Came by to pick up a quick meal since we were around for a visit to the botanical garden. Ordered a Seafood banh mi and the ingredients said crab and shrimp. What I got instead was fake crab meat you see in a California roll and one piece of shrimp. What a complete disappointment! On top of that the total bill didn't add up to how much I ordered. With the barrier to prevent Covid spread, I didn't get to see what they charged me and gave the option of emailing or texting the receipt. In the receipt it had equated $3.00 more than the total with tax based on the items I ordered. Not sure where that extra charge came from? I was willing to accept it if it was for the seafood sandwich with real crab and a reasonable coverage of shrimp. Recommend folks check their orders and how it's totaled here before you pay! This hole in the wall place is really popular in the Brooklyn area. When I first entered this restaurant, there was a line of people waiting for their food and ordering. There are only 4-5 areas to sit in this restaurant so it's best to take your food and eat out or wait until a table clears up. Service was awesome and they have a $10 lunch special of where you can get a banhmi sandwhich and tea. I ordered a beef pho ($9-$10) and a Thai Iced Tea Bubble drink ($4) which came out to be $15 with tax. My beef pho was okay, the broth lacked flavor meaning they didn't soak the bones long enough. The noodles were also okay, but overall it was a tasteless broth that lacked flavor and required the use of basil and beansprouts to give it more flavor. The Thai Iced Tea was bitter and not sweet at all. The boba was soft, but overall, I wouldn't order any of those two items ever again. The only saving grace of this restaurant was the awesome service. If I am in the area again, I would try their other menu items. read more

There were a mixture of meats in there, and the bread was toasted well enough that it was crisp and not ridiculously chewy. The place is small, with three little tables for 2 people each and three more people can sit at the bar. The service is quick too, you order at the counter and they bring your dish to the table. I had the lychee bubble tea- bewarned that its different from the smoothie, you get a black tea with lychee flavor and bubbles. It was really good though. I also ordered the brown rice lunch special and I got the grilled chicken. The chicken is cut into pieces and is on the sweeter side. It comes with a huge portion of brown rice which I was happy to take home. The grilled pork sandwich I had was really tasty, nice & spicy (just how I like it) was a huge portion, on a fresh bun. I was in the neighborhood, so I stop by to get it to go so I can eat it on the bus to DC. I also ordered the spring rolls with shrimp. They were not that great, there were four shrimp in each but it was way too big and all the noodles were in the middle. It could have used a little bit more cilantro. I've had better! I really like this place. As a Vietnamese person, I always cringe when someone recommends a Vietnamese restaurant to me (what's going to taste like Mom's?), but I am so glad that Banh Mi Place is close by. It's a great option for delivery, always comes on time, always fresh - even if you're ordering drinks - speaking of which, big recommend for the red bean smoothie. I can vouch for the shrimp summer rolls (goi cuon), green papaya salad with shrimp (but use a different hot sauce to mix in with the fish sauce to get a more authentic taste, not sriracha that they give you), and classic banh mi sandwich, which are quite good! The beef pho is actually pretty decent for delivery pho, too. A tip if you're ordering it, reheat the soup and noodles separately then combine to get the appropriate texture. Is this the most authentic place in the world? No, but it will definitely satisfy a craving and has become one of my most frequented spots. When I was visiting the Brooklyn Museum about a little more than a year ago, I found this place after I searched up something local to eat. Turns out, I'm kinda disappointed with the value given for both the sandwich and the bubble tea. The banh mi was a baguette, but lacked substantial filling, as although I could taste the pate and the meats, there were a lack thereof and got overpowered by the pickled daikon and carrots. Plus, it was a little small, considering I paid $10 for a combo Vietnamese sandwich and bubble tea. In addition, the bubble tea lacked potency--the cashier didn't asked for sugar content and therefore it was a watery bubble tea, with not much taste in the Half & Half used. However, if you are visiting the Brooklyn Museum after everything returns back to normal, I would recommend this place despite not being worth it for the price, if you are not willing to travel further for lunch. read more

