I have been wanting to try West African food for quite a while and just never found anywhere near where I was so when Bantu House showed up on my IG i was like let me try it since it's so close. I canNOT believe what I have been missing!!! I tried the egusi soup with pounded yam and was literally floored by how good it was. I brought some home for my wife and kids and they all loved it. I've been back several times since. Unfortunately I NEVER see anyone in there so I hope they are getting enough service to stick around. I recently had dinner at Bantu House with my daughter. I am not very experienced with African cuisine outside of South African restaurants and a few Ethiopian-style places, so this was a very new experience for me. Overall, I found the food to be very flavorful, well seasoned, and unique. My daughter and I actually ended up liking each other's meals more than our own, so we switched plates, which worked out well. We also ordered a few extra items, including wings and yams. The pounded yam was interesting and very different from anything I usually eat. It is probably not something I would go out of my way to order again, but I am glad I tried it and now understand a little better how it is eaten. The one disappointing part of the visit was the ordering experience. The young man who rang us up was polite, but he was unable to make any recommendations. He said he had been working there for about three months and still could not really suggest what to order. For someone like me, who is unfamiliar with this type of food, recommendations would have been very helpful. I would have appreciated some guidance on the most popular dishes, common choices, or what first-time customers usually enjoy. That said, the owner was extremely kind. She came out to our table, spoke with us, and helped explain how to eat some of the food we had ordered. I really appreciated that. She came across as a very sweet person, and based on her hospitality alone, I would come back to support the business. This style of food may not personally be my cup of tea or something I will crave often, but I respect the flavor, the care, and the local business behind it. I would give Bantu House four stars. It could have been closer to 3.5 for me personally, mostly because of the lack of ordering guidance, but the owner's kindness and the quality of the food pushed it to four. read more

It was my first time trying African food. I had sent my mom to go pick up the order, and she waited for about 20-30ish minutes. I ordered the egusi soup & okra soup with yam fufu and corn fufu. Very very flavorful! The egusi soup with yam fufu was my favorite. However, when I left the soups sitting out for my partner to try after coming home from work, they both somehow became a bit salty? And he wasn't able to enjoy it like how I did when it was fresh. There's not a lot of African restaurants in Cypress, but this place is definitely worth a try. Still can't get over the texture of fufu! It's so pleasant with the soups. read more

I love egusi soup and it's been hard to find an African restaurant that makes their soup without crayfish. So when I found this place and they told me there's no crayfish, I was so excited. The egusi soup is delicious! There's not a difference in taste to me. The service is good and it's very cute on the inside. I would definitely recommend this place! read more

I love coming here for my work breaks. The staff is always friendly and they are attentive. Inside is always kept clean and although it's never busy inside thats actually what I like the most too. It's the perfect spot to unwind during my work shifts. I always order the Egusi soup with pounded yam, it has the right amount of spice and so flavorful. I was really happy to find this place right down the road from where I work. I always recommend this place to people who are curious or wanting to try this type of food. I also have a gluten allergy and although I haven't asked if their fufu and egusi is gluten free, I noticed I barely or never react to the meal Im eating which is why Im always here knowing I can go back to work with no reactions! read more

We decided to have lunch here yesterday for the first time. The restaurant is clean and comfortable setting. Once we decided on what we wanted to have we had to beckon the waiter to come take our order. We ordered water with our meals but were told no ice so we were like okay! The waiter said they do have room temperature water and bought us bottled water which was added to our bill. He didn't tell us there would be a charge. Once we placed our order he stated there was a 30 minute wait so we waited. Three of us ordered the tilapia plate and one ordered the mackerel plate. No other patrons in the restaurant the whole time and we understand this place is somewhat still new. The food finally came and it was at the right temperature and well seasoned and delicious. We met the owner and chef. She wasn't very talkative and lacked personality as we tried to make conversation. Not sure if I would visit again as I don't like the 30 minute wait on the food prep time. I understand orders have to be prepared as orders come in for lack of customers right now. The waiter missed out on tips because there's no place on the receipt to write in a tip. When he brings the receipt your meal is total and charged. So he said we could Zelle or cash app him a tip but I decided against that and most of us didn't have cash. After the Houston Chronicle write up, I had to give this place a try. Ordered takeout and was served by the pretty daughter of the family that owns it. She said the family is from Cameroon. My friend and I loved the beans and the cabbage the most; one of the dishes (beans, I think) was a little spicy, but not more than we could handle. The bread made of corn was good for dipping into the peanut soup. Scoop of chicken had flavorful spices. And the plantains were great too. Definitely give them a try. read more

My wife and I stopped by after a bit of shopping in Cypress. We started with an appetizer of Beef Suya. It arrived in a bowl with little cubes of beef garnished with some raw onion. It tasted like a mildly spicy biltong or beef jerky that is not dried out. The serving size was larger than we expected, but it tasted so good that we quickly ate it all. My wife ordered okra soup with oxtails and fufu. The soup maintains the okra slime, but we love gumbo and are not bothered by it. You can spoon the soup or use the fufu to pick up the soup with your hands. I ordered pepper soup with goat and jollof rice. Usually, the goat meat I encounter is either heavily spiced or slathered in a flavorful sauce. Here, the goat is lightly seasoned and otherwise left to speak for itself. It was delicious. The jollof rice reminded me of high-end Tex-Mex restaurant's mexican rice, but with deeper flavor and a more pleasant texture. The pepper soup itself was my favorite part of the meal ... delightfully spicy and full of flavor. The consistent theme of everything we tasted was depth of flavor. The flavors penetrated every part of the dishes, and lingered in your mouth to remind you of the deliciousness of what you just ate. My mouth watered as I wrote this review, and I wish Bantu House was closer to where we live. We will visit Bantu House again the next time we are in Cypress. read more

Wife, son and I came in for lunch and the food was great. We love trying new cuisines and the server helped us as well with recommendations and he was not not wrong. Every thing was excellent. I got the Medium Redfish, and it was delicious. Fish was cooked perfect and the seasoning was amazing. Wife got the Eguzi and she was very pleased. She got both pounded yam and Eba with it and we enjoyed it with both. My son got the fried rice (he's only 8 so I couldn't talk him into the Mackerel) he demolished his portion.
