Depends on who you get I think. The waitress that served us seemed to just want to get things over with and didn't listen to me until the end and just rushed off. I asked for Vietnamese iced coffee 1/2 sweet and she just gave me a hot coffee full sweet. I hate that there's no good Vietnamese place in Kerrisdale. Service here is pretty mediocre. There seemed to be one nice server, but she wasn't our waitress. I don't think I'll be back for a long time again. Maybe when they change hands again. Who knows? read more

This Vietnamese Bistro offers over 20 types of soup noodle with a variety of soup base. This is quite impressive. Pho is mostly known and acknowledged internationally, but if you travel in Vietnam from south to north, you will be surprise of the variety and creativity in soup noodles. Tried pork and crab meat noodle which comes in a sour and sweet soup base with lemon grass and bean sprouts served in the side. Well done! read more

Saw this while walking by and decided to try it! It is very tiny inside but if you can get a seat, your stomach will be pleased! Their banh mi is delicious! I especially like their lemon grass spicy beef which is made fresh and not too spicy! Something about this little spot is different from other banh mi I've had before. The seating is limited but sitting on a stool by the window and people watch is what I like to do when solo. We went for a casual weekday lunch and found the restaurant to be quite busy given that it was a later lunch (after 1p), and it continued to stay busy while we were there. I ordered the chicken pho which was good - large serving, very tasty. In terms of pricing, it's relatively inexpensive at $10 CAD for sandwiches and ~$15 CAD for pho. I've come here a bunch of times over the years, but for some reason never penned a review. Also, in past visits, they had been out of their spicy peanut sate broth, so I didn't get to try it until now. Now that I have, I'd say that Baoguette has among the very best vegetarian pho options with spicy peanut pho broth. Their base vegetarian pho ($15.50) can be upgraded to a spicy peanut sate broth ($2.50), which makes it a fairly expensive bowl of pho, but it's also among the best. My soup came out in about 10 minutes. The portion is very large, coming with all sorts of veggies (broccoli, cauliflower, carrot, celery, and some white onion), fried soft tofu, nicely cooked thin rice noodles, and the usual garnishes. The broth is similar to Pho Goodness' sate pho (which is also among the best in town), with a deeply rich peanuty character, ample spiciness, and perhaps a touch less sweetness. Wonderful depth and complexity. Service is fine -- efficient and competent. Simply put, top-notch veggie sate peanut pho. Highly recommended. read more

But our standard order has become two of the grilled pork over vermicelli (with one subbing additional salad in place of the noodles). Delicious and a generous portion. Pricing is reasonable. This is a good value, and we partake periodically. The service ranges from adequate to very good. Parking is available on the street at meters, but we typically find parking for free in the neighborhood on the next street over. Bottom line: This has become a regular spot for us. Came in for lunch yesterday with two friends after buying a one-month fitness room pass at the nearby Kerrisdale Community Centre. I understand there is another Baoguette Vietnamese Bistro in Richmond, too. We ordered spring rolls and beef pho noodles and also a stew and egg noodles. The food was standard Vancouver Vietnamese fare and not outstanding from anywhere else. The food was a bit pricey, but the volume was perhaps slightly more than elsewhere. The flavour was a bit bland and no garlic or other condiments like in Vietnam, so it needed considerable help from a bottle of Sriracha sauce. At $15 for a bowl of pho, it is on the expensive side. The boy/waiter working there was rudeness of a boy working there, he was impolite and aggressive with no reason and acted strangely. The proprietress was rather cold and seemed only to want to hustle the patrons out the door as soon as possible in order to separate their cash from them. Not a good feeling. The staff and service need to improve. read more

Went here for a quick bite to eat in kerrisdale. Didn't have the highest expectations as I typically go to East Van to get my authentic fix of Vietnamese food. I only ordered their chicken banh mi as I had to save room for dessert at my next food destination. Chicken banh mi was great. I'm a huge fan of the banh mi saigon on Victoria Street, but I found this one was super flavourful, chicken was moist, bread was nice and crispy, and it was priced similarly to the going banh mi rate (around $5.50). I have had friends who mentioned their pho and vermicelli bowls are good. Next time I'll order more of a proper meal versus snack. Cozy little place, nothing fancy but solid food and decent service. I'm just happy that there's a fairly priced and good tasting Viet place in the west side of Vancouver! I'm excited to come back! read more

