Day 26 here at Banner Heart, she went from the Emergency Room to Cath Lab, to Surgery, to CVICU, to CPCU and every department in between. The staff was AMAZING on the 5th Floor. Today my sister is excited to have her Son come visit her. We want to recognize a shining star who stopped in for a visit. Volunteer Coal came by to restock supplies, he is very kind and a breath of fresh air. When we shared with Coal that my nephew was coming to visit he gave my sister a hand made teddy bear so she would have something to give her Son when he arrived. Before leaving Coal gave her some encouraging words and asked if he could help with anything else. His compassion , smile , eye contact , and overall happy heart , is overwhelmingly appreciated today, and to be totally honest something we have missed since leaving the 5th Floor . Unfortunately I have a few health issues that bring me to Banner Health a few times a year...Hacing said that this hospital is by far the best hospital that has ever treated me for anything medical...I don't know where they find thier employees but these people are the most kindest and attentive individuals I have to date in the health care industry. Worst experience ever. Worst doctor ever-no bedside manner, very condescending. This hospital should be reported for health and safety. This is a return visit after my initial visit 2 days ago with a sore ear and sinus infection. From the amount of masks lying around outside, to the totally uncleaned bathroom (I couldn't use it), to no towels in the bathroom I finally used, to the throw up that was still on the entrance from my first visit; the janitorial staff should be fired. Was in the hospital for 7 days. Went to take a shower with the aide standing by if I needed help. Finished shower came out and my "Personal " bag had been untied and a smoke vape (tobacco) was removed from my bag and set on top of my clothes nurse came in and berated me for having a vape on the property. I wasn't using it. They went through my personal property filed a complaint, they spoke with the employees nothing had happened and I was wrong so they dropped it if I went through their things if I went behind their desk and went through their personal property what would they have done to me? Good question I don't recommend staying here, even though you bring the problem up to Management or corporate they do nothing about it. Don't recommend taking anything with you. Okay Quality of Care. Watch your back at this facility !!! Brought this issue to HR - they performed a "Review of the incident - I was informed that they believe their 2 specific employees and "NOTHING WAS FOUND " in the investigation - AM I SURPRISED". I had a heart ablation at this hospital. My heart was punctured. the heart was bleeding into the heart preventing it from functioning properly. I had to go to I C U. I had a nurse who treated me ( or should I say didn't nurse me). I had a drain on my chest for 3 days ( to drain blood). My blood pressure was sky high and rapid heartbeats. The nurses said I was doing well to the Dr. as there was no blood draining. A Dr. took a look and realized that the bag was not open. Upon opening blod filled up the bag. Simply frightening. Nurses were packing me up to go home. Just getting water or a bedpan was near impossible from the first nurse I had. I called to get medial records it took a years, even went to records deptpartment. It was a battle. I would not recommend this hospital to anyone. Nurses also wore so much cologne in the surgery it was nauseating at 5 in the morning. Do not go there. read more

I had never heard of this hospital. I knew that my mom was in there. My mom had been flown here from another hospital. I had driven through the night to get there. Once arriving there. They tell me where to go. I got your room. And she was by her self. She just woken up. The staff here are very kind. Mom loved her nurses. Mom kept telling me how she was well treated. Unfortunately I'm finishing this review a while latter. But while I was there. Mom had to use the bathroom. And she was fine going by herself. But when it was time to come back. Mom started to faint. The orderly or male nurse that was there to help. Stepped in right away. He kept looking at me for help. I think. And hate to admit it. But since mom was not fully dressed. I didn't want to look and step into help. Not my proudest moment as a son. But the guy called on his small wake talkie. And had help come in right away. He was very professional. My mom appreciated all their help. She even started to try to memorize their names. I told her that I was going to write a review. And she made me promise her that I would write about all the great care they did for her. Mom speaks English. But not as well as most of us. Especially when it comes to medical terms. The doctor did come in and out a couple times while I was there. Mom was there for a couple of days. Doctor had to run test. Moms heart was all over the place. At the end they took her off her old meds and lowered some of them. Mom has high blood pressure. And a pacemaker. The doctor there spoke fast. But he was always trying to be thorough. Sometimes bringing in the nurses. So they would help her explain what he meant. When I was there. I was able to get the info. And it was also printed out. But one thing for sure. They made sure mom was in great care. And she left better than what she came in. Like I promised mom. All great things about her experience. She told me that she had a pleasant time for what it was. She wished she hadn't come here. But glad they brought her here. And if it were to happen again. She would like to come here. And hopes she would have all the same nurses. Well for me I'm happy it turned out well. But I hope not to come here again. Unless it necessary. read more

