I gave birth at Banner Gateway Medical Center from November 20-24, 2025, and unfortunately my experience included several serious concerns. An IV placed upon admission became extremely painful and swollen. Despite reporting discomfort multiple times, it was not assessed until several hours later and was found to have infiltrated. I continue to experience daily nerve pain and numbness in that arm and am seeking medical evaluation. I was also required to repeat bloodwork and GBS swab after being told they lost my original tests. Because my GBS results were unavailable when I later went into labor, I had to receive IV antibiotics and was told I had to delay pushing several hours, which added unnecessary stress during delivery. Postpartum, our room was freezing cold throughout our stay despite multiple requests for assistance. I was paranoid about my premature newborn becoming ill due to the cold. I believe the prolonged cold environment may have contributed to my baby failing a glucose screening, resulting in multiple additional heel pricks during our stay. My husband and I were left extremely uncomfortable and we were also told they had no additional blankets to give us. This should have been one of the most joyful, memorable days of my life, but instead it was marked by pain, preventable errors, and feeling completely unheard. read more

I was in the hospital for 4 days - about April 26 to May 2 on the 3rd floor. I was admitted with a high fever, high blood pressure, and confusion. My Care Team was the best group of Nurses and CNA's who have ever cared for me. I would like to give a shout out to Ana Duncan-favorite nurse ever! Caitlyn, Emily-So Sweet!, Lucas, Boston, Susan, - Wow!, Fabi, Lana who rescued me when I really, really had to go to the bathroom, my transporter, and my favorite doctor, Dr. Dunkly, and the phlebotomist who placed a warm compress on my hand before drawing blood. No one ever LIKES being in the hospital. but this was my best hospital experience ever. Thank you. read more

I went in for surgery. I have anxiety. I was told it would be no problem to get some anti anxiety medicine when I was being prepped in the Pre-op. It was in fact a huge problem. Took almost an hour and was told I was an 'addict' by my anesthesiologist who then peppered me with questions about 40 other drugs,none of which I have taken without a doctors script. Then I was told it was my "loss of control" that was the issue. Funny. I thought my anesthesiologist was an anesthesiologist, not a counselor trained in talk therapy.well he sure diagnosed and belittled me before he gave me WAY TO MUCH medicine and left me unconscious. All I wanted was my anxiety reduced before a procedure where I went under full anesthesia. I DID NOT want, nor did I deserve to be talked to like a was a druggie because I wanted anxiety reduction. 200% inappropriate behavior from some young punk who knows nothing about me or my life. My surgeon was great, the nurses were AWESOME but the anesthesiologist was a complete punk jerk who feels qualified to make judgements about you without knowing anything about you and then telling you what he thinks of you. And on top of that, he's unable to do his job correctly. There is a BIG difference between wanting anxiety reduction and being put unconscious. read more

I was admitted to the hospital on my birthday of ALL days, but am grateful to my friend for her welfare check on me. They got me in right away and went right to work examining me. Wasn't long before they had me a room and got me settled. Everyone who waited on me, ran tests on me, brought my food, etc. was nothing short of AWESOME! I received top-notch, first class care from the time I got there until the time I was transported to Banner University Medical Center. Each doctor, nurse, tech always checked on me and took the time to get to know me and my concerns. They ALL need a raise and Daisy Recognition! read more

My care here was pleasant the whole staff was great attentive helpful and friendly. Rooms were nice and clean. My baby number 3 here had all good times here. One thing though last time the food was a lot better, I guess they're working on updating kitchen. The food wasn't all the great I'd give it a 2-3 stars, it's nice they have options and you have plenty to eat each meal just the quality wasn't all that great meat lil dry, I'd say the ceaser side salad was good and cheesecake as well as the cookies, I didn't try any other deserts besides the cups of ice cream which were fine too. I did like the steamed veggies as well, they kinda hit all food groups you need in a day which is great, with the added sides entree deserts and 3 beverages each course. My baby was in nicu they've updated since my last 2 babies it's a lot more private a spa ious which is great. I feel my baby was handle with care as well myself and with respect. Started off fast, everything went smoothly, then we transferred to results in the er, we ended up waiting about 6 hours people who had come in after us had left, we are still sitting here waiting on the physician to come and talk to us. My girlfriend is in pain and yet no one will do anything. I would like to know what is happening and either go home or stay. read more