My go to quick order/pickup spot in crown/prospect heights is this Banh mi place. Don't get fooled by this hole in the wall, their tofu Banh mi is so delicious with their sriracha mayo. Based on food only I'd give this place 2.0 stars. The service is pretty friendly, accommodating and quick, so I'm rounding up to 2.5 stars. Came here after visiting the Brooklyn Museum a few weeks ago, it's a few blocks away and had good reviews on Yelp so we gave it a shot. We were going to try the Caribbean place a block away but it was packed so we came here. The place is small and seems like mostly like a take out place. Against the left wall there are two small tables that seat two each and against the front window and right of the entrance are a total of 4-5 counter seats. We must have come right as people were leaving the museum on Saturday around 8pm and looking for dinner because there was about a 15 minute wait after we ordered until one of the tables cleared up. Subsequently about 10 more people came in to order to eat in or take out and there were a few people left standing. We ordered the regular beef pho and a grilled pork chop over rice, which came with some fresh cucumbers, and pickled carrots and daikon on the side. I'm not sure if it's because there are no other good Asian food places in the immediate area, but this place is not close to 4 stars in terms of authentic flavor. Which is not to say the flavors were bad, they may be okay if you haven't had a lot of Vietnamese food, but the meat was extremely salty in both our dishes, and the broth for the pho tasted very light compared to the better places in Chinatown or great places in Elmhurst. The prices were also a tad higher than what I normally expect for good Vietnamese food in other areas of the city, but comparatively probably cheap for this area of Brooklyn. I'd probably give it another shot if I was in the area and hungry, but otherwise would rather eat better Vietnamese elsewhere. read more

I lived in Manhattan, and often went to Vietnamese restaurants. A few days ago I went visiting my friend in Brooklyn, and so went to banh mi place. Had a high expectation for it, seeing it was busy. I ordered a classic sandwich and a thai tea . The sandwich had barely any pate, little ham, small and hard bread, the cilantro had the whole big stem, and so little mayonnaise. The Thai tea had a funny taste, a little watery, bit bitter. I appreciated the 20 minute making of food, but I really won't recommend coming to this place. I'll rather recommend people going to this restaurant called Vietspot in Manhattan. Not trying to convince people to go there, but this place indeed have bigger bread, more stuff, and just better than banh mi place in many areas. Just want to let people know. read more

This place must be under new management because OMG, in the past I've ordered from here and the meat in the sandwiches were dry and bland. I got the pork sandwich- they made the pork taste delicious with not a lot of salt, just the right amount of seasoning. It was filled with fresh veggies and it paired well with the peanut dipping sauce that came with my summer rolls. The bubble tea is beautifully fragrant, it's definitely not powdered. Each banh mi costs around $6.50...which is good by NY standards, although I do miss my $2.50 banh mi from Houston, TX *sigh* Each sandwich is pretty large, and they don't skimp on the ingredients. I got the chargrilled pork and it was excellent. The marinade on the pork was perfect and the meat was very moist with just the right amount of char. Baguette seemed fresh and toasted to a perfect crisp on the outside. Pretty sure one banh mi would fill up the average person. They have a promotion where you can add a boba drink for $1.99 if you buy a sandwich with it (I think regular price for drink is $4 which is a bit much for the size). Also, free delivery over $10. Pretty sure the owners aren't Vietnamese as I heard them speaking Mandarin in the back...not that it matters though. Oh, and not sure if it's a place you would actually spend too much time in, but they do have free WiFi. Ordered delivery from them and had the chance to try three things: the classic banh mi, the seafood banh mi, and the beef pho. The rule of having to order what the restaurant is eponymously known for stands true -- banh mi place of course had to do banh mi well. While the pho was a bit disappointing to me, I'm still thinking about each of the banh mi I had a day later, and would come back in a heartbeat for them. Let's go with the banh mi method of news delivery and parcel out good, bad, good. Good: the classic. With pate, Vietnamese ham, roasted ground pork, and the classic carrots, cucumber, radish, cilantro, and sauce, it was the perfect combination to evoke my taste buds and my memory. Easily my favorite of the three. Like a good book, I couldn't put it down. Bad: the beef pho. I'm used to pho tai, with rare meat, and unfortunately it came fully cooked, even a bit overcooked in my opinion -- not what I was expecting. The mint and other toppings, packed with the noodles, also became a bit soggy and warm, and the noodles stuck together. The soup was all right if bland; I added some sriracha and that made it better. Maybe it would have been better in store, but I've had takeout pho often and unfortunately this ranks low. Good: the seafood banh mi. The meat from the first is replaced with crab and shrimp instead. It was something I hadn't tried before in a banh mi and worked surprisingly well, imitating the imitation crab in crab soup that my mom makes. Prices were cheap and portions generous. My go-to vietnamese place in Prospect Heights, in all its hole-in-the-wall glory. The food almost always hits the spot, and prices are definitely reasonable. Their sandwich or rice dish + bobba combo runs $10. My favorites are their original banh mi and the grilled pork/brown rice. The sandwich isn't the most authentic-tasting but I doubt that's what they're going for. Instead, you get such a great mix of sweet BBQ and picked radish flavor in every bite! It's delish.