There should be an option for more than 5* and if that was available, Banner Heart Hospital (BHH) would be rated off the charts. Scott recently was a patient for seven days, and I can't find words to explain the amazing care we both received from everyone we encountered at BHH. BHH obviously specializes in cardiac cases, we were so lucky that Scott had surgery and aftercare here. Every single person we encountered from the Deli, to the volunteers playing piano, to the Doctors, nurses, nurses aides, respiratory techs, dietary...everyone was amazing. From a founder, Dr. Edward Perlstein, to our surgeon, Dr. El Masry, to the incredible nursing team: Liberty, Alisa, Rick, Robin, Nichole...I can't recall all names, but each was so kind, caring, and special. We were so well cared for. I would recommend BHH to anyone. What an incredible facility, everyone was sweet. read more

I have 10 years! I had open heart so and my Drs were great..saved my life,! Nurses were good. However, one Dr. His name probably should be mentioned but I don't want to get sued..told me when I woke up that I have 10 years left,!!! I just bought myself 10 years! Unbelievable. She wanted me to take Melatonin even though it's not prescribed to me. I don't believe that it works for my brain chemistry because I'm Bipolar. I had quadruple bypass surgery on November 16th, 2017. I'm not sure why I did not think of posting a review prior. My friend is a surgeon in Tucson. I asked him where and who for doing my bypass. He spoke to several cardiologist in the Phoenix area and he said that the consensus was that Banner Heart was even better than Mayo and that I should request that location. He also recommended Dr. Stein. First, if I could give 50 stars for Dr. Stein, I would, Everyone I spoke to said he was amazing and I was very upbeat going into the surgery due to the consistent positive feedback on him. He was ore than amazing. Both my left and right were 100% blocked and my other two were 85%. He was able to use both my mammary arteries for the bypass. 6 hour surgery and everything went great. The staff in the ICU were incredible. They made my wife feel right at home when visiting and they took incredible care of me and had me relaxed and feeling optimistic about the future. I went into AFIB on day 3. Not the most thrilling experience, but they got me out of AFIB. After 3 days of walking and counting steps and being well taken care of, I was able to leave. Knock on wood I never want to see them again but if I had to, this would be where I return. read more

My husband had an angiogram there yesterday, and I had to post my appreciation and relief that he was cared for in such a quality manner. From check-in to being wheelchaired to our car, he had nothing but the best of care. They made a scary situation as comfortable as possible. My husband and I moved to AZ 6 months ago, He ended up rushed to banner Baywood hospital, they had to work fast on his heart as I was told he has congestive heart failure at age 64, I walked in and they had IVs all over him and an external pacemaker on him, the nurse said, " THANK GOD, HE MADE IT IN BEFORE IT WAS TO LATE!!!!!!" Yes, it scared the hell out of me, my partner of years may die. They transferred him to heart hospital, The billing people called him while lying in hospital, at 7:00 pm someone from billing called the hospital phone in his room asking when you can pay $29,600.00 from the time before "two weeks earlier?" you must be joking!!! Trying to stay stress free in hospital Ya right! Billing came?????? Dr Green saw my husband all 4 times he was admitted and took him on as his PT even though he had full schedule. He got released and Dr wanted to see him within 6 days, I called, and the very rude front desk leaches said, nope 6 weeks sir! in the meantime another ER run and back to hospital with vitals at 74/17!!!! Couldn't believe it, once again Dr Greed and he asked why he hadn't been into see him and my husband explained why, Dr Green set him up to see Dr Sun and low and behold when he showed up for this appointment for heart tests to see how long he had, they said" you can't see our Dr because you have WA insurance, not AZ We will see you when your insurance switches!" Wow all these snowbirds best not have a emergency because Banner DRS will refuse service or at least the people at front desk! It will be a cold day in hell when he goes to Banner, I will continue CPR while I drive him to a different hospital! No wonder the cemeteries are so crowded here read more

I arrived at the ER at 8:17PM on 06/30/19. There was no line at check-in. The admin person was very pleasant & kind. The Triage Nurse was rude and spoke down to me. After checking-in I was taken to an EKG Room the Technician had a flat affect & didn't seem to care about anything the small EKG room was FILTHY! Garbage overflowed the can. I had to step on papers and look at the previous patient's EKG which was still on the screen. I was shown to the waiting room which was about as dirty as an airplane lavatory. No magazines, no tables, but it did have a charging station. I wanted to bathe in rubbing alcohol after being moved to a room. The RN's were very nice. The room had a television to keep me distracted during the endless wait. Once I was connected to monitoring the entire staff ignored all the warning tones & alarms. I was finally privileged to see the doctor. He sat down, spoke with me for about 10 minutes & left. I never saw him again. At about 11:00PM my anxiety & pain had enough. I hailed a passing staff person & told them to remove my IV. It took 3 staff to get a RN who advised me I was leaving against medical advice. Someone must have seen this as a reason to speak with the doctor. He gave me a whole 1mg pill. I agreed to stay. Hours passed. Finally I was ready to leave again. Amazingly, the doctor had left! UPDATE: I have NOT received a single phone call, email or any other contact from Banner. I sent several follow-up request with the standard, "I reached to the team on your behalf." I received a generic "thank you for your feedback" letter. I don't anticipate any further action from Banner. I have other hospital choices & will avail myself to them whenever possible. read more

