After years of wanting to try the bank, I finally did! I was well pleased with the atmosphere and our waitress. She was very nice and helpful. I ordered the mussels Rockefeller as an appetizer. The mussels were some of the best I've ever had! I ordered an old-fashioned as it was recommended. I found it to be of average quality. For my main, I ordered the special which was soy ginger tuna. It was fantastic! One of the only things I didn't like was the reservation process. They didn't have any online reservations you had to call over the phone, which can be difficult during busy times. read more

The pictures I took are kind of lame because I was too busy eating the awesome food! This place isn't cheap, but it is so worth it. You do need to make a reservation (make it in advance, as it did take a little bit to get ahold of someone over the phone). My husband got the mussels Rockefeller, which he really liked. I don't like mussels, so I didn't have any of that dish. My main dish was the Chicken Diane and it was great!! Loved the sauce and the mashed potatoes were so flavorful. We were celebrating my mom's birthday, and she got a choice of dessert. She picked the cheesecake and it was delicious! It came with caramel and strawberry syrup. CAUTION! PLEASE DOUBLE CHECK YOU RECEIPT!! They are able to add a ghost charge that does not appear on the receipt! Calculate your numbers. I was overcharged by $5.00 on my receipt without a line item or explanation. I have called twice to speak to the owner and did not received a response. I have dined here on many occasions over the past decade. I doublechecked my receipt and was shocked about the overcharge. The waitress was tipped in cash! Such a nice place and amazingly delicious food. I got the Scallops and Shrimp, subbing out the fingerling potatoes for risotto which was such a good call from our waitress, Melanie. (Doesn't get her in trouble does it?) And she was great. Very friendly, kind and attentive. My friend got the salmon which he said was very good. His plate was clean so must have been. We originally had reservations at The Hackney but did not feel a welcome vibe from them and decided to go elsewhere. Called this Bistro and they were immediately accommodating, pleasant and friendly. It was the right choice! Our waitress was amazing! Warm, friendly and very personable! I think she said she was fairly new to the area. She offered on point recommendations. The appetizer special was delicious, very flavorful! Our meal was perfect. I ordered the filet mignon Dianne, with potatoes and asparagus. My husband ordered the ribeye. Both were very generous portions and cooked precisely as ordered. The ambiance was low key, comfortable and unpretentious. We would definitely recommend and return. The only suggestion we have is possibly expand the dessert options to more variety. Give it a try. read more

Their website in non-existent and there are no menus listed on their FB page. Unable to tell what the prices are or what type of food they serve. I had the best experience at The Bank this evening. The ambiance is warm and pleasant, nicely decorated and we were delighted to be greeted by Paul who we absolutely adore. Skyler was our server and he was very attentive and took great care of us. My dinner was outstanding. I had the venison and I was so impressed. I had the Shrimp and Scallops pasta, so mouth melty. The seafood was absolutely perfectly cooked; when your shrimp and scallops are tender and delicious, you know the restaurant knows what they're doing. Hubs had the Blackened Ribeye, medium rare, wow, what a treat! Came with mashed potatoes (creamy and delicious), and broccolini. Superb. We even tried several appetizers, all top notch, and Joe's Dirty Martini - I had two; they're all that AND a bag of chips. Oh, count/guess how many original vault doors are still open. Had a reservation for 5 on Tuesday, 12/26/2023. Walked into a very stressed restaurant. No help, no calm, only stress and sweat from the three staff members in the main dining room. If you have any experience with food & bev, you understand and experienced the chaos. The reason this evening is rated a 5 is because although we walked into hell fire, the lead waiter never stopped hustling. His junior did well to cover tables that strolled in after us. This is my favorite restaurant in Washington, North Carolina. The food is always phenomenal, the atmosphere elevated yet comfortable and the staff, friendly and accommodating. It had one of the most legendary shrimp and grits recipes I have ever had. I've eaten that dish in every coastal southern state from South Carolina to Louisiana. Nobody had a better recipe. it has been a few years since I had the opportunity to return here, and I was so looking forward to the shrimp and grits that I so much loved. Sadly, I found that the original chef had since left and the recipe had been changed. The original recipe had a thin broth over Parmesan grits with mushrooms, scallions, a healthy dose of Cayenne and bacon, as well as the shrimp. It was also served with a Parmesan Tuille. The balance of heat and flavor were wonderful. Unfortunately, the new version being served doesn't live up to its original. I will say that the new recipe is still very tasty, but it is much too tomato forward for my taste. On the menu, it is advertised as having pimento cheese, grits, and andouille sausage . If there were pimento cheese in the grits, it was totally washed out by the way too tomato forward sauce. The andouille sausage was diced up so fine as to be almost unrecognizable and not a significant component of the dish. There is no heat only canned tomato, overpowering every other component of the dish. It is sad because the original was unmatched even in New Orleans or Baton Rouge or Lafayette. They would be wise to go back to the original because this version, even though it's good, it's not what was the phenomenal original that was unbeaten by anywhere else I had ever eaten. And I've and I've eaten in every state that has a relationship with shrimp and with grits. Having said all that, the restaurant itself is wonderful and most of the menu items are fantastic. Please go there. You will not be disappointed. I'm just a shrimp and grits fanatic who had found the perfect recipe and then saw it slip away, much to my dismay. I mean, the chef then did a TV episode with NC PBS where he made that dish and referenced me because I came to town every month for a couple of days for work and wouldn't miss eating there. read more

