I would like to give special thanks to Dr. Vanessa Miller. My battle with diverticulitis has led to a few surgeries over the last years. Every time I engage with her, she is very professional and has true concern for my health. She is very personable and has an excellent work ethic. I'm not just saying this from one experience. She saved my life and has given me the opportunity to live a normal life again. I trust her judgement and expertise which I don't find east to do nowadays. I would like to personally thank her for everything she has done for me. If you ever have the need for abdominal surgery, I would seek he out. I was overcharged prior to my surgery at Banner Thunderbird Surgical Center, and four months later, the issue is still unresolved. I've left numerous messages and call daily, but I can never get through to anyone. The automated system repeatedly says they will "call back in the order the call was received," yet I've received no follow-up. Extremely frustrating experience with both billing and customer service. I do NOT recommend this Surgery Center or Banner billing department. read more

This review is for the surgery center at Thunderbird, not the hospital, and not my amazing surgeon. I gave 2 stars because my procedure went well with no complications - but I credit that to my surgeon, not the center. I spent 2 hours over 8 phone calls today (transferred at least 5 times, too)...and that's following up on requests made a week ago. I was supposedly in a queue for a callback. Again, requested a week ago. I want to talk to someone about the quality of care on my day of surgery, the billing and medical records fiasco I'm experiencing right now, and the general lack of accountability that I'm encountering. I was eventually able to get a phone number for the director of nursing, but the voice-mail didn't have a name on it. I can only hope she gets it - hence my follow-up here. So far customer service is a joke, at best. read more

Chad westphal podiatrist and his office are rude and money hungr. I was scheduled for a 7:45am check in and when you call if you're running five minutes late, the answering service says they're not open yet. So I couldn't reach them to tell I was in the parking lot at 7:52 getting up there being 10 minutes late they did not see me which then caused me to have additional problems week with my Achilles bad office bad podiatrist. I also asked them to do FMLA documents and he refused knowing the results, I had a partial tear. I don't recommend them and would go see a cash register clerk before I saw that guy, but I have to because I started with him so I want to see what this idiot has to say read more

Went to Emergency Room today to seek help for my 81-year-old wife with a possible fractured hip. Nurses horrible and do not hesitate to threaten people. Security that told me (a decorated Veteran) that I must not be much of a veteran after he kicked me out for asking why my wife and I were the ONLY people sitting in the emergency room for 90 minutes? The nurse's reply" "Being in our emergency room is a privilege! You sit down and be quiet or we will kick you out of here. That is when the aforementioned security guy came in. I did file a formal complaint but attitudes like that are not allowed unless they are generated from the top down. This "not much of veteran" will never return to a Banner facility. It saddens me to read the other reviewers that encountered unacceptable care. I was there on Jan 11,2023 for a bunionectomy by Dr Chad Westphal. From registration to discharge, I was treated with care, concern, respect, and thorough instructions. I'd like to give a shout out to 3 ladies in particular who made my experience 5 stars! My admin, pre-op nurse was Emily. she was great as I was a little anxious prior to surgery. AND - she got my IV in with one stick - I was thrilled. Then onto surgery under the guidance of Sam - my ER nurse. She was caring & soothing in her words & manner. Later I had Tina as my post-op nurse. I truly don't remember much (can you say anesthesia?) but she was sweet. I'm grateful Dr Westphal chose this facility to handle my medical needs. The level of experience that my family received from this location was stellar. It is the worse experience having to watch a love one go through a difficult time. Spending days and hours at this hospital watching how hard the staff works and how up beat their spirits are helps with healing. This goes beyond the surgeons, nurses and specialty staff. The security, cleaning and a cafeteria staff were beyond friendly. No matter where you were in that hospital on every floor every person had a smile especially Melissa in C.A.R.S and Beth in ICU who are the hardest working individuals I have ever seen in a hospital. My brother had surgery on Tuesday and GAIL was his nurse in the PACU. I cannot say enough nice things about her. She was loving, nurturing, funny, informative, detailed.....I could go on and on. Had a horrible experience here, I had a cancerous mass taken out of my kidney and the after care was the worst I've ever had!! I was in my room in so much pain I kept calling the nurse and no one would come, I was screaming in pain and begging them to kill me I was hurting so bad, I ended up having to call my ex mother in law to come and help me. I even called the front desk and they still wouldn't come in my room. I told them I wanted to talk to my doctor and they ignored me. One of the aides were horrible I needed help getting back into bed and she just stood there staring at me, I asked her for help but she just stood there. It was the worst thing I've ever experienced, I've worked in the medical field and never seen such horrible care!!! After my surgery my kids were there wanting an update on me and no one would tell them anything!! read more

