Used Yelp's Request a Quote feature to request assistance with weeding, last month. Never got a reply of any kind. Given at least two other reviews stating similar issues (visible ones, at any rate), and the 70% response rate for the feature cited on this very page, it seems that this place is either shoddy on keeping up with business, or choosy about who to even bother lifting a finger for. But hey, if they actually got back to me and were able to assist, I could update this to reflect actual service quality. I have a feeling, though, that my latter suspicion is the more accurate one, and anticipate I'll get turned down (in the event I do even hear back at all). Update: the reply below from the company, purportedly too busy to help me for the past month, arrived within -minutes- of my review being posted. Then, an "unable to service" reply was immediately provided to my quote request, tersely saying they could maybe help past the turn of the year (a reply which would have been entirely acceptable, had it been timely and not in the wake of having to mention it here, a month later; there's no indication I ever would've gotten a response otherwise). I replied expressing how the timing of the only-when-prompted response was not good quote handling, and got back an unexpectedly lengthy reply from the "too busy" individual (see screenshot below). Though I approve generally of businesses attempting to make things right, in this specific context, I now feel like an attempt is being made to bribe me to make the bad review go away (i.e. never has a landscaper, or even really any home services professional, offered to take me to coffee out of the blue, let alone to discuss a quote), by someone who all the while continues to harp on not even having enough time to have initiated business with me in a responsible manner. Though some might feel satisfied by this particular response, I come away feeling like some sketchy and spurious behavior is at hand here, disproportionately affecting certain customers (from what some other reviews describe, possibly ones which aren't big or regular enough) and leaving them out in the figurative cold. Indeed, nearly a third of their received requests don't get answered at all! While some projects may be outside the scope of a particular firm's focus or available time, and tactfully replying as such is perfectly reasonable, leaving such requests wholly unanswered is not a way to get people requesting subsequent quotes on other, potentially more preferable or feasible, projects. Other reviews indicate I'm not the only one feeling so spurned. Speaking of which, I had requested quotes for this project from 4 companies at once, using Yelp's integrated functionality. All 3 other companies provided a prompt reply within approximately 48 hours. 2 of them were very brief "unable to service" replies, and I have no complaints about them or that outcome, despite it meaning not getting my project underway right away. Banyan was the 1 outlier in this process, and only addressed the matter at all once other prospective customers could see it had happened--again, within minutes, where they'd supposedly been too busy to say "sorry, we're too busy" for the entirety of the month leading up to my review. Then, when it became visible to others, they could somehow, as though by magic, attend to it immediately, busyness notwithstanding. I should state that I believe in the impact of buying local and supporting small businesses, particularly with the modern corporate-ocracy present in much of our country (and indeed the world). I like helping entrepreneurs who run quality businesses with continuing to excel, typically via my custom. I do not deny that ownership of one such is likely to be hectic and stressful, and I have sympathy for those under such strain--and admiration for those who do well by customers and employees despite such challenges. However, this specific situation and its handling are not aligned with the behavior I would--or should--expect or acquiesce to from companies I do business with, regardless of size. I would not be able to provide a five-stars review for this company in light of this experience, even if they subsequently did brilliant landscaping. In light of that, I do not plan on doing further business with them, because I don't believe either of us will get what we're seeking in the process (which in their case, appears to be frequent and ongoing big-ticket business, accompanied by a sparkling review). Banyan and his crew did such a great job on my front yard last year, I had him 'attack' my 40 year old backyard that desperately needed help! They removed 40 year old juniper, including grinding out the stumps. Planted over 70 plants, that we worked together to pick out, to thrive in drought conditions. RIPOFF!!! At first, I wanted to give Banyan and his team 5 stars for being respectful and professional; sadly, this is what I give and here is why... I asked Banyan for an estimate over the phone. He went over to the place and gave me the one-time estimate, plus his rate for the monthly maintenance we were looking for. We closed a deal and we were happy with the work they did the first time, as the small yards were in desperate need of work. After that first-timer bigger paycheck, Banyan stopped showing up with his team. Banyan sent his team over two more times before texting me that unfortunately they could not do our monthly maintenance, as it's only one time and he wants to go, at least, two times a month. We wanted to have an actual appointment set with Banyan so that one of us could be there to supervise their work. Banyan said his schedule was "full" and he wasn't able to make an appointment (date and TIME) with us every time they'd go. I understood his point and asked if we could work something out. He gave me Tim, another gardener's number, and said "I'm sorry we can't work with you anymore." And that was the last time I heard from Banyan. I give Banyan props for being polite and professional every time we spoke or texted, and also by offering me Tim's number, but we still feel that we were RIPPED OFF. Banyan and his crew are awesome. I was referred to Banyan landscape by Perpetual tree service. Perpetual is my go to tree guy. Banyan has been responsive, reliable and reasonable in price. He has completely relandscaped my property. My backyard was full of overgrown plants and dirt and weeds. He took out most of the plants, put new drought tolerant plants, and then gravel. He also fixed a retaining wall and my gates and installed drip irrigation. The front yard is in progress with expanding driveway and then adding gravel in the rest of the yard. They were very professional, showed up when they said they would, and did a great job. They cleaned up all of the debris from cutting up a dead tree, and hauled off all of the trimmings from my yard. There isn't enough praise that can be put into words for Banyan and his hard working team. They put in a full day's work, working tirelessly from morning to evening. Banyan's prices are very fair. He (yes! He rolls up his sleeves too and works as hard as his team!) and his crew removed a LOT of sod, and he did it the right way with a sod remover instead of roto-tilling like on other quotes I was given. He also replaced sprinkler valves and put in a shut-off valve, plus replacing our sprinklers with a drip system. Oh yeah, he hauled away a huge load of garbage (old out-door furniture's and junk) including an 8'x7' old tool shed, again at a very fair price! I was surprised but happy when he said he could come back the next day to do the job as I had been wanting to get this done for several months. He showed up the next morning and got right to work. Same as everyone else here, we also had a wonderful experience with Banyan's Landscaping. We hired him to skin and trim our huge Mexican fan palm as well as installing sod.
