Quoted $1,000 to run 10 feet of propane pipe to my generator (and I am digging the trench for them!). On the plus side, they have only let me run out of heating propane twice over the last couple of winters, so that's something I guess. They destroyed my Buderus boiler a few years back with improper settings (wrong orifice and pressure set wrong). The boiler sooted up so badly it couldn't be repaired. I guess $100 per foot for a simple copper tube was the last straw. read more

i cannot say enough bad things about Bantam Fuel. You can't make up some of the things they have done over the years, and it's on me that I have not (yet) ended things with them. Water in the basement . . ." you need a new hot water heater:" So they quote one that's an exact match for a $600 Home Depot product, for $1,300 for the heater alone. Well that didn't happen. And in fact the hot water heater wasn't even broken. When I asked the sales person whether his unit was the same as the Home Depot unit at half the price, he literally went missing. Hmmm, so now it's time for propane tanks for a generator. So in April they tell me one thing, a month ago it's something else. On the eve of the generator being dropped, it's two different things two hours apart because the building inspector set them straight. it comes down to two things: (1) their sales staff is incompetent (TONS of turnover, for sort of obvious reasons as I feel that these folks have to bait and switch as part of their job description) and (2) they are fairly shamelessly expensive. A $2,800 tank - at retail - for . . wait for it . . . $5,400. The reason? "We're a big company and we have to make money." That's a direct quote. Not to mention they decided that they will dictate terms to the customer. With no knowledge of any of this, when the electrician heard that Bantam Fuel was doing the tank . . his reaction. "Oh no, we do everything we can to avoid them." And, probably the least of it, 15 minutes on hold to speak to anyone. The CSR who finally answered - the only good interaction of the whole thing - apologized. "We're really short staffed". Yeap. And these guys want to do more around your house? Pest control? Plumbing? Most of this work, if what I have heard around is true, is just subbed out to others with a giant markup. You are now forewarned. Do as the pros do, like my electrician. They (in this case, Greg Morrison) told me that both of my toilets needed to be replaced rather than fixed, a reasonable assessment, since the toilets were old. He told me that the floor needed to be repaired first for one, and they would give me the name of a carpenter. I bought two toilets, they sent someone who installed one, and, since they never called me with the name of a carpenter, I found my own and he fixed the floor and installed the toilet. Two years later, I had a leak from the pipes to my bathtub. The plumber who came tore out the plumbing enclosure, said nothing could be fixed, capped the lines, and told me I needed a contractor. When we were investigating this leak, I discovered that the toilet that they had installed downstairs was leaking from the base. The plumber claimed that it was not their fault--that it was the floor, although presumably this floor was fine when they had installed it. Greg Morrison came back to look at it, said I needed a carpenter and that he would call me very soon and come back with this carpenter. That was about three months ago. read more

We had a plumbing system at our home that had seriously backed up, closed by decades of grease, dirt and who-knows-what-else, and making our kitchen sink unusable. So we called BW Home Services for a plumber, and we got Kevin. And while we applaud BW for their help, we really want to acknowledge what Kevin did for us. He spent portions of three days working on this system, finally utilizing some brand new equipment that hadn't been previously tested. It stymied him for a bit (BW probably should have done better equipment training), but when he figured it out he did our job efficiently, thoroughly and very professionally. We are happy and have clean pipes. Thank you Kevin. And by the way, the woman who helped us in the BW office, Katharine, was also awfully courteous and knows her job well. Companies like BW no doubt find it easy to collect complaints, so we thought it right to let everyone that here's an instance where it worked fort all of us. read more

Dude, where's my oil? So much for servicing your customers....you left my tank empty and house freezing in the middle of winter. I called over and over for days without a response. You aren't in the popcorn business, you are suppling fuel to keep my house and family from freezing when it's zero degrees outside. Should be a little more planning and concern for your customers. At least give notice that might allow me to find fuel elsewhere. Don't just flat leave me in the cold. This isn't just a poor Yelp review cuz my steak was a little under cooked, this has implications of $1000s of dollars of burst pipes and leaving my family in search of a warm place to sleep. read more

