Anyone remember that viral TikTok / IG video of that influencer that came here for a collab, to only post a bad review once she got called out for not holding up her end of the bargain, and then also get exposed for killing a dog while dog sitting. Crazy times. Anyways...I didn't realize it was this spot until one night I was craving pho in LIC and found this spot on Yelp. Once I saw the storefront, I knew which restaurant this was and got very excited to finally try them out. For drinks, I had to get the Vietnamese Espresso Martini ($19). It had that distinct Vietnamese coffee taste with a mix of alcohol, which blended in nicely. It luckily did not keep me up all night. For entrees, we split an order of the Shaking Beef ($33) as well as the Bun Rieu ($22). We probably could have just ordered one or the other to split as we were very stuffed by the end of the meal. Both were delicious and would recommend. The Bun Rieu is unique that it is a pork and tomato soup base, kind of like in hot pot (delicious a refreshing btw) with a hint of fish sauce. The Shaking Beef is a classic which comes with jasmine rice. Beef is prepared and seasoned perfectly. There were other items that looked and sounded delicious, but my wallet prevented me from doing so. There's always another time, which I will be looking forward to. I like how the flavors for each dish were just right and nothing overpowers the other dishes. My favorite was definitely the signature pho because of how authentic it tastes. I rarely see this appetizer at popular Vietnamese restaurants in Dallas. We liked it a lot. The shrimp paste wrapped around the sugarcane stick was nicely grilled and flavorful. Don't discard the stick. Chew on it a bit to get the sweet juice out. We ordered a few entrees: beef noodle soup, bún bò huế, grilled pork chop rice, and chicken dry noodles. Everything was delicious! The broth of bún bò huế was savory and mildly spicy with a delicate taste of shrimp paste. The beef noodle soup was delicious also. The beef was nice and tender. I've been meaning to come around here ever since the place went viral over some random tiktok food reviewer basically stiffed them $200 on service without a good review to show for it. It has come to be a blessing in disguise for this humble spot because this brings in traffic and potential customers wanting to do right by the restaurant at least much better than that shady reviewer did. Backstory aside, seeing this place for the first time, it looks like a small restaurant from the outside but it's a very long spot complete with a backyard for outdoor dining. Service is very attentive and courteous, they do their best to make your stay as pleasant as possible and things like this are noted and appreciated because a good vibe can really make the experience when eating at any establishment. For lunch I ordered the Grilled Lemongrass Chicken w/ Rice and the Porkchop Banh Mi. The Lemongrass Chicken with rice was made very well and tasted delightful. The Banh Mi sandwich also made for a solid appetizer. You definitely get a good money's worth for your meal because it definitely filled me up so one of the entrees is good enough if you're eating solo. She then came back momentarily and walked us up to the mezzanine. The mezzanine overlooks the main dining area. Chris was our server and he was very friendly. The menu offers many great options. I ordered the Lunar Lychee ($19.00), Signature Pho ($20.00), and we shared the Cajun Fries. The Lunar Lychee was tasty. The Signature Pho has beef pho broth with rare eye round beef, brisket, and beef ball. The broth was very aromatic and a bit sweet compared to other broths I've had. Pleasantly surprised by this viet spot in LIC! Service and ambience are lovely ~ it can sometimes get busy and they might be slightly understaffed but they're working HARD with what they have :) The space is also quite large, we were put upstairs which is honestly so rough for the servers so big up to them for dealing with it!! Even though the place was packed, upstairs was a bit quieter and calmer. Food was great! They had more "traditional" items on the menu that other viet places don't have so def appreciate it, and they do it well! I really wanted to support this place after the whole scandal where they got scammed by an influencer, but I was left feeling disappointed. If you're coming just for the pho, I would say their broth is pretty standard. Their banh xeo was my favorite dish and tasted authentic with the coconut milk and mung bean flavor. I also appreciate that they sell Che (Vietnamese coconut dessert drink) since it's been so hard to find any in NYC. Their banh cuon (which is actually just banh uot since theres no filling inside) was a little thick and rough and their banh beo was also thick and not as chewy. The most disappointing was their banh mi. I couldn't see or taste any mayo or pate and when I asked them about it, the manager kept insisting that it was layered in between the meat. I literally flipped open the meat to show that there was no mayo or pate but he kept trying to insist it was hidden in there somewhere. Maybe the pate I can believe, but I would think I would be able to taste or see if there was mayo on my sandwich. In the end they did remake the sandwich for me but I would've appreciated offering that or even some mayo/pate on the side before trying to convince me that it was there.