This review is about the front desk staff at the heart hospital east entrance, not about the care at the facility. My 87-year-old mother is a patient of a neurologist on the 5th floor of the heart hospital. We had an appt with her doctor on Thursday, June 25 at 11:30am to discuss her treatment. When we entered the East side entrance, both of us were fully masked and gloved. We were asked where we were headed. The desk rep (left side, gray hair, stout build, 60ish) gave Mom a "clinic" sticker to put on her shirt. We proceeded to go towards the elevator when that desk person stopped me and said i would have to wait in the car. I told her the appt was for me to discuss Mom's treatment with Dr. Kumar. She said the doctor would have to call me to discuss my questions. We told her Mom tried that a couple of weeks ago but the doctor's office said we needed to make an in-office visit. I was unable to accompany her on that appt two weeks prior so a neighbor took her and was allowed to not only escort her up to the doctor's office but even went into the exam room with her. Mom then scheduled this appt so I could discuss her treatment protocol. The desk rep would not let me pass. I went to wait in the car, in over 100-degree heat, not knowing how long Mom's appt might take. I knew she would require assistance getting back to the car. I was just about to get out of the car to wait by the heart hospital door when the car passenger door opened and Mom said she had just fallen off the curb and hit her head. Since we were next to the ER, we immediately went there. We got her checked in and i went back to the heart hospital and told that desk employee that because she didn't allow me to accompany Mom, she fell off their curb and was now in ER with a hematoma. I contacted Dr. Kumar's office to notify them since they might be contacted due to her head injury. His office said it was odd i wasn't allowed to come with Mom to her appt as other people accompany patients quite often. She said due to Mom's age she couldn't believe the front desk wouldn't let me accompany her. My Mom sustained a bump to the head, scrapes to her hand, bruising to her knee and a black eye. Additionally, the ER didn't even offer her water during her 3-hour stay with them. 07.01.20 update: Randi from Banner customer service left me a vm msg 06.29.20, 2 pm to contact them. i returned the call at 2:15 and spoke with Brittany who said this was a Dr. Kumar, neurologist, issue. Obviously, she didn't fully read my review as it has zero to do with his office. It's a Baner front desk customer service issue. She said she now understood but her department doesn't handle that type of issue so she'd pass it on to another area. I haven't heard anything since then. read more

I went in because I had a cold that wouldn't go away. They seemed to think I was having a heart attack so they hooked me up to an ekg machine gave me three nitro tablets and two aspirin. My wife who is a nurse objected and was told to be quiet and mind her own business as the nurse was in charge. Well my blood pressure went to zero and for the next 9 1/2 min I had no heart beat. The first thing the next morning they put in a stent due to a blockage we were told. A week later our friend and family lawyer went in with our permission and signed letter to retrieve our records. He was told to return the next day. Well the next day suddenly I was never there. All of my records pertaining to the operation had been "lost". A follow up with another Cardiac doctor and several stress tests etc and no problems were discovered except I had a cold. It took us many years of digging and searching thru insurance records before we discovered evidence of my stay at Banner Heart Hospital. CAUTION BEWARE OF THIS HOSPITAL!!! read more

I've tried to give the Er a chance to make me feel like its a hospital that cares. I suffer from fibromyalgia and chronic back pain! I do all I can with my doctors to maintain my pain. There are times when it's so bad. It's been days without sleeping and eating. I prefer not to take pills because they have destroyed my stomach. I use medical marijuana. Which has been blessing. I hurt my back. Went and saw pain management, got my back injections. This time was different, I'm experiencing leg pain( both legs! Cramping , burning and non stop spasms. Went to Er , was there 3 hrs to be given a couple pills and sent home. Believe me if I wasn't beyond my threshold of pain. I DON'T WANT TO GO TO ER ! I HATE THE WAY IM TREATED. They even contacted my doctor. So they knew I wasn't in there looking for pills. Needles to say. I'm done with this Er. Should ever be life or death, I'll ask to go to another Er! P. S what more upsetting is dr said she would be back with something else to help. That was me being discharged. Never saw her again. Please no contact from hospital. I've tried working with you . I've even been on your pain management/ that my doctor signed. It's not like I'm at your ER MONTHLY. This hospital makes you feel worse than when you come in. Physical and MENTALLY So had to go back because doctor couldn't get me in. They canceled. Got me right in. Saw PA Kyle. Who spoke to back doctor. Came back to room told me my doctor told him not to give me too much pain meds. I needed mri, but I'm terrified of closed mri and could not lay flat on back. Pa said wasn't going to give me anything else . My doctor said no. I saw my back doctor today. I could have spine compression. I told what was said. He said PA was cocky to him. He never said anything about how much pain meds. MY DOCTOR HAS ADVISED ME NOT TO GO TO BANNER HEART! That if I get worse before I get mri . I'm to go to different hospital. read more