VERY disappointed in an understatement!!! We were on automatic delivery and ran out of oil during those freezing days in January. Called repeatedly and finally spoke to a very curt "telephone answering service" at 6 pm who said they would call me back in four hours (and added "Please don't call back before 4 hours because they were experiencing a very high call volume. Guess what? This is people's heat we are dealing with ... I live with my elderly mother - being out of oil is totally unacceptable! And this weather was not unexpected!) Anyways, no call. I called back at 10 and was told somebody would call me back. At 12:30 I received a call and they said would be out for an emergency delivery between two and five and did we still have heat? At that point I answered yes. The sales lady then told me since we still have heat that they be out first thing in the morning for a full delivery. The heat totally kicked off at 6 AM. We finally went to a neighbors at 10 at which point I called to ensure that they had my cell phone number, my neighbors home phone, and my neighbor cell phone because I know that they would have to call to get in the house to restart the tank. At 1 o'clock we finally came home because we felt like we were imposing on our neighbors. Lo and behold an oil delivery was made however we received NO phone call on either of the three numbers we left them! So now we have oil but no heat! Argh! Another call into the discourteous telephone operator who is assured me somebody will get back to me within two hours. (She actually hung up on me as I tried to share my frustration with her!) Finally, Somebody did call back! Now at this point I was infuriated. Mom and I should have checked into a local motel and billed Bantam! At 7 pm someone finally came out but told me that it would take awhile because the water heats up first. I put an email out to the company on the website to share my frustration! I received an email back that said someone would reach out to me shortly. That was weeks ago. No call! Bantam Wesson your customer service leaves A LOT to be deserved! Two thumbs down! read more

Don't bother with this company. They promise one thing and fail to deliver. I ordered propane and they told me the price is 5.71 a gallon, when they delivered it, it was 6.12 a gallon. Their explanation was when it is delivered, that is when they price it not before. I had to wait 2 weeks without the ability to cook, until they decided to deliver it. Un acceptable. Their customer service is just as bad, stating it was my fault that i ran out( I'm on automatic delivery). Their oil prices are also about .30-.35 more per gallon. When asked why the price is more the answer was that there customer service will out weight everyone else! That will never happen. Don't order fuel from these people!!!! Be Ware!! Also they told me there is a diffrence in propane for cooking and for heating, another lie. According to naturalgas.com and other friends in the business, there is no diffrence between cooking and heating gasses. read more

We have used Bantam Fuel for over 20 years and never had a problem with this company until it became BantamWesson ( a merger or buyout?) and now frankly they suck. We have been on automatic delivery for years and we ran out once, then recently we have been very low almost empty and have made numerous phone calls, emails etc over the past week trying to contact them for a fill. Horrendous! The merger has created a disaster of a company to deal with. I have had Bantam since 2015 and they were great. Someone always answered the phone, they were on time, helpful and easy to deal with. Since the merger, it has been a steady slide downhill. HOLD TIMES are ALWAYS in excess of 25 min, sometimes 50 min or an hour. Half the time I hang up. The best part is that while you are on hold due to their staffing issues, they are trying to sell you more products. They can't even handle what they have! How about you stick to what you know and get your house in order before trying to expand your services. In the process of switching to Mitchell-Been on hold for 18 min already with Bantam to let them know. Craig Snyder is chasing profit, but it won't take long for word to get out. How about YOU call your own company an couple of times and see what the customer service level is. I feel sorry for the employees. They have always been great, but are dealing with such gross operational mismanagement, they don't stand a chance. read more

My story is much like many others'. I have been a longtime customer of Bantam Oil, before and after the merger. I'm auto-delivery and pay for the platinum service plan. I noticed last week that was almost out of oil and I reported it. My last auto-fill was Oct. 23 2017! I have yet to receive a delivery. I finally heard from them on saturday and I was told I would get filled on Sunday. It never happened and still hasn't. Time to switch to another company. I suspect they cannot afford to buy enough oil for their customers. They certainly are a large enough company with enough trucks and drivers. read more