Chemo therapy so multiple five day visits. The beds are horrible the mattress is more that a foot shorter than the frame so filled will pillows? Very uncomfortable and if you complain the nurses just say there bad we know. I'm 6'3" and this bed was at least six to eight inches to short. Add to that the food is horrible I mean truly bad. Menu doesn't change and if you don't order a bland tasteless sandwich the meals are really bad. Nurses are good but staffing means they never really follow through or do what they say they usually say they'll be back and you don't see them for hours Not a restraunt review but nobody deserves this food especially not sick pe read more

I recently came in to have my first baby and all the staff that helped me through the whole process were absolutely amazing. These ladies who work in Labor & Delivery were such amazing people, they made me feel so comfortable and safe. I was even laughing with them while delivering my baby. They took such great care of me and my baby girl, I'm absolutely so great full. Also the food here is pretty good for hospital food. read more

My Dad was a patient here in January of 2026, and if I hadn't flown in from out of state to be with him here at the hospital, he would have died. His rare neurological disorder was blatantly ignored by the rotating "Hospitalists" that come through every day. We offered them a compiled document with information about his disease and several doctors outright stated they didn't need to see it. They treated him like a post surgical appointment after a feeding tube was surgically inserted, but did not treat him like a neurological patient who happened to have a feeding tube. The following days resulted in breathing trauma, suffocating on his air way, and panic attacks, and yet they refused to transfer him to ICU. My sister and I were literally suctioning his airway and pounding his back to help clear the airway and while the nurses would come when they were available - he needed intensive care. They refused to approve a transport to another hospital because they insisted they were providing sufficient care, but trust me, they WERE NOT. Worst of all, after the nutritionist on staff approved an order for his feeding tube to begin feeding him, the staff failed and my Dad went 24 HOURS without being fed. Not from the time of the feeding tube being placed, from the time the APPROVAL TO FEED HIM WAS GIVEN. My dad lost all strength in his body because he had NO nutrition for 5 days (pre surgery and post) and the loss of strength greatly aggravated his neurological disease symptoms. He almost died, I can't say that enough. And the staff REFUSED to take it any more seriously than a post surgical patient who was elderly and sick. Some of the nurses were great. One doctor was excellent and offered to immediately transfer him to another hospital in the same conversation that she first met him on her rounds. Everyone else before that was egotistical, selfish, they ignored our pleas, they thought they were better and smarter than us, and if my Dad almost died, I guarantee other patients HAVE died from medical neglect, and EGO. We finally made it to the Mayo Clinic and the care and practitioners there are night and day. I can't say this enough - the ER may be fine, but the rest of this hospital is a DEATH TRAP. read more

If your ethnicity is anything but caucasian then expect to be treated horribly. We came early morning today (Monday) and were one of first ones to arrive and check in. My wife had extreme pain on her right side of her stomach and we waited 1 hour and 30 minutes!! So many people came after us and looked like they just had simple colds and mild symptoms but they all got seen before us. When asked why we aren't seen first the lady in the office said they go off by pain levels and medical reasons. When I said she was at a 10 and there was people walking in before us that looked like they had mild pain she said she can't do anything about it. Mind you all that had came in before us were Caucasian and we were the only one Hispanics ones there. Absolute horrible place to come !!! read more

My ex came in with a low heartbeat, 44-47, was given a room right away, waited an hour and a half before they put her on a heart monitor, gave her fluids, doctor came in for about 3-5 minutes, took some notes and left. She has pushed the button several times, only for them to turn it off. Asked for a blanket and after 30 minutes, nobody came till I went out and asked. I figured she would get better service since she has liver cancer. 4 hours later and still waiting for her heartbeat to go up. No xray or cat scan, she got better service at ocotillo. Would've left if she wouldn't be charge for services that we didn't get. read more

Came here for issues with my blood sugar and the emergency triage nurse Jeanine was really rude, I was dizzy and confused and had a hard time getting my words out and she said "so anyway" also she sighed really hard like she didn't wana deal with me or something! We took my mom here tonight she is coughing terribly with a wheezing sound and could barely breathe she has passed out a few times as well. my mom has epilepsy we got her into the emergency room waiting to take her back she's started to get dizzy and was about to have a seizure we asked them to get her on any type of bed so she could lay down and not take one in the middle of the floor and they refused to do so told us she needed an x-ray first before they would do anything. they wouldn't give her a bed or a anything to lay her down on and they told us they could not do nothing for her . we then had to take her out to our car to she could lay down. read more