You know its bad when employees of Banner tell me that they, too, are squeezed by their employer when they have outstanding medical bills. When I had kidney knee stone surgery scheduled at Banner, with as many scheduling phone calls that I received from my surgeon's office and Banner Surgery Center, I should have known what was due on the day of surgery, but no, I was placed in an awkward position of decided whether to walk away from surgery or not. Instead of paying 50% of the entire bill that day, we came to somewhat of a still expensive compromise. Prior to surgery, I enjoyed the warm and conversational nurse, but she forgot to remind me to put my glasses into the bag. Subsequently when I got home, my expensive $350 (from Eye-Site) spectacles was lost. I called several times to see if I could retrieve my glasses but was given the runaround and never got them back. My surgery was a debacle but that was not Banner's. Subsequently, Banner hospital's aggressive bill collection policy began after 2 weeks of the surgery. Our family decided to pay our bill in increments, but they still continue to harass us to this day. If my insurance was not tethered to Banner, I would not come back by choice. read more

You know you're not going to get great patient care when right off the bat they only care about the money. I had an US done at another location. They found a mass. My doctor sent me here to get a diagnostic mammogram. They wanted to add another ultrasound on even though I told them I just got one. The lady who called me re priced it for me without the US. They wanted me to make the payment over the phone before coming into my appointment. I told her I couldn't do that. Backstory: My 5 year old has an autoimmune disease. It requires specialists and a lot of medication. We just found out insurance doesn't cover her doctors office (the ONLY one in the state of Arizona to treat her disease) and will have to pay out of pocket if it doesn't get an exception. Because of this we're trying to save a little. We also pay about $500 extra a month on top of insurance for her medical. Obviously right now we don't have the extra money to pay for this very inconvenient mass in my breast. Today I go in and they tell me it's $500 plus which is double what the lady on the phone told. She told me that my deductible is $2,500 so it could actually be even more then the $500+ but they won't know until after the procedure. She had to call her manager because I couldn't pay today. She seemed irritated at me and did not care about why I couldn't pay anything today. I understand they want their money and they will get it but not today. I am very nervous about my imaging. I'm scared I have breast cancer. My mom had breast cancer. So for her to not have ANY sympathy is cruel. She told me where to wait but wasn't clear or I didn't understand because I'm very nervous and frustrated at this point and went in the wrong area to wait for 20 minutes. She didn't even come get me. The very nice gentleman at the front desk did. Why was it so hard for her to physically show me where to wait?! Unfortunately we have a banner plan insurance so I get to deal with them for a year. I won't be doing this plan again. What's sad is all it would have taken was a little sympathy and compassion which clearly is lacking. read more

I signed into the desk at 5 minutes to 2 at the surgery center. on March 28..I was there for a mammogram..the secretary was at the front desk ..,,..and I went to sit down...At 20 minutes to 3...I walked over to the desk and she was way in the back. talking to some co workers......I noticed the slip with my name on it had been removed so she had obviously known I was there and removed it. i asked her."..So what s going on.".??? She said Do you have an appointment today..???? I said " Yes I signed in at 5 minutes of 2 and you have already removed the sticker with my name on it ..so you know I m here."..She was on the computer and told me...i will check and see if they are ready for you.. no apology...nothing........When the woman came to register me..I asked her what the hold up was and she was not willing to say anything or apologize either.....I work in the field.......I never leave a patient un attended..If I make a mistake...i will go back to a patient and say I am confused...Can we go over somthing one more time so I can get my head straight on this..??? This is what needs to happen in the surgery department If I had not approached the desk...I would still be sitting in the waiting room a day later...i give that secretary a 0 for her performance and the register person a 0 for her performance for not even answering my question or offering an apology........Leaving someone in the waiting room sitting there and going in the back not telling them why you are making them wait is not acceptable.... read more
