Yikes. Unfortunately I have to dock two stars from YANY after I found a huge fly floating in my Banh Canh Cua. I know it's bound to happen but I lost my appetite after I fished this out. Prior to my discovery, the Banh Canh Cua was very tasty. I really like how it's seasoned. Lots of beef slices, crab meat and shrimp. I got thru about a third of the bowl before I saw the fly. I probably won't order this again sadly. The Shaking Beef rice dish is still very good and may opt for that instead from now on. It wasn't too busy so we were a bit uneasy because that can mean the food isn't very good but we were pleasantly surprised! The Pros: Portion, tons of meat and the broth was good. A little on the sweet side but still pretty good. The Cons: (minor) - some of the meat was pretty tough and chewy. Service was also a little slow for a place not too busy but that could simply mean, they take care in preparing your food so I'll let this pass. This is one of my to-go restaurants when I am craving for good, authentic Vietnamese food! I am never disappointed when I come to YANY. I love that they have dishes that a lot of other standard pho restaurants in the area does not have. My favorite dishes are the bo luc lac (best in Atlanta in my opinion, they have this awesome sauce with the salad and it makes such a big difference, bun cha ca, and Banh canh cua. Their egg rolls are yummy as well! The fried rice is always perfect, never dry. The food is delicious and well made. It's authentic. The portion is great for the price. Not too big, not too fancy. Just right! YANY Express is located in the same shopping center as the Hong Kong super market on Jimmy Carter Blvd. I've been to YANY a few times and only had probably 2 items on their menu but it's enough to keep me coming back. If you're wondering, it's their Bun Bo Hue (Noodles w/Beef Broth) and Bun Cha Ga (Noodles w/Fish Broth). Both of those dishes pack tons of flavor. The rest of the menu is very similar to what you find at most Vietnamese/Pho restaurants. Even though I would say this place serves some unique items that are more known to certain regions of Vietnam. The service here is okay. This place is ran by an elderly lady from what I see it's family own for the most part. Once you get your meal don't expect to be seeing your waiter ever again. That's actually normal for these types of places. You won't be blown away by the interior design either. This might not be the place for everyone. There are a lot of options in terms of places to eat in this shopping center. It's really up to you if you want to eat here. I like it. I can tolerate certain things though. Such a cozy little place. Went here with some friends for lunch before heading out for the day yesterday. The canh bun and banh canh cua were the recommended dishes according to my friends. The banh canh was pretty tasty. I liked how the noodles were cut so it was much shorter. Oftentimes the long length is annoying. I do feel like the noodles were overcooked since it was more on the well done side versus the more firm texture. But then again, I haven't had this dish in years so don't quote me on how it is supposed to be cooked. The banh canh overall was tasty, hot, and flavorful. I def liked the creamy texture and would say this dish's rep is on par. Service was pretty attentive for this small and cozy restaurant. I suppose most folks to-go their food. There was a good crowd that dined in at the restaurant when we were there around 11:30 AM. As groups left, more were replaced in lieu of them. I would say parking was plentiful, but as it is in the complex with Hong Kong Market, parking will be crowded. I've been seeing Yany Express food pics on IG from some friends. It made me curious. When I finally Googled it, I was like where is it? Not where I expected since I go to the Hong Kong Supermarket all the time. It's there???? It is not even hidden either but I just pass it cause I go to VN Tofu and Bambu a lot. After an early morning Stone Mountain hiking trip with my cousins from out of town, I wanted them to check out. Mainly cause at 9:30 am, not a lot of places are open that early and my cousins wanted Asian food. They're from WI and love Atlanta and the food scene. They already went to I Luv Pho the prior night. Just walking by Yany and I saw it was already open since 8:30 am! We went inside and sat down. We were the only customers at the time too. Maybe since there were no one else around, we had great service. I didn't see any vegetarian options and asked the waiter and he said it's not listed but they can make anything vegetarian for me, just tell him what I want. I decided on veggie soft egg