This is one of my favorite brunch spots in west haven. I enjoy the atmosphere and love seeing regular customers come in. The service is always kind and efficient. I have to say their house coffee is the best drip coffee I have had in a while, and that's coming from someone who strictly drinks espresso. I love coming in and getting their eggs Benedict, it never disappoints. Can't be mad at the price either. Will definitely be coming back here for my morning breakfast or brunch fix. Nicks luncheonette has always been a key cog in my breakfast rotation. The original location was an adorable little spot in West Haven. The issue was that there was no way that location could handle the amount of business that came through. They have since moved to a new location and it's a traditional breakfast/diner spot now. The previous location was super unique. The food comes out super fast. They have an incredible selection and all the food is fresh. The waitresses are super kind and helpful. The parking lot is spacious and clean. The location is super close to the highway. If I'm not mistaken "Nick" still works and cooks there. read more

My sister and I took my little cousins out to breakfast and at first they wanted iHop but after a quick Yelp check, we stumbled on Nick's Luncheonette and decided to check it out. The parking lot was full and the wait was well over 30 minutes. I just knew the food was going to be good, as packed as the restaurant was. I couldn't be anymore wrong and all you yelpers led me astray. When we sat at our booth, our waitress was extremely tepid in her responses to us and while I know she was busy and overworked, that wasn't fair to us. I ordered a veggie omelette and a green tea. My little cousins got the French toast, along with bacon and potatoes. What our waitress didn't tell us when she suggested they get the platter is it was additional. She made it sound like it came with the meal, similar to how you get toast and home fries with a meal. So glad that I found this restaurant! My car gps originally took me to their older not so safe location, but I was so entranced by the food photos, I decided to try again. This new location is right off the freeway, and it's a seat yourself place. Barely any wait because as soon as your butt touches a booth or chair, a waitress is there to take your drink orders. I got the two egg combos, which includes a meat (I chose sausage), fried potatoes, choice of bread. Although my waitress brought my food out quickly, she forgot my sausage. Once I informed her, I had sausage within seconds lol. All of my food was typical diner fare: tasty, piping hot, and huge portions. My coffee cup never emptied, and my waitress was super attentive and friendly. I've gone back three times lol. read more

A very solid breakfast spot, a strong diner with a couple unique twists. Was in the area for an event, and was looking for a breakfast spot to try. There was a lot in new haven, but adding another 20 minutes to my commute was not in my cards. So I decided to try this place close by, and I must say it was worth the try. When I got here, place was packed. There was even a delay with the bench, which was a surprise. Busy is a good sign, so waited for a space. Server was quick to fill the coffee, which was surprisingly decent. still needed cream and sugar but it was a bit better than new england's finest. Menu was very basic, eggs, waffles, french toast, egg benedict. Looking at their specials, they offered an apple cinnamon french toast. So I opt for that, looking forward for my dessert for breakfast. Food came out relatively quickly, and the waitress was very good on refilling my coffee. I took my pics and dug in. The portion was fairly large, and the ice cream was a decent quality vanilla. The apples were fresh and grilled on the flattop, which is a welcome change from the apple pie filling you would normally get in a special. The apples needed a little bit more of a cook, but I greatly appreciated that they actually put effort into this plate. The french toast was soaked well and custardy, with a strong cinnamon sugar taste. No syrup needed here, the toppings were more than enough to keep everything palatable. Overall, they executed very well but they kept to simple breakfast fare. This isn't a place for special meals, but the price is reasonable, the staff is friendly, and the food is good. This would be a place I would take my family to for a breakfast if I was in this area, but not a place I would drive an hour to. If you're in the area, hunt this place down! read more

My one-star reviews are extremely rare, but Nick's deserved it for one reason....total lack of service. My best friend, coincidentally named Nick, and I stopped for breakfast yesterday. Plenty of parking, and a fair amount of cars in their lot. We go in, nice buzz. No sign as to whether you wait to be seated or seat yourself, so we wait, and wait, and wait some more. Waitresses see us, say nothing. Finally, a customer tells us we can seat ourselves. Grab an open booth. And the wait begins AGAIN. We wait about 5 more minutes for a waitress to come by. We ask for coffee and menus. Coffee comes, waitress leaves. We're done reading the menu, ready to order, and nothing. The three waitresses are somewhat busy, but we wait AGAIN! Over 5 minutes. I swear, I thought it was leading to a candid camera moment. We pay for the coffees and leave to find another place. Maybe the food is good. Prices seemed reasonable. No excuse for the extremely poor service. Actually, total lack of service. We wasted a good 15 minutes of our time. read more