We started at the bar with cocktails and they were delicious and the bartender was friendly. We got a high top near the window which I always appreciate. The place was empty but probably due to Hurricane Dorian heading their way. The menu had an abundance of choices (not a ridiculous amount) but enough to make our decision difficult. The food was perfect! So so good! The service was also wonderful. We will be back to Little Washington and to this restaurant. Our entire bill was under $100, and that includes the two cocktails and a bottle of wine. read more

Came here whilst my daughter was in town and the place smells like a gas leak. Hard to get past the smokey restaurant. I see the same server was here when I was here yrs ago and he was discontabulated. We ordered the charcuterie board our cheese was black and moldy. Our grapes were shriveled up and sad. The bread was deep fried along with other shellfish so it tasted weird which I cannot eat cuz I'm allergic to shellfish. The bread tasted oily and overcooked and disgusting. Hence we threw 40 bucks on the table and walked out. I do not understand why anybody would ever do that. We will never come back to the bank bistro :-( read more

Excellent food and gorgeous atmosphere, what else could you want? The building itself is absolutely beautiful and everything about this place is authentically downtown Washington. It's a staple in this town and much loved. We have sat outside when we have dined here but the inside is really nice. This is a great special occasion or date place, for sure. The menu offers a nice variety and everything we have enjoyed here has been fantastic. Their wine menu is top-notch as well, which I appreciate especially because there aren't many restaurants that serve good wine here. Excellent customer service as well. Lionized/no refills on water and no bread brought to table. Atmosphere was great. Clearly a locals establishment. Cocktails were very good and comparably priced for other establishments in area. Got apps, mains, and desserts. Food had great flavor but fish was very overcooked and somewhat dry (needed the water). Food prices very steep. Have dined in a number of very nice restaurants and for the price this fell way short of overall quality of experience (food and service). Having tried other restaurants in this area would recommended others (Blu) and don't plan to return. read more

Started with bread basket they serve with salted honey butter that was so good! It set the tone for our meal! Next we shared the charcuterie board and husband had shrimp bisque. He loved the soup and said he could have been happy with another bowl of it. And, I said I could have been happy w the charcuterie l. But, we didn't! We both had prime rib w whipped potatoes and Brussels sprouts and it was the best prime rib I've had. Anne was our server and she was attentive without being intrusive and so personable. This is a surprise every time I go to eat at the bank. We entertain friends from out of town (Atlanta), and they were extremely impressed. Amazing food, each time it seems to get better and better. Paul is an amazing bartender, and treats his guests like they were friends from 10 years ago. When visiting Washington, Do not miss this place! The entree--scallops and shrimp--was a mixed experience: the shrimp were plump and well glazed: most of the scallops were tasty though some were overcooked and bitter. The waiting time was terrible--nearly half an hour for the appetizer and over an hour for the main course. The crème brûlée was served cold and the surface was inexpertly prepared. It, too, was bitter. Our first experience at The Bank was good. This evening was not. I doubt that we will be back. read more

Lunch menu is all sandwiches and mostly gourmet grilled cheese variants. All dinner dishes tried (salmon, chicken with goat cheese & artichoke, crab cakes) were good. Our hostess and waitress were wonderful! Hoping they change the menu every so often so we can try different dishes next time we go. For a Washington find, this place is definitely worth a try. Little seating- make a reservation or get there early! Cons: cocktails weren't that great- way too strong for the martini and the Old Fashioned with Southern Comfort had too much or too little of something. SO LOUD. The acoustics are terrible, but maybe this is a problem they haven't had time to tackle yet as this restaurant is new. If they don't fix it though, this place will not be enjoyable at all. read more

Came to this classy restaurant for a dinner with colleagues and a sort of a get together thing. The ambience was really good with a live musician and we loved the special feature dinner entree and the appetizers we got. Fried green tomatoes with the roumelade were great along with their crab dip. Most of my colleagues got the blackened scallops with grits and seemed to enjoy it a lot. I got the Provençal pasta dish and it was delicious! I would definitely recommend coming here for a date night or a casual dinner. The food was amazing, the right temperature and just the right portion size... We left feeling extremely stuffed and satisfied! This was the perfect end to a beautiful day in Washington,NC! I would give high ratings to the food. All our choices were delicious and the ambience and feel of the dining area was really nice. I had the catch of the day and the sauce was fantastic We arrived early, so our service experience was quite good though not stellar. As time went by the restaurant became more crowded, and since there was only two waiters, I would guess that later diners would not have had quite as good of service experience. Toward the end of our meal, the wait staff were on a practically a full run, and it took us a long time to get our bill. This is another establishment to present a bill with 20% tips minimum listed on the bottom, and the tip amount actually includes the tax which is getting to be very common. Apparently, we are now not only expected to pay 20% at least on the rising cost of food and overpriced libations but now we have to pay at least 20% on the taxes. read more
