Had to leave this after the great care.
    Juan E.

I had never heard of this hospital. I knew that my mom was in there. My mom had been flown here from another hospital. I had driven through the night to get there. Once arriving there. They tell me where to go. I got your room. And she was by her self. She just woken up. The staff here are very kind. Mom loved her nurses. Mom kept telling me how she was well treated. Unfortunately I'm finishing this review a while latter. But while I was there. Mom had to use the bathroom. And she was fine going by herself. But when it was time to come back. Mom started to faint. The orderly or male nurse that was there to help. Stepped in right away. He kept looking at me for help. I think. And hate to admit it. But since mom was not fully dressed. I didn't want to look and step into help. Not my proudest moment as a son. But the guy called on his small wake talkie. And had help come in right away. He was very professional. My mom appreciated all their help. She even started to try to memorize their names. I told her that I was going to write a review. And she made me promise her that I would write about all the great care they did for her. Mom speaks English. But not as well as most of us. Especially when it comes to medical terms. The doctor did come in and out a couple times while I was there. Mom was there for a couple of days. Doctor had to run test. Moms heart was all over the place. At the end they took her off her old meds and lowered some of them. Mom has high blood pressure. And a pacemaker. The doctor there spoke fast. But he was always trying to be thorough. Sometimes bringing in the nurses. So they would help her explain what he meant. When I was there. I was able to get the info. And it was also printed out. But one thing for sure. They made sure mom was in great care. And she left better than what she came in. Like I promised mom. All great things about her experience. She told me that she had a pleasant time for what it was. She wished she hadn't come here. But glad they brought her here. And if it were to happen again. She would like to come here. And hopes she would have all the same nurses. Well for me I'm happy it turned out well. But I hope not to come here again. Unless it necessary.

I love their little gift shop, they have the best cards & the volunteers are so sweet! 2.4.18 (inside top left=make compost ;)

Went in March for a hysterectomy. Outpatient doors were closed said to go through the ER. Go to…read morethe ER they make you walk all the way to regular administration who's doors are open with a closer parking lot then the ER. I have a port because I have Multiple Sclerosis and receive my medication monthly by infusion, they refused to use it without an Xray. They also made me pee in a cup to prove I wasn't pregnant...it takes 3 appointments, waiting 30 days and a biopsy that is the most painful thing I've ever experienced in order to get a hysterectomy, who would get pregnant in that small window of time where I took 2 other pregnancy tests AND had an ultrasound. Plus since it was surgery I hadn't drank anything. Super annoying. When I came to the nurse who took care of me was great, very easy going, was prememptive with care like had a heater thing ready for me and water, explained everything, his energy was very good and calming, perfect for what was happening. I chose to stay the night in order to have pain management because left to my own devices I let the pain go too long and it causes problems. My first nurse was Coraline. I had to pee as soon as I got there, I asked her and she asked me to wait 5 minutes. Luckily for me the nurse who does the blood pressure, I think her name was Cheyenne helped me and was super sweet the entire time. Caroline did eventually come back but not in the 5 minutes and didn't remember, she did not seem very experienced. Then later in the evening when she came in I asked to have my water filled and she again said later and that I had gatorade, my mom had gone and bought snacks because Caroline couldn't find a phone for me to order food and she did place the order herself but obviously I'm not going to page the nurse everytime I need something. A very nice man, the one who transported me, saw my mom with the bag found us a phone and apologized that we bought everything he seemed pretty irritated that this wasn't taken care of by the nurse. I didn't get my water refilled until the night shift when the blood pressure guy Chris came in, he was also great. I don't remember my nurses name that night but I really liked her, she was very friendly and competent perfect care after a very long tiring day. Checkout was easy. I just really wish they had used my port because I would've been far more comfortable and that's why it's there. Coraline could also use a little help in making sure patients are comfortable, she's the only one who didn't seem to recognize what was going on.

I went in, by ambulance, in severe pain, in my right upper quad/abdomen. It was so bad, I couldn't…read morebreathe. I had to wait in the lobby more than two hours. Shortly after being left there, I got a real bad wave of pain, along with getting really hot and sweaty. My partner told one of the ladies at the desk, and she just said we have to wait. Then, they called back a man who didn't appear to be in any pain, and was able to walk normally, without help, while myself and another woman were both miserable with pain. When I finally got called back, they slowly started doing tests, first, checking for issues with my heart. But, going from an experience my girlfriend had December of 2024, we were both thinking it was my gallbladder. Then, they took blood, and gave me fentanyl for the pain. An hour later, it didn't do a thing for it. So, they gave me a different one, which also didn't help. I was finally taken for an ultrasound of my gallbladder, pancreas and liver. The tech had a hard time finding my gallbladder, when I laid on my left side. So, accurate views may not have been possible. I waited nearly four hours for those results. After nearly 7 hours there, a PA comes in and tells me there's sludge in my gallbladder, but it's not necessary to have emergency surgery. But, she wants me to follow up with a surgeon. She told me to follow a low fat diet, which I have been doing for 11 months now, to lose weight. I was discharged after that 7 hours, and the pain persisted until I went to bed, five hours later. Even now, I'm having mild pain, off and on, and I'm also starting to feel it when bending over. I saw the ultrasound report, in which they say it's sludge, but they were unable to see everything, due to bowel gas, obstructing the view. If this was the case, why didn't they do further tests? What if they missed something critical? I do have an appointment with the surgeon, next week. So, we'll see what she says.