First time birth experience...I went in with ideas but not fully what to expect or knowing what would happen. My birth had no complications and was drug free so this might also impact how I felt. Getting in was super easy, no one forced me to do checks if I didn't want them. Honored golden hour and cord cutting. Postpartum they even offered to take the baby for a little bit when doing the 24 hr tests to give us a break because we were so sleep deprived. NURSES: I had an amazing experience with my nurses seriously. Brittnae/Brittany (not sure how she spelled it) was literally so incredible. She coached me through the whole thing and made me feel so comfortable. Kaiah was another nurse I remember being amazing. The postpartum nurses were all wonderful as well. You truly don't realize how much the nurses do until you're experiencing it. Lactation consultant's we're super cool too. DOCTOR: As for my doctor he was good but I was forced into stirrups and on my back when baby was coming. (When I say forced i mean literally forced my legs and said no to me saying no I don't want to be on my back) Thankfully there was minimal tearing but I can't imagine if I did tear because of this I would be more upset. Looking back it still makes me upset and I wish we had waited to call in the doctor because it felt like I was taking too long when he got there. Once baby arrived he was great. Answered all questions I had. Honored delayed cord clamping, showed us what was going on. COMMUNICATION: The only thing I wish is that they had communicated what they were trying to give me before attempting. If I hadn't been coherent they would've given me pitocin post birth and I didn't need it nor wanted it. They also started putting saline in me which is cool but it's just they could've told me this is what they were giving me. Other than that the nurse is who I thank the most, I will never forget my experience with Brittnae. She was funny and on top of everything with me. That was what really made it a great birth at Banner Gateway. read more

At 38 I had so many worries especially after a miscarriage 4 years prior and infertility struggles. Dr Terry Huff is very sincere and patient with your concerns at each appointment. Even when it came to my scheduled cesarean he was so excited to give me relief once my baby was delivered. It took 27 mins for delivery and requested tubal removal. As a woman with cerebral palsy this was the best decision for me. It was also explained tubal removal lessens the risk of ovarian cancer by 90%. I also wanted to share my appreciation for my anesthesiologist who went above and beyond for my care, nurses in delivery and postpartum. I had an amazing and clean room with actually delicious food served. They have an app to order your food as well. Thank you everyone for such great care. read more

My partner was in the hallway hearing nurses cracking jokes about the pain I was in (on top of the anxiety with just being there) and never having good experiences in hospitals in general. This hospital is staffed by a few people who care, but a majority seem to be travel nurses, and doctors who don't know what they're doing, including how to read their own charts. MD Anderson Cancer Center patients are told to come to this hospital and then given substandard care, unnecessary procedures, and consulting with NPs who don't even know what's going on. Stay away from their understaffed ER, in fact we saw so many of the cancer patients going to Mercy Gilbert because this hospital is so bad. If you feel like rolling the dice on your medical care and your loved one's life, this hospital is perfect for you. read more

Unfortunately, I'm not the first to make the following review about a PA in the ER Obs unit. This will help the fourth review with a similar experience regarding how the PA accuses patients of being drug seekers. I was in obs for abdominal pain, n/v/d. Great care until the morning PA changed all meds to home PO. He waited 6 hrs before coming to see me. The first sentence, "All your problems are caused by chronic medications." I assume he meant pain meds. He was condescending, rude, and gaslit me. He would loudly say he was trying to help me while also saying it was just constipation. He also told me my pain was all my fault. I asked why my CT abd didn't show constipation but also didn't even address my epigastric results...not mentioned at all. He responded he hadn't even looked at my CT results. He had to leave to go and do so. So he gave me a diagnosis not seen on CT and without looking at my scan, and even stopped meds, including the antiacid. When he returned, he cont w/his judgemental "assessment." I explained I was still vomiting, he blamed the nurses for not telling him. I expressed a desire to be discharged as I can take home meds & progress my diet at home, along w/being able to take home Zofran when I want & not wait 6 hrs doe his orders. I allowed him to assess my abd, which he ausc right side most, where pain was the least. I went home. He then cherry-picked & misrepresented the entire conversation, implying I was faking & lying. Also alluded to me abusing my home meds. And now flagging me as a drug seeker, impacted any further visits. There was NO constipation listed as my diagnosis in my chart or discharge papers. When reading other reviews, he treats chronic pain patients the same way: withholds pain relief, makes them wait for hours before seeing them, gaslights them, makes them feel they are faking, and flags their chart as "drug seeking." I already filed an official complaint with hospital. I am also filing one against his license. His behavior is unprofessional, disgusting, and dangerous. His behavior will lead some to not get medical care needed out of fear of being treated this poorly again. Shame you for allowing him to stay as I know there are other complaints from patients and staff. Imagine all who haven't spoken up... read more