noodles. When we got our food, which was fast, it was a looot of food. My cousins said the broth tasted so much better than I Luv Pho. They got A LOT of noodles and meat. I didn't take any pics of their food cause they aren't foodies and ate right away, plus they were hungry hehe. We couldn't finish our food. Disclaimer: I'm not a Pho snob (yet). Vietnamese cuisine is still fairly new to my food palate. I'm glad I had one of my first servings of Pho at YANY Express. I enjoyed the subtle taste of the broth, and the array of rice noodles and bean sprouts. The dish MVP? Cilantro. Oh, and the hoisin sauce was a close second, both adding depths of flavor. I still prefer one of my hometown favorites, Yaka mein (or Yakamein) to Pho because the former has a bolder taste, thanks to the spicy beef-based broth. But... I will definitely order many more servings of Pho, and they will come from YANY Express. This time, though, I won't go for the gusto: I ordered a Pho with a combination of meats (?). And my mind wasn't ready for all that I got! (My fault, not theirs. My order of Pho was accompanied by brisket, flank, fat brisket, tendon and tripe.) I'll try it meatless later this week! read more

I've been coming here for years, mainly because it's location is very convenient for me as I'm normally in that shopping plaza in Jimmy Carter when I'm in the area. They'd never really stood out to me, but experience was never bad either. It's a solid place to grab a quick eat.... however, I believe the quality has dropped a few levels. Not much, but enough for me not to return when you've got 2 other very good restaurants just a few steps away. Not to mention the awesome VN tofu a couple doors down. Looks like they'd done a bit of updating on their decor... and the place is clean when not busy. But as I said, quality gone downhill a bit. Yan Express is a borderline 4-star place. I'm giving it three because nothing here really stand out and wow you. Taste A-OK on everything, same for the service. The menu is actually large bu I started with the banh canh cua which tasted pretty good and but half the meat was pork. (odd I mean they have pork banh canh so I don't understand why they feel the need to add thit pork in the cua one as well. The other had com tam and other offerings. I tried a bit of everything and it all tasted ok. The place does need some cleaning, my table smell like old dirty cloth. Overall it's a solid place. Been here twice in the last month and they use to be really good before. But the service so slowwwwww even with 2-3 customers there. The staff stands around and play on their phones and the kitchen is super slow. 20-30 minutes for a bowl of pho and that timer starts after you order. Just a bowl a pho! Most good pho places will get you in and out in 20 minutes from the time you walk in for those in a rush. Located in Hong Kong supermarket shopping area, right next to VN Tofu, this is a decent place to grab a quick bite if you are craving Vietnamese street food. This isn't your mom's goodness & quality homemade meals, but it will fulfill your fast food cravings. I'm usually here for the Canh Bun (thick rice noodle with meat, tofu & vegetables). Especially during summer because rau muong (water spinach) is in season. Rau muong is simply the cream of the crop of all Vietnamese vegetables. It's a poor man's crop but this is a poor man's soul food. Here's my ode to rau muong: sautéed rau muong with garlic, sesame seeds and shrimps, boiled rau muon to dip in soy and lime sauce, rau muong soup, rau muong goi (salad) with shaken beef, bun hen with thin strips of rau muong, you name it, I love it. I dare you not to like it if you get to try all the dishes that has rau muong in it. Now that you know how I feel about rau muong...When I was first introduce to a bun that has rau muong in it, of course I was quick to jump on board. I really like this dish because it combines my love of thick rice noodle with...wait for it, rau muong! However, it can be a little too salty sometimes. Depending on the day and the broth. When rau muong is not in season, they use bok choy. I will go as far to say I enjoy this dish even when it's only available with bok choy. Also, If you are brand new to Vietnamese food, this dish might take some getting used to (because it's seafood/fish flavored broth). It's like the first time you try fish sauce, the after taste might bother you. So this might happen with this particular dish if your palate isn't used to it. Give it a try. If at first you don't like it, try again. I'm always a big believer of "try it twice or trice" before you knock it. :) If I'm not here for the bun canh, then I usually order the bun cha ca (fish cake noodle). read more

