Run, don't walk. The spicy beef jerky is incredible. SO FLAVOUR PACKED and exploding in your mouth. Only $30-35 for a huge bag that you won't be able to stop snacking from. They also sold chicken and pork jerky. The pork steamed bun was also absolutely packed to the max with meaty filling. The meat to bread ratio couldn't be better, especially at the price. Had half an egg inside, I think some sausage, and lots of mushroom. Pork spring roll was also tasty and did not have the same filling. Can't wait to go back to try the banh mi and other jerky flavours... I just wish they came in smaller bags to sample and share.

Food: 4 Stars Service: 3 Stars Ambience: N/A Fill Factor: Satisfied I grew up eating banh mi and it's one of my favourite things to pick up when I'm in Chinatown. I passed by this place several times when I was in the area and finally I made the trip inside. This was definitely one of the better life choices I've made in recent times. The shop is very small with a single long table and a few chairs against the wall. I'm assuming it'd be ok if you wanted to sit down and eat there. There is also a big rack filled with assorted items for sale such as noodles and there is a fridge in the back with drinks. The main counter at the front is where all the magic happens. You have a choice of about 5-6 different proteins for the banh mi and so far I've tried the BBQ pork, assorted, and BBQ chicken with the BBQ pork and assorted being the best. The bread was nice and crispy/crunchy and they are fairly generous with all the fresh ingredients (such as cucumbers, cilantro, pickled veggies, sauces) that go into a banh mi which in my opinion are more important than the protein itself. Also note that if you cannot take spicy please say no when they ask because it really is spicy when you bite into the chilies. They also sell other food items such as the white steamed bun, rolls and various smoothies so it isn't just all banh mi here. I think the best way to sum everything up is you get good value at Huy Ky. It's $5 for a banh mi and $3 for the white buns which is a reasonable price these days so if you're craving banh mi Huy Ky is a great option.

Y'all this is the definition of a hidden gem. Authentic banh mi, super friendly service, and $5!!!! I'm just mad I didn't discover this place a decade ago.

Banh is ok, but the filling is not very generous. This is just a small shop, for people who wants to grab and run. There a few bar seats. I guess it's good for the students from the school nearby. Ordered the special, BBQ pork and chicken banh. The BBQ pork is the best, then the special, the chicken definitely not looked by my family. They used the long bun, but the filling is a bit lacking.

    Regular banh mi.

Visited again today and Banh Mi Huy-Ky is still killing the banh mi game. The baguette was so fresh and the service was fast. Sandwiches are still only $5.

This spot underwent a little bit of an interior renovation and now they are open again. I've never tried the banh mi from here so headed inside to grab some lunch on the way home. They also offer a lot more as well such as steamed buns, sticky rice, pyramid cake, and moon cakes. In terms of COVID-19 safety, the counter staff wear masks at all times. There is tables inside for indoor dining although they are not spaced out at all. I think this place is really more for take-out then dine-in. This banh mi has all the usual suspects you would expect in a Vietnamese banh mi including the deli meats, the lard, cilantro, and pickled veggie. They also squeeze some sauce which tastes like a savoury teriyaki-style sauce into the bun. The veggie could be a little more tart to provide that brightness that it is lacking. I found that if you take the sandwich away in a bag, make sure the open face of the sandwich points up otherwise the sauce leaks through thanks to gravity. I asked for the sandwich to be spicy and saw them cut up the fresh chili pepper but failed to feel the heat when I chowed down. Where did the peppers go? Price is fair for the size of the banh mi and the taste. A happy find in the neighbourhood!

Imo one of the best banh mi shop in Toronto. You can not beat the $4 banh mi, the owner is nice and friendly. Good selection of drinks

I ordered the bun bo hue, pho, and spring rolls. The bun bo hue tasted more like a spicy pho broth, and the pho reminded me of the broth at the Michelin recommended restaurant on Ossington. Overall, the bun bo hue and spring rolls were just okay, nothing special. The pho was good if you're looking for something simple. They also put a large piece of beef tendon in the pho, which I loved! One thing I didn't like was that the owner seemed to be rushing us to order, which felt a bit off putting. I'd come back for the pho and spring rolls, but I'm not sure about the other dishes.

This really is soul food when you're feeling sick. My one quarrel with this place is the extremely small wide of their "large soup bowls" this is just terrible. I wish they would just go back to a regular large bowl of soup. This is the smallest "large" pho soup size I've had just about anywhere I've been. Honestly amazing place, but the portion of the soup really really irks me. Also the fried spring rolls are a must try! Incredible every single time.

The dry noodle dishes under the green column use egg noodles & those under the brown use rice noodles but the toppings & sauce are the same. The most pricey rice noodles are Japanese but otherwise the difference is width. Got the thin egg noodle version in large. It's recommended to add pickled garlic & red vinegar. The soup was pretty tasty with a natural sweetness, 2 springy half fishballs & a large, very fresh shrimp. The sauce was basically oyster sauce but pickled garlic, red vinegar, hoi sin & chili sauce were available to add complexity. The noodles weren't wet but were not dry either. Large was a very big bowl it came with minced pork, thin sliced pork beansprouts & greens. The pickled garlic was good. Also got a shrimp fritter on the side for $2.50. It was big with one tiny shrimp. The juxtaposition was comical but it was cheap. It was not warm but the fritter was crispy & tasty. Unfortunately the shrimp itself was dry & brittle. Service was good, especially for an Asian place.

Right down to the non-white washed clientele. I'd always prefer to dine where the "locals" dine, and being in a multicultural city like Toronto, it's difficult to fine a hidden gem that hasn't been invaded by foreigners (I'm laughing inside because I'm not Viet and am disliking myself for being that invader; however, I can pass for a Viet if I just point to the table I want and the menu item I'd like ). So, please keep this place to yourself as I would hate to line up the next time I come.

Got the dry pho with chicken - personally would prefer a bun (vermicelli) instead. The green onion tofu had a good flavour with the sauce but found it was fried a bit too much, making it crispier than I'd like (it felt more like tofu skin than I could enjoy the tofu itself). The stuffed chicken wing was my favourite of the 3, just felt slightly pricey for what it was. The mango sticky rice cocktail was delicious - would get again.

I really like the decor at Dzo, it gives off a cyberpunk Vietnam nightlife vibe. Here was I ordered: Bò Tái Chanh (Beef Carpaccio) - $21.95 - Thinly sliced raw beef with coconut leche de tigre, pickled onion, herbs, garlic, peanuts. This was served with a bowl of sesame cracker and prawn crackers - very tasty and a fairly large appetizer you can share with friends. There was definitely more beef than there was crackers but very tasty - 8/10 Pork Belly Claypot - $20.95 - steamed rice served with clay pot of braised pork belly, egg and pickled vegetables. This was really tasty, the pork meat was very flavourful. The pork meat had a little too much fat on it but overall still very tasty! 8/10 Overall I recommend Dzo Viet eatery, good value but a little more expensive for Vietnamese food, but there's usually a premium for restaurants within downtown Toronto Total spent was: $55.87 after tax and tips
