetables like fresh cilantro, basil, onions and bean sprouts. The broth had a nice taste and was not too overpowering with spices. There is always a bottle of hot spicy sauce on the table if you wanted to kick it up a notch or two. Bun: Bun Tom Nuong Cha Gio ($7.75) Grilled shrimps and egg rolls with Vermicelli noodles were simply delicious with some fresh vegetables and a side fish sauce to add on more flavor accordingly. The shrimps were grilled just right and were very tasty and tender. Egg rolls came in very small bite sizes and I would have prefered the regular egg rolls made and cut to small pieces instead. There were shredded carrots, lettuce and fried onions that blended well with the Vermicelli noodles. The fish sauce was tangy with sweet and spicy goodness that I had to request for another dipping sauce. It's a pure, pungent yet subdued nectar sent from the fermented fish gods to grace our breaths and Viet inspired dishes. Com: Com Chien Bo Luc Lac ($8.95) You cannot go wrong ordering this dish. The fried rice was served with marinated "shaking beef" tenderloins that was stir-fried to perfection. There were fresh grilled bell peppers, caramelized onions, red peppers and lettuce added to make the entire dish wonderful. I would most certainly order this dish again and again. I had the pleasure of meeting the owners of this small mom and pop restaurant. The chef herself told me she enjoyed cooking Vietnamese food for almost two decades. That is quite an accomplishment and the food served here is very fresh and authentic to Vietnamese cuisine. The ambience is a casual setting and it is actually bigger on the inside than it looked on the outside. I will surely be back to BMC soon especially when I am hungry for a flavorful yet inexpensive meal. I have always been here on weekends and the food comes out very quickly with a smile from the friendly staff. The text started with "Have you ever had a Vietnamese sandwich?" And ended with seeing each other in a little pocket of Duluth that could be mistaken for Little Vietnam. Ok I am exaggerating about the décor, but this café is still cute and the food is definitely authentic. I found out about this place two years ago when it first opened. They had a scout mob. When I was looking at the scout mob, it said they feature a banana thai smoothie. My friend and I were in shock! We HAD to try it! So after class or skipping class one day, not sure exactly which one, we ended up having lunch here. We were excited about these smoothies, but they were out that day. Womp womp... However, we ended up having amazing pho and fresh spring rolls with thai iced tea instead. My friend's pho was too authentic for her, but my pho ga was perfect. Years later, I am back with my friend looking for a relatively healthy sandwich and we end up here again. I finally got to try the Banana Thai Smoothie years later and it was definitely amazing! Thai tea and banana make an interesting mix. We also tried the BBQ Pork Spring Rolls which were on the sweeter side. I didn't think the peanut sauce really went with them because the peanut and sweet bbq didn't really mix, but they are good by themselves and they tasted really fresh with the cilantro. For our banh mi sandwiches, which most are either $3.00 or $4.00 so they're definitely economical, I tried the grilled shrimp one and my friend tried the spicy bbq pork one. Both were great! I have only had a few banh mi sandwiches and the spice level was perfect for me, because the last banh mi sandwich I had was way too spicy. Do Vietnamese people like their foods spicy similar to Indians? I love trying to find cultural similarities and differences. On a side note, this location is closed on Thursdays and a lot of Indian places are closed on Mondays. Anyways, I enjoyed my shrimp banh mi because of the seasoning on the shrimp. For dessert we got banana fried spring rolls. They were interesting also, but I think I was already full by the time I ate these. The owner Michael is super nice and his wife Chef Ngoc Thi is so cute! She brought out the banana spring rolls to us. We were the only ones in the store and you can tell the couple who own this place really care about the quality of their food, the experience of their customers, and the different dishes that they have. They have so many different types of banh mis and phos that I will have to come back to try one of their more creative dishes. I was really surprised by this place. The Bahn Mis are so cheap but it's a really big size and really good. I got the B2 which was only $3. The bread was really warm and crisp and it was overflowing with Bbq meat. I wish there was a little more radish and carrots but can't complain with the amount of meat. The coffee was a bit of a weak spot here, not bad, just okay. Sandwich and coffee came out a little over $5. So I have been here a few times already & the service is really friendly. It is a small family owned restaurant, so do not expect top of the line service. It has one dollar sign. I came for the first time based on Yelp reviews. I wanted something light and healthy. Banh mi sounded good. I was the only customer there around 4 pm. I ordered grilled shrimp banh mi with avocado smoothie. Both were excellent. Banh mi was perfect. The ingredients were fresh and seasoned right. The bread was really good. The smoothie was amazing. That was my first time getting avocado smoothie. I was hesitant when the waiter suggested avocado smoothie of all smoothies when I asked which is most popular. This is the first experience here since our favorite spot closed. Here's my take. Called the order in. Got there, the staff was sitting around, only to find the order was not prepared, at all! What was ordered was the Banh Mi sandwiches. What a disappointment!!! Got home thinking we would enjoy the sandwiches, they were loaded with far too many Jalapeno pepper, an abundance of wilted carrot's, #cucumber peels, or the thinnest sliced cucumber's ever, the steak meat (B2) was difficult to chew and the two 'B1's,' ordered only had 2 to 3 meats, instead of 5...totally not as described online! They were all, as dry as, cracker's! A very unfriendly and unprofessional bunch! Love coming here to get Banh Mi. My favorite is the BBQ pork with extra avocado. mmmmmm. yummy. Prices are reasonable around $3.50 each. Buy 5, get 1 free. The pho here is okay, nothing special in my opinion but I do like the broth better compared to some places. One thing I would keep in mind is not asking for extra meat. They don't give you much even for a $3 up charge. Not