I'm just chiming in, like a broken record. A customer of Bantam for many years, and until recently a satisfied one. Two days ago I had to leave town with my tank very low and the temperatures lower. I was understandably worried, and wanted to be sure oil would arrive shortly. I made several calls to confirm my scheduled delivery date and was told I was still scheduled. But no delivery was ever made. And that was after receiving a confirming telephone call mid-morning of the scheduled day (after submitting their new on-line "I need oil now" form), assuring me I would have the oil that day. Three days later and still no oil. I will now get some where I can find it. Bantam has lost my confidence totally. read more

Very disappointed of treatment of BantamWesson I called about 10 days before Xmas 2017 requesting oil because I was expecting family over the holidays and my gauge shows oil very low, I was told delivery was scheduled 1/3/18, I wanted oil but they told me I would be fine, gauges are not accurate and there is probably more then you think. I have lived here a long time and I too know about my oil gauge. Called again because they are predicting the snow storm on 1/3/18 phone is continually busy, finally get through, I was assured I was still getting oil even with the pending snow. 1/3/18 no delivery but I figured that would happen it was a bad storm. I called 1/4/18 busy all the time trying all day but finally get a answering service, no return calls again, I see the signs of a company in financial trouble. No one shows up, or calls back. Now I spending hours calling other oil companies who tell me they are busy and they service their own customers. Finally days later I find someone to deliver to me. I did not want to run out and have sludge pulled through my furnace. No one from BantamWesson bothered to even call me back. I always pay my invoice within 2-3 days so I do consider myself a good customer and been with them through all the name changes. A few days later as a courtesy I called Bantam to let them know they could skip this delivery, I did not want them to send out a driver for nothing because I found someone else to fill my tank this time, I also wanted to know when my next date of delivery would be. I was put on hold then a woman came on the phone and said we took you off automatic delivery because you used someone else I am now a cash customer. HA: What a joke!!! Cannot believe that Bantanwesson does not take any responsibility for these events. Later I found out my friend also uses Bantam, she did run out of oil, Bantam had to go to her house and service the furnace and gave her only 20 gallons. She too had friends who also was ran out of oil. This is not a company to do business with. read more

I've had nothing but great experiences with Bantam Fuel and Home. On occasion I have been left without oil but on the whole this company cares about it's customer. I just called them at 4:19 on a Friday and they had someone here at 4:45. They have been here through blizzards and bad Northwest Corner weather to fix our old boiler which has chronic valve troubles. They have also been very generous and good to us about billing and working with us financially. They recently came to do an assessment for a new boiler while I was in the hospital with a lung condition. Peter Aziz, the owner, and his team were over our house in a day to try to work out something more efficient and cleaner than what we had because of my weak immune system and sensitivity to dust. They took the time to write out a proposal for us, gave us options and seemed truly concerned with creating the best and cleanest burning solution for us. If you live in the Litchfield area and want great propane, oil and their new home air services, this is the company to contract. Sorry the other reviewer had such a bad experience a couple years ago. But people and companies change and improve over time and Bantam Fuel and Home has done just that. read more