Our drinks and desserts has too much ice and so little edible content. Our Sam bo Luong has half cup of edible sweet and the rest is ice. Our Vietnamese coffee has too much ice. Only a few sips and it's gone. Even our soup has too little noodles and no BBQ meat like the traditional dish in Vietnam. The soup of the noodle was very tasty. The vegetables for the soup was not thoroughly washed. The rice dish com tam was not enough to fulfilled my boyfriend's stomach. The grilled meat was ok and the cha was tasty, according to him. His soup on the side was not yummy, according to him.The egg rolls appetizer were too expensive. They're basically $2 for a single egg roll, about your big thumb. I've been coming here pretty often for lunch for a couple years now, so I think it's safe to say that this place is awesome. I'd suggest going after the lunch hour rush, so I'd say maybe 2:30pm or so. There is a server that I prefer, but I don't know his name. He is super nice and always knows what I want. I usually get 39b with seafood only with the egg and rice noodle in the dry option. It comes with a little bowl of soup on the side. I ask for pickled peppers and chili oil because I love spicy things. The broiled filet mignon with broken rice is also super delicious and very filling. I'm surprised at how much rice comes out with this order. They recently renovated the place in June, so they have new tables and chairs. I think I will want to continue visiting this place even if I don't work nearby anymore. It's so yummy and worth it! read more

This place is also called Vietnamese Cuisine in the same plaza as Hong Kong. I love that they have a variety of Viet food here, family style dishes and many other soup dishes besides Pho. Their Pho is OK, but the other soups have been great. The broths are very yummy, and they definitely season everything right...if you're Asian. The service isn't always the best, but I've noticed they've replaced a couple of moronic servers who will argue with you when you say they brought you the wrong thing. My white boyfriend and I ordered a couple of authentic Viet dishes (Banh Canh Cua & Hu Tieu Nam Vang) but they brought the "white" version out for him, and even cited that as the reason when we said he didn't order that. We've been back many times since, and they seem to be a lot better now about bringing the full on good stuff. So insist on getting the correct stuff or you'll miss out on the real goodness of this place. read more

Express should not be in it's name. Today is my second time here. My first time, i waited over 45 for my com tam and just got up and left when the waiter ignored me after I asked him about my food. My wife wanted to give them another chance, but it was even worse this time. It was 10:15 am, so it wasn't busy and we still waited over 40 minutes for our food. There were other tables that came in after we ordered that got their food first. We ordered 1 pho and 2 com tam. I wouldn't mind if we were a big group, but it was ridiculous. I would've walked out again if my wife didn't insist that we stayed. We asked our waiter twice to check on our food and both times he just went in the kitchen and disappeared. On the one hand, they had some classics that a friend of mine hadn't seen since her Hong Kong days -- including a drink comprised of raw egg, condensed milk, and soda water that her Hong Kong cousins swore by as a hangover cure -- but on the other, I really didn't care for how the iced, sweetened coffee was presented. The mound of ice chips / shavings, instead of cubed ice, nearly turned the drink into a sweet coffee-flavored slushie. So-so: the service. We had trouble conveying our orders, and service was just slow. It was hard to get napkins, and we didn't get served quickly -- though, I must admit, we were there during Sunday lunch, and the small restaurant was pretty full. It was decent, and quite cheap. I ordered something that I know for a fact typicaly takes around 15-20mins to cook and my whole tables food arrive all at the same time in under two mins. Overall, I thought this place was okay. The portion size of the pho was good, but it was a bit bland and the service was awful. The food came out quickly, but when I asked the lady/owner for a take-home container for my leftovers and she gave me one that was too small. When I went back and asked her for another one, she gave me attitude and didn't want to give me another one. Also, when I came in, there were a few tables that hadn't been cleaned off, and when I left, the tables still had all the dirty dishes/trash on them. I would not recommend this place.