worth it in my opinion. Service is just okay, but I don't usually expect much from a place like this. I actually think BuHi's Pho Dai Loi's eggrolls are better in presentation and taste. BBQ Pork Banh Mi - Bread was good. The meat was bland. Definitely need to up their game on this. The boyfriend and I decided to stop here the other day while we were waiting on an oil change from across the street. This is a fairly new addition to the plethora of Vietnamese restaurants that are lining Satellite Blvd/Pleasant HIll. Atmosphere: This place is very bare bone when it comes to ambiance. It's definitely casual with just standard tables and chairs with individual racks of condiments and sauces at each table. Since it was new, it looked really unfinished with an empty bank mi set-up in one corner and a printer/laptop set out on one of the tables. I thought this was kind of odd. Definitely not a place you would take a date, but acceptable if you're just in the mood for a quick bite to eat. Food: We ordered banh mi and they were fresh and delicious. I got the banh mi dac biet (special with cold cuts) and loved that they used a blended xiu mai in it instead of just duck liver pate at some other places. The boyfriend enjoyed his banh mi thit nhong (bbq pork) and liked that it was slightly charred for a more smokey flavor. Good meat-to-veggies ratio (YAY for meat!). The banh mi here start at $3, which is a little more than the $2.50 at most places (VN Tofu and Quoc Huong) but I think they were definitely worth the extra cost as oppose to driving all the way down to Buford Hwy to go to Quoc Huong. They have other entrees on the menu such as pho, bun (vermicelli), and wet/dry mi (noodle dishes) that averaged $7. Service: The owner greeted us when we walked in and made sure everything was satisfactory. He was also a good salesman since we came in wanting just 2 banh mi and ended up leaving with 4 more (Buy 5, get 1 free banh mi). All I can say is wow!! This place is really a hole in the wall!! I've always seen it whenever driving down satellite but just never wanted to stop by because it was so dingy looking! I just felt like it was going to be old and nasty inside. Well, I was right, it was old and they definitely need an update. However, the food is delicious! They have Bun Oc (escargot vermicelli)!!! I haven't been able to find a place with tasty bun oc or any kind of bun oc for that matter! The broth is flavorful and aromatic, granted it's not as good as the one in Houston I've had but it hits the spot! They definitely don't skimp on escargot at all! My boyfriend and his boys stopped by this spot 4 times last week and their pho, banh mi, com ga sao xa ot (spicy lemongrass chicken), and hu tieu ap chao (pan fried seafood noodles), are on point! Everything is so flavorful. I would stay away from bun bo hue (spicy hue beef noodles). It wasn't the correct meat and it doesn't have the Lemongrass taste. I read an earlier review that said there was too much of the lemon grass, and I just didn't taste it. I would go elsewhere for this dish. Very disappointing. I think they used their bo kho broth for it. In that case, their bo kho probably not good either. I don't know but definitely check it out and the owner is super nice and for the price, can't beat it. read more

I don't know if I just went on an off day, but it didn't fit in with all the wonderful reviews. We ordered 4 different things to get a taste of a few different things. I just moved from the Buford Hwy area with Lee's Bakery and Quoc Huong as my usual Banh mi places and what I ordered just didn't match up. BBQ spring rolls: the bbq pork is just not what I'm used to. It was thicker and dryer. The spring roll skin needed to be soaked in warm water longer to be less hard and chewy. BBQ Banh Mi: again the pork was weird. The pickled radish and carrots were sparse. I feel like the pickled vegetables are what make the taste of these sandwiches and there wasn't enough flavor. Banh Mi with Garlic Sausage: definitely had more flavor than the bbq banh mi, but I was not the biggest fan of the sausage. It was kind of like a hot dog consistency. My husband said it was okay for him though. Combination Banh Mi: My husband ordered this one and seemed to enjoy it. Even though this place is Banh Mi cafe maybe the noodle and rice dishes are better than the banh mis? I AM willing to go back and try some other dishes. BBQ sandwiches are always my favorite so I may even order that again to make sure it is not an off day. read more

I am Actually extremely surprised for not discovering this place sooner ... All I can say is I'm hooked and can't wait to come back and try different things . Very casual place with excellent food!! And That's what most food lovers be looking for at times, reason I'm here :)) I had the barbecue sandwich & spring roll which was fantastic and let's not mention CHEAP .. I was trying to give Banh Mi Cafe another chance but after today. NOPE! Bye Felicia. I am planning a big cultural party for the company I work for and banh mi was suggested as one of the food items for lunch. Because of a few other banh mi places weren't available on that particular day, more like a Tuesday, I figured I'm going to try to call Banh Mi Cafe since I really like Quoc Huong's banh mi (the co-owner used to work there) the best in Atlanta but they are cash only. Companies like to keep that receipt. Huy's Sandwiches closes on Tuesday's and couldn't fulfill the request since that day is on a Tuesday. All I wanted to know is how far in advance would I need to place the order. I know it's a language barrier but she was so rude. I asked her if she is understanding me. She is thinking I want to order right now. I told her that I'm not. Then she started to yell and said you want to order, what you want to order. I said she is not understanding what I'm asking. She then hung up. My SIL is married to a Vietnamese. I know Vietnamese language, they speak loudly and it's nothing but I felt she could have gotten someone to come on the phone and speak to me to see what I was asking. BBQ pork and Vietnamese sausage banh mi sandwiches both hit the mark. Two make for a big lunch but I wanted to try more than one. As another reviewer said, they taste homemade. The ingredients are simple and fresh, properly proportioned and the baguettes are properly crumbly without falling apart. I found both tasty enough as-is without resorting to the table-ready sriracha. I saw no chili sauce on any of the tables. Maybe it's available if you ask and if you feel the need for a burn.