The reviews are misleading... Before my son was born, I went through and read a lot of reviews from…read moredifferent hospitals and was nervous about going to Banner Desert - where my OB delivered. I could not have had a more dramatically different experience than what I saw in the reviews - it's safe to say that the management has heard your concerns! We came in at 9:30pm to a very full labor and delivery floor - cancelled the inductions for the day & a woman had been waiting for a delivery room for 7 hours longer than me... Things were not looking too promising. The nurse in triage, Kristy (I hope I'm spelling that right) moved MOUNTAINS for us. She continuously let us know what was going on on the floor and how my labor was progressing. When there was no delivery room available and the nurses were literally spread to their max, she found a way for us to get to a room to help alleviate my pain and welcome my son into the world. I have never felt more looked after than I did with her. Following that, the postpartum ward was delightful! The team that works in there is extremely respectful and caring. Food wise, pretty good! Not the typical icky hospital food that you hear about! If you get the chocolate chip cookie, put it next to a piece of bread for a little bit and it isn't as dry & oh so much more yummy! I hope & pray that everyone gets to have my experience! Even the OB who was on call... I don't know if I would have remotely the same delivery experience if it wasn't for him & his gentle encouragement throughout - you are the best Dr. Canestraro!

Banner Desert Hospital in Mesa Arizona failed my father in every possible way during what would be…read morethe last weeks of his life. My father was admitted on April 16th 2026 with a confirmed cancer diagnosis that had already been documented in his medical records. He sat in that hospital for five days before a single oncologist walked through his door. Five days. When the oncologist finally came on April 21st it was the first time my father had ever seen an oncologist in his entire life. And it happened on the day they were trying to discharge him. The discharge paperwork they tried to send him home with was factually inaccurate. His CT scan performed right there in that building showed possible pancreatitis, bowel wall thickening, gallstones, aggressive malignant ascites, severely elevated bilirubin of 12.80, and compromised kidney function. None of it was on his discharge papers. They listed cirrhosis and noted he should get a blood test to check for liver cancer. He already had confirmed liver cancer. That is not a clerical error. That is negligence. They tried to discharge my father for three to four days before we even had a chance to arrange proper care elsewhere. When we finally had an appointment at City of Hope they discharged him to a hotel because they refused to transfer him directly to the cancer center the way it should have been done for a critically ill cancer patient. When I advocated for my father and asked questions about his care and his inaccurate discharge paperwork they called security on me. Twice. I was not threatening anyone. I was a daughter fighting for her dying father. That is what they called security for. Nurses Kelsey and Ashley were dismissive, cold, and treated my father without dignity or compassion. They did not do their jobs and their lack of care was witnessed by our entire family. The one exception was nurse Merisol who treated my father with the kindness, warmth, and professionalism that every patient deserves. She was the only bright light in an otherwise disgraceful experience. My father came home after leaving this facility and passed away shortly after. He deserved so much better. Every patient who walks through those doors deserves so much better. If the people running this hospital ever have to admit their own parents here I hope they receive the exact same level of care that my father received. Maybe then they will understand what they put our family through. Do not come here unless you have no other choice. And if you do end up here ask for Merisol and pray she is your nurse. This hospital is under investigation and I am pursuing every legal avenue available to me.

Parking 5/5 Easy finding a parking spot in the private parking lot. Security 5/5 Evening security guard was on their game, getting visitors masked up and through the medal detector. Note to visitors, I always carry a pocket knife. No bueno back to the vehicle it goes. Never detected my Badge, left knee replacement like the airports do. All good though she was cool. Learned which floor/room my friend was admitted to and easily found her. She was experiencing a medical condition and was being treated properly for it. She didn't feel being admitted was necessary but I agreed with the doctor. After an hour she was hard at sleep and in great care. As of 1/15 she is still being treated and is recovering. Thank-You Lord, and to the caring staff at Banner Baywood! Stay Healthy my friends-SYOY!

I went in for an unexpected medical emergency. They were not super busy, but as soon as the ER doctor spoke to me, they went to work. They ran tests & we had initial results very quickly. It was a relief knowing someone was going to address my problem, especially because it was scary! In every hospital you have to be patient to some degree. There are always bumps along the way & you might even interact with a few people with little to no bedside manner & some may seem like they aren't listening. It's up to us to decide if they are important enough to complain about, because sometimes they aren't worth the time. Overall, my experience with 99.5% of the staff at Banner Baywood was great! They listened, they responded & I was treated appropriately. During COVID I personally knew too many people who were treated very inappropriately at several other hospitals in & out of AZ, so I was not so trusting. Banner Baywood gave me renewed hope. I am thankful & glad I chose Banner Baywood.