We typically eat at the other Vietnamese restaurant but it was closed so stopped here for the first time while visiting my aunt. Small restaurant in the thick of Kerrisdale with a lot of foot traffic. Limited seating for how busy they can get but we noticed customers were kind to accommodate and adjust seating to help the owner out. She was nice and took a liking to my husband. I wouldn't say this is the cleanest restaurant. They do have limited staff so I can see how when busy it could be a challenge to keep up. We ordered 4 dishes but they did forget one and ended up removing it from our bill at the end - this was fine because we were full by then. We ordered a couple bowls of Pho and Bun Bo Hue. My husband made a comment how the Bun Bo Hue wasn't as it typically tastes at other restaurants - was lacking essential ingredients. The pho tasted good to me but nothing extra ordinary or unique that made it stand out. The bean sprouts/mint/lime served looked alright. I drive by this restaurant on the daily on 41st, and there's always a decent crowd inside. Once I tried it, I realized why. They're Banh Mi is the best one I've eaten in town. With flavourful meat and fresh bread, the taste just bursts into your mouth. They have plenty of options of different banh mi's, but the house special and lemon grass chicken are my favourites. The Bun Bo Hue was great as well- lots of onions and meat. And when I say lots of meat, I mean LOTS of meat. Toppings were more than I expected, and the soup was also pretty good, with quite a bit of a kick to it. The lemon grass chicken was a hit try, but I think the pork would be a better choice for the next time I come. Overall, I am adding this place on my list of favourite pho places. Still sitting here eating as I'm writing. Pretty disappointed for my first time here. The service is so slow which I think is unacceptable. My friend and I arrived first and were waiting for our third friend so they didn't immediately come take our order which is okay. However after our friend arrived, we sat for another 8-10mins before we asked them to come take our order. After that, our food took 30mins to arrive. The restaurant is not even busy at this moment. Needless to say, not impressed. I ordered the beef wrapped in betel leaves. Most restaurants with this dish give you full beef rolls. Here, they cut it in half so I feel like you're not getting your worth for the money. Just a heads up in regards to this particular dish. The flavour was decent so it's not bad. The service is very good (it's the style of service where if you have additional requests, you ask through waving/directly asking the server, which is typical for Vietnamese and I don't mind at all!) I wanted to bring some food for my crew to a photoshoot and called this place. The lady who picked up the phone was so pleasant, took my order, repeated my order and thanked me. I asked her what are her most popular salad rolls as they have at least 4 types: shrimp, pork, lemongrass chicken and salmon. She went over them and made recommendations. Wonderful service! Tasty food. I had the lemongrass pork vermicelli and the pork was very well marinated and grilled to perfection. The rest of the crew had the assortment of salad rolls and absolutely it. I ended up ordering the shrimp and lemongrass chicken versions. Look forward to dining in next time and tasting more dishes. read more

The Chicken Curry here is the best! The Pho is very good as are the spring rolls and bahn mi. Sometimes you do have to wait a little while but I've always found the servers friendly and I don't mind waiting for good food. Nice addition to Kerrisdale. read more

Passed by this Banh Mi / Pho places many times and finally giving it a try! Overall conclusion: Pho was nothing special, Ordered : #19 Large : the House Special, the broth was just ok a bit on the sweet side and lack the beef flavour that we all come to expect from Pho. I had to say they didn't skim on the beef though. 3/5 #28 : Seafood and minced Pork Rice Noodles (soup on the side), sorry totally not what I had expected, the noodles came out in a clump and cannot be separated, I did add a bit of soup to loosen it but still way too starchy to eat, it's too bad, I was actually looking forward to it! Other places serve this dry toss noodles really well and the noodles are rinsed well to get rid of the extra starch in the noodles, hope they will improve!! 1/5 Spring Rolls with Crab & Pork : under done and not crispy at all the filling was just barely cooked, again too bad! This is actually featured as a special item !!This is one of my favourite Vietnamese items!! It's really amazing sometimes how lack of competition can result even in a city where Pho shops are more then burger joints that it's because of this particular neighbourhood this is the only one and they kind of take it for granted for the food quality they serve. read more

I honestly don't know why the reviews for this place is so bad. The service can use some improvement but this pho is honestly one of the best I've had in Vancouver. I basically go at least once a week now. Pro: The soup is so delicious and the beef is so juicy. I always order a side of lemongrass grilled chicken too. This one is always incredibly yummy. I haven't really tried anything else from here since I am so addicted to these two. The portions are also very generous. I've come with guy friends who could barely finish a large pho. Con: The spoons aren't always clean. This I find super gross at times when it's totally oily and you can literally wipe it off with a napkin. No biggie, I just ask for a clean spoon. Had a nice bowl of sliced beef and beef brisket pho. Reasonable volume for a large. The soup is clear (and to some, maybe too clear if you're used to a rich beef flavoured soup base). Seating is quite comfortable, and they've opened up the space to air out the whole restaurant. (Remember this used to be Avenue Grill). Service was nice at the end. I went in when everyone was either on a break or the late shift has not started yet. There was only one lady working the whole place. Will go back to try the rice dishes next time! read more

