Firstly this is the best place in the WHOLE city is get banh mi. PERIOD. Yeah, they're awesome. After eating one of their banh mi's, you'll think twice about going to subway and spending $5 for a sub. The store is small, but for a quick pick-me-up, you really can't beat it. Out of the several Vietnamese places I've been to, Bánh Mì & Co. is definitely my favorite. Though I know practically nothing about Vietnamese food, I do know a thing or two about sandwiches, and the crunchy bread, the fresh jalapenos, and the pickled carrots combine to form a good 'wich. The seating arrangement is pretty strange, with most of the bar-style seating facing the wall and no tables. But the atmosphere is as a whole nice. After walking around the block a couple of times while waiting for a Laugh Factory event to start, I finally decided to try my luck at Banh Mi & Co. As other reviewers pointed out, this is a casual (some might say no frills) spot. The menu is well edited, which I appreciated as I was looking for a quick bite. Since I must have looked intent and not wanting a big pileup in the line behind me, the man behind the counter drew my attention to the combo - soup and banh mi. I went with the wonton soup and the lemongrass chicken sandwich. The sandwich was good and the addition of siracha sauce (thoughtfully provided in large bottles- no shortage here) lent a welcome kick. I will say that the dishes, even the soup, were both very heavy on the cilantro. That minor hiccup aside, the soup was very good and I appreciated the peppery kick and the fact that the wontons were not skimped. Nom, delicious sandwiches! Halley W. and I made our way up Broadway in search of some bahn mi and we loooved it. There is barely any seating inside, so I would suggest taking it to go or sitting outside (if weather permits). I was starving, so to start, I ordered the wonton soup. For $2.85 this was a huge bowl of soup! The broth was the highlight, very flavorful and the wontons were good, not great. As a starter or side to your sandwich, this is a great value. For dinner, we shared the lemongrass chicken sandwich and the BBQ pork sandwich. I have to say the BBQ pork was the clear favorite. The lemongrass chicken was fresh and tasty, but it did not compare to the unique flavor of the BBQ pork. Not your traditional BBQ flavor, the pork was cooked very well and their BBQ complimented the other components of the sandwich very well. First, the rolls these sandwiches are served on are large and fluffy. There's plenty of meat inside along with carrots, dikon, cucumber...and fresh jalapeno. Beware of the fresh jalapeno! I love spicy food, but these really shocked me when I took a bite. Between the soup and a half of each sandwich, I was incredibly full and couldn't finish the entire thing. Overall, Bahn Mi and Co. is the perfect option for a quick bite on Broadway. I will definitely be back for that unique BBQ pork and maybe to try another variety. read more

This is my new favorite restaurant in the area. My best friend is Vietnamese, and I grew up eating at her house a lot so I enjoy Vietnamese food. I'm a huge fan of the lemongrass chicken bahn mi and my boyfriend always orders the chicken curry. There's not much seating, but the prices are reasonable and the staff is very warm and welcoming. We live down the street, so we're always tempted to pick something up here when our fridge is empty. read more

Ordered here for the first time based on Yelp reviews. Unfortunately, they did not give us a good first impression. The food was a little too salty and they gave us a chicken sandwich although we ordered tofu. Good thing my wife checked before she ate it as she is strict vegetarian. I came in with two friends, who are both Vietnamese over the weekend expecting some pretty awesome banh mis but our banh mis just feel short of our expectations. They did not have any taste of the authentic Vietnamese banh mi. I'm used to a toasted baguette and while their bread was soft, it just did not feel like a banh mi to me. My classic banh mi kind of felt like a mediocre sub sandwich to me. I got the spring rolls as well and I felt the same about them, sadly. I also tried the lychee lemonade, which was okay... Every Pho I have had came with tons of herbs and tasty broth, their's came with a bowlful of rice noodles, and a few leaves of mint. I've been enjoying the fact that lots of Bahn Mi places have been opening up in the area since it means I don't have to go North to try one. I like Bahn Mi the best because it's the closest one to me, they are the quickest, the jalapenos they use seem to be the hottest, and they have lots of varieties for you to pick from. Even better, they seem to be owned by the same friendly people that own my fave nail salon in the area, Get Nail'd. Granted, I was a bit weirded out when I first realized this (only b/c I am easily weirded out and have some paranoid vision of the employees giving someone a pedicure and then running over to this shop to make my sandwich), so I kind of wish they wouldn't make a point of reminding me that I'm a customer at their nail salon. However, I know I just need to get over it and realize that it's nice of them to recognize me and acknowledge me as a regular customer. read more

Pho was standard - lots of meat, fresh vegetables, noodles cooked perfectly. But the broth could've been more flavorful.

Suddenly decided to have some Vietnamese food when I was passing by this place on Sunday. I used to have pho every time I visit Vietnamese restaurants, but this time I tried banh mi which means sandwich and is also the name of the restaurant. I order the sandwich with grill beef and different kinds of vegetables, it was good, the bread was crispy after toast, vegetables are fresh, and the meat was just the right amount, so it won't be too rich to me, cause I don't like having sandwich with full mouth of meat, lol. My first Vietnamese sandwich and I was blown away! Banh Mi came highly recommended from a fellow foodie, so I had to try. I have very little experience eating Vietnamese food, but what I had at Banh Mi was out of this world. Ordered the Lemongrass Chicken Sandwich and Won Ton Soup. Sandwich was on a crispy, fresh baguette with just the right proportions of meat to veggies, to condiments. The taste combination of lemon chicken, pickled carrots, jalapeño and cilantro was something I had never tried, but it was perfect. Sandwich is a healthy serving but doesn't leave you feeling overly stuffed. Ingredients are fresh and powerful. This is a meal I would be happy eating once a week for the rest of my life. read more

My boyfriend and I decided to come here for a quick Tuesday lunch. We ordered the spring rolls, a pork banh mi and pho. The pricing is reasonable and the food was decent. I don't eat Vietnamese food often enough to have an actual scale in terms of what's phenomenal and what's not good. I enjoyed the food here which is what warrants the 3 stars. This may be an re-incarnation of another spot in Wicker Park that closed. I do not know. I went there for a banh mi xiu mai (meatball sandwich-Vietnamese) + three other vegetarian sandwiches to take home. It was overall okay, except that they mislabeled which sandwich was what. Also, I was not exactly impressed with the sandwiches. They were soggy. I would rather go to Ba Le, further North in New Chinatown, where the quality is more predictable. Also, living in Arizona, and being married to a Vietnamese lady, I have found better Vietnamese sandwich shops in Arizona and in Ho Chi Minh City. read more

The servers are rude and act like you are inconveniencing them when you place an order.