My wife had surgery here, and I can't say enough about most of the people who cared for her here. The facility is very clean and well designed, and the hall my wife's room was in was relatively quiet. Her room was modern and fairly spacious with good lighting. For family members, it's very nice that they have a Peet's coffee counter downstairs. They also have a cafeteria, gift shop, and pharmacy, as you might expect. I would say this is the most pleasant hospital I've ever had to spend any amount of time at. My only complaints are that I felt the food could have been a bit better, even though it wasn't bad; sometimes the nurses were slow to respond; and it took the hospital forever to get one of my wife's usual medications that she definitely needed to have sooner rather than later. All in all, though, I would happily be treated here myself after seeing how well my wife was treated overall, and it's a much more pleasant place for family members to hang out than most hospitals. There is a garden area with tables and chairs that is very nice, and there are a lot of windows in the main hall across from the coffee counter that looks out into the garden area, which is also where the chapel is. The parking out in front of the hospital is ample, unlike so many other hospitals. Although this location is a long way from where we live, I am happy that my wife was treated here. read more

Have a lot of experience with various hospitals. Exposure to this one is limited to three surgeries(myself and two family members: 2009, 2012, 2023). Surgical check-in clerk has smiles, friendiness and courtesy down to a science; an absolute must for 5am check in. Well done. In my experience, the surgeons here are extremely good at what they do; zero complications and quick recoveries every time. On the admin side, BG absolutely doesn't mess around with money; only place that has ever rolled me to the financial window in a wheelchair and demanded copayment prior to discharge (2012) and made firm credit/payment arrangements prior to scheduled surgery (2023) . That is perhaps symptomatic of their dealings with United Healthcare, my medical insurance provider. After initial recovery, Clerk walked us back to a man who was most definitely not my wife before abruptly and briskly walking back to her desk leaving me to interrupt other staff to find her. Case status screen was not updated beyond initial PACU-in status for 5 hours until discharge. Seems to be a great deal of gaps in communication between the unit and that clerk based on what I saw. Facility wise, the surgical visitor/waiting area is drab and tired. Considering the number of cases they do, they can certainly afford to give it a refresh. The wide spot in the hall which they've dubbed a Cafeteria also leaves a lot to be desired given the size of the hospital. Lastly, the shaded cul-de-sac area for post discharge patient pickup is beautifully done and a wonderful touch given the oppressive valley heat. More hospitals should model theirs after this one. Overall, this hospital does all of the important things here correctly and for that I'm thankful. read more

I was there for a port install. The people in the OR for Interventional Radiology had no regard for me, the patient. They were rough in handling me, pushing my head without to one side in a rough manner, throwing a plastic sheet over my face without care, not making sure that the plastic tube attached to my nostrils was properly placed ( it kept falling out). When I told them I was very cold, they did nothing to provide me with a blanket and just ignored me. The never bothered to call me after the procedure to see how I was. In fact, when I got home, I was in excruciating pain. I cannot understand one iota how this terrible hospital is carrying the MD Anderson name. I would never recommend this hospital to anyone. read more