I rarely dine out in the Kerrisdale area and was brought here by a friend to try their banh mi. They have a 2nd location in downtown which has more pictures and reviews. There are some items on the menu that have been crossed out but when you try to order their specialty items such as the steam buns with pork belly, the beef curry banh mi, salmon banh mi etc. Don't know why they didn't cross these out as well. We ordered: -#1 House special Banh mi (3/5): Decent sized banh mi. The bread was nice and fluffy and it tasted fresh. However, for 6 bucks I've had better banh mi that tasted way better and for cheaper price. Also came out 15 mins after the #4 banh mi. -#4 Grill pork patty banh mi (2.5/5): This came out fairly quick. I'd say 3 mins after putting in our order. The bread was dry and hard. Did NOT like this at all. The filling actually tasted good. But I suspected that the bread has been sitting out for a while. Had the House special came out any earlier I'd send this one back. -#9 Salad rolls (3/5): The salad roll itself was ok but the sauce is what saves this dish. It adds another dimension to it. They were also generous by giving us each a sauce of our own. One weird thing was that they brought out the sauce with our first banh mi and our salad rolls didn't come till after 20 or so mins. We questioned whether this was for dipping our subs??? But no we didn't. -#69 Iced Vietnamese coffee with condensed milk (3.5/5): The coffee here was pretty good to me. Not too strong and right amount of sweetness. Overall, the timing of bring out the dishes needs to improve. Luckily we were sharing. Otherwise, one would have to wait at least 15 mins before the other could start eating and have a stale bread with it too. And isn't the salad roll suppose to come first? There was no checking up on us and no topping up of our glasses. Doubt I'll be coming back. read more

My friend and I came here on a not really busy day. After we ordered like 10 seconds, I wanted to change my mind. I even went to the counter to change the order myself, but the young female waitress made a super ANNOYED face at me. I don't expect superb customer service at this place but please at least have some basic manners? The food is so so but this attitude to serve your customer is plainly rude. Terrible service, especially from the older waitress/cashier. I have been in here twice with my buddy and we have experienced the same unwelcoming service twice. I really don't have much expectations when it comes to service, unless I am eating at a fine dining restaurant... However, this waitress clearly went out of her way to be unfriendly and make us feel unwelcome. She was unresponsive when we asked her questions about the menu, glared at us, rolled her eyes, and even slammed our food on the table. I will never come here again or recommend anyone to come here. No one deserves to be treated with such disrespect and hostility. read more

My order was mixed up. When I returned the wrong order, the food went straight to the drink cooler in the dining room of the restaurant. It seriously made me wonder where my new order might have come from. I could not eat the food and won't go back there. I also saw a lady in the kitchen heat up my chicken in the mictowave with no mask on. I strongly believe that everyone who works at a restaurant should wear a mask at all times. My favorites are their pho dac biet which hits the spot with great flavor and their house special banh mi which is loaded with good stuff. Eat in food would be a 3.5 star with service lacking but doable. But I tried to order take out once and had them hang up rudely on me twice because I couldn't remember what number the item on their menu it was. So instead of calling a third time and having them hang up on me a third time, I went to one of the many other pho restaurants nearby. I get that restaurants may sometimes get prank callers but if you're going to combine terrible phone communication skills with an even worse attitude then you're going to alienate a bunch of customers. If they have such a bad attitude in service it makes you question their food too so definitely not coming here again. read more

We went during an off-peak lunch time, so we were seated quite quickly. Ordered a special sub (typical viet deli meat sub), a chicken sub and a pho to share. Their subs are quite good - it had a nice crunch to the baguette and had a decent amount of filling which I enjoyed. The pho wasn't anything special, but it definitely satisfied my craving. Both the pho and the baguette portions were better than average. However, I would have to take off 2 (1.5 if I really could) stars because the service was quite slow. We had also ordered Iced Vietnamese Coffees but that actually came out when we finished our meal. Also on another note, it was weird because one of the employees was just sitting there at the table next to us taking his lunch break or whatever he was doing, and people were waiting for service while one of the female servers hurried to serve everyone. Awkward... Anyways, I would come back if I was craving Vietnamese as it's close to my house but I wouldn't go out of my way to come here.