The ER was wonderful at Baywood. Was seen in a reasonable time. The male ER nurse did a great job. The pain was taken care of and the problem was detected. After a sonagram, it was determined there was no emergency. At that point I felt I could have been released, ( it was 3 AM), to make an appointment as an outpatient for more tests. Instead I was admitted, 6 hours later, I was given the additional test. After six hrs. I was told there was no one available to read the xray and they could not release me until the xray was looked at, which would have meant another day in the hospital without food or water. This is my first experience with the ER. I have been to this hospital before and so has my husband and we were always well served. read more

I was checked in on Mar 19th while having a massive heart attack. They immediately inserted 2 stents and cared for me in-patient for 5 days. I was then discharged and open heart surgery is planned for May 8 at 0730. I could not have received better care or felt more secure. On behalf of Mrs. Sparkman: I am writing this on behalf of my Mother who was medi-vac'd here from the White Mountains over a week ago. She was in bad shape and in serious danger of losing a limb. Dr. Riesenman and Dr. Roeder did not sugar coat when asked the prognosis and we appreciated their candor. They did their best, saved her limb and she is on the road to a long recovery. She was in surgery for 5 hours and then a smaller 40 minute follow up. They have emphasised the need for diligent rehab and communicated patiently to a stubborn but lovable elderly patient and she is on board ! The above would not be possible without the amazing attention that she has received from the rest of this Hospitals' staff, particularly on the 5th. Floor. I want to make particular mention of Nurse Melanie, and also Nurse Teresa; they turned the pre operation into a positive experience (how do you do that?), and post operation they have my Mother looking forward ! I live out of state, have made a couple of trips to the Hospital, but otherwise have been making several calls every day to check with the Nurses for updates and even when busy they let you know that and call back. My Mother did not choose to come to Banner heart Hospital but we all feel very fortunate that this is where she landed (pun intended) ! No negatives to report - this place is an easy 5 stars. Just had a surgery at Banner Heart Hospital last week. Dr. Gang is a wonderful cardiothoracic surgeon. I was really scared being told that I needed surgery and when I when I went for a second opinion to Dr Gang I thought he was much more confident and knew what he was doing. He was amazing and tried to keep the incision small. The staff at Banner Heart are amazing! I was there for 4 days and had some of the most awesome nurses: Paula, Bonnie, Michelle a few more that I can't remember their names. But you felt they cared and were very helpful when I was in pain they were there so fast. Very friendly, gentle and understanding. If you have to have surgery, this is definitely the hospital to go to. The only thing to make it better would be to have a couch like banner gateway so that my husband could have been easier on my husband who stayed with me during my stay. read more

I pretty much have to give five stars to the place that saved my life... Awesome staff, from the nursing assistants to the administrative folks to the nurses and the doctors. Without fail, everyone we came in contact with from the moment I was rushed into the ER with a heart attack until I checked out four days later after having two angioplasties and two stents inserted into my aching heat was fabulous. Thank you all for the terrific care! My only gripe would be the gowns that showed my ass as I strolled the halls during the recovery, and the kitchens uncanny ability to remove all flavor from the food. How do they manage to make green beans taste like meat that tastes like oatmeal that tastes like cardboard? But hey, that's hospitals and it's not like they are going to serve up a greasy double bacon cheeseburger to a guy that just had a massive heart attack. read more

I'm glad there is a hospital that focuses on cardiac care, but the in-room care really lacks, especially with the food. Cheapskates. I mean, you call yourself a cardiac care hospital but then you're feeding your patients foods that spike blood sugar and heart rate. Makes no sense. For example, coffee for breakfast and tea for lunch which both stimulate the heart and a no-no with nearly all heart medications. Cranberry juice that is mostly high-fructose corn syrup, that isn't good for kidneys and those on stricter diets. I mean, consider that your patient needs to be eating and drinking foods and beverages that help the condition, not harm it. Advance your sick care to well care and see if you can give the patient a boost nutrition wise and not spike blood sugar while you're at it. What's also disturbing is that the doctors don't really speak up about it. How can you have a nutrition conversation with the doctor at the hospital when a crappy, sugar-laden meal from the hospital is sitting in front of you. Try more plant-based meals. Less sugar. No-sugar-added juice. Water. Whole fruits and veggies. Lean proteins. read more