Like many recent reviews, I can't warn enough about Bantam. My Father-in-Law at age 90 was a Bantam customer. NOTE use of the word WAS!!! He had automatic delivery and early in the morning of December 30th his furnace quit. Bantam was called, and a technician FINALLY arrived at 10PM - thus he was without heat for OVER 12 hours. The technician put 10 gallons of fuel in and restarted the furnace. The proposed plan was that a truck would arrive Sunday morning the 31st to FILL the tank. However the 10 gallons was gone before 8AM Sunday, since the house temperature had already dropped so low, necessitating the furnace to run continuously. Repeated EMERGENCY CALLS to their office were answered by a service and several messages were left, requesting a callback. All day on Sunday the 31st , my Father-in-Laws live-in Home Health Aide was calling my husband REPEATEDLY that it is too cold in the house, causing my husband to suffer a panic attack. FINALLY about 12:30PM my husband got a response from Bantams office that "40 gallons would be delivered SOMETIME TODAY, and the tank would be filled on Tuesday the 2nd." THAT was when I stepped in and called to complain and was RUDELY told "WE ARE DEALING WITH A THOUSAND CUSTOMER CALLS." Forty gallons is supposed to last 2 days when 10 gallons didn't even last 10 hours? It doesn't take Einstein to do simple math that if he burned 10 gallons in less than 10 hours, at the rate of 1+ gallon per hour...that 40 gallons ISN'T going to last 48 hours! Meanwhile, the temperature in the house has been continuously dropping. It was so cold, that the aide had to keep him bundled up in bed to keep him warm, and use the kitchen stove to TRY and get some heat. The lack of movement/exercise resulted in him actually loosing feeling and movement in his left leg during the day. At first both the aide and my husband though that he'd had a stroke. Finally at about 2:30PM on the 31st one of their trucks arrived and topped off the tank. While I am glad they finally stepped up and did the right thing, I'm afraid it was too little...too late. Instead, a 90 year old man was FORCED to suffer being without heat for a combined 18+ hours and run the risk of pipes freezing and bursting because of poor planning on your company's part!!! I have contacted another company and sent a letter to Bantam TERMINATING the account...a letter that they have yet to respond to!!! IN SHORT...STAY AWAY FROM BANTAM. They are RUDE, OBNOXIOUS, and don't care about their customers. read more

If I could give a "zero" rating, I would. This company has been disastrous since their recent merge. Not only can they not accommodate customers through their customer service department (still waiting on hold for 40+ minutes) I'd like to recap the last 48 hours. We are on automatic delivery for oil and woke up the other night to a frigid house (thermostat read 48). We called the emergency line and waited and waited and waited for a call back. No call back. We called again....and waited and waited and waited on hold....only to be told that "they were not sure if a delivery could make it today." They could send a smaller truck with 12-15 gallons to bide time until the larger delivery could be made. In the interim, we contacted a competitor to come out in the middle of a storm to deliver 5 gallons and restart our furnace to last us the day so our pipes wouldn't freeze. NO DELIVERY CAME from BANTAM came....and we froze for night number 2! We called the competitor who came out this morning to fill our tank which we appreciated (but at a much higher rate per gallon). We are waiting on the phone...again for over 40 minutes....waiting to speak with someone from Bantam. This is completely unacceptable and a horrible way to do business. In the interim, we have heard from many area Litchfield customers who have experienced the same inexcusable service. Multiple reports from neighbors who have run out of oil and given the same run around. They have branched off into other home services and cannot rectify problems nor provide appropriate support. To top it all off, they sometimes double and triple bill for services not provided. When customer service is contacted, they once again give you the run around. I urge folks to change service providers and leave this company before they leave you ice cold in the middle of the night. Cut your service contracts immediately. If anyone from Bantam reads this review, you will be hearing from my attorney shortly as it is important that your company understands the gravity of their incompetence and negligence in failing to honor contracts. read more

I had wesson oil out of Waterbury for years.When ever I needed oil delivery I would call and leave a check on the door, (no problem) Then they merged into Bantam Wesson and everytime I would leave a check on the door ,no problem,but when we had that really cold spell last year and I try to order oil,they tell me I,m not considered a regular customer becouse I,m not on automatic fill.If I,m paying rite away you would think I,m a regular costomer,right? NOW I,m redoing a bathroom in my house and ever since I bought my house 16 years ago I always used scovile plumbing out of Torrington.So I call and Tom Scovile sets up the apointment and tells me dont be surprized but when they show up for estimate it will probibly be in a bantamwesson truck becouse we merged.I said OH thats ok thats whare I get my oil from,and he says then your one step ahead of the game,ha ha. This guy Greg Morison shows up I show him what I need done,he says he will email me an estimate over the weekend.The weekend comes and goes and nothing,Now meanwhile I,m in the middle of gutting out my bathroom,and I need plumbing to be done next and he knows this, TWO MORE DAYS GO BY STILL NOTHING. I call his cell listen I need you to get back to me. Still nothing.How UN profesional just to leave me hanging like that.I had to call another plumber ,JKust becouse he did not feel like telling me AT LEAST LET ME KNOW. VERY DISAPOINTED. read more

