I couldn't even finish half before feeling unwell and had to run to the bathroom. It also lacked flavor and wasn't spicy at all. The summer rolls were not authentic. They were filled mostly with lettuce and radish--no proper ingredients like traditional Vietnamese rolls should have. Charging $9 for a roll like that is not worth it. I came here for a bite with one of my friends after a morning workout class and it wasn't a bad spot! Located just on the outskirts of central LIC, it's a bit out of the way, but not hard to get to. They have some bar/window seating, but no tables. It's much more of a casual pick-up spot, if anything. Service was fairly quick. Their menu contains banh mi, spring rolls, vermicelli bowls, and a variety of drinks (as well as baked goods in their displays). I got their grilled chicken and pork banh mi and my friend got their pork banh mi. Overall, it was better than I thought and not bad at all! The bread was crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, and super warm. They were generous with the portions and gave lots of veggies, which I loved (I wish their pickled carrots and radish were just a bit crunchier though). The marinade for the meats was also well done! I am Vietnamese and this banh mi is just average if not below average. I asked if the grilled marinated pork was nem nuong, a special kind of marinated pork, and the employee said yes. So I got a few for my friends. The interior was cute but it was 86 degrees and there was Zero Air Conditioning in the establishment, so it felt awful waiting for the sandwich. I finally got the sandwiches after a while and went I went home to eat them, I was disappointed. The meat isn't authentic to Vietnamese culture at all, and definitely not what the employee said it was. Also, I have never seen shredded lettuce in a banh mi Vietnamese sandwich, but this place had it, so that really threw me off. I really liked how the bread was soft and crispy though. The Viet coffee was also only okay. It was not as strong as an authentic one should be. Overall this place is just average but convenient if you want a quick bite. Banh Mi Stop is co-located with Shero Cakes in Long Island City, a few blocks north of Queens Boulevard. The shop is small, with a few counter-style seats ringing the windows, and some tables and chairs outside. We ordered: - Grilled Chicken Banh Mi Sandwich: $11.95 - Crispy Flounder Fish Banh Mi Sandwich: $11.95. - Matcha Puff: $4.75. - Rose Lychee Roll Slice: $6.50. Our sandwiches could have been better made. The staff didn't clean the seeds out of the Serrano pepper slices in both sandwiches, so one of us was surprised by an intense burning heat from an unsuspecting bite. The sandwiches were dry, especially the fish sandwich. We asked for the sauce on the side, but the sauce was omitted from our take-out package. The cilantro on both sandwiches was wilted and yellowish. The carrot slaw, usually tart in Vietnamese sandwiches, leaned on the sweet side. The Matcha Puff had little matcha flavor, and was sweet for something that typically has a little bitterness. Looking for an authentic banh mi, this is definitely not the place to go. Their house special is literally egg and spam, not your typical Vietnamese banh mi with the Pate and ham. This is purely a bakery called Shero Cakes where they wanted to add the addition of making an Americanize version of Banh Mi. It was a total disappointment and waste of money. The pictures the store took to post on the yelp page is not how the sandwich comes out looking. The taste is also a big disappointment with lack of flavor. It's as if they toss everything together real quick from left over food. I even ordered a slice of their blueberry mousse cake and it was not fresh. The bread is bit on the crispier or harder side than most but think this is to prevent bread being soggy by the fillings. I really wanted to like this place. The banhmi sandwich is like a chinese version of a banhmi sandwich. There was sweet mayo in there. Pickled dikons and carrots were not the Vietnamese flavor. The summer shrimps roll was fresh, moist and reminded me just why I used to love this item. Sadly at previous other places they're premade and gummy or just sad. This was PERFECT. The crispy chicken sandwich was good: just consider slicing the protein instead of having it in two chunks. The carrot and daikon pickle could be more intensely flavored as the peanut sauce but very pleased to get the meal as a Friday lunch treat. I was vegan for a while but now I eat everything but still prefer veggies when the opportunity arises. I got the portobello mushroom banh mi sandwich, the flavors were incredible and just the right amount of heat. The Banh Mi had nice crusty bread, well picked daikon, mild spicy(requested) and sauce was on the sweeter side. The Thai ice tea was good sweet and the bubbles were well made.