I stopped in here this morning while waiting on a family member having a procedure at the VA. I was greeted at the door. I sat at the counter, since I was solo I didn't want to take up a whole table. The woman at the counter promptly got my coffee and gave me time to look over the menu. During the process she's running the register and doing take out orders with efficiency. The cinnamon swirl pancakes were delicious and the coffee was also perfect, not watery like some places. My food came up quick too! Being at the counter I can see the kitchen and they were working back there like a well oiled machine, food flying out and looking delicious. There was a rude customer sitting next to me and the way the woman at the counter handled him was very impressive, I couldn't work with the public like that because I would have cursed him out! We stopped by Nick's Luncheonette on Sunday morning for some brunch and I was glad we did! The restaurant lot didn't look too packed, but when we entered the restaurant was clearly very popular from the many people seated and eating. We were quickly guided to a booth and were handed menus from a very nice waitress. I ordered the corned beef hash with my eggs over easy, and they were perfectly done when I got my dish! The corned beef hash was very tasty, as well as the other items we got (steak, pepper onion and cheese omelette, apple cinnamon pancakes, and crab cakes on a brioche). The crab cakes were probably the star of the show, but the other dishes were also very tasty as well. All in all, I was very satisfied with the price we paid for our food and will definitely be back next time we're in New Haven! read more

Nick's Luncheonette is a place you must visit when your in West Haven. I live less than 5 minutes from them since they changed locations a few years back. Be aware they open early and close by 3:00! I ordered over the phone from work, 2 eggs, hash brown, and toast a coffee and 2 hot chocolates large to go. I get there the girl rings me up $12.06 hands me bagged food and a coffee. I ask about the hot chocolates the elderly lady does not recall so the girl rings those up $5.77 more. Given 2 smalls. And that was whatever. Nick's is a great west haven spot! They have tons of breakfast and lunch items for really cheap prices. I usually spend about $10-15 here for a meal including tip. I have tried some of the breakfast items such as eggs Benedict, cornbeef hash, and pancakes. They are all decent and good portions. This place reminds me of other diners and the food is made similarly to other diners. The lunch sandwiches are also done pretty well also. You really cant beat the price here! The service is also great and I have always felt very welcomed coming here. It can get pretty busy at times depending on when you are there. There is a convenient parking lot as well. read more

Just discovered this gem, being new to the area, and I couldn't be happier! This is what a diner is supposed to be. The staff are all very friendly - obviously have good relationships with the many regulars - and there is a wonderful hometown gathering kind of vibe about the place. I came for breakfast and I got one of the best eggs n bacon n sausage meals I've ever had. Everything was cooked just like I asked and the hash browns were fabulous. Absolutely my go to breakfast place! Convenient to 95 and easy drive just minutes from New Haven or Milford. Clean, well staffed and food is always fresh and delicious. Very good diner type restaurant just off I-95. We stopped in for breakfast. My wife had an omelette and I had the kielbasa and eggs and both were great. Decent coffee. A few minor service issues kept me from rating them 5 stars. My wife ordered rye toast and got white. In general the service was a little slow but it appeared they were a little short staffed relative to the crowd. Also the side pancake we ordered was just ok. One of my favorite things to order at a diner is a Corned Beef Reuben, but often I am disappointed when it comes open faced, or without sauerkraut. Nicks did it just right! Grilled rye bread with just enough butter on it, sauerkraut, thousand island dressing, Swiss cheese -- and of course lean corned beef all came together for a perfect sandwich. I was so happy! This Luncheonette is clearly a favorite for locals, and being not far off of the highway I was happy to stumble upon it when we were on our way to the Cape. Best diner food I've ever had! The home fries are amazing- toasted on the outside, soft and flavorful on the inside. I wish there were more Nick's! I'm gluten free so I was excited to see a section on the menu with wraps I could eat. The pastrami wrap was great! Layers of flavor in every bite, not too wet or dry. I loved it! My fiancé had the buffalo chicken and mozzarella omelette and it was HUGE! He substituted toast for a bagel with cream cheese and was happy with everything. It was nice to see the restaurant packed and the staff all working together to take care of the customers. Waitresses could be seen prepping small things in the kitchen alongside the cooks.