In late 2021 we used this Banner hospital for the birth of our child. Banner is in network for United Healthcare. Fast forward 12 months and we out of the blue receive an outrageous bill from Dr Anita Stola for a hearing test which is apparently out of network. We have worked for months to resolve this issue without any luck. Beware of this hospital, as they unknown providers to you who can apparently be out of network and will surprise bill you. I was contacted by representatives of this hospital regarding my review. After again explaining, in detail, I was told that my complaint would be investigated. I received a letter dated June 10 stating that my complaint was forwarded to the CEO, Michael Herring, for review. I then received a letter dated June 11 that basically stated they understood that I was upset about the rude nurse and that I had not received a COVID nasal swab. I find it incredulous that my Yelp review and then spending quite a long time on the phone with "Jenni", again explaining my experience in their ER that, for them, it all boiled down to I was upset about the rude nurse and not receiving a COVID nasal swab. NO, as I explained in my previous Yelp review and to Jenni, I sat in their ER for 3 hours while everyone else, with the exception of one other patient, (as nurse Ratched gleefully informed me) who arrived before and AFTER me, were seen. I KNEW I had COVID. It is ridiculous of them to state in their letter, closing the case, that I was upset because I had not received a COVID swab. NO, I was upset because I had a life-threatening illness for which I was treated at another medical center after I left this despicable facility, and Banner Gateway's employee was going to make sure that I would not even be seen until the 70 people ahead of me were treated. They have minimized what occured, and I guess that makes Mr. Herring feel better about the very poor way this place is run, which isn't surprising since he was once an emergency room nurse. read more

The triage nurse and tech were wonderful. My treatment nurse and ER doctor were horrible. The nurse never looked me in the eye to have a conversation. She was very sarcastic and demeaning. The ER doctor wouldn't listen to the reason why I was there. He kept over talking me and came up with some off the wall reason for my symptoms. He was very dismissive and I could tell he really couldn't care about my symptoms. I was never told about any of my results until the nurse came back with my discharge papers and I was looking confused and started asking what were the results of my imaging and bloodwork. She said to me with her back to me "we are here to make sure you're not dying and you're not dying". I will NEVER go back to that facility. read more

Took my mate in to Emergency at midnight last night, 11/18/22, for an upsetting shortness of breath. We waited 2.5 hours after being admitted and gave up as there was a roomful of people and very few people going in. Very upsetting also was the staff. One girl sat behind the desk with the security guard playing with his hair, both giggling and with masks pulled down below nose. Another when a customer approached with a question said, "WASSUP?" in a childish tone. Several people who had been there for hours asked when they would get in and were treated in a rude and dismissive way as if they were annoying to the desk personnel, who just said they did not know. Could have treated the patients in a much more compassionate way. There was more of this sort of behavior from this team which I won't elaborate on. I suggest disciplinary action for those on duty. read more

I went in to ER at my primary care physician's request. The wait wasn't bad but then I wasn't in pain. The mistake I made was that I had also taken an antibiotic for a previous UTI and was experiencing an allergic reaction to that medication. I thought I was going in with a problem with my digestive system knowing that I at least had a gallstone in my gallbladder. My PCP had an Ultrasound done but they were unable to get an accurate reading so she wanted me in the ER to get further tested. The nurse in the ER applied an IV for admission to hospital room. It was placed right at bend of arm causing an alarm going off day and night while in hospital each time I moved my arm. Nurses were very courteous and answered my concerns but could not answer my questions. From the ER on Friday to the end of my stay on Sunday I saw at least six or seven doctors two of which said an antibiotic could not cause the jaundice, itching and dark urine. It had to be whatever was going on elsewhere. One even said I probably never had a UTI even though the results from the lab were positive to an infection. I never once saw any one of those doctors twice. The only doctor who understood what effects an antibiotic can do was the oncologist that did the endoscopy. She became my advocate on Sunday when I was trying to tell somebody, anybody that I wanted to go home and let the effects from the antibiotic to subside so the bilirubin levels could go down and I can come back in to have my gallbladder removed. They wanted to keep me in until it went down so they could then operate. I knew, having taken this medication before that, that could be two more weeks or so. Two nights with two hours of sleep each night. A staff with each person taking care of their own individual responsibility. One to come in twice a day to draw blood, one to come two or three times for vitals and one or two nurses to check on you. It felt like I was assisted by robots that are not able to think for themselves. Doctors that each want to tell you what they think is the problem without listening to you. I felt once you get into the hospital system you can't get out. One nurse said "Oh, I hope you don't really think that". It's not her fault that the medical field is now a business run by corporations that don't really care about proper healthcare. It has become, tragically, very impersonal. read more

I am 83 years old and have been a patient in 3 States and one other country but have never been in a hospital where everything went perfectly. I have not one single complaint and want to mention in particular Gina, Theresa and Charizma for their loving care and kindness. I felt like I was with family and wish I could thank them all. This Medical Center should be a model for the rest of your hospitals. My husband's experience at Banner Desert Medical was ruined by a nurse who had to stay late before releasing my husband and was totally hateful. I did send in a complaint but got no apology.