I am very upset about the poor service we received from this company. We have been loyal customers for 21 years. We get our oil with automatic refill. On Thursday morning in the blizzard I noticed that our tank registered empty. I immediately called the emergency line and requested a delivery. After no contact I called again several times. On Friday morning I called again and explained that we were senior citizens and requested a delivery again. Around 3 PM the furnace shut down due to lack of oil. I called again and was told we would get an emergency delivery after 5. By 6 PM I called the emergency line and the cell phone of the administrator. Again we were promised an emergency delivery between 11-1. It was now zero degrees. No delivery! Finally after 9 this morning and after a cold, difficult night we received our regularly scheduled fill up. I just found out that they made an emergency delivery at 4 AM right near my house to someone who was very low on oil. We were out! This is unacceptable. I will be changing companies soon and I warn all to avoid #Bantam Wesson. read more

Similar experience to others. In March we came up to our house (it's a second home) and found that both oil tanks were empty and we had no heat. We were always auto-fill customers and this had never happened before. We got the runaround for hours and hours that night, finally got a delivery. To make matters even worse, when we went online to see when the last oil delivery had been, it said that they had delivered oil the DAY BEFORE! Which was of course impossible. And they are still chasing us to pay the bogus bill! We canceled our account and have notified the company that we will not pay fraudulent bills. read more

This company used to be reliable, but it was taken over and now it is horrible. They let our tank go dry twice and their service was incompetent. The answering service could not communicate with the driver so we had no idea when or if they were coming to fill the tank. No apology call and when I cancelled the contract they would not give me a rebate. read more

Similar story here. Bantam customer with few problems until the recent merge with Wesson. Oil tank went completely empty even though I am on automatic delivery. Then no heat for 24 hrs. until oil delivery. After that, the problem got worse as they never returned to change the filters. Sediment collected in the lines and my boiler shut down. Could not get BantamWesson to answer phone. On hold forever. Ended up paying for a local technician to come over to fix issues. He had to come by twice as did my "handyman" who came over 4 times as a pipe also froze due to fact I had to shut the system down as the boiler was making loud distressed noises. Had no heat when it was 10 below - all because BantamWesson let the tank run dry and did not follow up to change the filters and clear the lines. This has cost me hundreds of dollars. I have about the same story as anyone that uses Propane, I was with a company that started out wonderful but then several years later they turned on my so I started looking around for a better provider of Propane. After looking at several providers I settled on Bantam mainly because they answered the phone the fastest, set up an appointment to swap my tanks without a commitment from me because they knew I was still shopping and their rates were in line with the local reasonable rates. After a few days of waiting for some providers some that never returned my calls I called Bantam and confirmed my appointment. They took care of everything for me. Bantam called my old propane company and told them to stop delivering to me and that they could come get their tanks after December 24th. Their drivers came out on December 23rd and did a great job of swapping out the tanks and making the plumbing look like it was done by a professional. They let me clean out the area behind and under the tanks before they put the new tanks in and even washed the new tanks for me. After the tanks were installed and working another driver stopped by a few hours later to top off the tanks so I wouldn't run out. Their billing and deliveries have been spaced out such that my propane bills have been reasonable and I have never felt that I was going to run out of fuel. So far I am six months in and they have been great. As for George B, I have to say that while there is no difference in propane for cooking and for Heating, but there is normally a huge difference in the price of propane for cooking and for heating because of the volume consumed, use less fuel and you have to pay more, that is the way it has always been. read more

I cannot recommend this business. I tried 15 year ago to have them evaluate and or/install a new furnace in a house that I had just purchased. It was a small older foreclosure that needed a lot of work. The sarcasm given during the initial consult was mind boggling. You live here? No just bought it, trying to fix it up. Well, nothing good about anything I see. Fine. Let's get to the point. I need a new system. Just all over rude and the quote was late and almost 50% higher than what I ended up paying. Forward 15 years to last night. I came home to what sounded like no oil in the tank, a high pitched hum. I looked and saw that there should still be around 1/4 or more. My regular oil company didn't seem to have a service person around at night so I called Bantam. They really shined on this area. After being on hold for 30 seconds, I was told someone would call me back. Dave the tech, called within 10 minutes, regretfully informing me that he was on a job that would take at least 2 hours. He walked me through a reset, and I told him I would call back if any problems. I called back to the service to say that he didn't need to call, as everything seemed fine. Dave called anyway and we walked through things again because i still didn't seem to have any heat. He assured me that the pipes wouldn't freeze overnight and to try and run the furnace again. This morning, something's still wrong. I called Bantam, because now I am impressed by the customer service. I am sent to 3 different people. Because I don't have an account, I am instructed to go online and fill out a credit app essentially. In an emergency? You can't take a check? No, that's just plain wrong. You lost a customer for the second time and I will never, ever do business with you. read more

Not very good. The fuel is 30-40 cents more expensive than other fuel oil companies in the area, and the service is uneven. Sometimes the service tech's know their stuff but other times they seem to get stuck on little details that are not important. Also, the customer service can be sloppy because they don't call back to solve any problems. You have to keep after them. I understand they had a big spill recently and were trying to get back to normal, but they should get enough people in the office to fix problems. read more

My experience with problems with Bantam was very different. Several years ago I called for service to fix a boiler on a Sunday. The repair person did not properly test the installed equipment. The automatic shut off did not work and the boiler kept running at full speed until pipes burst in the attic, sending water through two floors of my newly renovated home. The technician returned and immediately admitted that it was his fault. Caused $25,000 in damage. When I called the owner at Bantam to speak about the problem the next day, he did not take my call and did not return the call for several days. When he did finally return the call, he confirmed that the technician had not been properly trained. I have since told every person I know in the area to not use Bantam and several have either decided against using them or terminated their relationship based on this experience. read more

A month ago I schedule an appointment to have my furnace serviced. Of course, you have a four hour window & you take off from work. Right now, I'm at a boiling point in which I called them about my service call. They told me they had to cancel my service call because they had so many emergencies. Emergencies come first. They said they tried to call me, but I never received a call & I needed to make another appointment. I guess what they are saying. If you have an emergency, they can come. But, if you have a schedule appointment you made a month before. They can't come. So, if I go ahead & make another appointment. Why couldn't this happen again. Why even bother to do business with them. When I told the manager I wouldn't be rescheduling, they did apology. But, she didn't seem to care about it & it was up to me to make new arrangements. On their website a customer said the following. "Because of the customer service. They are organized,prompt,responsive,helpful,friendly & caring."I'm not saying not to go to them. I guess at times they do give you good service. But,sadly for me. They didn't give me the helpful, friendly & caring service. read more

Again, They were great at First. Customer service, especially Mindy will come across as very happy and sweet, then she can turn on a dime. Very nasty, only wants to cheat you out of your money. Gives you false information to try to keep you, I am so fed up with that company. They have no idea what is going on. Starts to charge you extra, I'm not even sure they know what they should be charging for and what not for. Agree, they will speak to you in sarcastic and condescending tones. ADVISE: Get out when you think they are still good, other companies are far less per gallon, other companies don't charge you tank rentals, other companies don't lie to you, etc. Got to keep this short, so trust me, change ASAP. Just start to ask people out there what they think of Bantam Fuel, I have asked 4 people so far and got Nasty, Highway robbers and liars. within a few days. I found no good reports. Used Bantam for several years - great at first, but customer service is now terrible. We have a great financial reputation, never late - have been homeowners with budget plans for over 20 years. I have had folks speak to us in sarcastic and condescending tones; refusal to send a written contract after several emails and phone calls. (Only willing to offer a "verbal" contract!) Didn't respond to most of our emails and calls... THEN changed the monthly budget rate without notice by $300.00 which would have put us over our all-time high with our old inefficient boiler by over $1000.00 ... a letter that came AFTER the increased bill (which is typical) offered no explanation for the extreme hike - maybe that is why they refused to send a contract. Reminded us of the F&S story... so, buyer beware, we switched as soon as we could. We feel great relief, although Bantam's service crew was awesome (but NOT the service manager - not effective with products or customers at all.) Since our experience, many friends have shared the same types of experiences. Bantam - get back to caring about your customers and perhaps you can change your reputation. read more
